i like how barton went from being like... a hippie in terms of how he viewed sex in his early twenties, then kind of abstained from it for a few years / became sexually repressed, which... definitely isn't such a good thing. BUT then he became even more of a freak (and i do mean that in the good way this time LOL) around the time he started residency because WOW is that shit stressful. though that was also unfortunately around the time when he really started to spiral as well 😬 but we don't need to talk about that ahahhh
like the way this man learned how to express his sexuality REALLY came full circle in the end considering he was like 'yeah, back in the early days that i was in college, i was a freak. but now i'm not anymore... though do you want to see me do it again anyway?' like 💀 JSJSJ if he weren't so demented, i'd almost be inclined to say good for him, y'all LMAO feeling comfortable with your sexuality and perhaps even having a bit of fun with it (though maybe too much in barton's case, because he literally weaponizes it in order to lure in his victims. BUT once again, we don't need to talk about that right now psshhh. i actually fully intend on talking about that in the tags NGL) is more often than not a good thing after all
#OF MONSTERS AND MEN: musings.#nah but although i haven't really mentioned this before... when i first developed barton he had ALWAYS been kind of sexually repressed-#because he was sort of brought up by wesley to believe that it was one of those 'taboo' topics to the point where he had to get the talk-#from winslow and i'm not gonna lie i kind of find that WILD now LMAO because i mean like i said here a big part of how barton lures-#people in to eventually become his victims is through flirting with them and going on dates with them.#so like whenever i think about it now it didn't really make sense for barton to view sex as this 'hush-hush' topic bc he quite literally-#uses his sexuality to his advantage as i said here / weaponizes it. though expressing your sexuality isn't bad in and of itself OFC#the way in which he goes about doing it personally is just. Wellll not so good for lack of better words JSJSJ because barton is-#a serial killer whom has actually been sensationalized in the news (bc y'all know how terrible the news is when it comes to this stuff)-#into being called the 'heartbreak killer' because barton manipulates people and basically says exactly what they want to hear as well-#as makes himself as physically attractive as possible to voluntarily get his victims to come with him which is. yeahhh YIKES#but i can imagine that as soon as the news found out for the first time that his victim had last been reported to be going on a date-#with someone that they latched onto that and made it into a story that lacks the seriousness that something like that should-#always be treated with TBH because although they are just characters whenever it comes to the scope of their world they aren't and-#are living people so??? it's TOTALLY wack to be exploiting people like that to get views especially in a place like gotham where-#there's already enough craziness as it is without giving a serial killer a name that basically equates the murders to 'heartbreaks'-#which are definitely not on the same level at ALL but anyhow. i'm rambling now SKSKS#this isn't to say that barton always uses his sexuality to fulfill bad objectives bc like i said it isn't bad in and of itself -#though the fact that he does says something about him as a person since it's a rather sensitive thing for a lot of people you know?#and making people feel like they're wanted? when in actuality you just?? want to kill them??? it is severely messed up so yeahhh#tw: manipulation#tw: sex mention#tw: barton just being an asshole tbh

Masterlist

Coming back home to Texas was not on your bingo card for this summer.
However, when you caught your ex-fiance cheating on you with your best friend-- packing your bags and taking the first plane back was the only logical thing to do.
You got home about two weeks ago. Your older sister and little brother were more than excited to have you back. Especially your little brother, Wesley.
He had just turned 18, and the two of you have always been as thick as thieves. A lot of the closeness is due to your mom dying while giving birth to him and your dad pretty much shutting down.
However, you stepped in, pretty much raising him.
You and your older sister, Everly, were close as well– as close as sisters could be. She was 5 years older than you, married to her high school sweetheart, and had a little boy who everyone called ‘Bubba’.
She lived just a few miles from your family’s property, but she and Bubba usually made it over to your dad’s daily to help around the house and hang out.
This past week, Wes has been training for this year’s county fair rodeo show that was happening next week.
You had done the morning chores, which included feeding the chickens and ducks and cleaning out the donkey pen and the stables. You finished with making sure your horse's stable was stacked full of what he needed.
After you were finished, you walked over to the training pen and saw Wes and Trigger running around barrels, getting everything refined for the big event he was competing for.
“You’ve got to pull back on him on that third barrel, Wes!” your dad shouted, sitting on the edge of the fence, with his arms crossed across his chest, observing.
“Got it…” Wes mumbled, patting Trigger's side before softly saying to the dark black horse, “Let’s try one more time bud…”
You climbed up on the fence and leaned against it, “That horse knows how to cut quick. Why are we runnin’ him days before the event?” you said, nodding at your dad and toward your brother.
“Because it’s not the horse that’s goin’ win the medal, it’s Wes, and if can’t control the damn thing, he shouldn’t compete.” your dad clipped back at you.
Your dad wasn’t always the warmest to any of you, but more so Wes. Part of you thinks that deep down, he might have blamed him for your mom's death. He was hard on and pushed him, but something always seemed insensitive. It seemed more callous than when he did it to you and Everly.
“If you push the horse too hard, he’ll hurt himself, effectively hurting Wes in the process…” you tsked and got down from the fence. “Gotta think about that component too, Dad…” You turned around and started walking away.
There was a pause, and then your dad turned his head to look at you.
“Chores done?” your dad bit out, closing the other conversation.
“We wouldn’t be over here if they weren’t,” you shot back before walking back towards the house.
You cleaned up for the day and got ready to work in a coffee shop in town.
The goal was to escape the inevitable argument your dad would start with you when he came inside about what happened earlier.
You left the house before they got in and drove to the shop downtown. It was a newer shop, wasn't here when you left a few years ago.
You order a drink and something small to eat and then set up at a table in the back, near an outlet.
You grew up in this town, so mostly anyone and their dog knew you. Since coming home all of a sudden, working in a public place was brave but also downright stupid. Everyone and their moms want to know why. What happened? Why isn't Riley with you? Why aren't you wearing your ring?
You put on your headphones and set your music to shuffle as you start working on a project you must complete for one of your clients in the next couple of days. You knew that in the coming week, things would get busier with the rodeo and fair prep happening. Knowing your dad and how he'd delegate work to you, you just knew your personal time would be limited.
Back in Nashville, you worked as a social media manager for a small boutique and a local up-and-coming musician. Both were highly supportive of your decision to move back to Texas and made things work with you remotely, for which you couldn’t be more grateful for their flexibility.
You were just about to wrap up one of the posts to send off for approval when you felt your phone buzz on the table. It was Riley,
Can we please talk? I know you said you needed time, but it’s been two weeks– we’ll need to talk this out eventually.
You scoffed and shook your head, closing your phone screen and muttering, “Talk it out? There’s nothing to talk out, you cheated on me with my best friend of 15 years, you dumbass.”
You sent off the post for review and then took out your headphones, standing up for another cup of coffee.
You walked to the counter and asked for another latte. The barista said they’d bring it over to you. You smiled and thanked her, but then, when you went to turn around, you bumped into someone behind you.
“Oh shoot, I’m so sorry, pardon me…” You quickly apologized, flustered that you weren’t watching where you were going.
“No harm, darlin’...” You saw a brown-eyed man smiling down at you, his large, strong hands on your arms, holding you steady from when you bumped into each other.
You swallowed before nodding and kindly smiling. “Thanks…” His hands let you go just as gently as they held onto you, before you nodded to where you were sitting. “I uh… excuse me,” you said before returning to your table.
You sat back down and didn’t realize how flustered you were until you saw in the reflection of the computer screen how red your cheeks were.
You let out a long and slow breath before tapping a few buttons to wake your screen again, refocusing yourself on your work.
You didn’t see that the man you had bumped into had his eyes still on you from the front.
He was watching you, his hands in his pockets, tapping his foot lightly as he began to think about how he could approach you without seeming too eager.
He was waiting for his coffee when the barista went to leave the front counter with your coffee in hand.
He cleared his throat and smiled brightly, “Here, why don’t you let me Susie– looks like ya’ll are busier than a hive fulla bees…” He winked and outstretched his hands.
She nodded and smiled at his gesture to help: “Thanks, Joel. You’re a peach…” She handed him the coffee in a to-go cup with your name and order written on it.
He smiled and walked over to your table, softly clearing his throat before he set it down next to your laptop, “One cinnamon caramel latte with brown sugar sprinkles…” then chuckled after realizing your what your order was, “Damn darlin’, want some coffee with your sugar?” he lightly teased.
You looked up, feeling eyes on you, and took out your headphones, light music coming from them. “I’m sorry?” You then saw him in front of you and then the coffee and furrowed your brow. “Oh jeez, I’m so sorry. Did they call my name and I didn’t hear?” You looked past him at the counter, worried you misunderstood them say they’d bring it to you.
He smiled warmly, “No, I uh, sorry. I didn’t mean to confuse you… I just…” he chuckled as he nervously rubbed his fingers through his scruff, “Damn, uh… I’m sorry, I’m usually not like this…” he shyly looked down for a moment, biting his lip before looking back at you, “I just wanted to come apologize for earlier… I uhm, I was a little too eager to get my drink and I shoulda let you leave the damn line before rushin’ into you like that.”
You smiled softly and waved your hand, dismissing his apology. “I’m sure I had a clumsy factor in the equation, trust me.” You lightly chuckled. “How about we just assume 50/50 responsibility and not get the insurance involved for the fender bender…” you lightly joked.
He chuckled and nodded, “I’m Joel…” he held out his hand.
You recognized him from somewhere. However, you couldn't place where. So you nodded and said your name softly, and then your phone buzzed. It was one of your clients. “Oh, um, I’m sorry—I need to take this. Thanks for the coffee. It’s been lovely meeting you, Joel.” You picked up your phone and smiled softly before answering it.
Joel nodded and slowly backed away, saying your name repeatedly in his head, trying to remember if he knew you, as you looked somewhat familiar as well. He smiled to himself and tucked his hands back into his jeans before grabbing his coffee from the front and leaving the shop.
1 week later
Reader’s POV
It was the first of 4 days of the fair.
You sat in the bleachers with your sister, her husband and son, as well a friend, Tripp. Your brother and dad were getting everything together below in the arena and stables.
You were dressed in your best. From the best cowgirl hat you've ever owned to your boots. You wore tight jeans and a floral tank that showed just a sliver of your stomach and gave you some cleavage, wanting to get a tan but also mess with some cowboys.
“Look at that one, he’s a pretty one!” Everly joked, pointing out a cowboy below. He was good-looking, but you could smell his toxic masculinity from where you were. He was winking at every girl that swooned past him and was chewin' tobacco, which was an instant red flag for you.
You chuckled and shook your head, taking a small swig of your water. “Mmm, no, he screams ‘walking red flag’...” You continued to look around.
Tripp smirked and pointed to another young man, standing by his horse and tightening his saddle, “What about him?”
You smiled. “He seems kind, but he’s not my type... he's got a baby face,” You nudged him with your elbow. “Plus, I’m not lookin’ for anything serious right now. I’m still trying to figure out the whole Riley thing…” you sighed.
“Figure what out? What is there to figure out? You're done with him! Right?” he nudged you back, clearly annoyed you were still ‘thinking things over’.
You tsked and fiddled with the top of your water bottle. “It’s not like that… I just… am not in a place to be in a relationship when half of my things are still back at our place.” You shrugged. “That wouldn’t be fair.”
“To who? You or Riley?” he challenged.
You looked at him and bit the inside of your cheek. “Tripp, " you said, raising your eyebrow.
“What?” he looked at your sister. “Ev, tell her… it’s okay to move on.”
Your sister nodded. “He’s right. Riley didn’t hesitate. Why should you?” she shrugged, “But also, what’s wrong with just havin’ a bit of fun, no strings attached?” she giggled, nudging you with her elbow.
You nodded and chuckled, “Fine, fine… no strings.” You looked back down and hummed, taking in the cowboys below.
A few moments later, your dad came running up to the arena’s border, shouting your name, “Get in here! We need you and Buck. Randy’s son's damn horse got spooked and is running amuck!”
Buck was the arena's neutralizer horse. You and he had always helped when things like this happened, as the other horses couldn't risk getting hurt.
You quickly got up from your seat and ran down the bleachers before jumping over the fence, your dad and you running towards the chaos.
Joel’s POV
Joel had been up since before the birds started to chirp.
He started his morning by doing all the chores with his dad before they loaded up the trailer and headed to the fairgrounds around 6 a.m.
Joel had a few events he was in today and was eager to get back on the saddle after taking a few weeks off. He had taken time to rest after getting back from the national championship in Dallas.
He and his horse Moonshine were in the stables around 9 am as they needed to be out to the arena by half past.
The two of them having a quiet moment together to prepare for the busy buzz about to happen for the rest of the day.
He tightened his saddle, ensuring everything was secure, when his dad came in, “How are we lookin’?”
Joel nodded towards the dusty white horse that was built of pure muscle. He was his pride and joy. He’d spent the last 10 years breeding, training, and competing with horses for his dad. So when his dad told him that Moonshine was all his 2 years ago, Joel poured every minute he wasn’t working into this horse.
“He’s almost saddled up. I just need to make sure his hooves are clear, then we’ll be good.”
Santiago, or Santi as most called him, huffed and came around the back of Moonshine. “He’s got competition today. Ricky’s son is competing today; that horse is a beast,” he said, patting the backside of Moonshine’s rear.
Joel tsked and smiled. “You can have a beast of a horse, but unless the rider knows what he’s doin’ – it won’t do jack.” he looked at his dad as he lifted the first of Moonshine’s hooves to inspect. “Ricky’s boy is a little short upstairs and will get hurt before he wins anything on a horse like that.” he put the first hoof down and moved to another.
Santi just hummed and took a small breath in. “If you say so…” he clicked his tongue and turned around. "I’ll wait for you by the gate to the arena. Take your time and make sure everything is good, yes?” He began to stroll away.
Joel nodded, “Yes, sir.”
—
It didn’t take Joel more than 10 minutes to finish inspecting and preparing Moonshine.
The two of them walked casually out of the barn area. Joel kept his shoulders back and head held high; he exuded confidence as he walked from the barn to the main arena. He proudly wore his national championship belt buckle, which he used to intimidate fellow competitors.
He used a lead to guide Moonshine out towards the arena, which was now filled with guests loudly cheering on another event happening.
He wore the complete competition outfit, including his cowboy hat, black button-down shirt, jeans, and chaps. His vest had patches from his sponsors on both the front and back.
His dad was talking to Randy at the gate, a neighbor who had invested in Joel’s bareback and bull riding career.
Joel tipped his hat as he approached, “Good to see you, Randy. How’ve you been?” he smiled and grabbed his shoulder, pulling him into a hug.
Randy chuckled, “Good to see you, Joel! I’ve been better—bad knee!” He tsked before pulling back and looking over at Moonshine. “He’s a beaut, Joel. I'm excited to see him in action today.” He smiled and touched the horse's neck gently.
Joel turned and touched the other side of the horse's neck. “He’s been a fun one. I’m also excited for us to be back in the arena.” he looked back at the gate and nodded for the gatekeeper to open it.
Before they opened the gate, a loud commotion and frenzy ensued. Moonshine reared up slightly and chuffed in fear at a loud noise.
“Shh, shh, steady boy… steady,” he cooed to him, pulling on the brindle to calm and refocus him.
He turned to see what was happening and handed the lead to his dad.
He was walking up to the gate when the crazed riderless horse ran past. Not long after, another horse and rider buzzed by, trying to herd the crazed horse.
You swung a lasso and shouted at the horse, “Hey, hey!” before throwing it and landing it around its neck.
The second Joel saw who it was, it was like you were moving in slow motion to him.
You maneuvered your horse to pull back and redirect. The horse in question was headed straight for a group of people so you snapped back and pulled him away.
You hollered, “Woah there boy-o!”
You wrapped the rope around the horn of your saddle and then clicked your tongue and pulled the reigns to the left. “Here… let's go over here…” You tugged on the rope, trying to get the horse to follow you.
Your dad was watching from a distance. “Take ‘em to the barn!” he yelled at you.
You nodded and looked down at your horse. “Alright, Buck, let’s get his poor kid to the barn…” You patted his side affectionately and pulled up on the reins a little. Buck circled around and then headed towards the gate.
You looked back at the horse you were dragging along and smiled, “Let’s go, come on, pretty boy…” You coaxed the horse to follow you.
It settled and huffed a few times before walking close behind you and Buck. “There we go, that’s a good boy,” you said softly.
The gate opened, and you faced forward, tipping your hat at Scott, the gatekeeper. “Thanks, Scotty!” you smiled and winked then clicked your tongue and looked ahead of you. “Come on sweetheart…”
You saw Joel not connecting the dots of who it was with the get-up he was wearing.
His jaw is partially ajar, and his eyes are watching you as you moved.
It was like he’d seen God herself.
You chuckled and looked at Randy, whom you knew, he and your dad were good friends.
“Got yourself a trout rather than a cowboy there, Rand… " You nodded towards Joel, teasing.
Randy chuckled and then looked at Joel. “Good god, son, close your mouth before you catch a fly.” He swatted Joel's arm.
You giggled, clicking your tongue to get Buck to move faster, as you headed toward the barn.
Joel snapped out of his daze and looked at Randy and his dad, who were grinning at his reaction.
His dad shook his head, chuckling, “Just keep it in your pants until after the competition-- please and thank you.” he walked past Joel to get into the gate, tugging Moonshine with him, “Come on mijo, you’re up soon.”
Joel looked back at the barn and smiled, then looked at Randy who was still standing there with a shit eating grin, “You heard your dad, get goin’. She’ll be around all week...” he winked.
Joel competed, and on his way out, he saw you sitting down next to your sister and Tripp.
He saw you lean over and hold onto Tripp's arm, softly laughing at something.
A flame of jealousy burned up his neck. He fixated on you from the back of the arena, watching you interact with those around you, and figured that Tripp was either a friend or, worst case, a very early boyfriend. Either way, easy competition.
He also noticed that when a specific rider came out, you all went crazy, shouting and cheering loudly. He wondered who that might be and why he was so important.
Randy came up from behind and stood beside him. He followed his eyeline and lightly chuckled, “Since when are you not already over there markin’ your territory?” he joked.
Joel turned his head and chuckled lightly. “Mark my territory? What am I, a dog?”
Randy chuckled a little louder and then hummed, watching the barrel racer, your brother competing. “That’s her brother, Wes. Incase you’re wonderin’...”
Joel hummed and then realized how he knew your family. “She’s Judd’s daughter?”
“Middle kiddo. She’s the one who pretty much raised Wes after their mom died.” Randy said sadly, looking back towards you.
“I went to school with her. I remember when her mom died. How did I not recognize her the other day?" He slid his thumb over his bottom lip as he started to think about your interaction.
“She’s been in Nashville since she graduated. She and that boy she dated in high school moved up there when he got some fancy job,” he gossiped. “You probably didn’t recognize her; she looks a bit different than she did in high school.” Randy remarked.
Joel ran through his mind, thinking of who you were with in high school, then turned his head, “Riley! That's his name… what happened to him?” he raised his eyebrow.
Randy tsked, “The fucker cheated on her with Amanda." he sighed and tapped his thumb against the railing, "She found out, packed a bag and came back home.” he said sadly then turned to Joel.
Joel’s eyebrow raised, “Amanda, as in her best friend since they were like in elementary school, Amanda?” he asked, blown away.
Randy hummed as he nodded. “Bingo.”
Joel scoffed and looked back at you, “So she just had the ultimate fuck over…”
Randy nodded. “Betrayed by her best friend and fiancé... it doesn’t get any worse than that.”
Joel turned to look at Randy again, and his face showed complete disappointment. “She was engaged? And he cheated on her?”
Randy bit his lip for a moment, not wanting to divulge too much but he figured Joel should know, “From what I know, the wedding was supposed to be at the end of this summer, but not anymore. At least that’s what I’ve heard.” he kicked his foot into the ground, making some dirt dust up.
Joel hummed and looked at you, his features softened thinking what you'd been through the last few weeks. No one should go through that.
You stood up and waved goodbye to the group you were with, then put your phone to your ear as you headed up the steps of the arena.
“‘Cuse me, Rand… I’m going to go try to catch up with her. Apologize for earlier.” He said before hopping the gate and jogging towards you.
You were fast and beat him to the top.
He tried to keep up, but when he got up to the top, the crowd of people and busy traffic of the fair going on around the arena was too much; he’d lost you. “Damn it.” he tsked and dug his boot into the dirt frustrated.
After watching Wes’s event, you felt your phone buzz on the bleacher beside you. You picked it up to see Riley’s name displayed across your screen. Tripp looked over your shoulder and then raised his eyebrow at you. “You need to take that…” he suggested.
You sighed and nodded. Putting this off was only dragging the dead cat out for longer. You stood and quickly said goodbye, then slid to answer, “Hello?”
“Hey…” he sounded sad and quiet.
“What do you want?” you said as you started to jog up the arena steps.
“I—I… god,” he sighed. "Where are you? It’s so loud!” He sounded annoyed.
“That’s none of your business anymore, Riley. I asked you what you wanted, so please get to the point, or I’ll end the call,” you said coldly, looking around before gathering where you were and heading towards your car.
There was a pause, then he sighed heavily. “I just —baby, I miss you. When are you coming home?” he pleaded, his voice soft, almost begging.
You let out a numb chuckle. “Riley, there’s no us. You fucked that over the moment you put your cock between Amanda’s legs.” You bit out.
There was another pause. “She’s no longer an issue; I ended it with her. I realized how much I wanna fight for us, for you.”
You chuckled a little louder then shook your head; this was nonsense. He was nonsense.
“What don’t you understand? I don’t want to fight for us. I don’t want to be with you anymore!" you walked up to your car, "You cheated on me with my best friend for most of our fucking relationship. And then now that I know about it and did the logical thing and left you– now you cut things off with her?” you opened your car door and got inside, slamming it shut, “Riley you’re one stupid son of a bitch if you thought that I was coming back.” you started up your car.
“Why can’t we start over? Come back home, and we’ll go to counseling or get help, please. Give me a chance,” he pleaded.
You let him stew in silence before you spoke firmly, “You don’t get another chance. Your chance went out the fucking window when I asked you who was texting you and you lied to my face saying it was a co-worker.” you sat for a moment before lowering your voice, tears forming, “You went the lengths Riley… the lengths… to change the name of her contact to a ‘co-workers’ name so that I wouldn’t get suspicious.” you scoffed, a few tears falling down your cheeks, “That’s some psycho shit. That’s premeditated fuckin’ cheating bullshit.” you shook your head and chuckled a few times, wiping the tears, “God, you know, Amanda probably got her head out of her ass and left you -- and now you’re crawling back to me because when I left, you didn’t even flinch. You let me go.” you took in a shaky breath.
“I’m here. I’m here now,” he said after a few moments of silence. He knew you were crying.
Something in the way he said that severed whatever you had holding onto him. You had the clarity you needed; it was time to move on. You deserved more than this, more than he gave you for all those years.
“That’s not enough.” You let out the breath. “We’re done, Riley. I’ll have movers come and collect the rest of my belongings, your mom's ring will be returned to you, and I’ve already taken care of our financial matters. Don’t ever contact me again.” You hung up the phone and immediately blocked him before throwing your phone in the passenger seat out of anger.
You hit the steering wheel, your anger boiling over, “God damn it!” then you began to sob softly, not out of sadness, but out of finally feeling free.
The next day
Joel was walking down the arena steps after running to his truck quickly to grab the correct bit that he had forgotten before his event started. His mind was elsewhere, so he didn't even notice you as he walked past.
Everly saw him and nudged you. “What about him?” she nodded towards him as he walked down the steps and hopped over the fence into the arena.
You watched, humming softly, then noticed who he was when he turned his head and smiled at someone in the arena.
“Well I’ll be damned…” you chuckled, eyes following him as he walked into the back.
“What?” Everly looked at you like she was on the edge of her seat. “What?!” she exclaimed.
You chuckled louder and nodded his way. “I ran into him at the coffee shop about a week ago, and then he was the cowboy that I told you about yesterday-- the trout,” you giggled.
She gasped, “You’re kidding me, that’s the trout?! That's Joel Miller!” She hit your arm, giggling with you.
You nodded and kept your eyes towards him.
She looked that way as well, then looked at you, seeing you slightly blush. “You’re interested in him, aren’t you?” she giggled, a shit eating grin across her face.
You chuckled, “I wouldn’t say ‘interested’...” You blew off her accusation, trying to act calm and collected, but inside, you could feel your heart pound, and a small amount of heat rose to your cheeks the more you watched him move.
He was getting Moonshine’s bit adjusted, paying no mind to his surroundings.
You noted that he looked good handling a horse. He was in complete control. His hands gliding over the equipment confidently. There was something about watching a man with a horse that always appeased you, making you feral.
Riley didn’t come from the ranch life. His family was wealthy and privileged. They were full of snobby, rich aristocrats who didn’t care for anyone but themselves. Being with him and having that difference in family dynamics created rifts in your relationship. His family tended to look down on you. Behind your back, they referred to you as the ‘dirty ranch girl’. He never stood up for you either.
Joel hopped onto Moonshine and clicked his tongue, guiding him to where they needed to be. He took his hat off with one hand and pushed his hair back with the other before putting it back onto his head. He looked up to the crowd and noticed you already looking at him.
You were in a floral sundress, your boots, and to top it off, your cowboy hat on your head. You looked insatiable. He adjusted his hips as he felt a stir below the belt before making direct eye contact with you. “Who’s fishin’ for a trout now, sweetheart?” he mumbled to himself.
He caught your eye with his and grinned, tipping his hat to you and giving you a slight wink.
You immediately looked away shyly and couldn’t help the smile that grew across your face, softly chuckling to yourself.
He chuckled and looked up at the board, seeing how much time he had before he and Moonshine would compete.
5 minutes.
He looked back to you, and you were giggling with the guy next to you, the same guy you were sitting with yesterday.
Jealousy filled him again, a heat grew up his neck and his lips tightened.
He cocked his head and whispered, "Fuck it." then decided he had enough time to make his way over to you.
He swung his leg over and off Moonshine, then tied the lead to the fence. “Stay right here… I’ll be right back.” he muttered to the horse.
He jumped over the gate and then started to stroll over to your group.
Tripp saw and whispered, teasing, “Trout incoming…” then he realized he was actually heading over, “Oh fuck! He’s looking right at you babe! He’s coming over….” he nudged you to catch your attention.
You hummed curiously and turned to look, the blush on your cheeks betraying you when you found him again.
When you two made eye contact, he tipped his hat again and smiled at you.
‘Damn it. He’s going to be trouble.’ You instantly thought as butterflies erupted intensely in your core.
You swallowed nervously and began frantically fixing your dress, clearing your throat. Then, you stood and came down to the fence at the bottom of the bleachers, smiling at him on the other side. “Hey, cowboy…”
He approached the other side and grinned at the nickname, “How are you doin’ darlin’?”
You blushed and tilted your head, “I’m doin’ better now that you’re here sayin’ hello.” you flirted, leaning up against the railing.
He chuckled and ran his thumb against his bottom lip. “What’s a pretty girl like you doin’ out here today?”
You watched him touch his lip and bit the inside of your cheek to stop you from smiling too much. “I have a brother competing in barrel racin’...” You looked down at his belt and smirked. “Take it you’re competing too?” Your eyes trailed up his body, slowly landing back to his eyes.
He felt himself harden the way you were drinking him in, the way your eyes landed on his belt.
He smirked and tilted his head back at you. “I am. I’m out bare buckin’ today and then bull buckin’ tomorrow.”
You nodded and hummed, “You’ve got some competition in bare buckin’.” You nodded to the arena. “Rob Turner is competing. He's got a beast of a horse I've heard...” You looked over at that rider and his horse.
Joel looked back at Rob and chuckled, shrugging, “Eh, he’ll be easy to beat,” he said confidently.
You raised your eyebrow slightly and looked back at him. “Oh really? You think you’re good enough to beat him then, cowboy?”
He smirked, “Oh, am I no longer called ‘trout’, then?” he teased.
You turned red for a moment then cleared your throat, “Well today you didn’t look at me with your jaw open so wide that you could be catchin’ flies, so no.” you challenged, cocking your head and looking up at him confidently.
He raised his eyebrow at your playfulness then grinned and leaned forward on the rail that you had your arms folded against. His hands to his arms were straight to hold up his weight. “Well, apologies for the lack of manners yesterday, darlin’. I was stunned by your beauty, and in that moment, my jaw fell open…” he looked at you with a broad and warm smile.
You hummed, smiling back at him, “Well, I can’t say I haven’t been doin’ the same to you today. I guess we’re even?”
He tsked, “Oh really? You’ve been swoonin’ over me, huh?” he leaned a little in, “In that case, what can a cowboy do to take you out to dinner then?” he winked at you.
You leaned in to him and looked down at his lips, biting your bottom lip before you backed up a step and shrugged, “What can I say? I find cowboys attractive.”
He was speechless. He swallowed and chuckled shyly, not knowing what to say.
You saw the effect you had at him and loved it. You relished in your ability to make a man squirm.
You tipped your hat and smirked, “But I find champion-winning cowboys date-worthy…” You took another step back and looked at his belt. “Win that championship today, then you can ask me out to dinner.” You looked back up at him and smiled, blushing as you felt a sense of confidence with him, a feeling of safety.
He grinned as he looked at you. “I win. I get to take you out?”
You nodded. “Think you can do that or is that too hard for you to achieve, trout?” you jabbed playfully.
He liked this side of you. He didn't know you like this in high school. You were the quiet and shy girl, this girl, she was much more confident and he found it very attractive.
He smirked and bit his lip, offering his hand. “Deal.”
You walked back up to him and took his hand. “Deal.”
He brought your hand to his lips and kissed your knuckles, keeping eye contact with you.
You blushed and smiled softly, before shyly looking down for a moment before looking back up. “If you win, I’ll be up there with my family and friends…” You gently pull your hand away and cutely put both hands behind your back.
He nodded to Tripp, “That ain’t your date?” he chuckled.
You looked to where he was nodding and let out a chuckle. “What if it is?” You looked back at him, grinning. “Give you some competition…” You winked, then turned and started heading up the stairs. “Good luck out there, cowboy…”
He chuckled and pushed off the railing, “Ain’t gon’ need it darlin’! I’ve got a date on Friday night for you and me in the bag!” he shouted as you went up the stairs.
You giggled and went back to sit with Ev and Tripp. They both were grinning and began nudging you as you all watched him return to his horse.
After catching the two of them up on your conversation with Joel, you sat back and watched as he and Moonshine entered the pen where they were in before being released.
He found you again and smiled, nodding his head at you before looking down and tying his hand where it needed to go to prepare for the bucking.
While this happened, the announcer shouted throughout the arena, “Alright, alright! Our next competitor is this year's National Champion! He just returned home from travelin’ upstate for nationals… please help me give a huge warm welcome to our hometown champ– Joel Miller!”
The crowd went wild and you instantly turned red, “Oh fuck me…”
Tripp leaned over and muttered, “Oh, I fear he will be now…”
You swatted his arm and gasped, “Tripp!”
He chuckled and looked at Everly. “Am I wrong?!” he shouted over the crowd, grinning.
Everly looked at you and shook her head, giggling, “Girl, looks like you’ve got a date this weekend.”
You looked out towards the arena and couldn’t help but smile, chuckling, “I guess I do…”
—
As expected, Joel placed first in the bare-bucking competition, out-running the competition by a landslide.
Watching him compete and win was exhilarating to watch. He was meant to be on a horse. He was also meant to be a cowboy, the way he looked in that damn hat should be a sin.
As the arena started to clear, Joel came walking over after putting Moonshine back in the barn, smiling widely, presenting the new belt buckle he now had on himself.
Everly and Tripp chuckled, seeing him beam, and stood up. Tripp touched your shoulder and said, “We’ll be at the top when you’re done.”
They smiled politely and nodded at Joel before they made their way up the steps.
Joel smiled warmly and tipped his hat to them before looking up at you as he stood with his leg placed on the bleacher below you, leaning on his knee, “So, sweetheart, what time should I pick you up Friday evenin’?” he looked up at you with soft brown eyes.
You leaned your elbows on your knees and raised your eyebrow. “Not so fast. You didn’t say you were the national champion!” You tilted your head. “You knew you’d win today…” You grinned. “Now, I think that’s a little bit of an unfair advantage you had there, cowboy.”
He chuckled and reached up to gently mess with the hem of your dress, looking down, “Maybe I was keepin’ that little fact to m’self…” he looked back up, “That way I knew there would be a guarantee of takin’ you out…”
You blushed and pursed your lips together, looking away for a second with a smile so wide your cheeks hurt.
He watched you glow in front of him with the smile you had on your face. He felt his heart pounding against his chest. He’d been on bulls' backs, in bar fights, tamed wild horses, and in some of the most dangerous adrenaline high situations– but nothing made his heart beat this fast and strong like being around you.
You looked back at him and bit the inside of your cheek, smiling still. “Pick me up at 7.” You stood up and looked down at him, holding out your hand. “Give me your phone…”
He chuckled and stood straight, looking at you. “Pardon?”
You giggled, “Do you want my number or not?”
“Oh.” he smiled and pulled his phone out of his back pocket, unlocking it and holding it up to you, “Yes, please…”
You gently took it and put your number in, playfully looking at him every few seconds, blushing.
He smirked and swiped his finger across his bottom lip, his eyes momentarily looking at your body from top to bottom. "By the way, I like this dress on you. You look beautiful.”
You smiled at him and handed his phone back to him. “Text me later, I’ll send you my address and a photo for my profile pic…” you winked.
He took his phone but damn near dropped it with your last comment. His cheeks now turned a shade of pink, and he chuckled nervously. “I’ll text ya when I get home…” he looked down at his phone with your contact info on it, shyly.
You giggled at his reaction and nodded, “Good.” You then gathered your things and started to head up the stairs. “Congrats, by the way—on the national title,” you smiled.
He looked up and smiled warmly, “Thank you darlin’.”
You nodded and went up a few more stairs before turning back and shyly saying, “I would have gone out with you win or lose, you know?” You grinned and tilted your head cutely. “However, I’m glad to know I’ll be goin’ out with a county and national champion now…” You winked and then turned to continue up the stairs.
He chuckled and looked up at you. “You get to go out with a champ, and I get to go out with the prettiest girl in the world— I call that a win-win...”
You blushed and kept walking, shouting behind you, “Stop bein’ a flirt and go home so you can text me, cowboy!” You smiled to yourself, reaching the top.
He tipped his hat and chuckled, “Say less, darlin’...” Then he smiled as he hurried down the steps and jogged back to the barn to pack everything up as quickly as possible.
When you got home, you headed to your room to change into something more comfortable. Your legs felt filthy, as a layer of sunscreen and dirt from the fairgrounds covered them.
You start the shower and play soft music when you hear a ding from your phone.
You walked over and picked it up, seeing an unknown number had texted you,
‘Hey sweetheart, it’s Trout. 🎣’
You chuckled and realized it was Joel. You saved his number and typed back,
‘Hey there, cowboy. Get home safely?’
Almost instantly, a message appeared,
‘Safely and as quick as I could– what are you up to?’
You were stripped naked as you were about to shower. You typed back,
‘Just about to hop in the shower…’
You grinned, then put your cowgirl hat back on.
You then stood so that your silhouette shone against the wall from the setting sun. You held up your phone and snapped a photo. It perfectly sent a clear message but kept him on his toes.
You then sent the photo with the text,
‘Here’s that profile pic I promised you. 💗 Send one back?’
A few moments later, you heard your phone ding again,
‘Forgive me sweetheart– but damn! 😍’
You giggled and typed,
‘Come on! Send one of you, handsome! One with your hat! ;)’
‘...’ was displayed for a few minutes before a picture of him in the mirror with his cowboy hat on and black button-up partially undone by the collar, smiling with his dimples, came up on your screen.
‘I’ll send you a better one after my shower, how ‘bout that?’
You chuckled and set it to his profile picture before typing back,
‘Deal. Let’s both get today's grime off, and then we can send updated photos? 💗’
‘Deal. I’ll text you when I’m done, but take your time. I’ll be here, cariño.’ (Darling)
You blushed and set your phone down before hopping into the shower, smiling as you thought over the events of the past few hours.
—
When you got out, your sister knocked on your door, telling you to come downstairs. She said that your dad said it was important, but she sounded somewhat annoyed by the urgency she was told to imply.
You hurried and got dressed in jeans and an oversized sweater. The way she sounded annoyed made you anticipate the worst. Knowing your dad, he had frequently annoyed both you and your sister with antics, more so lately than ever.
When you went downstairs, you saw that your dad had prepared a feast celebrating Wes’s win for both events he was in. Friends and family buzzed about the house, excited to celebrate Wes and his hard work.
You looked at Everly, and the both of you took a breath and hopped into the mix to socialize.
You both put on fake smiles and masked how you were truly feeling. This wasn’t about your dad; this was for Wes. Who you both wanted to celebrate and who deserved this, no matter how you both felt about your dad.
You texted Joel when you had a moment,
‘Hey, so something came up after my shower with my family. I’ll text you after it’s all done. 💗’
You put your phone in your back pocket and focused on celebrating your little brother, who you were so proud of.
—
At the end, after everyone had gone home, you were in the kitchen starting to wash the dishes. You had texted Joel to call you in 5 minutes as you would be done then.
Everly was cleaning up the living room, and Wes went out with friends when your dad came in and cleared his throat. “Ev tells me you might have met someone today…” he probed.
You turned your head to look at him and nodded, keeping your reaction as minimal as possible, “Yeah, she’s right. I’ve got a date this weekend.” You pursed your lips into a tight smile and looked back to the soapy water.
“Who is it? Maybe I know ‘em…” he leaned against the counter, his arms folded, holding his beer, letting a small smile stretch across his lips.
You took a moment before speaking up, debating whether or not to tell him. He always stuck his nose in your business; for once, you wanted things to be somewhat private. However, you knew if you didn’t say anything, it would end up in a fight more major than it will be with what you were about to say.
You chose to bite the bullet and say ‘Fuck it.’ A fight with him wasn’t something new– bring it on.
“Santi’s boy, Joel.” Thinking about him, you smiled but fixed your gaze on the water.
“Nah, no, you’re not goin’ out with him,” he said in a tone that made you think he was joking.
You lightly chuckled and turned your head to look at him. “Yes, I am! Why not?” you smiled. “Is it hard to think I can swing one of the Miller brothers?” you joked back.
His face turned neutral. “I’m serious. You’re not goin’ out with Joel Miller. You know how I feel about that family.” he pushed off the counter and rolled his eyes at you as he took a swig of the beer.
Your smile dissolved, and you stood there momentarily, processing what he just said.
After absorbing it, you shook the suds off your hands and grabbed the dish towel to dry your hands, raising your eyebrow at him, “I’m sorry, I must’ve miss the part where you have a say in this dad… forgive me but am I not a grown ass woman and don’t need your permission to date someone...” you challenged.
He scoffed and looked at you, wanting to dig at you, “Well, you certainly aren’t a grown woman if you have to run home when your fiance makes a little accident.”
You clenched your jaw at that and threw the towel onto the counter. “An accident?” you bit out harshly. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you’d consider cheating an ‘accident’, Dad.” you shook your head in disbelief and looked back at him, “Did you ever do that to Mom? Was it valid enough to be unfaithful to her because it was an ‘accident’ to you?” you dug back.
He looked at you, and you knew immediately you had tapped on a nerve. The pride you felt was one of the best feelings in the world. You rarely found a nerve, but it was blissful when you did in moments like these.
You tilted your head, getting cocky. “Oh? That seemed to get to you.” You grinned. “Well, guess what, Dad? I don’t give a damn what you say, think or want. It’s my life.” you said firmly.
He looked down at the ground, then back at you. “You know the Millers are nothing but bad news.”
“No, Dad. The Millers are bad news because your granddad said they were bad news back in his day. Then he created an unfair, false narrative that has spread to you – come on?" You chuckled mockingly and started to walk up to him.
“Joel and Tommy were some of the most hardworking and kind boys when I went to high school with them.” You paused and looked at him, your breath catching in your throat. “And their dad?” you paused, “Santi brought us a meal when Mom died, Dad.” You teared up and shook your head, shrugging off anger you were starting to feel. “How can that be bad news?” you choked out.
He looked down at you and clenched his jaw before huffing a breath through his nostrils. “They are nothing but liars and cheats.” he said lowly.
You felt another heat of anger crawl up your back and needed to step away. “Liars and cheats or just better than you when it came to competition?” You shook your head and went to walk past him. “You’ve always been a poor loser.” you muttered.
He grabbed your arm and turned you to face him roughly. “You’ll treat me with respect, young lady. Got it?” The smell of alcohol immediately hit you from his hot breath that was inches from your face.
He’d never touched you like this. Never once laid a finger on any of you. You two always would argue or have yelling matches, but he never touched you.
Your blood ran cold, and your breath became shaky.
You swallowed and looked up at him, eyes filled with fear. “Dad, let go of me…”
He realized what he had done, seeing the look in your eyes. His eyes softened, and he slowly and softly let go of your arm. “I… God, I’m so sorry.”
You quickly stepped away from him, holding onto your arm. Your heart was pounding, your adrenaline was pumping, and your mind was racing at what had just happened.
Your phone dinged in your pocket before it started ringing.
You pulled it out of your pocket to see Joel’s picture he’d sent you earlier across your screen.
His dimpled smile instantly calms your nerves and washes a warmth over you.
You looked up at your dad and clenched your jaw before flatly saying, “Night, Dad.”
You quickly left the kitchen and ran upstairs to your room to answer the call.
As soon as your door was shut, you answered the call.
“Hey…” You melted against the door, sliding down to your floor, holding your head in your hand.
“Hey darlin’...” he softly said. You could hear the smile plastered on his face through the phone, instantly making you smile.
“Sorry about earlier– how’s your night been?” you asked softly.
“No need to apologize. You had family come up! Nothin’ matters more than that, right?”
You swallowed and sighed softly, closing your eyes and leaning against the door. “Right…”
He noticed the slight shift in your voice. “Everythin’ ok?”
“Yeah, just a long night and an even longer story…” you softly chuckled.
He hummed, “Need to pillow it out?”
You giggled softly. “Pillow it out?”
He chuckled, “You know, yell into a pillow or beat the shit out of one?”
Your giggle grew, and you stood up, walking over to your bed, “‘Pillow it out’… that’s got to go on a t-shirt.”
He chuckled, hearing your giggle, his stomach erupting with butterflies again.
You smiled while lying in bed. “So, screaming into a pillow or hitting one? That helps?”
“It did growing up and has come into use in my later years, I will confess…” he chuckled softly.
You smiled and hummed, “Well tonight I think just hearin’ your voice is doin’ the trick.” You blushed.
There was a pause, then he softly spoke, “Why don’t we move up our date to tomorrow?” he said abruptly.
You chuckled, “Don’t you compete tomorrow?”
“Yeah, and?” he chuckled. “Come cheer for me. Afterwards, you and I can go to the fair and watch the fireworks. It’ll be fun!” There was another small pause. “And if I’m bein’ honest, I don’t think I can wait two more days to take you out or to see you again…”
You smiled and blushed, putting your pillow over your face and squealing into it, muting the phone.
“Hello?” he said after a moment of silence. “Querida?”
You came onto the phone and smiled, trying to act cool. “Sorry, I, uh, dropped the phone.” You bit your lip as you grinned, “Um, yes. Tomorrow it is.”
He chuckled and smiled brightly, “Tomorrow then.” he bit his lip then cleared his throat, “Well then, with that being said, I’m going to go get some sleep. I’ve got an early morning. I’ll come see you before my event, ok?”
You blushed and lightly bit your nail shyly. “Ok…”
He chuckled again and took a deep breath, “Goodnight darlin’...”
You sat up and smiled. “Night, cowboy, sweet dreams.”

Please a The Rookie Tim Bradford x Shy!Adopted!Daughter!Reader? Where it’s her senior year and she’s a cheerleader and she’s doing her senior solo cheer and the stations there (Angela, Wesley, Nyla, James, Wade, Luna, Lucy, Aaron, Celina) and this is their first reaction to her cheer (her cheer can be this one: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTYognBE1/) and they’re cheering her on and you can finish the rest
Family Matters (Platonic)
Summary: Lucy likes to think she knows Tim at least a little, he is dating her best friend after all. However, what she learns is not something she ever expected.
Notes: Sorry to the requester as I think some of the other characters you mentioned come in later in the show, I'm only up to Season 2 Episode 6. Apologies!
Also, I'm from the UK and also very tired so I apologise if anything about cheer is wrong :)
Lucy knew Isabel was hard for Tim, a spot to not bring up. But, something was eating at him today. It wasn't anger, more...dare she say it? Nervous to him today.
He kept looking at his watch. Even Angela seemed to lighten up a bit with their friendly teasing.
Lucy didn't pressure him, though. So, she kept it casual, keeping their conversations how they normally would, when Tim's phone went off. He had put it in the holder, letting the audio book she recorded for him play as they went on patrol.
"It's Angela," Lucy said, picking up the phone, eyes going confused when she read the text - well, she only read the first part, when it was snatched from her grasp.
"Uh-uh," Tim said. His strict TO voice coming through, but also something else. Something like his look this morning.
"Sorry," Lucy said, hands going up.
"Relax, boot," he said, voice softening a little - ever so little, and yet she still picked up on it. See, she did know him at least, "I ain't gonna arrest you."
She snorted, despite herself, "just never seen someone so defensive over a phone before."
"Look, today's not the day, alright?" he said, sharpness coming back. He looked at her, and she saw a silent plead in his eyes.
"Of course, sir," she said. Then again, curiosity and all that --
"Who's Y/N?" it slipped out before she could even help it.
He looked at her again, this time a look she hadn't seen in his eyes since...well, maybe ever:
Life. Love. Hope.
"She's my daughter," he said.
Her eyes widened.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You loved your parents, both of them. You knew what had happened with your mother, your father had told you as gently as he could.
You just hoped that she would be able to make her way out of her addiction. You wanted her to be ok.
She was getting there, taking actual steps to do so.
You would go see her, one day. Your dad had told you that she was ok with that, only wanting to go see her when you were ready.
As for you? You threw yourself into your cheer team.
You had a natural talent for it when younger, and your father had supported you with all he had.
However, as things took a turn, you and him ended up going a bit further into work and hobbies.
You weren't estranged, you still spoke and had parent and child bonding times of watching films. It was just more difficult as you both tried to deal with everything changing.
Tonight was a special performance, a solo cheer that you were doing. You had been doing all you could to practice for it. A chance to prove yourself.
You had been texting your aunt, as you knew your dad didn't like to use his phone much when at work.
She had assured you that herself and some of the others would be there, but that most importantly he would be there.
The other people in your cheer place were nice, friendly and fully got you for you. You didn't talk that much, preferred to be in the background - not that it was a bad thing of course, pieces to a puzzle and all - but they and your coach convinced you to do this solo.
So, you looked at the crowd before the game.
You took a breath, as one of your team mates can up to you, taking you away from the curtain to try help with your nerves.
Your friends were great, but you wanted your family.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucy now knew why Tim had taken a half shift that day. She knew why Angela had texted him. She knew why he was more on edge than usual.
He wanted to make sure he made it.
"Hey, we ain't having you miss this," Angela promised back at the station, putting a hand on Tim's shoulder as he sat on the corner of a desk, arms folded and staring at his watch every few moments.
A hard half-day had been the last thing he wanted. It had wasted time, even if he made people safe.
"We still need to book this guy," he said, looking to the criminal him and Lucy had brought in for...god, he was so distracted today. He'd missed things like this before, but this one he knew was special from what you had said about it when he got home from work.
He stood up, putting his face in his hands. Sure, he didn't like being as vulnerable as this at work, especially in front of rookies, but from the look Nolan gave him when he met his eyes for a minute, right now it didn't matter about work or ranks, it was a family matter.
"I can book him," Nolan even offered.
It was kind, but Tim waved him off, "she'd want to meet all of you, especially you new rookies. Just..." he looked back at them all, "just...she's a bit shy, ok? So don't like, pressure her to talk or anything."
Nolan was dead serious with the shake of his head, "oh, no, I wouldn't dream of it, sir."
Tim had a growing respect for Nolan, and this was just another reason to add to that list.
"Officer Bradford," Sergeant Grey said as he joined them all, "you are aware that we have other officers here and that this precinct isn't just you all, correct?"
"Of course, sir," Tim said, the others also nodding.
Grey nodded, sly smile, "so why are you all acting like we can't get another officer to book this man in, thus letting us all go and see Y/N's cheer?"
"You're coming?" Tim said and Lucy didn't think she could ever see him so happy.
"Course I'm coming," Grey said like it was obvious, "I've seen that girl grow up, Tim. I'm the favourite uncle."
"Wouldn't you be the gran--"
"Something you'd like to add, Officer Nolan?" Grey asked, eyebrow raised as he pretended not to hear that.
Nolan shook his head instantly, then coughing from Nyla hitting him with her elbow, "no sir."
Grey nodded, "just what I thought. Now," he said, looking at the rest of them before nodding to Tim, "lead the way, Officer Bradford."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You took a final breath, your team giving you silent support before you walked onto field, to the centre. Your team hyped you on from the background, all eyes on you.
And so, you began.
You looked at the crowd for a moment, stumbling slightly but managing to catch yourself before anyone noticed.
You looked back to your team, joining in with your chants and pointed subtely.
There they were, old and new faces.
And right in the middle of them? Tim Bradford, your father.
He was clapping, everyone else joining in, both in rhythm and in the chants.
Just like that, it was over.
You all went to the sidelines, and the game went on.
It went by like a flash.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After it, you got changed and made your way out, but was swept up in a hug by your father, "there she is!" he said, his guard completely down, "you were amazing, sweetheart!"
You giggled, hugging him close.
"Y/N," he said, putting hand on your shoulder and gesturing for the others to come over, "I'd like you to meet Lucy Chen, my boot; John Nolan, Nyla's boot - previously Bishop's - and Jackson West, Angela's boot."
Lucy came forward, beaming smile and hand outstretched, eager to meet you. You clasped her hand gently, shaking it.
"Hi! It's so good to meet you! You were amazing out there! Tim, I'll send you some photos later and oh, sorry --" she said, knowing she was rambling.
"It - it's ok," you assured. Her smile grew more, before she stepped back, letting her friends go forward as well.
"I agree with Lucy," the older one said, holding out his hand, "John Nolan, pleasure," he had a parental feeling to him that made you feel safe, that he got that you wanted this to be quick.
"Pleasure, ma'am," Jackson said, hand outstretched, "and I concur, you were incredible. You should be proud."
You nodded, giggling a bit before turning to your aunt, "he always this serious."
Angela shrugged, "I'm trying to tire it out of him. We only did a half day, remember?"
You nodded, "...right."
She came over, hugging you before ruffling your hair - something she'd done since you were young, even if now in your late teens, "I'll get there. 'sides, he's a good guy. All three are."
You nodded, "I know, I know," you said.
"I gotta say," Grey said, "that was some cheer. You've grown a lot, Y/N."
"Thank you gr-uncle Grey," you said, looking to your dad who gave you a wink: nice save.
"Hi, Wesley," a man in a suit said.
You shook his hand, eyes coming to life more as you looked back at your aunt, "ah, so this will be my uncle-in-law."
He went red at that, Angela letting out a laugh and cough at that.
She looked to Tim, "traitor!"
Tim raised his hands, "hey, you know the rules when it comes to family -"
"'No secrets', yeah Bradford, I remember," Angela said, rolling her eyes fondly. You did clock how she held Wesley's hand after that.
You looked to Nyla, giving a smile and approaching with hands together.
"You must be the new TO," you said, "I know you're still getting used to being back from undercover. So, I understand if just a hello is ok for now. But, I hope I can get to know you more?"
Nyla smiled softly, "perceptive, aren't you?" she said in a soft tone, "ever thought about being an officer?"
You shook your head, "I'll leave that to you guys. I think I'd prefer just a simple life, however I can."
Nyla nodded, "understood. But, keep that sharp eye of yours."
You tilted your head, looking at her and then at Nolan, "do you both have kids?"
They nodded, "a son, Henry," Nolan said.
"A daughter. Quite a bit younger than you," Nyla said, "I don't know what she wants to be yet, she's still learning. But, and don't tell anyone else this," she said, leaning down a bit, "I might just start bringing up cheer more after seeing moves like that."
You smiled, nodding, before making a zipping motion to your mouth.
You went back to your dad, who put an arm around your shoulder.
This was your family, with new additions.
They loved you for who you were.
Your dad knew you worried. You always would. But, you also had friends to help ground you, just as he did.
Neither of you were alone.

Here's my fantasy post-btvs/angel world where no one died and the comics never happened
Buffy still fights against the forces of darkness but, since she's not the only slayer anymore, she's allowed to take breaks and not deal with every apocalypse by herself. She also gets paid monthly, along with all the new slayers.
Dawn went to study abroad and is now head of the new and reformed watchers council, where she works with Giles and Andrew delivering missions to the different slayers.
Also Dawn came out as a lesbian during college, and Tara was the first person she told.
Buffy and Spike are together, taking things slow and talking every step of the way (think their relationship in season 10 and 11, that's the only thing i can accept as canon from the mess that were the comics).
Spike works along with Buffy, they patrol together, and he still meets up with Clem for kitten poker (although he can't bear to eat the kittens when he wins)
Faith and Buffy have become really good friends, they're the only ones who know what being a slayer was before when there was only one, and they've bonded over their experiences and now get together quite often for coffee. Faith also works as a slayer so sometimes they go on missions together.
Tara and Willow live in a lovely cottage in the countryside and still help out on the fight whenever needed. Most of the time they sell potions and spells-in-a-bottle to the slayers.
Oz transitioned and now she and her new girlfriend are invited over to Willow and Tara's house every week for dinner and board games.
Anya now runs her own magic shop in L.A. She's going on dates but is mostly enjoying her independence. She's still in touch with the scooby gang but she has also made new friends in L.A.
Season 4 and 5 of Angel never happened so Cordelia, Fred and Wesley are alive and still working for Angel Investigations along with Gunn and Lorne.
Angel got to raise Connor since he was a baby with the help of his team, and Connor grew up surrounded by love
Cordelia and Anya reunite in L.A. and get together for drinks quite often to bitch about life for a few hours.
Harmony is thriving. So is drusilla.
I don't care how Xander is doing.

Okay so out of morbid curiosity Danny decided to read some phantom fanfic (in universe there has got to be some you know it) and he’s talking about this 40 chapter angst fic and he approaches Paulina to compliment her as she’s the author and she’s horrified as he was one of the characters as a minor villain that dies spurring his parents to double their efforts to destroy Phantom and she’s just staring at him as he really liked the speech he made and the way his villain arc almost became a redemption arc before dying.
The last chapter ended on a cliffhanger and he couldn’t wait for the sequel fic she’s planning.
“Anyways, got to go. Bye Paulina!”, he leaves as she’s frozen in place.
Dash is next to her and is equally distraught as he’s wondering if he’s next and if he needs to delete his self insert one shot crack fic?
What’s worse is when he does it as Phantom and talks to Star and Valerie. Kwan nopes out of there and tells Paulina that Phantom knows and reads her fics!
“He was talking to Star and Valerie about it too!”
Oh gawd when the fan base found out and his first book as Phantom isn’t a fic but a book of information to make sure they get their characterization right. He also added a chapter or two for Danny Fenton, allies, and enemies. He makes a note that Box Ghost and Lunch Lady are dating and it drives them crazy wanting to know how he knows that but can’t ask him any questions because comments are disabled.
So they debate approaching Fenton about it but don’t want to at the same time. Then he doesn’t acknowledge anything he did.
He does not acknowledge the fanfictions or fanart or anything and now wondering if they all developed psychosis ?
Months later, the book is updated to include ghost wedding traditions and the note of Box ghost and lunch lady being spouses with a child.
Paulina might just scream and shake him if she doesn’t get answers.
More chapters and changes over time to the book are always met with a reaction, but Phantom and Fenton say nothing about it.
Tucker’s fics suddenly all have one comment from Phantom and it’s just “Lol furry boy has a girlfriend now”. The first time Phantom has every commented and it’s Tucker’s and it’s to tell everyone A) he thinks Tucker is a furry B) that TUCKER has a girlfriend C) that said girlfriend is REAL.
Fenton never comments unless it’s in person and he will walk up to you in front of anyone. It’s terrifying.
Someone was with their parents when he started walking towards them and they locked eyes. THEY FXCKING RAN!!! The fastest they ever did. HECK NO!!!!
Something like this. Phantom never comments on fanart and he only ever likes this one guys, named Spike, depiction of himself.
:3 Phantom gave Star an autograph on the back of a Nasty burger napkin with a little doodle.
She framed it on a wall.
Wesley isn’t spared, none shall talk about it or he’ll cry. Absolute bxstxrd behavior.
Danny is diabolical and off handedly mentions Phantom’s clone sister. They look and yeah the book was updated AFTER HE SAID THAT and they get three chapters about her and she is 12 in appearance.
Danny doesn’t know this until way later because he hadn’t actively updated it in a while, but both Jazz and Jacky (Dani) also added that he’s a prince.
Oh that reminds me. Phantom’s book outlines who should never be shipped with him and out of respect a lot of fics got deleted because he was clear with his boundaries. Of course every fandom has toxic members and they usually get ignored or blocked/ deleted.
Tucker took it seriously and made a program to delete the worse of it with an email detailing why things were deleted or blocked and links to therapists and help hotlines plus other resources because the problem might be due to trauma or ignorance. (Sam and Jazz helped with this part)
They don’t tell Danny about it.

Headcanons for being Angela’s younger sibling as a civilian
Angela Lopez x sibling!reader
warnings:
a/n: i will not be able to handle the finale of this season
prompt: anonymous: “If you write for Angela from the rookie would headcannons for “what being her civilian sibling would be like” be ok?”
angela is hella protective of you and for good reason
yes, you had 4 older brothers—but she was the one who always stood up for you
especially as kids
“i’m fine, mom, i can handle a few kids calling me names” -you
“the hell you will!” -angela
“you better not let mama hear you talk like that” -you
lowkey tho u would threaten kids with her presence
“my sister will beat your ass!” -you
*children running in fear*
she encourages it actually—she thinks its funny
your brothers definitely tease you for her standing up for you
“you’re gonna have to take care of yourself one day, angela isn’t always going to be there for you” -one of the brothers i cant even remember their character traits and only one has a page on fandom wiki
and one day you all grew up and took different paths, but you and angela stayed close
and through her time at the academy and as a cop, she never stopped worrying about you
i’m talking near-hourly update texts
diabla (angela): are you home yet? let me know when you’re home
y/n: i told you i was home an hour ago
diabla: are you still home?
y/n: yes i am still home
honestly when she started out as a cop she saw some pretty messed up stuff and she never stopped imagining you in those situations, it caused her a lot of anxiety
but you started worrying about her too
you might have downloaded a police scanner app to get every single update you could get your hands on
“hey, just calling to see if you’re okay. i heard that there was a call where shots were fired. call me when you can please” -you on the phone
diabla: im working, i’ll call you later. no, i’m not dead.
literal actual “wellness checks” she is. wow.
if you ever had a bad s/o she definitely has threatened them with violence
oh, and YES she will bring tim into it
tim is your bff lowkey and she hates it
“tim told me you threatened to slap a lawyer in the face today” -you
“how the hell did ti—jackson…” -angela
“they said he was a cute lawyer too” -you
“shut up” -angela
whenever there was a crazy incident (like when the CDC had crazy outbreaks) your ass would be sat tf down at that station no questions asked
you guys would have nights in with music and drinks at least once a month
jackson would try to get info on how to get on her good side whenever you crossed paths
“that’s assuming she’s got a good side, kid” -you
this lawyer guy she threatened to hit then started dating was pretty cool actually (for a lawyer)
and soon enough angela was pregnant and you were ecstatic
“i cant believe it im gonna have a nephew!! or a niece. whatever it is, this is gonna be so fun!” -you
“yeah, you think morning sickness and swollen ankles are fun?” -angela
“hey, that’s not my problem” -you
“wow, thanks” -angela
being “fake protective” to angela when it comes to her pregnancy and/or wesley (you liked bullying him)
“puto” -you, whispering in passing
“what did i do?!” -wesley
you were in their weddinggggg
the one where angela got kidnappedddddd
you put an airtag on her after that (not joking)
oh no you were a nervous wreck when this happened and there was nothing you could do. like when they told you what happened to her they thought you were joking. like no way she got kidnapped and brought to another country by a famous female drug lord to steal her baby
and you were a civilian so all you could do was stay home and have a meltdown
and yeah. you got more and more concerned for her safety after that
“you’re going to be a mom! i just want you to be safe. that situation was so…insane! what the hell was that?!” -you
“that was the job. and i like my job. and im going to keep doing my job so no one else will go through anything like that” -angela
yeah you knew you couldn’t argue with her
not soon after she was asking you to babysit
“maybe i should get you some self defense classes. just in case” -angela
“i dont know how i’ve gone this long without them” -you
you enjoyed taking care of the kiddo. even if he had that lopez attitude
“please, jack, will you stop crying?” -you, pleading with a 6 month old
he did not stop
you were not pleased
family dinners!
“maybe y/n should go into law enforcement” -wesley
“that’s not funny, wesley” -angela
“don’t make me use these karate moves i learned on you” -you
fr you did love wesley its just funny to bully your brother in law
angela needed more nights out. date night and sibling nights
so on sibling nights you made it worthwhile
and you started to get close to nyla and lucy and even celina down the line (and of course tim was still your gossip bestie)
ok this is getting long i hope you liked!!!

I Don't Want Easy
This is a combination of an idea I had and this request!
Pairing: Tim Bradford x fem!wife!reader
Summary: When Tim leaves in the middle of the night, you don't know what happened. After you find out you're pregnant a few weeks later, you must decide whether you want to wait for the man who abandoned you or move on.
Warnings: angst, pregnancy (r is pregnant), discussions of divorce, brief mention of fainting and hospitals, mention of cheating, there is a fluffy ending with comfort I promise
Word Count: 2.0k+ words
A/N: I feel like this could have been better and longer, so I may continue it later!

You’re used to being alone when you wake up. Today, though, feels different. The house is silent and there’s no sign of Tim.
Four hours before, Tim moved silently through the shadows of your home to gather his things. His Metro captain texted him an urgent SOS, a signal to go undercover. You know that Tim has been undercover before, but the current case requires a certain disconnection. Tim can’t tell anyone, not even you, his wife, that he is leaving or where he is going. Uttering a single word would jeopardize numerous lives, and despite Tim’s guilt about leaving you, the lingering idea of being the reason for the death of his fellow officers convinces him to stay quiet. Tim kisses your forehead and whispers an apology before he slips out, unsure when, or if, he will see you again.
As you walk through the house later, you notice some of Tim’s essential belongings are gone. There’s no note, no messages, and you feel a deepening sense of dread. Tim has been stressed lately, and you know that he can struggle to deal with his emotions. When you see that Tim’s go bag is gone, you know somehow that Tim is gone, and not just for the day. The sunrise illuminates your home and the absence of your husband… perhaps your new normal.
✯✯✯✯✯
Six weeks later, you’re pacing in your kitchen as Angela ends a phone call.
“Nothing,” she sighs. “No one in the division has heard from him since, uh, since he left you,” she tells you.
“I’m scared,” you admit quietly.
“Hey, no matter what happens, you’re not alone, okay?”
Angela pulls you close before hugging you. The timer on your phone chimes a moment later, and Angela nods before leading you back to the bathroom. A pregnancy test lies in wait, and you clutch Angela’s hand in one of yours as you flip it over.
“It’s positive,” you whisper.
“And?” Angela asks.
“I’m really happy, I think. But I also don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I can’t keep waiting for him, Angela.” “He may not be gone, not from you,” Angela soothes. “He’s disappeared suddenly before.”
“For a day, Angela! It’s been a month and a half. Tim isn’t coming back.”
“Then what do you want to do?”
You chew your bottom lip before asking, “Does Wesley know any good divorce lawyers?”
✯✯✯✯✯
Within a week, you have the papers to file for divorce on grounds of abandonment. Your lawyer is confident that if Tim can’t be found by the LAPD, he won’t contest the divorce. You, however, can’t seem to find the courage to sign the papers and return them. After another sleepless night worrying about Tim and what you’ll do without him, you call your lawyer and tell her you’ve changed your mind.
“Keep the papers, okay?” she says. “And if you change your mind and want to file them later, give me a call.”
✯✯✯✯✯
Four months later, your stomach is proudly showing your baby bump. The divorce papers are still sitting on your table, and you look at them every time you walk past them. Rubbing your hand over your growing bump, you wonder what happened to push Tim away so thoroughly and so suddenly. With your due date growing closer and your future on the line, you know that you need to file the papers, but you can’t.
Across town, Tim and three other Metro officers stumble into the station. They’ve been working nonstop, living in violent environments, and moving around so frequently that they often didn’t know where they were when they tried to sleep.
“There’s one more house to purge,” their captain says. “If we can hit it today, you can all go home and sleep easy.”
Tim sighs before leaving the station yet again. The case is closed by the end of the day, but Tim doesn’t know if he should or can go home. You’ve been alone for so long; Tim doesn’t even know if you are still his wife.
After checking into a nearby hotel, Tim gets comfortable for the first time in too long, but his thoughts keep drifting to you and the emptiness beside him.
You wake with a start as glass shatters. The sun is rising, and you rush into your closet to call 911. They promise that an officer is nearby and will arrive to help you soon. With your hands clutched protectively over your stomach, you wait for the familiar sound of sirens. Angela will insist that you stay with her until your house is secure once again. Your thoughts are ripped from Angela and her protectiveness as someone walks into your bedroom.
“LAPD!” an officer yells from the front door.
The man in your room rushes back out, and you hear the following commotion as he’s placed under arrest. Standing shakily, you try to calm down before you exit the closet.
“Bradford,” an officer says when he sees you.
Tim turns, and his shoulders drop, like he’s never been more relieved. When his eyes drop to your bump, however, the tension returns, and his eyes widen. You watch his fast-changing reaction, and when it meets your fear from the break-in and the stress of being pregnant alone, you feel like you may faint. As you extend an arm toward the wall to steady yourself, one of the other officers moves toward you and yells for the paramedics. When they enter, and push Tim back, he can’t look away from you and the small crowd separating him from you. Your hand isn’t visible from his position, but he looks down at his wedding ring and wonders if you still have one on, too.
“How far along are you?” a kind EMT asks.
“Uh, 17 weeks,” you answer.
Tim calculates quickly and realizes that you got pregnant just before he left. Or after. Because you are safe, though you agree to go to the hospital to get checked out, Tim leaves before you do to return to the station. He won’t admit that your reaction to seeing him again drove him away, not to anyone at the station. Your reaction causes him to think that you don’t want him around, and don’t need him, so Tim will stay gone.
“Tim!” Angela calls when he returns.
“Hey, Lopez. I need your help,” he replies.
“I heard the call over the radio. How much do you know?”
“More than I’m supposed to, I’m sure.”
“What are you going to do about it?” “Move out. Permanently.”
“What? Timothy, are you out of your mind? She needs you! She’s been miserable the past four months!” “Because of me! I made her miserable because I didn’t think I had another choice, and I won’t do it again. I have a choice now.”
“Tim, you have to go home and talk to her.”
“She has other people now, Angela.”
Angela stops quickly, and the look in Tim’s eyes saddens her.
“You don’t think you’re the father?”
“It’s been a long time since I left,” Tim says softly.
“She wouldn’t cheat on you.”
“I know that. But if she knew that I left her, and left me, too…”
“Go home and talk to her,” Angela demands. She knows the truth and knows that Tim needs to hear it. “Trust me for once.”
When you get back from the hospital, everything is a blur. You’re upset because someone broke into your house, emotional because of the pregnancy hormones, and confused about why Tim was here, acting like an ordinary patrol cop after disappearing for months. Everything hurts, inside and out, yet you don’t know how to deal with it without Tim.
Someone knocks on the door, and you assume one of your neighbors saw the police car drop you off and wants to check on you. You are incredibly wrong; you realize when you open the door and see Tim. He freezes with his hand poised to knock again.
The sight of you causes Tim to panic. He suddenly can’t find the words to say, because none of them seem good enough to explain himself and make you see that he still loves you. His sudden silence reads as disinterest, and his lack of comfort causes your emotional, stressed, confused body to react poorly. Your stomach flips and you leave the door open as you rush inside. Tim watches your face change before you run inside, and he doesn’t hesitate to follow after you.
Tim enters the bathroom beside you and gathers your hair in one of his hands as the other presses against your spine.
“It’s okay,” he murmurs. “I got you. I’m not leaving this time.”
Your breaths grow shallow, and Tim pulls you close until you have both calmed down. Once your breaths begin to match his, Tim moves to see your face, and you ask him to take you to the kitchen for water. He agrees and keeps both hands on you as he helps you stand and leads you through your once-shared house. As you prepare a glass of ice water, Tim notices the papers on your table. He reads the names at the top and hates himself for waiting so long to try to talk to you; he should have come straight home and shown you what you mean to him.
“Do you- do you want me to sign these?” Tim asks as he raises the petition.
When you see him holding divorce papers, and offering to sign them because he thinks that you want him to, tears blur your eyes, and your water falls to the floor. Ice cubes and water spill across the kitchen floor, and you sink to your knees in the puddle to gather the broken pieces. It’s symbolic, and your tears multiply as you realize that your life is similarly spilled and broken.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Tim calls as he enters. “Don’t.”
He lowers his hands to help you up, but you don’t move. Tim sits in the water beside you and waits for you to come to him. The moment your head hits his chest, your tears slow. Months without Tim didn’t change anything, you realize; nothing important, because he can still comfort you with a touch and cares about you and your safety.
“What are you doing here?” you ask against his shirt.
Tim sighs before telling you about the case. He doesn’t leave anything out, because you deserve the truth, but he doesn’t complain when you cling to him during his account of the most dangerous moments. He came home, and that’s what matters now, but you have something to explain to him, too.
“I didn’t sign the papers,” you admit. “Couldn’t. When I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t want to do it alone, but I couldn’t imagine doing it with anyone but you. Tim, you could’ve come home the moment you returned.”
“No one would have blamed you for leaving. Anticipating it was better than being blindsided by it.”
“So, what now?” you ask.
Tim kisses your cheek, and you turn to look at him before giving him a proper welcome-home kiss.
“Now,” he says against your lips. He pulls back and continues, “Now, we start where we left off, and I do what I should have done four months ago.”
“What’s that?”
“Not leave. You, both of you, are never going to be alone again. I promise.”
You nod and move your hands over his shoulders to pull yourself closer. Your bump gets in the way, and Tim chuckles before murmuring that he’ll have to get used to that.
“Let’s go,” Tim says before lifting you from the wet floor. “Lopez is probably calling you.”
“Tim. This won’t be easy,” you say. “We both missed a lot.”
“I don’t want easy. I want to be married to you and learn to do it all together, no matter how long that takes. Anything you want, it’s done. You want room, say the word.”
“I don’t want room now.”
“Then let’s go catch up. Want me to order food?”
“That or cook in a wet kitchen.”
“What do you and the baby here want?”
“Daughter,” you interject. Tim hums in question and you smile before explaining, “We’re having a girl.”

Venus, in the Shadows

(Upon an anonymous request, I'm taking time out to write this post. Hope you thoroughly read it!)
The ruler of riches and relationships, Śukrācārya, is deemed the Guru of the Asuras, commonly known as Rāhu and Ketu in the natal birth chart. They're shadow nodes of the moon!
In our D1 chart, Venus goes into a rashi where it's allotted to different padas of mainly three nakshatras. Let's revise them again. Nakshatras are ruled by deities foremost, then their vimshottri planetary rulers are counted. The Rahu ruled ones are Ardra, Swati and Shatabisha which all fall in air signs; the Ketu ones are Ashwini, Magha, Mula and they're all found in fire signs only.
This gives a basic idea that there is a lack of both secure groundedness (earth) and emotional sensitivity (water). Venus in masculine signs derives more assertive passion.
As the nodes are deemed eccentric in social manifestations, Venus will be found exhibiting a shocking display of sexuality. Too bold, too prudish, utterly taboo! Another important thing not to be missed, all's in private!
(can apply to either lover or native who has venus as chart ruler)

Venus found in Rahu nakshatra will render the native with many troubles, and equal amount of rewards. Affinity for abundant creativity and earning wealth, as well as deception in love and a desire to "control the narrative". Limerance is a friend, one which frequently allows room for much needed growth, though at the expense of one's emotional world.
Venus in Ārdrā: ruled by rudra! Blend of diplomacy and intelligence. One craves for knowledge as the hungry pupil they are. Compassionate yet a very bad financial planner and anti-social, critical. e.g Karl Urban, Paul Wesley, Adriana lima [..]
Venus in Swati: ruled by vayu! I find this better as Venus is also in mooltrikon here. One is clever in businesses, prone to optimism, enjoys travelling, independent and values honesty. e.g James Marsden, Lee Jongsuk, Joaquin Phoenix [..]
Venus in Śatabhiṣā: ruled by varuna! Adherence to independency, prosperity, enterprising, sharp memory, good writing skills. Provocative for sure. e.g: Reese Witherspoon, Elle Fanning, Norman Reedus [..]

Venus in Ketu naks is simple; you must reap the pending karma first here. A magnetic pull towards a potential mate is common, though coupled with heartbreak and trouble in commitment. Pistanthrophobia. Anxiety or an appearance of wanting to get out of conversations that are becoming uncomfortable, especially as they relate to intimacy, dating, or a prospective romantic partner.
Venus in Ashwini: deities are the ashvini kumaras! Youthful fervour, highly spiritual, inclination towards healing, Intuitive, adventurous and intelligent. e.g Kanye West, Wanda Sykes, Lee Sunmi [..]
Venus in Māgha: overseen by the pitris! Desire for someone significant or important either in their professional field or social setting. Demanding and entitled to respect. e.g Dylan O'Brien, Daniel Radcliffe, Monica Bellucci [..]
Venus in Mūla: ruled by nirriti! Political awareness, faces adversity head-on, will find abundance waiting for them in foreign lands. e.g Nina Dobrev, Stanley Tucci [..]

can u make a sequel (or maybe even a prequel 😉) to ur tim x male! chen reader fic?

Lucy's brother part 1
Tim Bradford x Male!reader
So finding out that you had slept with your sister's training officer was pretty awkward to say the least but you really liked Tim and talked to them separately to see if there was any possible way you could continue to see him.
They each had valid concerns and neither wanted anyone to think Tim would give Lucy special treatment just because he was dating her brother but after a couple of weeks the two of them decided you and Tim should give this relationship a real shot.
You didn't necessarily keep it a secret but you weren't so open about it either which wasn't hard for Tim since he already preferred keeping his private life private… well, except for his best friend Angela who still found this whole situation quite amusing, most people at the station didn't even know he was gay.
Lucy on the other hand had a much harder time not spilling your relationship to everyone especially Jackson and Nolan.
“Tim seems in a good mood, maybe he'll take it easy on you today,” Jackson laughs as they collect their war bags for their shift.
“Huh? What? I have no idea what you're talking about I wouldn't know why he's in a good mood,” she rambles, avoiding eye contact as she ejects herself from the conversation and hurrying out the door to the patrol cars.
You rarely brought Tim to the apartment, usually spending time at his house to avoid creating any awkward run ins like the time he used your shower after a day at the paintball range and Lucy came home to him walking around in only a towel.
Tonight however Lucy told you she was going to be gone due to plans to go bar hopping with Jackson, Nolan and some of the other rookies they graduated with from the academy and her crashing at Jackson's apartment afterwards.
You took the opportunity to invite Tim over for a date night in, cooking him dinner and watching a movie however the movie was forgotten about half way through when Tim started kissing your neck.
Now you were on top of him making out on the couch, your phone on the kitchen counter where you couldn't hear your it buzzing with texts from Lucy saying how plans changed and Jackson was crashing with you guys instead.
The movie was too loud for you two to hear the front door opening and Lucy turned the light on to the sight of you in Tim’s lap, both of your shirts gone but luckily you were still dressed from the waist down.
“Oh my god,” she says covering her eyes.
“Hey Tim what are you doing here?” Jackson says pretty tipsy, taking him a minute to put the pieces together yet, “woah wait, are Y/N and Tim dating?”
You quickly hop off Tim and you scramble for your shirts, “you can open your eyes Lucy we’re decent.”
“You really couldn't go to your bedroom to do that?” Lucy questions, her words slurred, “now I have to burn the couch.”
“Don't be so dramatic nothing happened,” you sigh, “come on you are both drunk you should drink some water and go to sleep.”
“I can't wait to tell Nolan that you and Tim are dating Y/N, he didn't believe me when I said Tim was totally gay,” Jackson laughs.
After getting Jackson set up on the couch and Lucy in her bed you stand outside your apartment door with Tim saying goodnight to him.
“Sorry our date was a bust,” you apologize.
“It's alright let's just stick to having dates at my place,” he chuckles, “but uh could you talk to Jackson? I don't care if Nolan knows about us but I don't need him going and blabbing my personal business to the whole station.”
“I'll talk to him in the morning,” you smile, “but you know he's gonna tell Angela about this right.”
“Oh great, something else for her to tease me about,” he laughs, kissing you sweetly, “are you still in for the double date with her and Wesley next weekend?”
“Looking forward to it,” you say, kissing him one more time.
Dating your sister's TO was a lot harder to navigate than you thought it would be but you had fallen hard for Tim so you wouldn't change a thing.

The Painting
In the long series of characters I loved for a while only to move on to a new one just as quickly but still wrote about them, James Wesley. Yes, the Kingpin's assistant.
James had warned her very early in their relationship.
On their second date to be honest.
"Y/N, you have to understand that my job takes up some of my time."
He hadn't clearly explained to her what his job consisted of. From all the calls and messages he received, he managed a lot of things that he then reported to his employer, like an assistant or a secretary.
It was impossible to say precisely if he didn't explain it to her because it was boring, complicated or dangerous, if he didn't trust her or if he didn't want her to be in trouble.
In any case, James Wesley was clearly used to compartmentalizing his life, with every moment meticulously planned. There was no reason for it to be any different for his romantic relationship.
It could have been a problem if he wasn't romantic, or at least not in a conventional way.
Each of his attentions, his gifts, appointments, compliments, were perfectly prepared, calculated, and even sometimes with a hidden goal.
"James, it's too much." Y/N murmured as she discovered the gold and diamond necklace he was offering her.
"Nothing is too much for you."
"I really don't deserve all this."
"I object. You don't hold it against me for my many absences, while many people wouldn't have accepted my schedule."
"I know you're very busy."
"Indeed. Besides, I know we had planned to go see your parents next weekend, but it turns out that my employer wants me to deal with an urgent matter, so unfortunately I won't be able to come."
"Oh, James… They'll be disappointed not to see you."
It was false, they both knew it, because most of Y/N's close friends didn't really like the man she had agreed to marry, not understanding her choice at all.
However, he was still a good husband. Despite his cold and calculating demeanor, James really loved her. They had met in a bookstore, while he was doing research for clients, Y/N had helped him, they had talked, and everything had started from there.
Love was the only way to explain their relationship. He could have perfectly well stayed alone, and she brought him nothing in the professional field.
Y/N repeated this to herself as she waited for him for over an hour in the fancy restaurant they had booked several weeks ago to celebrate their three years of marriage.
No doubt she could have called him, quickly resolving the situation by reminding him that he was expected, or by learning that he was unavailable. He was more and more taken up by his employer.
But this was James' idea, he had organized it. So she waited for him. A waiter came to see her several times with a sad sorry smile, if she wanted to order or if she had to wait any longer. After 3 hours, she had taken a simple salad that she had eaten while swallowing her tears.
Y/N had then walked around the streets, not wanting to go back to their empty apartment right away. It was impossible to explain what had pushed her to enter this contemporary art gallery.
The manager of the place, Vanessa, welcomed her gently, ready to help her find the piece made for her.
"It's not for me, it would be for my husband. For our 3 years of marriage."
"Oh, congratulations ! It's an important step in a relationship, a real baptism of fire. Tell me about your husband, what he's like, what he likes."
"James is very cultured, always elegant and calm. A hard worker, very busy, but always attentive when he has the time."
"I see the kind of men." she smiled mischievously. "I met one of them recently, very difficult to read, a controlled passion. I can show you several paintings."
Some works were proposed, large, small, red, yellow, white, but none spoke to Y/N without her being able to explain why. Until her gaze fell on a canvas at the other end of the gallery, which attracted her like a magnet.
A rather large painting, between gray and blue, that Vanessa described as the saddest in the gallery, not really understanding her client's choice, while she had spoken of her marriage in rather positive terms.
But Y/N declared that it was perfect.
Still very busy with his work, James only came home two days after she hung the painting in their living room, and even so, he didn't notice it at all, his attention mainly focused on his phone or his computer, and the rest of the time on her.
He hadn't noticed the date at all, proving that he had completely forgotten their anniversary and the restaurant, kissing her as if everything was fine while simply apologizing for his prolonged absence.
"My employer isn't very available at the moment, I have to be everywhere at once. Believe me, that doesn't really please me."
"I hope he'll offer you a nice vacation soon."
"Ah, that would be wonderful, but he'd be lost without me. He apologizes for asking me so often. He recently found love, he doesn't like the idea of getting between us. He asked me what your favorite flowers were."
"That's nice of him but absolutely not necessary."
She could have told him that the only thing she wanted was for her employer to learn to manage a little on his own, especially if he ruined her dates to go to his in peace.
But since she suspected that it wouldn't change anything, she put on her best smile as she accepted her husband's kisses before he left for a long day of work.
It had been over a week when he stopped in the hallway, his hand on the doorknob.
Y/N didn't look at him, thinking he had simply forgotten something, continuing to chew on her breakfast.
"When did you buy this? " he asked, and she understood that he had finally noticed the painting.
"Oh. A few days ago. Do you like it ?"
"… Where did you buy this ?"
"An art gallery in the neighborhood, I walked past. The color reminds me a bit of your eyes."
James looked at her strangely, before putting his briefcase on the ground, putting his phone in his pocket, to come back to her and hug her.
The gesture was touching, even if she didn't understand it.
Then he apologized for missing their wedding anniversary.
It seemed surprising that he could make the connection between this oversight and a painting. Impossible even.
Except that Vanessa was his boss's new lover. She had told him about this client who had bought the saddest work in his gallery, and the information had been passed on to Wesley for strange reasons, probably to know what to avoid doing to succeed in a relationship. Since his couple was soon to celebrate its third anniversary, James could be considered a good advisor.
"Forgive me, darling. I have no excuse. I had so much to think about, I totally forgot the date. We had a restaurant and… Did you wait for me at the restaurant ?"
"Don't worry, James, I understand."
"No, it's unforgivable. I should never have forgotten such an important day. Why didn't you call me ? I would have come right away."
"I didn't want to disturb you."
If the painting was considered sad, the look he displayed at that moment to look her in the eye was worse.
Maybe he had made it clear that he was busy, but he had always done everything he could to be at home as much as possible. The fragile balance that he had managed to maintain for all these years was however beginning to waver, without him realizing it and without Y/N trying to shake him, accepting her fate.
Because she was convinced that he would choose his job no matter what. There was no point in fighting, he loved her, but he didn't love her enough to change that.
"Y/N… Maybe I'm conscientious and my job has a certain importance, but it must not encroach on our relationship. The time I dedicate to you is just as important, never hesitate to reprimand me if I get lost. There is no way you're going to think that you're not important."
"But…"
"No 'buts'." he cut her off, grabbing her shoulders so she could look him in the eye. "Promise me, if I forget another appointment, make me crawl at your feet to be allowed to go home."
"Be serious."
"I'm always serious, you know that. Now, could you… Can you take that painting down ?"
"Oh. But I like it. It really reminds me of your eyes."
The painting stayed, because it pleased his wife, and because it served as a reminder to James Wesley whenever he left for work. He had hesitated to tell his employer about the incident, but the latter had eventually noticed a tension in his secretary and friend anyway, asking him to speak freely.
Upon learning that he was partly responsible for forgetting such an important birthday, the man had felt ashamed, apologizing to James and having a huge bouquet sent to Y/N, accompanied by a card thanking her for her indulgence and promising her improvements.
The following week, they were able to have a whole weekend together, even if her husband was a little feverish, not used to having nothing to do.
"Workaholic." she teased gently.
"You were warned when you agreed to marry me."
"I'm still happy to have you a little to myself."
"I may be busy, but I remain entirely yours."
Y/N snuggled up to him, enjoying this special moment knowing that James would really try to be there as often as possible, doing his best to prove his love to her, but that he would still be very busy with his mysterious employer.

Angela lopez x reader
Lucy and Nyla try to set up their two best friends
-🖇
hey again! this one’s really long, and i’m not sorry.
setup
Everyone could see it from a mile away, even Sergeant Grey. So the question was, why couldn’t the two of you see it?
I mean, Angela is a detective, for goodness sake!
How could she not see that the two of you have the biggest crushes on each other?
Well, that was Nyla and Lucy’s mission for this week. To get you and Angela to, for one, see your feelings for each other. Because it’s been oncoming since the first day the two of you met. And then for two, they want to get you two together.
Yesterday, Nyla had found Lucy at lunch, and proposed this plan.
And now, I know what you’re thinking. Nyla came to Lucy?
Well, she was tired of the unknown flirting, longing looks, the touching.. it was making her annoyed. You guys were basically dating at this point, but every time Nyla brought it up, Angela denied it.
Let’s begin!
Monday
You rode with Lucy almost everyday, so imagine your surprise when Lucy told you she was going to be riding with mostly Nyla this week.
You kind of just shrugged it off, figuring she might have wanted to broaden her horizons and try out detective work. Which didn’t really make sense, because you thought her heart was set on undercover work.
Little did you know, they were plotting against you and Angela.
You also didn’t mind because that meant you would be with Angela. You two were friends, and hung out every once in a while, but you did enjoy her company and talked to her whenever you could.
Today you and Angela were mostly staying at the station, so you’d talked a bunch.
Nothing you hadn’t already known about her, though.
Eventually her phone starts dinging repeatedly, and you look up to see her scrunched up face, and you knew what that meant. She was frustrated.
“Jeez,” Angela finally gives in and flips the phone over.
You watch her as her frown grows deeper, and her frustration turns into anger. She rolls her eyes, placing her phone on silent and into her bag on the floor.
“Everything okay?” You ask, making her look up you.
Her features and voice soften, “Fine.”
She sits there and begins tapping her foot on the floor, which you pretend not to notice as you focus on the case files in front of you. She lets out a loud sigh that has you dropping the papers and gives her your full attention.
“It’s Wesley,” Angela admits. “Do you like him?”
You try your best not to make a face. You knew Wesley well.
He made his appearance throughout the station due to him being a defense lawyer. He often represents criminals in your interrogation room.
You’re best at interrogating criminals, so most people seek you out to do their interrogations, which is how you know Wesley so well.
But did you like him?
Well that was a whole different story.
He’d taken Angela out a few times, to which you didn’t like. He’d annoyed you now that he went out with her. You couldn’t explain why it bothered you, but it did.
The two of them had broken things off about a week ago, Angela’s doing, but you couldn’t get the reason out of Angela.
“Yeah, yeah, sure,” You raise one shoulder.
“You’re a terrible liar,” Angela pursed her lips. “Tell me the truth.”
“He’s kind of.. uh, an asshole?” You wince thinking of what Angela’s reaction to your opinion would be.
“Hm,” She doesn’t look fazed, which is good. But that could also mean she was upset and was just hiding it. “Well, he’s the one blowing my phone up.”
“I figured as much,” You say.
“He wants to try again.”
There was that feeling again. Deep in your stomach. You wanted this conversation to stop, but you loved listening to Angela talk. You could listen all day.
“What do you want?” You tilt your head slightly.
“I don’t know,” Angela bites the inside of her cheek. “That’s why I’m talking to you. He’s been texting me a lot lately, asking me to go out with him again, but I ended things for a reason.”
“And what reason was that?” You thought you’d at least try, but you already knew her answer.
She hesitates, and you think she might actually tell you, but then she just shook her head.
“Mm,” You clear your throat and put the files away neatly on Nyla’s desk. You reach to grab for your bag, ready to get out for the night, the overwhelming sensation to cry hitting you. “I’m gonna head out.”
“Oh,” Angela parts her lips. “I can walk you out—“
“No,” You clench your jaw, putting your walls back up. “I’ve got it.”
“Well doesn’t Lucy normally drive you—“
“I said I’ve got it.”
Tuesday
Lucy was devastated to find out about the small fight that took place between you and Angela last night.
She found out when she found you with your comfort movie on and a pint of ice cream in hand.
She was able to get what happened out of you easily, and immediately messaged Nyla with the news.
They were hoping yesterday would be enough, but apparently not.
You were relieved to find out you’d be riding with Nyla the next morning in roll call. You were interested in becoming a detective, so it worked out for you.
Only, it wasn’t going so great now that you were cornered by two men.
Nyla had been tied to a chair back further into the room, and you were being cornered close to the top of the stairs.
You called for backup about five minutes ago, and you prayed Lucy or anyone else would hurry to your location because you wouldn’t be able to hold out two men for more than a few minutes.
Next thing you know, Nyla is yelling something that sounds like a, “Watch out!”, and you’re tumbling down the stairs.
Your vision goes blurry and your head is pounding. You feel like throwing up and you have a pain in your ankle.
Thankfully, you’re put out of your misery when you pass out.
You wake up in the hospital, a doctor shining a light in your eyes.
As you thought, Lucy was there by your side when you woke up, which was a relief.
You’d gotten a bad concussion from hitting your head off the floor after tumbling down the steps, as well as a sprained ankle.
Lucy dropped you at home, which is where you spent the rest of your night—alone.
At least you did until Angela came knocking on your door.
“Oh,” You let out a sharp breath when finding the woman at the other end of the door.
“Hey, I heard what happened,” Angela steps into your apartment without even asking, concern written all over her face. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” You say as her hand touches the bruise that formed on the side of your face from the fall.
Her hand is cool on your face, and even though the bruise hurts to the touch, you hold her hand there.
“Does it hurt?” She lightly moves her hand from the side of your face, and softly grips your chin, turning your head so she can see your bruise.
“Keep your hand there,” You dodge her question, grabbing her hand that’s not on your chin, and place it back on the side of your face. “Your hands cold. Feels good.”
Wednesday
You were placed on desk duty for the rest of the week. Just great.
It tampered with Nyla and Lucy’s plan, but it’s nothing they couldn’t handle.
Lucy stayed back today, but kept her distance from you and Angela. The two of you were in the same seats at Monday. Sat across from each other.
You could feel Angela watching over you as the day went by.
Lucy ate lunch with you and asked how Angela was but you did your usual show when someone asked about her.
You looked down, hid your blush, shrugged your shoulders and muttered an “I don’t know.”
Later into the shift, you had gotten up for coffee.
You and Angela stayed back a bit late to finish the case you were on. You were so close, you could feel it.
But that also meant Lucy and Nyla were at home, as well as the rest of the day shift.
They were at home conspiring against the two of you as you make your coffee.
Angela followed you into the break room, and good thing she did, because your ankle decided to give out three seconds later.
Angela speeds to catch you just in time, you falling back into her arms. You swallow nervously, your faces awfully close.
All you could see were her sparkling brown eyes, and her kissable lips.
But you beat yourself down for even thinking about that. So when she leaned in a fraction, you cleared your throat and stood up.
“Sorry about that,” You scratched the back of your neck.
“You should really be more careful,” Angela tries to play it off as if she didn’t just try to kiss you and got rejected.
“I know,” You chuckle awkwardly.
“Was it your ankle?” Angela frowns.
“Yeah, it’s been bothering me,” You shrug. “I should stay off it.”
“Damn right you should,” Angela said sternly. “From now on I’m confining you to Nyla’s desk.”
You let out a breathy laugh, “Fine by me.”
“Okay.. so go sit down,” Angela raises her brows. “You think I’m joking? I’m not. Go sit. I’ll bring you your coffee.”
Smirking, and watching you leave the room, she does just as she says.
Thursday
Today would be an exciting one.
You were with Nyla again, and Lucy was with Angela.
But since Angela forced you on desk duty, you and Nyla would be hanging back at the station.
The fun part is how all Nyla’s been talking about is Angela.
Nyla had somehow found out about your almost kiss with Angela last night, and yet she hadn’t asked about why you’d pulled back, you had a feeling she would soon.
“You know she broke things off with Wesley?” Nyla looked up, smiling at you.
“Yeah. I mean, she was thinking about it,” You try not to get too hung up on the question, trying to figure something out for Nolan, but coming up with nothing due to your mind being on the Lopez woman. “But why?”
“You really want to know?” Nyla leans on the desk, her hands intertwined together on top of the surface.
“Will you actually tell me?” You sit up excitedly.
“It was because of you.”
That caught you off guard. Why would she say something like that?
“That’s not funny,” You start blinking repeatedly.
“I’m not laughing, am I?” Nyla gave you her serious face.
“But why would she do that?” You asked yourself, and ended up with an answer from Nyla.
“Because she likes you.”
You scoff.
“What, me?” You’re taken aback at the seriousness of Nyla’s tone and face. “No. I’m just a patrol officer. And she’s a detective. She could have anyone. And she wants me? Are you sure?”
“Positive. You’re all she talks about.”
“You’re all she talks about,” Lucy looked over to look at Angela who had her thinking face on.
Angela had Lucy driving today, because she felt like sitting back today, rather than dealing with assholes on the road.
“I don’t buy it,” Angela shrugged. “I would know. I mean, I’m a detective.”
“You know, that’s exactly what Nyla and I thought.”
“What— Nyla?” Angela turns her whole body. “She’s in on it?”
“Well, I mean—“
“Are you sure? I’ve liked her since, well, I don’t know..”
“Since your first day training her? Yeah, her too,” Lucy was jittery, excited for their plan to finally come together. Even after having to go to plan D.
“Well, what do you think I should do?” Angela bites her nail nervously. “Should I ask her out?”
“Of course you should!” Lucy is basically bouncing in her seat, she can only imagine how you feel.
“Tonight?”
“Yes!” But then Lucy remembers tonight in the night your show comes on, and you almost never miss it. “Oh, no, wait, no.. here’s the thing. Thursdays are not so good, you see.”
“Her show?”
Lucy is surprised by her words, but it just points out the obvious fact that the two of you like each other.
“Yeah, yeah, how did you know that?” Lucy shakes her head.
“It’s all she talks about on Fridays, so I have no choice but to assume it comes on on Thursday nights.”
“You know what you should do? Bring her takeout! Yes, I’m going out with a friend tonight, so it works out perfectly,” Lucy beams. “You know her favorite place?”
“Of course,” Angela rolls her eyes. “I know it by heart.”
“So it’s a date.”
“Whatever,” She shrugs it off, but is secretly planning out her outfit.
A knock at the door later that night has you bouncing on your toes.
Lucy had hinted at how her conversation went with Angela earlier in the day, but wouldn’t tell you how it went.
When you open your door there she is, looking gorgeous as always, your favorite takeout in her hand.
You smile widely, trying your best not to check her out, but fail.
“You gonna invite me in, or what? Your shows coming back on,” She jerks her head in the direction of you and Lucy’s huge TV.
“Oh, come in,” She shreds off her coat, placing it on the hanger by the door.
She was wearing a black tank, which you weren’t complaining about, as well as jeans that complimented her perfectly.
When she catches you staring, you fake cough, and hide your face in the fridge, grabbing the both of you some water.
“How was desk duty?”
“As well as it should be,” You shrugged.
“Speaking of, you should be sitting,” She pushes you towards the couch, a smile across her face. “Go sit. I’ll bring you some.”
You talk as you eat, and learn that Angela doesn’t know anything about this show, besides what you’ve told her. So you pause the show, and you spend the next hour and a half explaining the show.
At this point, she isn’t even paying attention to what you’re saying, she’s just watching your mouth and the column of your throat move as you talk.
“Angelaaa you aren’t even listening. How are you going to understand what’s happening?”
“I am listening, and it’s very interesting,” Angela tries to lie her way out.
“What did I just say?”
“I don’t know.”
“Then what do you know?” You squint at her.
“That I want to kiss you.”
You hadn’t realized that there was only about an inch or two between your faces.
This time, when Angela leans in, you don’t stop her. You let her grip the sides of your neck, her thumbs rubbing across your neck.
You wrap your arm around her neck, moving yourself closer, all but on her lap. You begin running your hands through her hair.
You pull slightly, making the woman groan, which gives you access to her mouth.
It would have gone farther, had Lucy and Nyla not chosen that second to walk in.
“Oh! I guess our plan worked,” Lucy turns her head as you scramble off Angela.
“I guess it did,” Nyla smiled. “We’ve got moves.”
“Yeah, yeah we do,” Lucy nodded, sticking her fist out for Nyla, who bumps it.

Movies I've been meaning to see for ages and now, on the plane, I finally have:
Lisa Frankenstein
Birds of Prey
Scott Pilgrim
Disenchanted
V for Vendetta
Blade
I have opinions on all of them. (Yes this was all the same flight. Thirteen hours.)
(I've slept a total of maybe 4 hours in the past uhhhh 46? Gonna pass out as soon as I can lol.)
Lisa Frankenstein is a high-budget Wattpad fic and I mean that in the best way possible. The main characters are generally ludicrous overall and it actually works! The "slutty cheerleader" stepsister is actually the sweetest character in the movie and I adore her. Also, Cole Sprouse is clearly having SO much fun.
Birds of Prey: I was spoiled for a LOT of this movie. I didn't realize how late in the game they came together, though, and while people had talked about Ewan really selling Sionis as this blatantly queer villain trope, I still was not spoiled for That Much. Like. It didn't come across as a homophobic stereotype (to me) but I'm BAFFLED as to how.
Most likely, it's because we see three former relationships or signs of attraction, and all three are at BEST messy (f/f, Montoya and Ellen Yee), but generally just really bad, in the abusive f/m (Joker/Harley) or toxic m/m (see everything about Sionis, but also idk what he and Zsasz were up to).
Scott Pilgrim: The diegesis! I expected this to be something in the vein of Walter Mitty, where the superhero segments are all just extended daydreams that are 100% not actually happening. I thought the space-time weirdness was just the new show. But no! People have comic book and video game logic! And they're aware of it! People literally die and leave behind coins! Insane!
Also, wow, you(?) all really weren't joking when you said that 22yo Scott dating a 17yo is more Pathetic and Doormat than predatory creep.
Also I did not expect the mind control.
And I knew there'd be some big names but I was still blindsided by Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick in the opening credits.
Disenchanted: love the plot concept! I adore some enforced tropes and family bonding! However, some of the "heavy" lines fell flat due to the writing, and the songs overall just felt worse, both in execution (Amy and Idina both sound strained when reaching for their upper registers) and just in general writing quality.
V for Vendetta: Really cool overall, great plot and messaging, but I occasionally had trouble keeping track of the Various White Men. V's accent seemed to slip to American a few times? I kept trying to figure out what year it supposedly was, and also which characters I saw being claimed as "V before he transitioned" on Tumblr.
Blade: I love the way Wesley Snipes talks in this. IDK why.
Pleasantly surprised that there was like... way less sexism than I'd expect from a 90s action flick. However, I was blindsided by the vaguely incestuous energy that was brought in every time Blade talks to his vampire mom.
