WIP Wednesday - Closed (9/13/23) | New Kings AU

"I can absolutely fake it. I'm great at lying." Neil says and there's a tug on his hair. "To other people. Not to you guys." Neil adds with a look to Andrew who rolls his eyes but continues his work to make Neil not look like he'd been up to exactly what he'd been up to the night before.

Kevin yawned behind them.

"You're seriously going to fall asleep?" Matt asks Kevin.

"I already know what's going to happen from here." Kevin says, "Allison is going to open a betting pool. I'm gonna put 20 bucks that Neil barely makes it past shaking Riko's hand. Neil's going to get offended and then Andrew's going to tell everyone to shut up. I'm tired and I don't care about this." Kevin grouses pulling his jacket over himself a bit more.

"You're not even freaking out about seeing Riko?" Aaron asks.

"That may be incoming." Kevin admits. "But I've had a lot of time and forced therapy to deal with that." he grumbles. "Unlike the amount of time I got to sleep last night." he huffs.

A trip to the farmers market. Got some ice cream, looked at chickens that I wanted to pick up but knew I shouldn't (and didn't) fed some goats and climbed to the top of the playground structure ( ? it had a tractor built into it idk what to call it.) then slid down the lil slide which was fun! Until I landed my bare legs on the boiling black plastic they had at the bottom of the slide sending me flinging myself into the grass.

The nice part about this moment was that realization that I didn't feel embarrassed. Even though I was a bit of a spectacle for parents and kids alike who where walking around. I even laughed about it while laying in the grass, covering my face with my straw hat. I got up. I stayed, and I sat in the sun for a long time after listening to music/relaxing. It makes me realize I have changed as a person. There was a time where something like that would've left me inconsolable, I would've walked away feeling ashamed. Locking myself up in my room, isolating myself and being utterly humiliated by it all. Granted back then I wouldn't have even thought to go down the slide in the first place because of it being 'childish' for my age.

I'm thankful to have reached this point in my life. I'm so glad I'm still alive to have turned into the person I am now. That I still have so much life to live where I can have moments like this again

I could name an infinity of crossovers that I'd like to see between HypMic and ParaLive: Kenta / Saburo (about which I've already made a fanart); Hajun / Gentaro (... / Shion, why not?); Allen / Ichiro (easy to imagine them talking for hours about Buraikan lol); Saimon and Haruomi / Jakurai, Hitoya and Rei; Toma / Hifumi; Reo, Ryu and Kantaro / Ramuda; Satsuki / Dice (OMG, I WOULD DIE TO SEE THOSE TWO DORKS INTERACTING); Zen / Rio ("SO MUSCLE. HUSTLE. THIS IS A JOY!")... and I think this is quite enough, so I'll stop here for your sake. BUT. BUT BUT BUT. Let's talk about the interaction between Iori, Yohei, Samatoki and Jyuto, will you?

I can perfectly see them meeting at bar 4/7 late in the evening, after the closing time. Yohei is behind the counter, cleaning the glasses while chatting idly with Iori, waiting for Samatoki and Jyuto, who just got off work, to open the bar's door and enter, even if the place is already closed. Because yes, they're a group of friends who just meet up to relax together before calling it a day. It makes me laugh to think that Samatoki is the youngest, among them! Yohei, Iori and Jyuto are, indeed, respectively 28, 28 and 29 years old. And all of them have so much in common! Let's start by saying that them all love smoking. So, I can picture the scene: Samatoki slowly walks in, sits on a high stool next to Iori, who's already smoking from his pipe, a glass of liquor in front of him, greeting Samatoki with a fist bump ("Yooo, Samatoki-kun~") and Jyuto with a graceful pipe motion ("Iruma-san~"). Meanwhile Yohei, with a relaxed smile, starts pouring a glass of iced whisky before the white haired man, who's just brought a cigarette to his lips. On Samatoki's right, Jyuto sits down and loosens just a little bit his necktie, lighting himself a cigarette, so Samatoki leans forward to light his through Jyuto's. Yohei places a glass of whisky before the other man, too. So the chitchat about the day starts, while a relaxing jazz music plays in the background. The two Yokohama men simply love bar 4/7. Samatoki, in particular. He loves the atmosphere, so calm and relaxing with those dim lights and the smell of liquors and a different tobacco to the one he smokes, so detached from the reality he lives every day, so much in line with his tastes about music and aesthetic. Moreover, Yohei's drinks are the best and he himself and Iori are ex Yakuzas too. It's so strange for him to say something like this, but he feels understood by them, he's at ease with Iori and Yohei, because they know what Samatoki goes through as a Yakuza. That's the only place where he can break down his defenses, at least for a while. Obviously, Jyuto enjoys their company, too! He gets on well especially with Iori (he won't never admit that Yohei remembers him a quieter version of Samatoki, lol). Jyuto and Iori sips from their glasses while talking about the day and exchanging information about criminals in the area... I can see Jyuto taking care of the AKYR case and informing Iori about every small new info about it. In the background, Yohei (who's now enjoying himself a glass of liquor and a cigarette offered by the MTC leader) and Samatoki are exchanging passionate opinions on their new purchases of vintage clothes and records, since they both love that kind of things. Until Yohei says "Oi, Samatoki, let's go to the piano, tell me what do you think about this new rap verse I'm writing for the next stage battle ... try to rap this part and this one, too. Follow me on the beat..." And that's how the rhythmic notes of a piano fill the calm, muted night air inside the bar. "Holy shit! What's the song's name, Yohei-san?" "Shooting arrows. You like it? Eheh" "It's really something, I must admit. But let's talk about it after you listen to our Scarface. Naa, Jyuto?" "Why, yes ~" And Iori: "Nee, Danna ~... What about a small rap battle, just for fun, then? Two on two, since we're in the mood?" Yohei: "Ohoh, not a bad idea! Count me in!" Samatoki: "Ha! You'll regret once we'll show you what MTC can do. Come here, Jyuto!" Jyuto: "Well, I suppose I have no choice " *Double Trouble starts playing...* Funny how to pass from MTC to TCW it's required just a flip of the M (it's an upside down W) and to place it at the end of the word.

Travis looked surprised, but his reaction was so obviously fake. It was clear he was trying to cover something up. "I think I'm the same as always." "You never usually call me by my name this much."

He pretended to stroke his chin thoughtfully, but it was just as forced. His eyes were darting around, showing he had something on his mind. He's really not good at lying. Well, that's one of the things she loves about him, so she can't complain.

Even though Travis still seemed to be hiding something, Laura decided to leave it for now and stretched out her legs on the sofa.

"Sorry, Laura. Do you mind if I reply to a few work emails before we go out for dinner?" "Go ahead."

Watching Travis sit at the living room table and quickly boot up his laptop with just a few keystrokes, Laura couldn't help but chuckle at an old memory. "By any chance, is your password still your birthday?" "……" "Seriously?"

She always thought he wasn't good with new things, but this was beyond her expectations. Travis pouted, seemingly upset by Laura's disapproving look. "It doesn't matter. No one looks at my laptop, and there's nothing on it I'd be embarrassed about anyway." "Hmm… You're not browsing any naughty sites, are you?" "Of course not!"

That's definitely a lie. Laura shrugged and then, with a sly grin, thought of something. She didn't know how it would turn out, but it was worth a try.

It wasn't that she really wanted to check if Travis was visiting inappropriate sites. If he was, it would be a funny thing to tease him about, but more importantly, she wanted to show this stubborn old man how risky it was to have a simple password.

Travis seemed to finish his work email. Laura waited for the right moment and quietly approached him from behind. "Hey, Travis." He turned around with an unguarded look on his face. Laura thought to herself how she would hate having someone stand behind her when her laptop was open, but she didn't show it.

"Let's go to the next town for dinner tonight. North Kill doesn't have many restaurants, and I'm getting a bit tired of it. What kind of places do they have there?" "That's a good idea," Travis nodded and opened a search engine. "Let's find out."

The moment he placed the cursor in the search window…

"What’s this?" Travis's fingers moved faster than she had ever seen, closing the tabs, but it was too late.

Laura looked down at the back of Travis's now red neck, grinning from ear to ear. "So that's why you’ve been calling my name all day. You took advice from the internet, huh?" "No, it’s not like that—" "You did have something you didn’t want me to see." As Laura confidently delivered her punchline, she was met with the sight of Travis glaring up at her, his face flushed with embarrassment. "You should set a proper password from now on." Travis muttered something unpleasant under his breath, but Laura just laughed it off. However, deep down, she felt a twinge of regret. If it meant seeing something as amusing as this again, maybe she shouldn’t have insisted on him changing his password.

Matt couldn't help the smile on his face as they walked back to the dorms. They chatted some more as they walked, "So what had you pick Accounting as a major?" he asks.

"I'm used to budgeting and accounting is something you can use to get a job almost anywhere." Neil answers back easily. "Why'd you pick business administration?" he asks.

Matt blushes slightly, "Uh, same as you for the last part. I wanted to be able to get a job almost anywhere. If I can't become a professional player I want to be able to stick with my girlfriend wherever she goes." he says wondering if Dan was done unpacking, or more likely, done helping Allison unpack.

"Oh, girlfriend?" Neil asks and Matt had been doing his best to hold back on his gushing about Dan but now the Freshman had asked for it.
