Our trip from a Canadian strip club via US neo-Nazis, South Africa to Rhodesia
David Hughes in the 1980s… This all started, three blogs ago, as a piece about David Hughes, who worked as a doorman/cashier/DJ at the Le Strip club in Toronto from 1982 to 1994. It then began to divert via undercover work for the CSIS (the Canadian Security Intelligence Service), neo-Nazis, a massive counterfeiting scheme, planned terrorism in the 1980s, a far right Christian Identity…

Anti-war protest held in Halifax after world’s largest aircraft carrier docks
It’s been two days since the world’s largest aircraft carrier and some NATO allies arrived in Halifax. While their presence has sparked a lot of curiosity, some aren’t happy the warships are here, including the members of Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace.
While their numbers were small, the members were determined to get their voices out.
“There’s a narrative that this is a wonderful thing, but we have a history of the Halifax explosion and that was during a time of war and related to war,” said organizer Katherine Winkler.
Standing alongside the boardwalk with their posts and white poppies, the group protested the aircraft carrier and the seven warships that arrived in the Halifax Harbour on Friday.
The group says the arrival of these ships negatively impact the environment. They also believe the money is better spent helping with food and housing insecurity, adding that decreasing the carbon footprint should be more of a priority.
“If we are at all sincere about meeting any green targets, we have to consider that the Department of National Defense’s carbon footprint is not measured,” said Winkler.
The aircraft carrier and warships are training in different missions, working closely with allies and partners.
Carrier Strike Darryl Trent says training further solidifies Canada’s partnership with its NATO allies.
“Whether you look at NORAD or NATO, that is a tight bond that we have, and that gives strength to the world on what we’re doing and it legitimizes what we’re here to do,” he said. “As you look around, the capabilities that these platforms have that we can share with our partners is critical in our success.”
The last time an American aircraft carrier visited Halifax was in June 2017.

'La La Land,' 'Stranger Things' and 'Atlanta' sweep 2017 PGA Awards
“La La Land” is easily sweeping up all the awards this year, but Netflix’s “Stranger Things” jumped in on the action along with “Atlanta” for the 28th annual Producers Guild Awards (PGA).
The musical comedy-drama went up against “Arrival,” “Deadpool,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Hidden Figures,” “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea,” and “Moonlight,” but was able to come out the winner which was presented by Dustin Hoffman.
The guild recognized the candy-colored musical with its Darryl F. Zanuck Award for theatrical motion picture production Saturday, a prize that often precedes the best picture Academy Award. (Last year was an exception, when “The Big Short” won the guild award, while “Spotlight” got the Oscar.) The nominees for the guild’s top film prize echo Oscars’ best picture nominees this year, with the exception of “Deadpool,” which made the cut with producers but not the film academy.
But the guild’s celebration at the Beverly Hilton Hotel of the year’s outstanding film and television productions had a decidedly political tone, as President Donald Trump’s ban on refugees and visitors from several Muslim countries triggered protests in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle and other cities.
“Our America is big, it is free, and it is open to dreamers of all races, all countries, all religions,” singer John Legend said as he introduced “La La Land” at Saturday’s untelevised ceremony. “Our vision of America is directly antithetical to that of President Trump. I want to specifically, tonight, reject his vision and affirm America has to be better than that.”
Ezra Edelman, producer and director of “O.J.: Made in America,” which claimed the guild’s documentary prize, echoed Legend’s sentiments.
“Please keep telling stories that are about our humanity,” he said.
Other winners Saturday included “Zootopia” for animated feature, “Atlanta” for episodic television comedy and “Stranger Things” for episodic TV drama.
Presenters included Justin Timberlake, Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson, Nicole Kidman, Jeff Bridges, Kerry Washington, Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese. Veteran producers James L. Brooks, Tom Rothman and Irwin Winkler received special awards.
Dustin Hoffman presented the night’s top prize. As producer Marc Platt accepted for “La La Land,” he said, “The power of cinema cannot be denied and has no borders … We must believe love can change our lives, much as it can change the world.”

2017 PGA Awards Winners: ‘La La Land’ Keeps Going Strong, ‘Stranger Things’ Gets Some Love
With the Academy Awards less than a month away, we’re in the heart of awards season. The nominations for the Oscars were just announced last week, but the various guilds are already handing out their awards leading up to Hollywood’s big night. Tonight will see the announcement of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, but before that, we already have the winners of this year’s Producers Guild of America Awards. The 2017 PGA award winners were announced this past Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, honoring producers both in motion pictures and television. It should come as no surprise that La La Land came out on top with the The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, continuing its march to likely win many if not all of the 14 Oscars it was nominated for. But where did the rest of the awards fall? Which animated film came out on top? Which TV series? Find out all the 2017 PGA awards winners after the jump. La La Land has the best chance of winning Best Picture, and even moreso after taking home the PGA award against fellow nominees Arrival, Deadpool, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. All of those movies, except Deadpool, are also nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, so the race will be pretty much the same, and the result seems to be a foregone conclusion unless Moonlight pulls out an upset. Check out the rest of the 2017 PGA award winners right here: The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures: La La Land Producers: Fred Berger, Jordan Horowitz, Marc Platt The Award for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures: Zootopia Producer: Clark Spencer The Award for Outstanding Producer of Documentary Theatrical Motion Pictures: O.J.: Made in America Producers: Ezra Edelman, Caroline Waterlow The David L. Wolper Award for Outstanding Producer of Long-Form Television: The People vs O.J.
