Food Waste and Food Distribution refers to FareShare
On Tuesday a session took place in Parliament that is entitled Food Waste and Food Distribution and the person who opened this is Jo Gideon who is the Conservative MP for Stoke on Trent and she states “I beg to move, That this House has considered food waste and food distribution” and she then says “Let me begin by reflecting on our connection to food.” After several other people and many words…

Is there a bigger agenda to the farmers’ inheritance-tax ‘sick joke’?
BySally Beck
November 14, 2024
THE British farming community is planning a mass lobby of Parliament next week and will be joined by Jeremy Clarkson. Farmers say Labour has declared ‘war on the countryside’ and that the government has broken its promise by introducing a ‘crippling’ inheritance tax on family farms. Nicknamed the ‘suicide charter’ by the farming community, the policy has already resulted in one death, while elderly farmers wonder if they should kill themselves to save their family’s legacy.
Clarkson, a fierce critic of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s recent Budget and its inheritance tax changes, said farmers were ‘very angry and anxious’ about their future. He owns a 1,000-acre farm in the Cotswolds called Diddly Squat, which made just £144 profit in its first year.
Our Parliamentary representatives are indifferent, as demonstrated last week by their response to the deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice. He asked in the Commons: ‘Are the Minister, the Secretary of State and the Chancellor aware that so serious are the consequences of this policy that the heads of farming families in their 80s and 90s are seriously considering committing suicide before it comes into place?’
Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle prevented further debate on the subject, while Daniel Zeichner, Minister for Food Security and Rural Affairs, seemed to be lost for words. He said: ‘I find it hard to respond to a question like that.’
National Farmers Union (NFU) president Tom Bradshaw is livid and warned that Labour’s move would further fuel a mental-health crisis among farmers. Farming already has a high suicide rate with 36 per cent of farmers admitting they are depressed, while 47 per cent say they struggle with anxiety.

For years I have been surrounded by delicious food that isn part of my heritage and I come to realise that being Filipino is and will always be part of who I am, and the biggest misgiving I have is not knowing as much of it as I wish I do. I hate being the typical Filipino who can only cook mainstream dishes like adobo, tinola, sinigang, kare kare, etc. I wish I could have a deeper knowledge of native ingredients that are indigent to the land, the way Alex Atala does for Brazil.. It started when I was a kid. Moms new boyfriend moved in with us. Two weeks later he started beating me for any reason he could think of. It must be borne in mind that, like some others of the greatest poets, he was not a poet merely, but also a man of practical affairs, in the eyes of his associates first and mainly a courtier, diplomat, and government official. His wide experience of men and things is manifest in the life likeness and mature power of his poetry, and it accounts in part for the broad truth of all but his earliest work, which makes it essentially poetry not of an age but for all time. Something of conventional medievalism still clings to Chaucer in externals, as we shall see, but in alertness, independence of thought, and a certain directness of utterance, he speaks for universal humanity. I just got my own sweater like the one in your cart and some new nursing bras and it makes such a huge difference in my quality of life. It seems like such a silly thing, a sweater with special zippers for nursing, almost like a luxury item. That why it took me so long to get my own, but honestly a good few solid nursing tops/dresses made a huge difference to how I felt about myself.. Do I think we should take the circumstances into account? I am not sure. In Lauras and Gabriels case i would say no. There is a high change of you being problematic when you claim someone is racist, still were good friends with him and then your own racist and problematic tweets surface. 1 point submitted 1 day agoThis is almost exactly what I wanted from this drama. Insane chemistry in a plot with romance at its forefront. I like how they pacing it, and I looking forward to the stalker ex side plot. High school teacher here: had a whole conversation with my homeroom about him. They asked 동인천출장안마 about what was happening, and Stormy Daniels did come up in the conversation. A student asked who she was, so I told him she was a former porn star who had an affair with Trump and about the hush money. Also known as glycerol, glycerin is a humectant that works similarly to hyaluronic acid, says Zeichner. Composed of fats and sugars, it's a sweet tasting lipid that's actually found in all fats, whether they are from animals or vegetables [Source: Paula's Choice]. Because glycerin is a humectant, it readily absorbs and retains water, keeping skin sooth and hydrated. I borrowed a vacuum cleaner from the front office and everything was fine.I rooming with my boyfriend, who I met in person at UF and knew 동인천출장안마 for a while before we moved in together. When I lived on campus, I applied for housing waaay late and was put into a completely random rooming situation. I loved my roommates and am lucky to have had such a positive experience.

BOBBY PRINZ
geboren 1980, in Baden nahe Zürich.
An Prinzens 30.
Bobby Prinz, Spielerkarriere
2000 - FC Baden/ 0 Spiele ( NLB & Auf/Ab-NLA)
2001 - FC Baden/ 1 Spiel (NLB & Ab-NLB

Several significant themes from last weeks Parliament
Last week several significant themes emerged including on Monday the second reading of a Bill called Lifelong Learning (Higher Education Fee Limits) that Gillian Keegan, the Chichester MP set out. On Tuesday a session entitled High Street Bank Closures involved Andrew Griffith, the MP for Arundel and South Downs. Then on Wednesday there was a debate called Poverty: Food Costs which sadly did not…

Beziehungs-Weisen: Die Arolser Barock-Festspiele 2020
Pharma industry body urges “ambition” in UK-EU trade talks
A pharma industry group has welcomed the UK’s priorities in trade talks due to start with the EU on Monday, but is tight-lipped about the government’s threat to walk away from the table in June if initial exchanges don’t go well.
The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) likes a number of elements in the new position document published this week, including mutual recognition of manufacturing standards, information sharing on safety data, and participation in the €100 billion Horizon Europe science programme post-Brexit.
It also welcomed the commitment to high standards for intellectual property rights, mutual recognition of professional qualifications, and continued cooperation in areas like antimicrobial resistance and animal welfare standards.
The UK government has set out “a vision for a future relationship where both sides can work together in the interest of patient safety, public health, and the pursuit of scientific progress for UK and EU citizens,” according to ABPI chief executive Richard Torbett, who urged “ambition and pragmatism” as the talks get underway to achieve those goals.
The ABPI wouldn’t comment on the government’s position that it will not accept alignment with EU rules and would be prepared to walk away from free trade agreement talks within weeks if there isn’t a “broad outline” of a deal.
The UK would have to see “good progress” in the talks on areas like financial services and data – which it views as being relatively straightforward elements for negotiation – with the prospect of a deal being finalised by the deadline at the end of this year.
If it walks away, the UK will start down a path towards a no-deal Brexit – something industry almost universally wants to avoid – and the prospect of trading under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules that would include the imposition of tariffs on some goods.
The document reiterates the UK’s position that it would like to agree a Canada-style free-trade agreement, but notes that “if it is not possible to negotiate a satisfactory outcome, then the trading relationship with the EU will rest on the 2019 Withdrawal Agreement and will look similar to Australia’s.”
WTO rules do include a Pharmaceutical Tariff Elimination Agreement which aims to reduce duties to zero on certain pharmaceutical products, but this is out-of-date, according to the BioIndustry Association (BIA) trade group.
The agreement – which covers finished pharmaceutical products and specified active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) intermediaries – “needs a significant update to the specified list of APIs and intermediaries that qualify,” said the BIA earlier this month.
The organisation says it has been asking the UK government to discuss revisions to the agreement with WTO members for the last three years, without any action being taken, and if it isn’t updated “innovative pharmaceuticals products manufactured in the UK could be at risk of being subject to tariffs in the years ahead.”
Meanwhile, with an eye on the UK-EU trade talks as well as ongoing negotiations with other parts of the world, this week also saw the relaunch of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Life Sciences.
At its first meeting following the General Election, the APPG – chaired by Daniel Zeichner MP – considered how parliamentarians, government and industry can work together to ensure that patients and the economy continue to benefit from innovation in the UK life sciences sector.

17-31.8. Benjamin Solt & Daniel Zeltner: Work in Progress
So.18./ Do.22./ Fr. 23./ Fr. 30. von 13:00-18.00 Uhr
Sa. 31.8. KUNSTHOCH von 11:00-19:00 Uhr mit Konzert von EPLORE ERROR um 17:00 Uhr

Labour's Brexit civil war has turned into an insurgency
One of the reasons Labour performed strongly in the general election was the surge in support in Remain areas and among the young, so it's ironic that this has allowed Jeremy Corbyn to consolidate his control of the party and enforce hard Brexit. He flexed his newfound muscles last night by sacking three ministers who backed an amendment on staying in the single market. Shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer, who for many months was gradually retreating on his demands for single market membership, has now effectively accepted defeat and adopted the hard Brexit position of Jeremy Corbyn. This seems all but inevitable really. Even during the election campaign it was almost impossible to figure out if he still believed in trying to remain a member. By the time Corbyn secured his surprisingly strong result, the game was up. Last week, dozens of Labour MPs, MEPs and peers launched a group opposing hard Brexit outside the single market and the customs union. Starmer was apparently livid. He responded by accusing them of disloyalty against the leadership and lacking ambition. He demanded they cease and desist from all such initiatives. Outside of this moment of anger, the former lawyer is said to be almost entirely technocratic in his approach, constantly trying to think of ways of replicating the single market outside of it, for instance by creating British bodies to guarantee equivalence with European standards. This, by the way, would be profoundy emasculating and pointless, forcing the UK to abide by laws that it has absolutely no say in formulating. If EEA membership is democracy by fax, this would be democracy by baton. But more importantly, it suggests Starmer's fine legal mind has now been put to work entirely in the service of Corbyn's hard Brexit position. There is no tug-of-war on the Labour frontbench over Brexit anymore. Now Corbyn is moving to enforce total control of the party. In February, 52 Labour MPs voted against triggering Article 50. There was some question about what would happen to them. Corbyn held a meeting with chief whip Nick Brown to figure out what to do. In the end, he merely sanctioned them, sending out a warning about their future conduct, rather than sacking them.
It was not what he did yesterday.
Labour MP Chuka Umunna put forward an amendment calling for single market membership. Corbyn responded by putting forward an alternative amendment which tried to buy off potential rebels by promising a "jobs first" Brexit that will deliver the "exact same benefits" as single market membership. It is illiterate nonsense. The single market and customs union effectively enmesh the standards and systems of their members so that they become, for trading purposes, the same country. There is no free trade deal on earth which comes anywhere close to matching it. And even if there was, Europe has already made clear any deal outside the single market must be worse than one within it - or what's the point of being a member in the first place? The jobs-first priority is welcome, but because no 'exact same benefits' solution is possible, it is inevitable that there will be very considerable job losses from a hard Brexit, particularly in manufacturing and agriculture - exactly the working class sectors Labour is supposedly meant to represent. We should also expect severe losses in financial services, IT and communications, and transport. Forty-nine Labour MPs refused to be fooled by Corbyn's child daycare amendment and instead backed the single market one, including four frontbenchers: Andy Slaughter, Ruth Cadbury, Catherine West and Daniel Zeichner. This time there was zero tolerance. Newly emboldened from the election result, Corbyn sacked the first three, while Zeichner - knowing what was coming - resigned.
It is frustrating to see principled politicians of their calibre go. Andy Slaughter, in particular, has been valiantly defending migrant rights for his entire career, through constituency case work, parliamentary rearguard actions and protests. He was shadow justice minister when Chris Grayling was justice secretary and day after day he challenged the appalling reactionary dimwittedness of the government. He is the type of progressive politician any socialist leader should be proud to have on their team. Corbyn has sacked him so he can support the right of the Conservative party on hard Brexit.
This vote likely marks the end of the pre-election stage of the Brexit debate, where opposition rested largely on internal challenges within the parties. The game now being played is about cross-party parliamentary support. Yesterday's Umunna amendment was, more than anything, about putting down a flag showing cross-party alliances were possible. The 49 Labour MPs were joined by 34 SNP MPs, 12 Lib Dems, four Plaid MPs, one Green and one independent. There was no Tory support, despite there being sympathy in the parliamentary party for this proposition, because it's a Queen's Speech amendment. Once a vote cannot be interpreted as a blockage to the Tory ability to form a government, criticial MPs are likely to be more amenable to opposing hard Brexit. Those Labour frontbenchers who were sacked paid the price, but they showed Tory MPs that a cross-party alliance exists against hard Brexit, waiting for them to join. There is a great irony to this parliament. Just over a year ago, the Brexit referendum returned a Leave vote after a campaign based on the notion of parliamentary sovereignty. Then Theresa May tried to use Brexit to expand her executive power only to see it blow up in her face and return a hung parliament. And now parliament really is sovereign, in the way that counts: every MP has just become hugely important. The razor tight victories we're already seeing, even at Queen's Speech stage, show just how crucial every vote will be That means Brexit rebels in every party have a crucial role when Brexit legislation hits the Commons after the summer. It is no longer about them taking on their own leadership. It is about the centre of the Labour and Conservative party taking on both their leaderships, who are at this stage basically following the same policy. What was before a series of simultaneous internal party civil wars is now a parliamentary insurgency.
There is a majority in parliament for single market and customs union membership. The extent to which the insurgency succeeds depends on whether MPs from different parties can work together to secure it.
