Dusk AU Verse

700 years ago:

Theia lead her host of Ilken to slaughter the Valg and Daglan nobles who held her people under their thumb. The Triad allowed their people to be taken as Mates and lovers at the Daglan and Valg's whims. Something needed to change. She was killed, her daughters Helena and Silene were married off to their Daglan mates. 200 years later Silence would give birth to Seraphine.

500 years ago:

Ignotus another Ilken took up Theia's cause creating the Vennin. He promised the sundered and splintered Ilken he'd lead them to glory days again. Rhysand, Seraphine, Xaden and his brothers helped crush them.

200 years ago:

Lucifael met Alexiel, he was a guest of her father Drakon. They instantly connected. Lucifael's parents had clawed themselves to revelance, Cassian and Tanwyn had used their Ilken knowledge to help Estelle and Rhysand infiltrate and put the Vennin down. Lucifael and Alexiel ran away together, they mated before Lucifael took her back to Day. Drakon in outrage launched a war, forcing Xaden, and his brothers to chose which side to fight on. Lucifael refused to send his mate back. Alexiel didn't wish to go back. The war last 10 years. It stripped Orion, Shahar, and others of their innocence. It only ended when Lucifael and Alexiel chose to Burn Up together than risk being separated.

Now:

Eosphorous rules Dusk, Ember has long walked away from politics. Theia had held her hostage, made her watch her see her mother locked away. Her father long since slaughtered, Theia had eaten his soul to begin grow her power. Ember was tired, exhausted and she didn't want any part of it.

Her daughter felt the same way, the Ilken blood in her made the others sneer at her. Though she and Rigelus had that common their intense relationship had fractured for it. He saw nothing wrong with living removed from the masses, living above them. Bryce longed to be part of them, to live free.

The High Queen Amite, who had held the position since Sive's death 1,000 years now had Faded. She long had promised the position to Seraphine in private. She would continue the work of inclusion Sive had started.

But many Daglan opposed it, revolts erupted at the mere idea of a half-breed on their sacred throne.

Eosphorous sent soldiers to help Rhysand.

The realms were destabilized now. The Valg had no leader with Doranelle destoryed 200 years ago. Nesta was the next in line for that throne and many turned to her for their next moves. But she hadn't left Night. Was it because she didn't care for them?

Or was it because Rhysand kept her captive?

The Valg began to amass their armies to free their queen.

Sebastian and Natalia had grown weaker and tired. Too exhausted to keep up with this latest war. They took to the crystal coffins to rest.

Danika knew the only one who could push this back, who could help stop this was Bryce. If she ascended to High Lady of Dusk perhaps she could rewrite the wrongs already done.

Perhaps she could save many more from the conscription orders Eosphorous was whispered to be writing.

The Ilken saw Seraphine as the new hope. She would ascend to the Daglan Throne they whispered. She would remake the Triad from their seat power they dreamed.

She'd bring back all they lost and many wished feverntly for this. For their relics and history to be known again. To be celebrated and cherished like they once had.

The Triad had once been of equal power with The High Queens of Daglan and Valg. Perhaps it was time for it to come back.

Rigelus slid his hands in his pockets, watching Bryce lock up the antique shop. It was late, he was tired. He stared at the stars, the light of the city hid many of them.

These quiet moments were beginning to torture him.

Fates, he needed to get a fucking grip.

He blinked, jumping when Bryce pinched his arm.

"Are you even listening to me? Did you see that order than came from Flynn's dad? Talk about tasteless...."

He tuned her out, his mind unable to focus on the conversation. On chitchatting with her. He should be focusing on the growing Ophion threat.

Intelligence from Summer put Creon in the wind and next to Orion - he was a wild threat.

Creon was rumored to hold Valg blood, be able to play on people's emotions and memories. He should reach out to his siblings and see if -

"Rigelus? Everything okay?"

He stopped, looking at her, her touch grounding him. He swallowed, so many words, so many questions and truths on the top of his tongue.

"Do you lo - does Connor make you happy Bryce?"

He stepped closer, something in him screaming he shouldn't step too close. There were lines, he should stick within them.

"Do you ever dream of someone else? Something else Bryce?"

Bryce startled slightly at the question, turning to face Rigelus with surprise clear on her face. They had had similar conversations before, though usually Rigelus simply asked with Bryce spent so much time with Connor. This question though...

This seemed deeper somehow. And the look on Rig's face as he asked it gave her pause.

"What? Of course, he makes me happy, Rig. He's my friend, and my friends make me. You also make me happy because you're also my friend. Danika, June, Fury... hell even my brother sometimes makes me happy. What are you getting at here?" She frowned as she spoke, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

And then his next question hit her, and Bryce felt as though cold water had been dumped on her. How could he possibly know about her dreams? She had never told anyone about them, not even Danika. About the male she always dreamt about, that she spoke with every night. He was her mate, she was sure of it, but she wasn't even entirely sure he was real and had no way of knowing who it was so she had just... ignored it. Kept it to herself. To her dreams.

"How do you know about the dreams, Rigelus?" she asked softly, voice barely above a whisper.

Who was he to question their commitment? Who were he to tell her or Orion they needed to sacrifice more?

Shahar eyes blazed, she was done playing nice. Orion had made his stance clear and let them disparage her - not him.

She turned from Ruhn. She focused on Lidia in the doorway those gold eyes meeting hers. Already knowing this secret.

"Can I speak for you Lidia?"

Lidia inclined her head. She didn't look at Ruhn.

"You may."

Shahar kept her own disgust in check. Orion knew what she thought of a mate who chose grudges over their own mate. Lidia had proved herself again and again, who was Ruhn to pass any judgment? If Bryce hadn't dragged him into all of this would he even be involved or still partying and fucking anything that moved?

"I know this won't land well. But you'll never understand. Lidia did everything she could to make a better world for her children. To hopefully have a day when her sons would inherit a just and beautiful world."

Shahar shivered, she couldn't look at Orion. But she felt his presence in the bond. They had to work through this eventually.

She fought for composure, the bricks shattering when Danika spoke.

"Look I don't begrudge her for what she did. I - I admire her for her bravery actually. But you started this Shahar, the least you can do is see it through -"

"What will be the point when we loose?

Danika's eyes blazed.

"Where is your anger? Where is your rage? You and Orion are together and I - fine. But where is the rage for what they did to your mate?!"

Shahar looked to Orion, he leaned against the wall. She turned back to Sanika, meeting her stare.

"They broke it, extinguished it when they took our week old baby and threw it off the roof of that horrible place it front of me."

She would not break here. She would not let them see the shattered soul underneath. She was the Daystar, the general.

But Fates, was that mask beginning to crack at the edges.

Hunt's arms tensed, his shoulders and back almost ramrod straight, as he avoided looking directly at Shahar. Or Lidia, really, but it was more Shahar's gaze that he was avoiding than the other female's. He had a feeling, though, that Ruhn was avoiding Lidia just as much as he was Shahar.

A quick glance towards the Fae prince confirmed Hunt's suspicions.

Ruhn's own arms were crossed as he leaned against the wall opposite Hunt. He wasn't quite looking at any of them directly, even as his fingers would form a fist off and on, like he was working through not letting some explosion of rage show.

Like that anger he held back was barely done so. ❝ But what other choice is there? We stay and do nothing, we die. We fight, we might die. Bryce looked to Danika, to the wasteland down below. Danika hadn't told her why they'd come here.

But she said she promised to tell her everything after being discharged.

Danika turned to look at Orion as the car approached them.

"Don't be a dick."

Orion glared at her.

"I don't even know who we're meeting."

The car stopped, Pollux stepped out. His jaw clenched before he exhaled. He shut the door, walking toward them. He gave Danika a tired half-smile.

"You gave us a scare -"

"Why are you here Pollux? Are -"

"Baxian and her are mates Orion. I'm taking her to him...and I assume you two?"

Danika glared back at Hunt, tossing her braid and gripped her pack. She looked back to Pollux, moving to give him a quick hug.

"Lunathion isn't safe. Bryce insisted on coming with me. And well -"

"Orion threw a fit? He does that with his females. Let's go."

Bryce looked between them and reached for Orion's hand. She ignored Pollux. She'd heard enough stories to keep her distance even if Danika didn't. Something was wrong here.

"Hunt? Are you ready to -"

They were mates. His mouth went dry, he remembered those early years as he had watched the young wolf try and find his own way. He remembered watching him struggle and fight, trying to make his way while carving his own path. He butted heads, he lashed out.

Orion’s hands flexed at his side as he looked towards Bryce, the feeling of her hand as she took his. A grounding move, a moment which distracted him. It wasn’t like…

He couldn’t hope for that though, he couldn’t pine.

Squeezing her hand in return he nodded, stepping towards her before he glared at Pollux. “We just need to get out of Lunathion for a while…”

Ladham, Wales 1335

We are sad to report that both Ynyr and Agnes have passed away, within a few months of each other. Rhys and Laurena are both devastated. Laurena is pregnant, and has decided to wait until the birth of the baby before deciding if she will stay on the farm or travel home.

In more bad news for Rhys, his cousin, Innocent, married Danika, who you may remember Rhys was quite sweet on. Danika and Innocent are expecting their first baby.

Imran, the blacksmith, and his new wife Elsa have welcomed a daughter, Miskia. Elsa's sister, Sofia, decided that life in Wales is not for her, so she moved back home and is now married to her cousin, Markus, and they are expecting a baby themselves!

John Ladler, who was Regent for his nephew, Edward, died. Supposedly he was attacked by a cow? How could such a brave and strong man get taken down by a mere bovine? About 6 months after his death his widow, Ayla, announced she was pregnant with his child. At the same time, Edward's mother, Orion, announced her own pregnancy out of wedlock! Roderick, the Edward's older, illegitimate brother, and Karla, his youngest aunt, had had enough of all these babies without fathers, and with the help of the local knights removed all of them from the castle.

Orion with her chambermaid, Isabella, and their three children, have returned to her homeland. Good riddance! Meanwhile, Alma and Ayla have decided to take religious vows. With a generous donation of the items they managed to take when they left Castle Ladler, the nuns of St Brigid were happy to take them on as sisters, and care for the two (soon to be three) "foundlings" they brought with them.

My (spoilery) thoughts and theories on Crescent City:

Hunt x Bryce is endgame, I‘m 100 % sure

There were just sooo many scenes with them that screamed endgame. They saw each other on there lowest points, saved their lives multiple times and other characters saw the spark between them too (even Danika pointed it out)

Not to be dramatic or anything but I am really good at spotting the love interest in a book/movie and the only character I think Bryce should be with is him

I know some of you think Aidas might turn out to be the second Rhysand but Aidas gives me complete Suriel vibes

AND SJM can’t always do the same plot twists on us for all of her books, this time Bryce‘ first love interest will stay

There is definitely something more to the seventh Asteri

The Asteri either killed her or she is still alive

Maybe she lives in hell? Because Aidas told us that the Asteri twist the reality so I think there is definitely more to the war between Hell and this world

Because it really seems like Aidas was right that Hell doesn’t give a f*ck about the Asteri world and Jesiba seemed to trust him

AND did the epilogue drop that Jesiba was with Hunt‘s dad?

Who even is he?

Either a demon or one of the Asteri

(What speaks for demon: Aidas knew about him as well as Jesiba)

(What speaks for Asteri: One of them is named Rigelius, Rigel is a star in the constellation Orion, which is Hunts real name)

After all, the angels bowed to him so I think Bryce is not the only one with a powerful bloodline

This could also explain his special powers

The mystery involving Hunt‘s dad is also a reason why I think he won’t be the next Tamlin: SJM is giving Hunt a proper backstory with secrets of its own and therefore gives him plot that doesn’t involve Bryce so he still has things to learn

Rhys and Rowan both were pretty much perfect when we meet them, they new about their full potential while their female counterparts had to learn about their powers and got a lot of character development but with Crescent City I think it will be different because Hunt got his full powers back and the mystery about his father is still unsolved which could potentially give him more powers or in general just more character development (I hope you know what I mean, English isn’t my first language)

I think we can all agree that the Asteri are the evil guys and they must go lol

And what‘s the thing between Theia and Pelias? Did he kill her? Why is her light so different? Why does Bryce have it? Is she the reincarnation?

To me it seemed as if Aidas and Theia were close so this makes the story the Asteri tell everyone even more unbelievable

And why does Aidas want to see Bryce? What secrets will he tell her?

And btw we still have to get a s*x scene between Hunt and Bryce which we would have definitely gotten sooner if SJM plans on tearing them apart (this is me materializing Hunt x Bryce endgame)

I hope that Ruhn and Bryce will wield these twin swords or daggers this fae prophecy spoke about

And who is Danika‘s Dad? I think he might be important at one day

The last 300 pages were btw so so so good, the twists killed me! I am so hyped about CC 2

I know that some of you don’t like it that Bryce is starborn but I just honestly thinks that SJM is the queen of epic scenes and battles and I read her books because I know the main protagonists will be badass and I just feel so empowered by them and that’s all I need

Bryce spoke of how she saved Micah a few days ago, how it had lead to being dragged into some investigation.

Emelin was just thrilled her sister was focusing on something beyond Danika in a coma in the hospital.

She hadn't seen the demons, the way they'd launched themselves at her. She would have been dead if the Malakhim hadn't stopped to save her.

He looked like Orion, those same dark eyes. But his magic was shadows and cold. He cut them to peices before turning to her. He crouched before her, holding his hand out to help her up.

Orion wasn't sure why he went with Bryce to the hospital. He wasn't sure why he cared about her sister her he'd never met.

His mother liked to talk about forces pushing for things that no one understood till they happened. This felt like one of those times.

"Creon. You attack her? You were never one to leave someone alive."

Creon turned from the door, he barely glanced at Bryce and looked to Orion. Orion couldn't understand how his brother had changed so drastically. He'd always been supportive of him, always looked out for him.

To then go and throw himself with the Daglan? To support them and openly be their most prized weapon? He didn't recognize his brother.

And that probably killed him more than anything else did. Creon turned to walk down the hall. The rings on his hands glinted, old money rings. Except for the Signet ring they'd both been given. Orion had given his to Shahar when they'd married before the war.

He wondered if Creon had thrown at their parents when he walked out. Or if he'd tossed it the ocean on the way here.

"I saved her Orion. Valg creatures attacked her."

Creon flexed his fingers, he didn't see the gallons of blood under his nails anymore. But he knew it was there no matter how many times he scrubbed his fingers.

Orion wouldn't understand, he'd never choose to willingly sacrifice himself for another. He didn't want him to, he didn't want him to know what that selflessness felt like. It was his job to protect him, to keep him safe like he had these last 200 years.

Maybe he should do more for Shahar, maybe he shouldn't be glad for the torment she was suffering.

Ruhn bristled under Creon's tone. Like he was somehow so much better than Ruhn himself was! Sure, he had rebelled against all that responsibility; Ruhn hadn't ever really wanted such a life for himself, if he was honest.

He hadn't ever understood Creon's whole act, everything his cousin had done-- But then, what could he expect, when raised by those... Sure they might all be related by blood, but that was as far as things went.

And sometimes, it wasn't nearly far enough.

Ruhn scoffed at the obvious dismissal in Creon's tone, but he ignored it all the same. The other male wasn't everything that this world revolved around, and he refused to act like it. In fact, there was a large part of Ruhn that really... disliked Creon.
