Coconut Grove’s Ultimate Garden Party
Bali Ha’i celebrated its 25th year as hundreds of patrons enjoyed delicious bites and craft cocktails on the grounds of the historic Kampong in Coconut Grove.
The festivities started with champagne and crudités on the point overlooking Biscayne Bay. The party then migrated to the main garden where restaurants including Talavera, La Basque, Guacho Ranch, Charcoal Garden Bar & Grill, Caro Chocolates, and Honeybee Doughnuts served tasty nibbles while Ketel One vodka and Don Julio tequila mixed tropical libations. A silent auction was held in the main house with items such as bicycles, artwork, home accessories and excursions up for bid. Proceeds from the event go to support The Kampong.
The Kampong was home to Dr. David Fairchild and his wife Marian for over 47 years. In 1984, The Kampong was entered into the National Register of Historic Places and is one of five gardens listed in the National Tropical Botanical Garden, a network of diverse gardens and preserves with significant biological, cultural, and historical resources. "...the need for a garden of rare palms and vines and ornamental trees and shrubs which would be near enough to a growing city to form a quiet place where children with their elders could peer, as it were, into those fascinating jungles and palm glades of the tropics which have for generations stimulated the imaginations of American youth." # DavidFairchild #coconutgrovelocal #coconutgrovemiami #miami (at Southwest Coconut Grove, Miami)

The Exodus
Author: David Fairchild
Narrator: Jacqueline Rendell
Length: 21 hours 22 minutes
Genre: Thriller
A girl who feels nothing; a boy who sees shadows and hears what others cannot; a baby without license to be born; a deaf teenager and scientific savant; offensive people; a general who passed law to hunt, imprison, and kill them all.
Where do they hide when the sub-nations of the United States draw their own lines in the ground that dictate which people get to be oppressed and who gets to be offended? The Salvo Cartel built the tunnels to help them escape, to aid those with mental ailments, those who question, those who refuse to conform, gays, Christians, artists, people with scruples, and other deviants. Do they flee to Salvo's underground cities, with eyes set on a grander safe place? Where do they go when Lady Liberty douses her light? Perhaps the same place she's been pointing her torch towards ever since she stepped atop her pedestal and realized at once that one day she, too, would be told to shut up.
