Word Count: ~1,130
In the dim moonlight of the cozy quarters below Pyloon’s Saloon, You suddenly sat up in bed, your heart racing as You glanced around, feeling an eerie presence of someone or something lurking in the shadows. With a shiver, You reached out and gently shook your boyfriend awake.
“Cal…” You whispered, only earning a soft groan in response. It surprised You how the redhead did not sense the presence, when usually he was able to pick up even the most minute of disturbances in the environment.
When the Jedi failed to wake up, You shook him harder, your movements frantic when You saw the shadows in one corner move. “Cal!”
Cal bolted upright, immediately alert when he noticed the panic in your voice. “What is it? What’s wrong?” He whispered, his voice hoarse from sleep. He reached for his lightsaber and ignited it, bathing the two of you in its soft glow.
That deep, sleepy voice usually made your heart race in the early hours of the morning. But at that moment, fear overshadowed any sense of excitement and You pointed a trembling finger at the dark corner of the spacious quarters. “T-There’s something there… I saw something move!”
Cal’s eyes followed your pointed finger and he tightened his grip on his lightsaber. He squinted into the darkness, trying to make out any shape or movement. When unable to do so, he got out of bed and slowly began to move towards the other end of the quarters, his eyes never leaving the shadows.
With his lightsaber in one hand, he motioned to You with the other. “Stay there. I’ll go have a look.” His voice was steady and reassuring, but there was a sense of urgency and a slight edge to it.
You only nodded in response, sitting up in bed with the blanket pulled up to your chin. You watched as Cal reached the shadows and carefully inspected the area. When he did not find anything out of the ordinary, he turned back to You, a faint smile on his face. “It’s okay, there’s nothing there. It must have been your imagination, love.”
“But I swear, I saw something!” You pouted, crossing your arms.
The redhead chuckled, placing his lightsaber back onto the bedside table before climbing into bed next to You. “Hey, it’s not my fault you’re so easily spooked,” he grinned before reaching out to gently take your hand in his.
“What did you just say?” You narrowed your eyes at him, your tone icy. Despite that, You still allowed him to hold your hand.
Cal’s smile faded slightly, sensing the change in your tone. “I didn’t mean it like that, love,” he said apologetically, realising how insensitive he had come across despite it not being his intention. “I just meant that you’re more sensitive to danger than most people.” He then pulled You into a warm embrace, pressing a gentle kiss on the top of your head as an apology.
You couldn’t help but smile, your heart warmed by the redhead’s sincerity. “Yeah, yeah… Butter me up some more, why don’t you?” You murmured, snuggling closer to him before laying back down under the bundle of blankets, beckoning him with a finger.
A lazy smile spread across Cal’s face as he settled in bed next to You. He wrapped his arms around You, pulling You closer and nuzzling at your neck.
You sighed, cuddling against his warm, muscular chest. You still couldn’t shake off the sensation of unease from earlier—still feeling another unknown presence in your quarters but You chalked it off to exhaustion. And besides, with Cal by your side, You knew there was nothing to fear.
The next morning, when You stripped down to your underwear and stepped into the refresher to take a shower, You were met with a surprise. With a gasp, You stumbled back after turning on the shower as a small bogling popped out from behind the curtain, its curious eyes meeting yours.
“Caaaalllll!” You shouted, your voice muffled by the sound of running water but still loud enough to startle the redhead out of bed.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong?!” Cal called out as he rushed inside the bathroom, his heart racing with worry. His green eyes widened in surprise when he noticed the little bogling hopping around in the shower.
“Did you bring him inside?” You glared up at him, realising this furry creature was what spooked You last night. It all made sense as boglings were known to be very elusive when they wanted to be.
The Jedi raised his hands in defense, taking a step back. “No, I swear! I thought he was still outside,” he said, trying to keep his eyes above your neck. He thought that if he gave in to his desires, the situation would only get worse, even if your half-naked body was calling out to him.
“You left him outside…” You repeated, watching as the furry creature scampered up to Cal and looked up at him with innocent eyes.
“So, that means you did bring him with you!”
Cal chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his head. “Well, when you put it like that… I guess I did.” He admitted. The bogling let out a happy little coo, clearly enjoying the warmth of the shower that was still running.
You shot your redhead yet another glare, albeit a playful one that time before watching the bogling splash bout under the spray of the shower, uncaring of the quarrelling couple right next to him.
“Well, looks like we have a guest for breakfast.”
Cal beamed, unable to help himself. “Looks like it,” he agreed before stepping closer to You and wrapping his arms around your waist. “I’m sorry for bringing him inside without asking you first.” He pressed a gentle kiss to Your forehead, his eyes softening with affection.
“Come here…” You murmured and brought him closer, pulling him under the spray of water, clothed and all.
The redhead’s eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t resist. The water soaked through his clothes, making them cling to his body. He wrapped his arms around you tightly, holding You close as the warm water rained down upon you both.
“You’re too overdressed…” You mumbled, nuzzling your face against his neck.
Cal laughed, his cheeks flushed in response. “I guess I am,” he said, his hands already reaching for the hem of his shirt. He tugged it over his head, letting it fall to the floor with a wet splat.
Meanwhile, the little bogling watched with wide, curious eyes as Cal and You stripped off your wet clothing. It then quickly hopped over to the refresher door, its furry tail wagging.
Cal raised an eyebrow as the bogling rushed out of the refresher, making a beeline for the door of the quarters. “Looks like he knows what we’re about to do,” he chuckled, giving You a lopsided grin before leaning down to kiss You.

febwhump day 2: holding back tears except less whump and more angst. feels like these febwhump things are going to be me smashing out quick ideas that might be expanded on later, might not Fallen Order-Era. Cere POV. Time-travel
A figure stands at the end of the Mantis’s ramp, not even a toe of the edge. He radiates such strong wistfulness, and no small amount of grief, Cere can feel it to the marrow of her bones even without the Force. Still, she keeps her blaster in hand, tucked out of sight, and stares down the stranger, eyebrow raised.
He’s dressed in a garish blue and yellow poncho, hood pulled low over his head against the torrent of rain but makes no other effort to shield himself. She can’t see much of his face other than a glint of eyes on her and a crooked sort of smile. He looks at her with a familiarity she shouldn’t understand – yet she does. The Force stirs in the back of her mind, perking up like a bogling out of its burrow, whispering trust-trust-trust so loudly she wants to cover her ears. It’s bright and shining, like the sun on a cloudless day, and it’s so different than the shadowy darkness that’s been haunting her since Nur she’s….she’s pretty tempted to listen, just this once.
“Can I help you?” she asks curtly.
The figure shrugs. “I don’t know,” he says. “I’m looking for charter. I’ve got credits.” His voice is low and oddly thick, but Cere can’t say if that’s his natural tone or something else.
No is on the tip of her tongue. Yes, they’ve taken passengers before when their collective funds were too low – they tried not to rely too heavily on Cere’s stash – but usually they’re advertising, not simply accepting every random person’s offer of credits on a whim. But when Cere goes to dismiss him, something stops her. The Force. Her instincts. The way he continues to stand just off the ramp, radiating grief and longing in a way Cere is intimately familiar with.
“Where are you going?”
“The Outer Rim, I think,” he says.
“You think?”
“A gut feeling.” He tilts his head, his smile growing cheeky, and Cere blinks, taken aback by how young he looks. “Something tells me I need to be there.”
Bogano is in the Outer Rim. Cere dares not to hope that maybe this gut feeling speaks of something deeper. She sighs and gestures for him to come up the ramp. “Get inside. Can’t have you drowning while we hash out the details.”
His whole expression brightens as he scampers up. “Thank you!”
“Slow down. We haven’t agreed to anything just yet.” She doesn’t bother hiding her blaster now, making sure he can see it. The moment he tries to pull something she’ll shoot him dead, kid or not. “Captain! We’ve got company!”
Greez sticks his head out the cockpit, eyes narrowed in suspicion. “We running a babysitting service now? What are you, ten?”
“Seventeen,” the stranger quips as he pulls down his hood to reveal a shock of copper red hair. He’s smiling so hard it has to hurt, his gaze flickering from Cere to Greez then back again. His eyes shine with what look like unshed tears, but that could just be remnants of rainwater. “I’m seventeen.”
“Yeah, and I’m the Queen of Naboo.” Greez warily comes out of the cockpit, one set of hands on his hips. “Whatcha want, longbean?”
The kid laughs. It sounds brittle. “Like I told her,” he gestures to Cere. “Just looking to get to the Outer Rim. I’ve got the credits. I can lend a hand too, with maintenance. I’m pretty handy with it comes to ships. I can cook and pilot – I had a really good teacher.” His eyes linger on Greez before tearing away to focus on Cere again. He swallows thickly, voice a little less steady. “I can haggle and fight. I won’t be a dead weight.”
Cere holds up a hand before he can keep going, her stomach twisting and her heart aching. The kid is running from something, she’s pretty sure, but even that doesn’t seem quite right. “Credits will be enough,” she tells him. Then, against her better judgement, she adds, “I’ve got a good feeling about you.”
He beams and rasps out, “Yeah. Me too.” He sticks out a hand, the poncho sliding across his arm to show the edge of a dark tattoo. I’m Cal.”
“Nice to meet you, Cal.” She takes it, holding firm. The Force dances happily around their clasped hands and she can’t turn away. “I’m Cere. This is Greez. Welcome aboard the Mantis.”

#9 Cal Tops #3 USC, #16 GCU
Golden Bears Get First Ranked Wins This Season
PALO ALTO, CA – The No. 9 California beach volleyball team earned its first ranked wins of the season Friday defeating both No. 16 GCU and reigning national champion No. 3 USC. The Golden Bears won both duals by a score of 3-2 on day one of the MPSF Midseason Rumble, only a week after sweeping their three opponents in the Battle of the Bay. Cal (9-1) had to fight hard in back-to-back matches with top-ranked teams as six of the 10 matchups went to a third set. The Bears got out to a hot start against the Lopes winning the first set on courts two and four, but with its back against the wall GCU forced two tiebreakers. The captain duo of graduate student Sierra Caffo and junior Gia Fisher fell behind in their third set 4-1 before going on a 14-3 run to give Cal the first point of the dual. Junior Jenna Colligan and graduate student Christine DeRoos trailed in their third set as well but grinded out a 17-15 win to make it a 2-0 contest. GCU put a point on the board with a win at the No. 5 position but the court-one pairing of sophomore Emma Donley and junior Portia Sherman sealed the dual with a straight-set victory.

The Bears had roughly 10 minutes to regroup and refuel before taking the sand against a Trojan team that they had not defeated since the 2023 Pac-12 Championship, which also took place at Stanford. Once again Cal came out firing and won the first two sets on courts four and two. Unfortunately, this time it was the opponent that found the strong finish as USC forced and won two third-set deciders to take a 2-0 lead in the dual. Despite seeing a hot start fizzle away, the three remaining pairs did not shutter and instead rose to occasion and won all three matches in straight sets to complete the reverse sweep. USC had not lost a match in which it led 2-0 since the 2021 Pac-12 Championships.
Seniors Ella Dreibholz and Ella Sears dominated on court five to put the first dual point on the board and the court-three pair of senior Alexandria Young-Gomez and junior Marilu Pally followed suit winning its matchup handedly to tie the match at 2-2. It would come down to court one where Sherman and Donley had already swiped the first set 21-15. The second set was a closer contest, but a late run granted the Bears the set, the match, and the dual. They were the sole pair to go undefeated on the day and did so in the top spot. No. 9 Cal - 3, No. 16 Grand Canyon - 2 1 Donley/Sherman (Cal) def. Keefe/Ferro (USC) 21-11, 21-12 2 Fisher/Caffo (Cal) def. Kohl/Piret (GCU) 21-19, 16-21, 15-7 3 Garrow/Hladyniuk (GCU) def. The bogling squeaks and tries to wriggle away, and Cal just manages to keep his grip on it before it can get mud all over more than the sink. Even so, a few globs spatter the mirror and land on BD-1, who’s been watching from the floor. The droid shakes his head, complaining loudly about the mud now stuck to one of his optics.
Cal laughs. “I’ll give you a hand with that in a second, buddy, just gotta finish cleaning this little guy up before Greez realizes just how much mud is everywhere.”
“I heard that!” Greez yells. “If I see even one speck of mud in there when you’re done, I’m ending you!”

Cal comes across a pathetic lifeform while out exploring Koboh and decides to do something about it.

ao3 wrapped [writers edition] how about 10,11,29, or 30?
10. What work was the quickest to write?
It was either closure or the lack thereof, which I technically wrote 2 drafts of and posted over a weekend but I did have that idea kicking around since 2021, so from concept to post it was probably either with teeth we've come this far or I feel like I'm borrowing all my time, because I came up with the ideas for whumptober and finished them. All the others existed as idea bulletpoints or little jotted down paragraphs before Sept 1 but those two were completely contained.
11. What work took you the longest to write?
While the dark ocean duology did take me all summer after I'd initially thought it would take a couple weeks tops, the winner has to be the first chapter of omens and all kinds of signs which was at 60% done for 2 years. I honestly don't know that I would have finished it if I hadn't decided to post it serially, so yeah little plug for writing serially. It was really just to get back on the horse after having an off year last year.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
I really like this bit where Greez is like 'wtf' in 'I feel like I'm borrowing all my time':
This all feels like an overwhelming, insurmountable task. Greez wishes he hadn’t been chosen for it. He knows how important it is, wants desperately to find the kid before he can be hurt, but it really feels beyond him. He misses the Mantis, misses the rest of the crew, even the little droid and the stowaway bogling. He misses feeling like he understands his place in the universe. His mind struggles to keep up with how long it’s been. A couple of hours? Days? Five years but wound in reverse? He knows it shouldn’t feel like five years, but it kind of does. It feels like the warmth and safety of home is something he lost long ago, or perhaps never had. Now that Cal’s missing from his proper place, it all feels like none of it ever actually happened. It both exists in his memory and doesn’t, like a distant dream. Greez shivers. All of this is very, very wrong. Cere is staring at the fire again, an inscrutable look on her face. Greez decides to fill the silence with: “I guess we have to hope they didn’t take him to Nur.” Cere whirls on him abruptly. “Of course we have to hope they didn’t take him to Nur.” “I just mean that…” Greez swallows. It’s started raining harder, raising more steam and smoke from the fires. The smoke makes his eyes sting. Cere waits for an explanation, brow furrowed. “Don’t we have to avoid…I just mean…you shouldn’t meet yourself, right? That’s one of the rules of this sort of thing, isn’t it? At least, it was in the cheesy dramas my grandmother was always watching…” “Oh.” Cere turns back to the fire. “I hadn’t considered that.”
Apologies for the length of it but I like it both for the 1) 'it shouldn't feel like five years but it does' bit, just leaning into time travel being WEIRD. Also I think I slipped up a couple times responding to comments and referred to 'timelines' but as best I can come up with for fitting time travel into SW worldbuilding....there are no alternate timelines really. Because time isn't really...real. So Greez is right, once things have started changing, they change in the future as well so it all both does and doesn't exist at the same time...idk if I ever went further on the time travel concept it would be along these lines, rather than having distinct alternate timelines.
2) the very human moment of filling an awkward silence with the exact wrong thing. XD It's such a little thing but I ended up LOVING the "Greez decided to fill the silence with" dialogue tag. XD
30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?
I'm going to answer this one with a screenshot of my ideas list I found while cleaning it up this weekend:
I don't want to sound like too much of a curmudgeon (though the ship has probably said on that one)*, but I can't stress enough how surprising it was that one of my biggest 'nope, would never write' became one of my favorite fics of the year. Now I feel like I can't said I'd never write something. Growth?
(*and just to stress, like...for me writing/reading, don't take this personally. I use the exclude tags but please don't take this as like a judgement, I just have never really liked them and got a bit grumpy about just how popular they were when I came back to reading Star Wars fic a couple years ago)

My brain is violently ping-pong-ing between half a dozen different original fiction ideas right now and getting excited about all of them at once, so I guess here's a rundown of the things that are occupying my brain right now:
The Woodsman and the Wolf
The newest idea on the list, this one is going to be a comic/graphic novel. It's a queerplatonic fable-y, fairytale-y short story about a woodsman who lives in a village under the threat of The Wolf (a monstrous creature that's been killing livestock and villagers who stray too far from the village's lights) and the injured traveller that he rescues in the forest one day. Except said traveller is secretly a werewolf and maybe there's also more to The Wolf than first appears... It's a story about who and what we call a monster and the harm that othering can cause, and it kind of sprung fully formed into my head after I watched the Nimona movie after re-reading Witches Abroad and while also thinking about all the things that made me mad about how She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Platformed treated Lupin in the HP books. It's also about anger, and werewolves as a metaphor for the parts of ourselves we're scared to acknowledge, and the healing that comes from choosing to build things rather than destroy. I thought about making it gay, but then I realised that I had an opportunity to have the happy ending be queerplatonic and now I'm really excited about writing these sad broken disasters (because the Woodsman has his own share of baggage) slowly finding understanding and a home together. Do I have any idea how to make a graphic novel? No, but I'm not going to let that stop me because I've become very fond of this story very quickly.
Untitled Science Fantasy Thing
I've been referring to the setting for this one as 'Willa's World' after one of the protagonists, and I think it's a novel? This one came about when I smashed together my two favourite general characters, Ironwood and Armstrong, and ended up with an extremely tired, angry woman who's desperately trying to protect her country from an ever-escalating invasion of monsters from the frozen north while slowly losing what remains of her shit and being pushed out of her own story by The Idealistic Teen Protagonist(TM) who has just crashed into the middle of all this and is equally determined to save the world her own way. The general is Willa Stonehold, the Teen Protagonist is Maisie Kennard, and I love them both, the whole story is built around their clash of narratives and genres and personalities and the fact that neither of them can save the world alone. Willa's side of the story is about being middle-aged and butch and aroace and disabled and angry and lonely and reckoning with the fact that she's been tearing herself apart to protect a world that at best wishes she'd stay quiet and invisible, but fuck them she's going to go down in a blaze of glory and destroy the monsters along with herself and Then They'll All See. And Maisie is also aroace and figuring out where she fits in the world but doing it with a determined bloody-minded hopefulness that, along with her Weird Magic Protagonist Powers, might just warp the story around her enough that she can drag the people she cares about into a happy ending as well. And that's not even the half of it, it's a whole thing, I've only got about 2/3rds of a plot figured out but a whole heck of a lot of Thematic Stuff that I'm rotating violently in my brain and cackling delightedly about.
Brownies and Bogles
This one has been bouncing around my brain for years, and really it's a TV series concept, but realistically I think the right format for it is going to be a series of short comics. It's otherwise known as 'that Scottish urban fantasy thing', and the basic idea is that Our Protagonists work for an organisation that deals with the weird stuff that arises when the human and magical worlds interact. These are the guys that go around the universities and do presentations telling students not to drink any beer if they end up at a fairy party, or settle disputes over beach usage between selkies and tourists, or deal with brownie infestations on the high street. There's a glamour situation at play kind of equivalent to the 'Somebody Else's Problem field' from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, where regular people mostly don't notice or slowly forget the magical elements of things they see, but the more exposed you are to magic the more of it you start seeing around you. Most of the employees at the organisation are people who got involved in some sort of magic nonsense and suddenly were seeing it everywhere and demanding explanations. The main characters are Kevin, a thoroughly regular bloke who is also aroace and has been platonically married to his best mate Dave ever since that was legal and got them tax benefits, and Jay, who is three hundred years old and laughs at your concepts of gender and is also deeply magically weird thanks to being left on a fairy hill as a child and adopted by the fae, who rubbed off on them. Together, they investigate weird shit and get up to wacky adventures, mostly in places in Scotland that I personally know because why the hell not. (An iconic minor character that my sister and I co-invented years ago is Nippy the Chip Kelpie, a particularly weird kelpie that lives in the River Girvan and likes nothing better than hanging out with the seagulls at the beach and sticking his giant soggy horse head through car windows in order to steal chips from people parked by the promenade to enjoy the view.) The whole 'verse is a bit more on the comedy side of things, it's fun.
Werewolf Detectives Thing
This is another pretty recent idea, because I've had werewolves on the brain. Well, some of it is older, but the current iteration that's in the early stages of development is from the last few months. The basic idea is that it's the late 1820s in Edinburgh, and assorted magical folks are living on the edges of human society, including both werewolves and wulvers. A former trainee soldier who was kicked out of the army after he was bitten by a werewolf (and doesn't have a definite name yet, but I think his surname might be Grey) has been existing in this society as a werewolf for a decade or two when he comes across another man, a teacher, who has only been recently turned. He takes it upon himself to mentor the new werewolf, to help him figure out his new life, but said teacher is a little bit distracted trying to investigate some disappearances and deaths within the magical community. (Even when he was human, he was known to magical folks because because he was one of the few willing to teach magical children to read and write.) Grey gets dragged into investigating along with him, and they eventually end up setting up a detective agency together. (In theory it's a book series and they go on to have continuing adventures, but who the fuck knows if I'll ever get that far.) It's specifically set in the 1820s because that's when Edinburgh was in the middle of a whole thing involving graverobbing to provide corpses for the medical school, which eventually led to the Burke and Hare murders, and that seemed like an interesting time to plonk some magical shenanigans and amateur detective nonsense. Oh, and the teacher? He's trans, and faked his own death before he moved to the big city under his new name. Which I haven't decided on yet, names are hard, but I love him, he's great. In this one, the werewolf stuff is a big old queer metaphor, and I'm going to have some fun with the relationship between werewolves and wulvers on that front, too.
Untitled DnD Nonsense feat. Sam and Arthur
This is what happens when you realise that the backstories of a couple of DnD characters rhyme rather nicely, and I don't know if it's a novel or a comic or really what the main bulk of the plot is, but I am rotating it in my brain. Dr Sam Harnendil is accidentally a cleric, but really he'd rather just be a doctor. He was conscripted as a battlefield surgeon, and he gained his cleric abilities when he yelled at the holy symbol of a dying paladin, telling her god that she ought to Do Her Fucking Job, and said god gave him magic in answer. He struggled to go back to a normal life after the war ended, so in the present he's a travelling doctor, helping where he can and keeping his magic upgrade on the down-low. And then there's Arthur Fenn, a sellsword that he meets on the road, who clearly has a lot of history that he is Not going to talk about. It eventually turns out that Arthur was General Ridill, the general in command of the army that conscripted Sam all those years ago, and he lost everything when his kingdom fell in the final battle of the war. Not just that, but he was mutinied against by his own troops for wanting to unleash a monstrous shadow entity on the enemy as a desperate last resort, and he's now just a little bit possessed by said shadow entity that's been giving him powers and feeding him promises of vengeance. Ideally I'd love to bounce the two of them off of each other in a DnD campaign, but since I can't do that I've been slowly coming up with a story around the two of them that's about a doctor and a general who were fucked up by the same war and the parts they played in it, and how they figure out their own paths in the face of the powerful entities that want to control them. Other potential players in the story are Arthur's ex-something (it's complicated), a man called Cor (aka Cornelius Fenn, and yes, Arthur is using his surname as a alias) who was a spy for the same kingdom, and a teenage wannabe monster slayer called Merewyn who decides she's going to tag along with these losers after they pass through her village and study them for her own entertainment and education.
Untitled (And Slightly Neglected) Sci-Fi Thing
This one is a novel that's been rattling around by brain for about five years now, and is pretty much the first original project I was serious about as an adult, although I've slightly neglected it of late. It's a sci-fi story about first contact, in which an exploration pilot called Alastair Hayashi who lives in the space-future ends up becoming the first human to meet aliens when they capture his ship in the middle of a mysterious uncharted area of Weird Space Nonsense nicknamed the Gnarly Cloud. (After how it was described by the space truckers who got the first good in-person look at it.) Alastair ends up stuck on an alien world surrounded by belligerent, xenophobic bird people, in the role of the alien in Area 51, and having to explain the concept of humans to a race that was just as unaware of their neighbours as we were of them. The fact that their Prototypical Human is a gay, autistic Japanese-Scottish amputee rather than a Straight Cis White Guy(TM) is a source of alternating amusement and exasperation to him, he is having A Time. Meanwhile, back on the space station where he lives on the edge of the Cloud, he's been declared missing-presumed-dead, which his best friend and fellow pilot who saw the abduction is Strenuously objecting to because she wants to go in and rescue him, and his space trucker husband is starting to uncover evidence that maybe the existence of aliens on the other side of the Cloud wasn't as much a surprise to certain people as it ought to have been... Alastair eventually makes it back to the station with the help of one of the alien scientists, and finds himself stuck in the middle of a first contact situation that is rapidly sliding in the direction of a war that he is determined to prevent. I still love this story and the characters, but it's not thematically grabbing me the way it used to so I think I need to play around with it some more. (And maybe rewatch Voltron, because frustrations about Shiro's storyline was what spawned Alastair in the first place.) It's got 2/3rds of a plot but I need to re-find the themes that got me excited about it in the first place, and maybe throw in some more that are more what I'm enjoying in stories now, five-ish years after I came up with this one.
Red Shift Blue Shift
Last but the opposite of least, this one is the webcomic I'm developing with @yourfriendlyneighborhoodenby! It's got a whole blog with character stuff and art over at @redshiftblueshiftcomic, but here's the short-ish version:
Dan Gibson (they/them) is the leader of a team in the space-future that investigates crimes against robots and works to protect robot rights, and they're the sort of exhausted team dad character that inevitably becomes my favourite in any media about a team. They're Hotch from Criminal Minds meets the person Harrison Wells originally seemed to be in s1 of The Flash, meets early volumes Ironwood, and they're transmasc nonbinary and aroace Because Why Not. Also on their team are Georgie (she/her), boisterous gym butch and the team's legal expert, Bob (he/him), an ancient and grumpy military tank bot who renounced his weapons and was part of the first generation of robots to be considered sapient, Peregrine (he/they), Dan's protégé and a bitchy android with custom giant claw feet, Cobi (they/them), an excitable spaceship AI who gets the team where they want to go, and Max (ey/em), an opinionated and principled trainee agent who's a human who was raised by robots. Together, they have a bunch of adventures involving, among other things, an ancient sentient generation ship that they have to rescue from unscrupulous salvagers, bots going missing on a robot retirement moon, a would-be cult leader enslaving robots with mysterious mind-control tech he claims to have brought back from the future, and a mysterious mask-wearing individual that seems to be following the team around and pursuing some sort of unknown agenda of their own.
Other characters include Hector (he/him), a fellow agent in the anti-terrorism branch of the team's organisation who is starting to have doubts about how the organisation is run, Kamari (she/her), an enigmatic and dapper butch android working for persons and causes unknown, and Patch (they/them), a spaceship repair bot who has upgraded their own programming so many times that their list of skills is as long as one of their extendable arms (and even includes brain surgery, which no one has let them try yet, much to their disappointment). And, of course, aforementioned mysterious masked individual, the truth of whose identity drags the team and the rest of the cast into something much bigger and more ominous than they ever suspected could be going on.
It's a story about robots and queer people and queer robots (most of whom are also autistic), and so much of the Big Plot Stuff is a metaphor for the times we live in and the backslide in attitudes towards trans folks in particular, but also it's about having adventures in space and robots and spaceships and the power of solidarity, and we're both so excited about the whole thing. It really is one of those stories where we're putting everything that we love into it, and it's going to be big and epic and it's terribly daunting to thinking about the work that's going to go into a ten chapter webcomic, but we love this story and these characters and it's going to be a thing that we can actually share eventually. You should absolutely check out the blog we're been throwing the character development art onto if any of this sounds like a good time to you too.
(No, this post wasn't originally intended to be a 'check out our webcomic-in-development post, but it sort of is now, I guess.)
So yeah, stories! I have so many, they're all I want to talk about, please talk to me about some of these ideas if any of them have grabbed you, you'll make my week.
#personal stuff#long post#very long post sorry but screw it i don't want to hide any of these beyond a link#this is of course the point where i forget all of the tags that i use for original stuff#oc tag#red shift blue shift#i should not be posting this at this time of night no one will see it but oh well#it's more a brain dump than anything else

Yesterday we had our pauper event fire off with a whole TEN people I'm very happy, it's the most we've been yet :) Before, we were mostly 4-6 people. These days we're more around 6-10, which is awesome

I was playing Dimir infect as you can see! The list is in the alt text.
This deck is a lot of fun, and in many ways more consistent than mono green. However, here were my match ups, went 1-2 overall.
VS Bogles, 1-2. Was on the draw, lost the 1st one cause I couldn't go quick enough. Second one, I resolve a stinger, put a 5/1 sticker on it t3, opp doesn't find an answer, scoop. Miss played g3 : I wanted to get some life back and offensively used unexpected fangs on my dude. However I had forgotten about Ram Through and my creature was removed. I was not quick enough to rebuild and I lost this way. This was very winnable however!
VS Boros synth, 1-2. Here I know opp has a lot of removals : journey to nowhere post board, but also 4 bolts, 4 galvanic and 3 foundry helix (I was lending the deck so I know the decklist very well ahah). I tried my best to protect my things, however I made several slight mistakes. Similarly I was on the draw and won one game by being able to pass through my opp unhindered. Last game I had a moment of confusion and tried to protect an attacker from a krark clan shaman with Apostle's blessing. However! I had other creatures and blessing is actually a card I should use on offense! I would've been able to win if I had done it like that. Too bad but we'll, I'm learning!
VS Boros, 2-0. My sole win of the evening! Same principle as the last match BUT I had just learnt from my mistakes so I made better plays. Opp was also unprepared for infect and had a hard time adjusting to the threat. Game 2 I just kept a kind of greedy hand : no creatures, yes! But island and 2 ponders... And you know what they say, island ponder = keep! And I was able to stack my deck in such a way that I never missed a land drop, got a creature, AND godly protection. 3 Apostle's blessing and 2 dispels, as well as 2 command performance! I had everything to shrug off my opp's removal and attack without fear, which just got him.
I had a lot of fun even tho I lost the two first matches. Now what I've got to do is get more experience with it, notably with sideboarding. I have a kind of hard time figuring out how to sideboard here because I feel like I can keep my entire deck ahah, everything is relevant! I have a lot of leeway for improvement.
Thanks for reading, I hope you too wherever you are, have enjoyed some pauper recently, or plan to!!

• The Holy Bible is real news, Biblical prophecies are today's news headlines!• Keep a repentant and sincere heart.
• Seek the Lord while He may be found. (Isaiah 55:6-7)• Salvation through Jesus Christ is for all people. Jesus Christ loves and died for ALL ethnicities. He does not esteem one ethnic group over another. The Lord looks at the heart, not the outward appearance... · "... For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." -1 Samuel 16:7 · "For there is no respect of persons with God." -Romans 2:11
• I believe Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)
• I do not rely on preachers and teachers to spoon-feed me Biblical scripture; I study the Holy Bible/Biblical Scripture for myself ("Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." -2 Timothy 2:15). What I've studied and stored in my heart is continuously with me.
• Although I do not depend on or expect ‘preachers and teachers’ to spoon-feed me God’s Word, I am grateful for and respect Holy Ghost-filled and knowledgeable Christian leaders (e.g. pastors, ministers, teachers, etc.) Specifically: David Wilkerson, Emery Moss, George William Bogle Sr., G. Craige Lewis, George Bogle, Derek Prince, R.D. Henton, Charles Lawson, Dr. Kent Hovind, Amir Tsarfati, Jack Van Impe, Jacob Prasch, John Haller, etc.
• You need to understand why and what you believe. (*It is ok to ask sincere questions.)
• Modern-day ‘Pharisees’ do exist. Pharisees are religious judgmental hypocritical individuals; They are NOT real Christians! Too many fake so-called 'Christians' pretend to love the Lord and people but their actions and the way they live their lives are contrary to what they say they believe.
• Going to church doesn’t automatically make someone a Christian. There are many snakes and wolves that attend church services.
• Seeking Jesus Christ should always be a personal choice.
• Do NOT be lukewarm. (Revelation 3:15-16)

As long as you are alive you have a chance to repent and seek Jesus. He is the ONLY (and eternal) hope in this lost and dying world. Jesus loves us and wants us all to be right with Him.

PS.: There is an agenda bigger than being 💉ed or un💉. It is about CONTROL! No matter what political leaders, media or 'influencers' say, freedom of choice is important (those who think otherwise aren't intelligent!).
Life as we know it will never be the same. 'Normal' is never coming back (and it has nothing to do with a pandemic.) The 2020 pandemic was used as a springboard to bring forth a NWO (as described in Biblical scripture).
If you know, you know. If you don't know, I hope you wake up to what is truly occurring.

¶ … health and quality improvement. Specifically it will discuss how to manage weight with proper diet and exercise, including the quality improvement process of how to achieve a healthy weight. As with many people in the United States today, I have experienced a weight gain, and this seems to be increasingly common in college. My weight is out of control, and I want and need to improve my health with proper diet and exercise. This paper will detail the QI process of how I will achieve this goal. The Goals of My Program I need to lose weight, and I am not alone. A group of authors writes, "Due to a lack of healthy eating and regular exercise, a significant proportion of college students are becoming increasingly susceptible to overweight and obesity" (Stellefson, Wang & Klein, 2006). The first step in this process is to identify my short- and long-term goals for this process. I want to lose 50 pounds, and I want to do it within a year. That averages out to about 1 pound per week, which seems like a realistic goal. In addition, I would like to develop a diet plan that I can stick to, and that becomes a lifestyle change for me, rather than a diet that would be too restrictive and might give me the incentive to go off it or "blow" it by eating undesirable and unhealthy foods. I would like to modify my diet to take advantage of more healthy food choices, rather than settling on a restrictive diet. Two authors on diabetes note about dieting, "And what is the magic formula? It's a diet that tastes good, is easy to follow, promises quick weight loss results without feeling hungry or deprived, and includes detailed menus of what and how much to eat" (Nathan & Delahanty, 2005, p. 137). That's exactly what I need, and what I will look for. There are guidelines, however, and my research shows to achieve my goals, I need to understand caloric intake. Several authors note, "Usually a calorie reduction of 500 to 1000 calories per day will be sufficient to decrease weight at the rate of 1 to 2 pounds per week" (Hunt, Bogle, Gillentine & Daughtrey, 2001). Since that is my weight loss goal, I know that what I eat will have to decrease, because I am sure I eat far more than that now. To make this decrease, I have to monitor what I am consuming now, so I know how many calories to cut. A group of writers note, "Self-monitoring may, consist of such strategies as recording food intake including amounts, calorie and nutrient content, and fat grams, and recording events or feelings that promote overeating" (Hunt, Bogle, Gillentine & Daughtrey, 2001). That is the first intervention I need to start, and I will start it today. To go along with my diet, I would like to develop an exercise regimen to help me regain my health and that is doable, that I will not procrastinate or avoid because it is too difficult to maintain with my lifestyle. To go along with that, I want to get more exercise in my daily activities, such as walking or riding a bike to school instead of driving, parking farther away from my destination and walking more, and taking advantage of exercise classes on campus. I feel these are all attainable goals, and they will give me the impetus to change my diet, get healthy, and remain that way throughout my life. Now, I will analyze data as to how to achieve my goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Collect and Analyze the Data to Measure Against my Goals Now that I have identified my goals, I need to collect data and analyze it to ensure I meet my goals. First, I must select the type of healthy eating habits I will engage in to reach my goals. I know that one thing I need to cut out is fast food. I eat a lot of fast food because it is easy, convenient, and I am often pressed for time. I need to stop relying on fast food, because it is very high in fat and calories, and it is very unhealthy. Therefore, when making my decision, I must find healthy alternatives that are also quick and easy. I will identify the three basic types of diet or eating programs that I can choose from, analyze them, and then choose the one that makes the most sense for me and my lifestyle. Very low-fat diets. These diets urge the dieter to eat only 10% of their calories from fat. They make sense because fat contains more calories than protein and carbohydrate do (fat contains 9 calories per gram, while protein and carbohydrate contain 4 calories per gram) (Nathan & Delahanty, 2005, p. 140). If you limit your fats, you can eat a lot more protein and carbohydrate so you feel full while you eat fewer calories. Many of these diets severely restrict meats, and urge the dieter to become a vegetarian. The authors note about these diets, "Although very-low-fat diets are touted as being simple and easy to follow, many people find them difficult to follow for the long-term because of the number of food restrictions and the limited number of meal options when eating out" (Nathan & Delahanty, 2005, p. 141). These diets also restrict even the "healthy" fats, like olive oil, fish oil, and others that have been proven to create better heart health, so I think they are suspect. I think this type of diet would be too restrictive for me and too hard to stick to, because I do like meat, and I would not want to severely restrict it. I think choosing healthier alternatives, like chicken and fish, is better than restricting it entirely. Low-carbohydrate diets. Some people call low-carb diets "high-fat" diets, because many of the allowable food choices are high-fat foods, like butter, cream, red meat, and cheese. However, a low-carb diet can be made more healthy by choosing other alternatives, such as lean meats like chicken and fish, avoiding high-fat dairy options, and eating a lot of vegetables, salads, and even some low-carb fruits, like strawberries or blueberries. If I was suffering from type-2 diabetes, a low-carb diet might be the right choice for me. The authors continue, "For people with diabetes, an important potential benefit of low-carb diets is that they can dramatically lower blood-glucose levels and insulin requirements (Nathan & Delahanty, 2005, p. 145). Since I do not suffer from diabetes, I'm not sure this diet is right for me. I like meat, but I think I need to look at another alternative before I decide. Balanced diets. These diets combine the right, healthy types of foods to create an eating plan that is based on healthy choices, rather than overly restricting foods. It is more of a common sense approach to eating. For example, replacing red meat with poultry and fish, replacing high-fat breads and side dishes with lower-fat vegetables, fruits, and salads, and drinking more water or juice instead of high-fat sodas and lattes. These are all fairly easy choices to make that do not take a lot of time and energy to figure out. Ultimately, the idea of any diet is to eat fewer calories and lose weight. All of these diets will help you do that, it is just finding the one that is right for my body, my lifestyle, and me. After considering all of these diet types, I think I want to design a lifestyle shift around the third, common sense plan. I think that fits the best for my tastes, my needs, and my particular lifestyle, and I think it would be the easiest to keep and maintain throughout my life. I know that I will have to make important decisions about my eating habits, but I feel I can do this with help from menu plans, Web sites, and perhaps even a nutrition class to help me understand the foods I put into my body. I also have to identify the type of exercise I want to pursue. I already noted ideas to walk more, park farther away, and such. I will also take stairs instead of elevators, and generally try to become more active in my everyday life. I know that is not enough, so I have to decide on a regular exercise program. It is hard for me to join a gym and keep up the commitment. I do not like going to the gym, especially when I am overweight, and I do not like having to choose a time to go every day. With my schedule of work and school, it is difficult to fit in gym at irregular hours. However, I do have the ability to buy a DVD workout program and workout at home. This fits into my schedule much better, and now, there are so many different programs to choose from, that I can find one that fits my interests and needs. I have seen programs based on dancing, kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, and intensive aerobic workouts. Since I am out of shape and have little free time, I think I should choose a program that is not too long and starts out slowly, building up as I become more fit. I will look for a program that is 30 minutes or so, and has different options for me as I progress through the program, something like the "Power Half Hour" workout I researched online. I think the best way to check these out is to rent a few from a video store, and then choose the one I like the best. It also needs to utilize the basic principles of beneficial exercise. Another author notes, "In order to maintain the weight loss, you must exercise. Your fitness program should include three critical components -- cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and stretching and flexibility training" (Villarosa, 2007). I will evaluate the programs I test to see if they contain all these components, and choose the one that most meets those requirements along with my own requirements. Opportunities for Improvement I definitely know that I have to improve my eating habits and my physical exercise, as I have outlined. Exercise is as important as diet, for a number of reasons. The two authors continue, "Exercise should be part of every weight loss program because you need to increase the calories that you burn relative to the number of calories you consume" (Nathan & Delahanty, 2005, p. 138). I know that is true, and I know I have to add it to my goals for good health, and not just because of the weight loss benefits. The Mayo Clinic reports on a variety of other health benefits from regular physical activity, including lowering cholesterol and maintaining heart health, improving mood and sleep, boosting energy, and it can actually become a pleasurable and enjoyable activity (Editors, 2009). Exercise is a key to feeling better about myself, too, because it allows me to maintain a healthy weight and feel good about keeping my goals and adhering to them. Another opportunity for improvement is changing my diet. I know that I have to eat more healthy alternatives, like vegetables instead of high-fat fried foods, and leaner meats, but I have the opportunity to learn more about cooking and preparing foods, and how to choose the right foods that are not only healthy but also fun to eat. I do not cook very much, but I think that I would like to learn how, and I would like to have more choices of what I put into my body. Cooking myself I can choose the ingredients I like, and cut back on fat, salt, and other additives that are in many of the fast foods I eat now. I worry about having the time to cook, but I know that when I am rushed, I can also buy prepackaged salads and frozen steamed vegetables, and I can look for healthy frozen meals, like Healthy Choice or Weight Watchers at the supermarket. A good result of this may be that while I am eating healthier, I may save some money, because fast food can become expensive, and I may learn some new cooking skills, too. Another opportunity here that has to be addressed is drinking and partying, because I am sure that has helped add to my weight gain. Almost all the students I know go out on the weekends (and some during the week) to drink and party. They overeat a lot, too. I know that I will have to cut back on alcohol when I change my lifestyle, because it is just loaded with empty calories, and I know making that decision is an intervention in my lifestyle, and the right choice for me. I may lose some of my partying friends with my decision, but I think that is really an opportunity to gain a healthier lifestyle and do away with a bad habit at the same time. Design and Implement Interventions to Improve the Outcome I know that this is not an easy thing to achieve, and that I have to have interventions to fall back on when I fail to attain my goals, or feel the need to "cheat" on my diet. I think one way to do this is to ask for support from my friends and family. They know I am unhappy with my weight and they have encouraged me to do something about it. In addition, research indicates that college students often benefit from social support from friends and family when they are trying to lose weight. Another writer states, "One 'intervention' source that has been frequently acknowledged, but not often emphasized, is the use of social support to effect positive behavior change" (Gruber, 2008). I can foresee some problems with some of my friends, who like to go out drinking and then chow down at fast food places. I know that I may not be able to hang out with these friends, but that is a lifestyle choice that I have to understand. It is better for my health and well-being, and that is now an important priority in my life. Another intervention that I will take on right away is to rid my kitchen of any food that does not fit in with my healthy eating plan. I tend to eat a lot of snacks, and those are going in the trash when I go home. I also have a lot of sugary cereals and stuff, just because they're easy to eat and quick to prepare. I will get rid of those choices too. To modify my diet, I will add more whole grains to my diet, and reduce sugar, because it is also just filled with empty calories. I will modify how I think about eating and about my body, because making healthier choices can help me live longer, feel better, and look better, too. Besides looking for help and support from my friends and family, I will look for more information on dieting and exercise, and continue to learn more. When I become discouraged, I will look for online support groups, too, because I think that they can offer emotional support, but also information about why you are not meeting your goals, and how to deal with discouragement. I will not give up on my diet and exercise program, I will use these interventions in case I do become discouraged or tired of the regimen. I will look for healthy foods that I really like, and I will not stop exercising. Instead, I will look for another exercise program if I get tired of the one I am currently using, or switch programs from time to time, so they do not become monotonous and boring. The Effectiveness of the Interventions Since I have just begun my program and research to lose weight, it is difficult to measure the effectiveness of the interventions yet. However, I am confident that the interventions I have noted will be successful, and they will help keep me on the right path to losing weight. I am determined, which is one good trait, and I know I have the support of the people who are important to me. I also look forward to developing an exercise program and learning more about a healthy lifestyle, so I think that will keep me interested and motivated to reach my goals. Finally, I am excited about learning more about cooking and preparing food, and learning about new ingredients that I might never have discovered before. I think that will also help keep me motivated and interested as I start the process. Since my research shows that interventions are a key ingredient in losing weight and staying healthy, I am confident these interventions will be effective and will help me accomplish my long-term goal of losing weight while maintaining a much healthier lifestyle. I am also confident that I have made the right choice, and that my goals are attainable and reasonable. References Editors. (2009). Seven benefits of regular physical activity. boglings make everything better Bloody and broken from a bad fall, all Cal can do now is wait for a rescue. Luckily, some boglings are more than happy to help ease the pain. (CKW Day 2: "That doesn't look good." / Bogling)
He comes to in pieces.
Rocks under him, a soft breeze through his hair, a relter’s cries up on high. Something wet and dripping off his face, pooling over his lips. Cal swipes out his tongue then immediately regrets it when all he tastes is blood. He squints his eyes open, barely able to see through his own lashes. Everything is…blurry, a nauseating mix of colors. With a groan that hurts, he closes them again and exhales slowly. His chest is on fire, his ribs grinding in that unfortunately familiar way. His hip is the kind of numb that would have him worried if he had the brain capacity to think right now.
But he can’t think. He can’t remember – what happened? Climbing. He’d been climbing on…Koboh. For no reason other than Pili said there was an interesting plant they wanted a seed from. No Imperials. No Raiders. Just him, and –
“BeeDee,” it scraps out of his dry throat, no more than a wheeze of dust and blood. Cal reaches with a screaming shoulder and pats the area around him, searching for his buddy. There’s nothing but rocks and scraggly grass. Choking on a sob, he cracks his eyes open again, this time forcing them to open wider. Only one of them does so, the other gummed up and feeling burning hot. What happened? “BeeDee,” he tries again desperately.

Leeds United: Meslier, Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Firpo, Ampadu, Gruev, James (Gelhardt 90+2), Aaronson (Byram 90+2), Gnonto (Rothwell 88), Joseph (Piroe 84).
Subs not used: Cairns, Darlow, Debayo, Crew, Chambers. Leeds United's owners have allowed a huge number of players to leave the club over the last few weeks, including four of last season's most important first team regulars. They've made a lot of money as a result, but so far have only reinvested a tiny fraction of it on new players.
We now have the bare bones of a squad (officially the smallest in the league). The starting eleven for the match against Sheffield Wednesday still looked pretty strong, but the bench included two goalkeepers and three members of the youth team….
There are only a few days to go before the transfer window closes. Yesterday Leeds finally signed another player - Belgian forward Largie Ramazani - and hopefully there will be a few more additions before it's too late.
After getting just two points from our first two league games, we really needed a win. I couldn't watch the game as I was at the All Points East festival, but the highlights looked pretty good and both goals were excellent. Brenden Aaronson is no substitute for Georginio, but nevertheless he seems to be redeeming himself….
