yo, heads up to anyone who isn't subscribed to dave malloy's mailchimp, he's holding a fundraiser to make an album of his most recent show Three Houses, which looks epic and we'd all really love to hear it I'm sure! It runs until October 3rd!

This is currently my favorite song from Three Houses! I took a stab at transcribing the lyrics beneath the cut. (?)s indicate lines that I'm very uncertain about. Feel free to pitch in, if you think you can fill in any gaps! ^_^

SUSAN:

I spent all day on the dusty floor reading every page.  It was the story of my grandmama and grandpapa, how they met and fell in love and how they parted as they were fleeing Latvia, Russians on one side, Nazis on the other, a hay truck escape, as the berries and plums of their orchard were bursting with ripeness.

GRANDMAMA:

A summer day

Wooden fence against the clear blue sky

Flowers and bees

Burnt yellow grass beneath white birch trees

A hay truck is waiting

There’s no room for our bags

Cannonfire coming closer

His eyes so far away

He lays me down in the hay

Rests his fingers on my cheek

Smiles so sweetly

It breaks my heart

And says: 

GRANDPAPA:

I can’t leave yet

The berries and the plums

Their harvest time has come

You must sail

Away without me

And I’ll come find you both when all the work I have is done

Someday

When all my troubles here are over

GRANDMAMA:

He always had a darkness

Demons lurking underneath his skin

Everyone knew the sadness he hid behind a grin

Late nights in the barn

Pounding metal (?) 

Drinking wine

Stumbling through the smoke

Burning his arms against the forge

I listen at the door

Hear his screams and sobs

Whisper to the child inside of me:

“Help me pray for him.”

I can’t leave yet

saw three houses this weekend and dave really got me with the

So apparently, the three houses album is going to have 23 tracks, and according to wikipedia each house has 7 tracks each. That makes 21 tracks plus the coda, leaving us one track short soooo...
