why are women worse at driving compared to men?
They aren't.
Most Recent Statistics
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a USA-based "independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization" about "motor vehicle crashes" [1]:
73% of motor vehicle crash deaths were of men/boys in 2022
In fact, men have outnumbered women in crash fatalities for every year since 1975 (when data started being collected)
Male crash fatalities were significantly more likely to be intoxicated than female fatalities
Male crash fatalities were also significantly more likely have been speeding than female fatalities
More Data
In a 2023 report, the World Health Organization [2] looked at crash data worldwide, and found men are 3 times more likely than women to be killed in a car crash.
A 2021 study by researchers in England [3] found "men pose higher per-km risk to others than women". To be clear, this means that even after adjusting for amount of distance driven, men are more dangerous drivers than women.
A 2024 report by the French government [4] found 78% of road fatalities were male and 75% of those seriously injured were male
This 2023 study by researchers in Spain [5] found "the results point to Spanish women paying closer attention to traffic regulations, behaving more carefully." (Where "traffic regulations" refers to things like speeding, seat belt use, phone use, "overtaking offenses", etc.)
This Turkish study [6] found that men self-reported less driving safety behaviors than women.
This Texas (USA) study [7] also found men self-reported less driving safety behaviors than women. (And despite the fact that "males reported more behaviors than females that would put them at higher risk of collision ... men have more confidence in their driving skills than women." We should note here, that this is clearly false confidence.)
This study [8] interviewed young drivers in nine European countries and found "the main difference between [young male and female drivers] is not strictly related to judgment of the perceived risk probability but rather to the level of concern experienced about the consequences of the risk." In other words, young men (the highest risk group) are aware of the risks to themselves and others ... they just don't care.
This study of data from 32 countries in "8 cultural cluster" [9] found "men [value] crash risk behaviors more than women do in all cultural clusters observed". They also found "the greater acceptance of risky behavior by males is observed in all cultures."
It's also important to note that these higher fatality rates for men are in spite of the fact that car safety standards are designed and tested only on a male-standard [10, 11]. Women are, in fact, at higher risk than men of injury and death when they are in a crash. This makes the fact that men still outnumber women in crash fatalities all the more significant.
Stereotype Threat
I talk about stereotype in a few posts, including this post and this post.
So, we should also note the effect of the (false) "women are bad drivers" stereotype.
This study [12] found that inducing a stereotype threat "reduced [female driver's] state driving self-efficacy, and further increased mistakes in driving tasks" as compared to a control group.
This study [13] found that "women under stereotype threat ... doubled the number of mistakes" as compared to a control group. They also found the women believed they drove poorly in all conditions.
This study [14] found the same using a driving simulator.
This study [15] found "significant differences in how female drivers were evaluated ... in groups where stereotypes were emphasized or countered ... [but not] in the group where stereotypes were neutralized."
So, not only are women already better drivers than men, we would be even better if society stopped perpetuating this stereotype.

Some thoughts on Krittka Nakshatra (originally posted on substack and twitter)
Krittika at its best really understands how to both simultaneously enjoy and appreciate things while also being able to give critical commentary and feedback, and I think a lot of people have a hard time wrapping their heads around this level of multifaceted behavior. In a world where black-and-white, all-or-nothing thinking is common and encouraged, people often forget that two things can be true at once. Krittika natives have the creativity and flexibility to understand and implement this “two truths at once” concept into their everyday lives. People think Krittika natives are being insolent or abrasive when the native is just simply speaking on what they’ve learned, gathered, observed and experienced and being straightforward about it…taking the data they’ve accumulated and turning it into something that’s easy to digest. Absolute truths rarely exist, and Krittika exposes the complexities we experience on both a collective and individual level.
Krittika’s goal isn’t to trash things necessarily. I think the goal Krittika natives have is to help themselves and others see things in a different, profound way. Offering refreshing perspectives on many different aspects of life is something the natives take pride in. The Martian influence of the Aries portion of the nakshatra makes one very analytical and strategic. Observing and learning through action and expeirnce, the Aries side of this nakshatra knows how to take things back to the drawing board. They understand that trial and error are some of the best teachers, and that there is always room for change. The Venusian influence of the Taurus portion gives the native discernment and good taste. The discriminatory nature of Venus leaves little to no room for indifference, especially when it comes to connections, arts, and culture. Venus appreciates excellence, and Krittika will accept nothing less. Krittika serves as the bridge between the sun’s (Identity) and the moon’s (Mind) exaltation points, giving both signs vast intelligence that manifests slightly different, but one thing remains the same: The sharp, quick witted nature of the nakshatra that seeks improvement within themsleves and the world around them. In today’s society, echo chambers are growing increasingly common, creating less nuance and mental flexibility, and more groupthink. From arts to politics, the effects of all-or-nothing thinking seems almost inescapable. Mediocrity is the acceptable normal, and Krittika is on a mission to change that.
When not channeled appropriately, Krittika natives can be high strung individuals, hypercritical of both themselves and others while forgetting to appreciate the beauty of life, and the beauty within themsleves. Some constantly feel the need to “shake the table” or say what they believe others are afraid to say, not fully realizing the implications of making ego driven “critiques.” Some “critiques” can be so ego driven, that they are dowright incorrect, mean or hateful in nature. They can be prone to tunnel vision and extreme anger, especially when they feel like their way is the only way. Krittikas can be demanding, exhibiting dictator-like control over their communities which can lead to a “walking on eggshells” feeling for the people around the native. It is imperative that Krittikas don’t lose sight on what’s important: not crossing the thin line between enlightening analysis, and downright negativity.
Krittika natives experience a lot of pleasure from giving critique as well, because they believe that there’s something really cool about being able to get others to think in ways they may not have before, and introduce various perspectives on any given subject. Krittika’s shakti (power) is to purify or burn away impurities, and sharing thier critical thoughts and assessments is one of the best ways to do it in today’s world. If we as a collective are going to consume things, Krittikas believe we can and should evaluate and question what we consume. Things should be questioned more. “Impurities” should be pointed out. The status quo should be challenged in all aspects of life.
Krittika isn’t scared to point out things that are flawed and it infuriates some individuals that Krittika natives don’t just sit and “go with the flow” all the time. Krittika has a burning lust for awareness of the world we live in. Krittika knows that sometimes there will be conflict, they’ll ruffle a few feathers and invoke certain emotions that make others feel uncomfortable, but when done tactfully that has the power to change the world (however big or small you consider your world to be).

Working on a theory about the origins of the Chaos Gods specifically in Warhammer 40k.
Slaanesh was born from the old aeldari empire; that’s a given. So you can think of Slaanesh as being uniquely aeldari, even if Slaanesh is everyone’s problem now.
Now old, old lore states that the other three Chaos Gods are born from humanity, but this has widely been disregarded and abandoned because it’s clearly a cop-out. The only specific piece of data from this bit of lore is that Nurgle was born from humans during the Black Plague.
I’m actually not 100% opposed to this. I like the idea that Nurgle is uniquely related to humans the same way Slaanesh is related to eldar. Humans, being a naturally short lived race, would produce a Chaos God of death and decay reflecting their existential fears about entropy and the nature of time.
This establishes a pattern in 40k; every species with a major warp signature produces a Chaos God, who will carry on inherent traits of their creator species long after that species has been driven to extinction. Ergo, Tzeentch and Khorne were produced by two other, far more ancient alien cultures.
The only hints we can get about these extinct species come from their Chaos Gods’ Greater Daemons. As the Chaos Gods have no real physical form, their Greater Daemons are the most direct manifestations of their power we can experience, and therefore the only way to see any of their creator species traits. In the same way we can extrapolate an eldar from a Keeper of Secrets and a human from a Great Unclean One, we should be able to extrapolate… something from a Changer of Ways and a Bloodthirster.
This actually leads me to the tzaangor.

The tzaangor’s presence in 40k is a leftover; they’re here because they’re in Warhammer Fantasy, and we need to flesh out Tzeentch’s armies, so in they go. Their explanation makes sense in Fantasy - they’re just another type of beastman. But beastmen aren’t really a thing in 40k, or at least they haven’t been for a few editions.
So that gets me thinking about the tzaangor, their similarities to Changers of Ways, and Tzeentch. I don’t think tzaangor in 40k are just some random mutants; I think they’re primitive leftovers of whatever species made Tzeentch. The similarities between the tzaangor and Changer of Ways are too obvious. (Like yes, duh; the tzaangor are derived from the Changers, but bear with me here.)
My theory is that whatever this species was, they were pioneers of the Warp itself. They harnessed it in a way not even the Old Ones had during the War in Heaven. They may even have been the creators of Warp travel, or something like it. They achieved a transcendental, almost godlike amount of power from harnessing the energy of the empyrean.
And then you know how the story goes; more power than mortal beings are meant to know blah blah blah, absolute knowledge is absolute power and absolute power corrupts absolutely yadda yadda yadda, and then the next thing you know Tzeentch has been born. And Tzeentch keeps the leftovers of his creator race around for one of a hundred different reasons; anything can be justified with Tzeentch by it being part of one of his master plans or split personalities.
What’s left now of the tzaangor are Chaos-ridden mutants hustled around by the new power in the universe; humans. They’re still surprisingly intelligent, but comparatively primitive next to their species in its prime. I like to imagine that since the species was so psychically gifted, Tzeentch’s birth wiped their intellects in an instant, like Slaanesh and the Fall of the Eldar. Just a lethal psychic shockwave that decimated billions, Watchmen squid style. It’s taken millennia for the tzaangor to redevelop their current level of intellect, and they live in fear with the constant knowledge that Tzeentch can take it away again at any time.
Now as for Khorne! …I got nothing. I think, by his nature as the god of bloodshed and murder, Khorne completely wiped out his progenitor species. He did not quit halfway through like the other Chaos Gods. The only thing I can assume about them is that, as Khorne is the oldest Chaos God, they were ancient. Maybe even older than the Old Ones and Necrons. If the War in Heaven wasn’t enough to create Khorne, then I’d like to know what was. Like, this was the Cain species; the first species to really get into warfare and unrestrained violence. They might not even have known the Warp existed until Khorne came screaming out of it. And that species is remembered now as the ground floor of the Skull Throne.
Anyway, that’s that screed scooped out of my brain.
