read a couple fics in which anakin marries padme then finds out that jedi don't forbid relationships and he's kind of a bitch in them
and author is like 'omg anakin didn't trust obi-wan enough to tell him' and obi-wan is all sad and disappointed in anakin and i just wanna say this
we all remember chancellor palpatine's role in anakin's life, right???
like
found this absolute gem (derogatory) in the wookieepedia
Tumblr media
anakin's twelve in this.
twelve.
i mean-
palpatine has been filling anakin's ears since he was nine.
i think that he says something that anakin wants to hear or agrees with - and then twists it to something else. and he does this for thirteen years straight.
did something wrong? didn't tell kenobi because you're worried he'll scold you? don't worry, child, I'll never scold you for anything. you can come to me whenever you want, tell me whatever you want.
feeling angry? the jedi say to let go? well, yes, you're young, it can be hard to let go of feelings this quick. it's not wrong if it takes you a few days - a few weeks - a few years to let go.
kenobi went on a mission and didn't tell you? i think he should've. well yes, the council told him not to, but if he had told you, how would the council have known? i think he didn't tell you because he didn't want to tell you.
you think he trusts you? you think they all trust you?
they don't.
and if they don't trust you, should you trust them?
let me give you an example.
suppose you're going to the gym everyday with your friend A. you're eating healthy, and all that jazz. it's been two weeks and your friend B drags you to the mall. she wants you both to eat out.
i'm going to the gym, you tell B. i can't eat out.
well, you haven't been eating out for two days, right? B smiles. what's one cheat day?
she's right, you think. i've been eating healthy for two weeks - what's one day?
and then it happens again four days later. then again. then again.
and suddenly you realise that you're eating out four days a week and your meal plan's gone to hell.
because not eating out takes actual effort - you need to control yourself. and nothing's wrong with losing that control once or twice. but when there's a person right there, nudging you in the other way, making some pretty valid points, it's easier to give in and listen to them.
[you can't say that anakin shouldn't have listened to palpatine, he should have controlled himself nonetheless. i'd like to reiterate that he was nine.]
i think that even when he found out that palpatine was sidious, anakin didn't realise exactly how much he had been manipulated by him. he still genuinely thought that most of the "friendly advice" that palpatine had given him had been exactly that, friendly advice. he listens to palpatine because he's been doing that for the past thirteen years. of course the chancellor knows best.
and after mustafar, when palpatine tells him that he killed padme in his rage - he thinks himself too far gone. he regrets ever turning, but who is he supposed to go back to? obi-wan? his brother the man he just tried to kill? he's done so many heinous things. he can't be redeemed.
and in any case, he doesn't deserve redemption.
Tumblr media
i think anakin realises the extent of palpatine's manipulation when he tries to turn luke in return of the jedi.
when palpatine tells luke, replace your father. take your place beside me.
that's when anakin realises just how long he's been manipulated by this man - like how he is trying to manipulate luke. when he realises that everything he's done has been on the whims of the chancellor, sees that he is redeemable. when he finally finds someone to go back to - in his son and in his daughter.
Tumblr media
and the jedi returns to the light.

REFLECTIONS FROM A BACTA TANK -- A BRIEF RESPITE FROM PAIN FOR A SITH LORD.
PIC INFO: Mega spotlight on concept art of Darth Vader without life support suit, in his Bacta tank on Mustafar, artwork by London, UK-based concept deigner/ sculptor, Luke Fisher, from "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016). Lucasfilm Ltd.
"He’s really a burns victim, and it’s not going to be fun for him when he’s not in the suit – he’s going to be uncomfortable. I love the idea of showing that he’s vulnerable as well. Just seeing those scars and realising that he’s… an amputee…it just [reminds] you of that [trauma] before he does all his stuff, it makes you torn."

Sith Names
Today, I'm delving into the dark side and explore the fascinating meanings behind Sith names. These names are rarely arbitrary; they often reflect the very essence of the Sith who bear them, hinting at their nature, ambitions, and ultimate fate.
Tumblr media
Let's start with the architect of the Rule of Two: Darth Bane. The word "bane" itself means "a cause of great distress or annoyance." And indeed, Bane was a bane to the Jedi Order, setting the stage for their eventual downfall. His Rule of Two, a radical shift in Sith philosophy, ensured that the Sith would survive, adapt, and ultimately thrive in the shadows. He was a force of destruction, a harbinger of change, and a constant, gnawing threat to the light. The name "Bane" perfectly encapsulates his role as the catalyst for the Sith's resurgence.
Tumblr media
Next, we encounter Darth Tenebrous. "Tenebrous" means "dark, shadowy, or obscure." This name perfectly suits a Sith who operated in the shadows, whose plans were complex and shrouded in mystery. Tenebrous was known for his scientific pursuits, his obsession with manipulating midi-chlorians, and his long-term schemes. He was a master of the unseen, a manipulator of the very fabric of life, and his name reflects his preference for operating in the darkness, away from prying eyes.
Tumblr media
Then there's Darth Plagueis. His name derives from "plague," which signifies a contagious disease that causes widespread suffering. Plagueis was obsessed with immortality, with conquering death itself. He sought to manipulate life and death, to control the very essence of existence. Like a plague, his influence spread, subtly corrupting the galaxy and paving the way for his apprentice's rise to power. His name is a chilling reminder of the destructive nature of his ambitions, his ability to spread corruption, and the lingering effects of his actions.
Tumblr media
Darth Sidious, also known as Emperor Palpatine, bears a name derived from "insidious," meaning "proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with harmful effects." This perfectly captures his manipulative nature. He was a master of deception, a puppet master who orchestrated the Clone Wars, corrupted the Republic, and seized control of the galaxy. His rise to power was a slow, calculated process, a gradual erosion of trust and stability. Like an insidious poison, he infiltrated the highest levels of power, corrupting from within and leaving devastation in his wake.
Tumblr media
Another dark figure that stalked the galaxy, a figure of pure, unbridled aggression was Darth Maul.
The word "maul" means "to wound by scratching and tearing," or "to handle roughly." This definition perfectly encapsulates Darth Maul's fighting style and his role within Sidious's grand scheme. He was a weapon, a tool, a physical manifestation of the Sith's destructive power. Unlike his master, Sidious, Maul was not a master of subtle manipulation or intricate planning. He was a force of raw, visceral violence, a relentless predator who relied on his physical prowess and ferocity.
His double-bladed lightsaber, his acrobatic fighting style, and his savage demeanor all reflected the meaning of his name. He was designed to inflict pain, to tear through his enemies, and to leave a trail of destruction in his wake. While other Sith, like Sidious or Plagueis, focused on long-term schemes and political machinations, Maul was the embodiment of immediate, brutal action.
He was, in many ways, a pawn, a tool to be wielded by his master. He was not privy to the full extent of Sidious's plans, nor was he meant to be. His purpose was to act, to execute, to destroy. He was the dark side's blunt instrument, a force unleashed upon the galaxy to pave the way for Sidious's rise to power.
The very physicality of the word "maul" highlights the difference between him and other Sith. He was not a strategist, a manipulator, or a philosopher. He was a warrior, a killer, a living weapon. His name, like his actions, was a testament to the raw, untamed power of the dark side, a power that could be unleashed in a moment of savage fury.
Tumblr media
Darth Tyranus, also known as Count Dooku, takes his name from "tyranny" or "tyrant." These terms refer to cruel and oppressive rule, absolute power, and the suppression of dissent. Dooku, a former Jedi Master, embraced the dark side and became a figure of authority and fear. He was a skilled warrior, a charismatic leader, and a ruthless strategist. His name reflects his desire for control, his willingness to impose his will upon others, and his role as a figure of tyranny in the Clone Wars.
Tumblr media
Finally, we have Darth Vader. His name, derived from the Dutch word "vader," meaning "father," carries a profound and tragic irony. He is the father of Luke and Leia Skywalker, a fact that becomes a central point of conflict and redemption in his story. His name serves as a constant reminder of the life he lost, the family he betrayed, and the potential for good that still flickered within him. The duality of his name, the contrast between his dark persona and his paternal role, adds a layer of complexity to his character, making him one of the most iconic and compelling figures in the Star Wars saga.
These Sith names are more than just labels; they are reflections of their bearers' destinies, their ambitions, and their inherent natures. They are whispers of the dark side, echoes of the power that corrupts and consumes.

The Dark is generous, and it is patient.
Its first talent is hiding. Our true face lies in the darkness beneath our skin. Our true heart drowns in even deeper shadows. But what it hides from us the most is not our secret truths, what it is hiding is the truth of others.
Tumblr media
The Dark protects us from what we are afraid to know.
Tumblr media
It protects us from the horrors we are capabe of.
Tumblr media
Its second talent is the ilusion of comfort, the peace of sweet dreams in the night's embrace, the beauty imagination gifts to that which would disgusts us in the light of day.
Its third talent is Light itself. Just as the days are counted by the night that divides them, and the stars by the endless blackness they move around in, the Dark embraces the Light and makes it stand out from its very core.
With every victory of the Light, the winner is the Dark.
All lights vanish, leaving nothing but darkness behind. All things die, all things end. With time, even stars burn out. Everything you have, everything you will achieve, every thriumph, every love. All that's yours, everyone you love, will die one die. You can't stop their deaths any more than you can stop the sun from setting. You will lose them, or perhaps you will be fortunate where they won't be, and they will lose you instead.
The people you love don't, and will not ever, belong to you. They belong to the universe, and the universe will take them.
It's that simple. It's that complex. And it's written in the very nature of the universe. In a universe where even stars burn out, no matter how good you are, all stories end the same way.
Tumblr media
The Dark is generous, and it is patient.
The darkness is what sows the seeds of cruelty in justice, what leaks disdain into compassion, what poisons love with grains of doubt.
It takes your attachments and poisons them with the fear of the unstoppable, with the fear of losing everything you hold dear. It sows the seeds of anger, the shadows of greed.
The Dark can be patient because the smallest raindrop will make those seeds sprout.
And the rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, because the Dark is the ground they grow in and the clouds in the skies, and it awaits behind the stars that give them light.
With time, even stars burn out.
The Dark is the predator in the middle of a hunt, stalking you with eerie patience. You may run, you may hide, but it won't run after you or search for you; it doesn't have to, it doesn't need to.
It will catch you eventually. It knows this, and it knows you know this. If you flee, you will only delay the inevitable. If you embrace it, you will be consumed by the worst in yourself.
The Dark is generous and it is patient, and it always wins.
It always wins because it's in everything. It's in the wood that burns in the hearth of your home, it's under your chair and under your table and under the sheets of your bed, it's beneath your feet when you walk during midday.
The brightest of lights projects the darkest of shadows.
You can't flee from them, for they will catch you. You can't outrun them, you can't outsmart them. They will always find you, they will always catch you, they will always destroy you.
You can't join them. If you do, you will lose everything you are, and everything you hold dear will be crushed by your own hand. You will become nothing but a shadow of yourself, the incarnation of your worst tendencies, of your anger and hate and greed. You, like the darkness, will take and steal and plunder every little thing in the universe, but you will never be satiated.
You will try to hunt down every light, every little source of heat and comfort, to recover the warmth you lost. But it's not enough, it will never be. You will always be cold. Like the snows of Hoth, like the caves of Ilum.
You will remember power, but your power will never be more than a memory. You will lose it, surrender it to the darkness, and you will have nothing but a shadowy mockery of what you once possessed. Like an artist gone blind, like a composer gone deaf.
And in the void where your soul used to be, you will freeze in the everlasting cold.
Tumblr media
This is how it feels to fall into the Dark Side, to give yourself to the Sith. Now. Right now. Forever.
The Dark is generous and it is patient. You cannot defeat it, you cannot escape from it, you cannot destroy it.
But in its strength lies weakness. For all its power for destruction, for all the things it has killed, kills and will kill, there is one thing the Dark will never take from you, no matter how much it tries.
The Dark will never kill your hope.
The Dark will never kill your faith.
The Dark will never kill your love.
Tumblr media
Only you can take it from yourself.
Every time a door closes, a window opens, full of thrilling possibilities. Just as the storm brings safety for those who are prepared and the mist protects which doesn't want to be found, in the darkest of moments someone will dream of the break of dawn.
Just as the Dark has won its decisive victory over the Light, a new star will be born from the cold dusty remains of another, and bring new hope for another day.
Just as you lose yourself in the worst of yourself, you will always find the best in you, if you know where to look.
The people you love aren't yours. They belong only to the universe and to themselves. You will lose them, because they go away or because the universe has taken them. But when you love them truly, you will find the purest form of joy, whether they are with you, by your side, or not.
The Dark will always be present, stalking you, hunting you. But as long as you carry your love within your heart, it will never hurt you.
The people you love may be gone, but they were here. They existed, they were by your side and have you their love. Nothing can take that love away from you, not all the power in the universe, and certainly not the Dark. What is grief, if not love persevering?
Tumblr media
Hold on, come what may, and you will find a light in the darkness.
Never let your fear overpower your love, your anger nor your hate overpower your compassion, and even when it catches you, the Dark will be unable to destroy you. Always keep kindness at the core of your anger, for it is the hilt that protects you from the cold blade you wield.
The Dark is generous and it is patient, but in its strength lies weakness: one lone candle can hold it back.
Love is more than just a candle. Love can ignite the stars.
Don't lose sight of your love in your fear. Don't let your inner turmoil steal your kindness. Never forget who you are. Find the Light within your heart, and never lose sight of it.
Stop holding on, let go of what you're afraid to lose. Don't hold it tightly, do it kindly and gently and let it move away if it desires. Know yourself, know your pain, know your rage, and let it go. Free yourself from hate, from anger, from fear, and love people regardless of the pain it might bring you when those people are lost.
Love with everything you have, and you will make new stars shine brightly.
Only then will you be able to defeat…

What are your thoughts about the Knights of Ren and their unique, ‘chaotic evil’ philosophy about the dark side? Since they’re often cited as being underdeveloped despite all the build-up they received in the sequel trilogy and expanded material, how would you improve/add onto their order and its lore?

just a thought on how Merlin’s and Dooku’s arcs are similar.
They both witness the injustice of their world (for merlin it’s the persecution of people who use magic, for dooku it’s the corruption of the senate).
They want/need to make things better but are isolated from those around them and don’t really know how they can make changes.
And then, someone (read Sidious & Kilgharrah) tells them that they can change things for the better! They just have to listen to Sidious & Kilgharrah!
In doing so, Merlin and Dooku see their morals slowly being corrupted. And, one day, they look back at who they were and they realize they’ve gone too far to come back
Dooku’s desire for social justice and dignity for the people of the Republic turned into 'peace and order'
Similarly Merlin's duty to Albion turned into an attachment to Arthur. Is he really still fighting to lift the magic ban by the end? Maybe he believes he does…
If he had been in SW, Merlin would have become a Darksider during season 5

Beware of anger, fear, and aggression. The dark side are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.
Master Yoda in: Return of the Jedi by James Kahn
Reason why balance of the Force isn't made of light/dark equality. It's not yin and yang. Dark side = fear, anger, aggression. They can't be equaled with peace, serenity, harmony within one person. If you feel anger, you are not at peace. In the galactic scale, you can't also say - one half of the galaxy should be peaceful and the other not. It's not balance, because the galaxy is connected through the Force, making it into one unified spiritual entity. It can't be separated into fully independent parts.

"Look at me! You really think I am lovable? Do you think I am capable of love? .... Of course you do. But what if love is something twisted for me, something that causes only torture and pain, something that is as addictive to me as my beloved Death Sticks. The way I love means I possess, I devour, I prey on you. The way I want you means pain and blood, rage and hatred, pure and raw emotions. Do you really dare to give yourself to the monster that I am?" - Iego

SUN KILLER LULLABY
SUMMARY: In the final days of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano struggles to protect the shattered remains of her family. Her brothers, the clones, are falling faster than she can save them, and each loss tears away at her. Anakin, too, is slipping away, their bond twisted by an unsettling darkness that threatens to consume them both. On Mandalore, with enemies pressing in and the weight of the galaxy on her shoulders, Ahsoka is forced to confront a harsh truth: some battles aren’t meant to be won—only survived.
RATING: M
PAIRINGS: GEN
WARNINGS: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Character Death, visit A03 for the full list of tags
CHAPTER I: TELL ME THE WAVES WON'T RISE SUMMARY: Old bonds are reforged, and visions are shared. CHAPTER WORD COUNT: 6.2 K
You’re not home, Ahsoka reminds herself, ignoring the swoop of emotions in her chest. She’s surrounded in the Force by the warmth of the soldiers around her, not the least Rex and Anakin. Rex glows with pride, the newly painted orange and white helmet held gently between his gloves as she trails her hands over it. Anakin wears a small smirk, mischievous and self-satisfied. He’s been projecting unease ever since she landed on the Negotiator, stepping around her cautiously, tripping over his words. Only by presenting her a company in her own colors do his turbulent emotions settle. Behind Ahsoka, twinned relief and excitement emanates from the small contingent of clone officers, but especially from the ones she knows well. Vaughn is at perfect attention, his energy calm and balanced, but incredibly pleased to see her. Kes and Lion are radiating delight, barely holding their salutes. Prim and Finch feel nearly as animated. Jesse stands over her right shoulder, the ARC Trooper an unshakably warm presence that settles in the back of her skull. She’s missed this, the easy comradery of her siblings, her vode. The last time she saw most of this group had been on the Resolute, well before the Temple bombing. She spent weeks wondering if they blamed her for leaving the Order without saying goodbye... Even if they had, any lingering resentment has been replaced with infectious joy at seeing her safe and back amongst them. You’re not back and you are not home, she chides, pulling herself back to the present. In Anakin’s hands there is a lightsaber box. Her lightsabers. Her throat closes, unruly emotions getting the best of her. She reaches out, long fingers coming to rest on the carved wood.
