When i was a child i was SOO into halloween and trick or treating. I went once, but let’s remember i live in indonesia where…. nobody celebrates halloween. And it was like, in 2006. My neighborhood is full of grandmas and grampas in their retirement homes. So i just ended up going door to door in a dracula costume and sit to talk with them. Got my cheeks pinched here and there, and they gave butter biscuits and warm tea🥰
#i love my childhood friends (neighbor grandmas and grampas)#AKDHSKDJDKKD#random stuff#delete later#i mean NOW there are halloween parties in college.#i also went once#as pele#from midsommar#bc i dont have a white dress 😭 (i wanted to go as dani but i only got white shirt and pants) AKHDKFKF

Can someone explain the whole "female rage" bullshit because not one of these movie women are empowering examples
#''fEmALe rAgE'' but it's just young women idolizing fictional abused women#it's not even empowering because they kill their abusers. because they never escape their situation#i usually see dani from midsommar and pearl#nothing more admirable and empowering that being groomed by a nazi murder cult#or being trapped in an unhappy marriage and becoming an axe murderer#but slay i guess lol#what bothers me the most about it is the deeper gender stuff of course#the sentiment that there's some inherently unique form of rage to women#that's different from all other emotions#is it like... women have to pretend to be ok all the time so when they eventually snap they SNAP?#if that's the case i still think folks are choosing the wrong fictional women to idolize#it's just more of tiktok culture reinventing oppositional sexism

yeah yeah ,female rage this, female rage that.
hey why are all of your girlboss coquette girldinner nymph icons white or pale. why are they all skinny. why are all of them feminine. what's your reaction when a black person is near you at night? why are none of them actually enraged just but palatably crying with lightly smudged makeup and a vaguely upset expression.
#the only “”female rage“” character I've ever seen who's actually angry is that one girl mia goth plays#the rest are just sad. like dani from midsommar is just capital S Sad#plague's thoughts

i had absolutely no idea that people were theorizing that the harga in midsommar had something to do with the deaths of dani's family, how cartoonishly preposterous
#not all things necessarily need to link together! it can just be a demonstration of IMMENSE family trauma#which is obviously a hot spot for the cult to utilize for manipulation#the theories are always such stretches that the (very rural) cult somehow knew about them across the world and infiltrated their lives#dani wasn't even meant to go to sweden and pele was peripheral to her via christian#i think those theories ultimately detract from the real world horror of the cult and what midsommar was made to represent#bc theyre so cartoonish and unlikely

Ah the summer sunlight problem hit me, I fell asleep during the day, and don’t have my clock set to 24 hours because I don’t wanna do math when I check the time. But I fully assumed I was waking up at 7pm instead of am this morning. Got up at like 8 wandered around and got real weirded out by how fuckin’ quiet everything was.
Finally saw a clock that had AM highlighted.
Like don’t get me wrong I do prefer it to when the sun only comes out for like 4-5 hours a day, but like the inverse is definitely confusing sometimes.
#one of the ways I can understand why Midsommar is viewed as a black comedy in Sweden#like yeah there’s some stuff that’s just horror but some of it’s just like…#‘people experience the northern hemisphere for the first time and it blows their minds’#like yeah it was a white supremacist cult but there are suggestions that Dani came from Mormonism I think#or at least Mormon country I think#so like.#she had that sort of stuff as part of her life from the jump#though I might be misremembering this from one of the many video essays I’ve watched#memory is a weird thing that blends multiple things into a lie

How is the cult from Midsommer white supremacist? Because they are swedish and borrow from paganism? The nazis appropriated Norse culture, they even misused different runes and symbols, and Scandinavia is one of the most tolerant regions in Europe.
There's Nazi imagery throughout the film, & the fact that all the poc die first is no mistake. Ari Aster himself has said that the Harga are White Supremacists:
Defying an outdated horror trope, Aster does not kill off Josh (William Jackson Harper) — the only black character for miles — first. As Aster points out, though, the Hårga are racist, a callback to “a part of Swedish history and European history,” and all of the “outsiders” or “new blood” recruited for mating are purposely white.
“He’s thrown away in a way that the other members of the main cast are not," Aster notes. “And that is because these people have no further use for him.”
The Harga, when not inbreeding with each other, go out and groom new members to either 1. Be sacrified or 2. Introduce new genes by manipulating people into the cult or drugging & raping them (what they did to Dani & Christian), & they ONLY pick white people for this. There are no nonwhite Harga & that's not an accident.
The script also makes it crystal clear that the nonwhite couple were specifically chosen (bc they are not white) & brought there to be sacrificed & were never going to live. The member that brought the nonwhite couple displays hatred & malice towards them when they're not looking, but doesn't do this with the other white outsiders
(Ingemar is the Harga that brought Connie & Simon, the nonwhite couple). Connie & Simon didn't do anything wrong, they didn't do anything outright to insult the Harga. The only thing they did was be shocked about seeing the ritual suicide & express desire to leave (and they weren't the only ones who did this, Dani also did). And yet they were some of the first to die.
Even the visuals-- the Harga wear all White, it's always in blinding daylight. Whiteness is a GLARING theme. There's also foreshadowing early on in the film, where a book titled "The secret Nazi language of the Uthark" featured in Christian's room just before they go to Sweden.
There's also other Nazi ideology present within the Harga, such as the strict gender roles (the women all wear dresses & cook & clean & care for the children together but the men butcher the bear together), eugenics & ableism (the elderly are killed off at a certain age because they see disability & needing to be cared for as an elder "shameful", which is what one Harga states at the ritual suicide scene, & of course killing off the nonwhite characters), the "return to tradition" ideology (there are NO modern technology in the community, & it's in the countryside).
You see a cult full of ONLY White people, using Norse paganism (something VERY popular with Nazis) in an isolated area, who routinely murder poc, don't intermix with poc, kill off their elderly, Dani (the blonde, light eyed white girl) is praised for her beauty & made their May queen by the Harga, with strict gender roles, & this film was made by a JEWISH MAN to show the Harga as the bad guys, & you don't have a hunch that the Harga are maybe supposed to be white supremacists/nazis? That doesn't raise any red flags for you?
& let's not forget how Scandanavia committed genocide against the Saami, the Indigenous population who were there for hundreds of years before anyone else. That's a little off topic, but as a First Nations Canadian I aint gunna let that just go unacknowledged. Scandanavia has a white supremacy problem too, & Ari Aster is right for pointing it out
#I've talked to other poc about this film & me & other ppl snuffed out that this movie would be about a nazi cult just from the trailer#nazi tw#being Scandanavian & being into paganism doesn't make you a white supremacist no.#but the film makes it obvious through the other clues that that's not what's going on here#anonymous#rape mention#cult tw#nazism tw

pretty when you cry ↠ day 30 ; corruption
↠ dani ardor x reader
fandom: midsommar word count: 1k warnings: nsfw 18+, dubcon, delulu reader, cunnilingus
kinktober m.list || read on ao3
She was the most gorgeous when she cried.
You chased after her when she fled from the men she came here with. Her face held so many emotions; you had never seen such expressions from a person before. You wanted to see more.
She looked surprised when she saw you. Her face was always so easy to read. Her cheeks glimmered with the wet tears that streamed down them, like crystal clear streams of water. Her blue eyes glistened, complimenting the red rimming around them.
You held her hand, weaving your fingers together with hers, kissing her fingertips and caressing the palm with your own. The redness that surfaced on her cheeks was enough to satisfy you for now.
You offered no words of comfort. She would get that soon enough.
The touch you gave her was fleeting. It would leave her wanting more. She would come back to you. You would make sure of it.
~
Pelle wanted her too. You could see it in his longing glances, the narrowing of his eyes when that man she was with tried to talk with her. His gaze was predatory, his words slowly starting to sink their way into her skin.
You would not allow this to continue.
She is not for you, he had said when he noticed the way she stared after you. You must leave her alone. Choose another. His words did not matter to you. She was so moldable; you wanted one of your own. She was the perfect choice. You always loved the golden blonde hair that your commune members had. She fit right in with them—with you. She was what you had dreamed of at night. The girl of your dreams.
Her purpose is greater than your fleeting desires. No, no, no, he was wrong. Her purpose is with you. It is why he pushes you away; he knows the destiny that you share. She only pulls away from you when he is there to distract her. The connection you share is one she cannot deny. Pelle needed to learn. Needed to understand. She was yours; your sister, your companion, your toy.
No man would take her away from you.
~
It was easy to convince Maja.
She had already thought he was attractive; all you needed to do was give her that extra push. And the drugs.
You stole Dani away first for the may pole competition. You danced and danced with her, staying close by her side.
She had held onto you so tightly, the drugs disorientating her. She needed to depend on you, to lean on you for support. You were there to ensure she won. But you didn’t need to worry too much. Dani was always meant to be the May Queen. Everyone in the commune knew it. But she didn’t need to.
She wanted to know where he was after her crowning. He showed no care for her, yet she was still concerned with him. It sickened you. She would soon learn that he wasn’t needed anymore, that she didn’t need him anymore.
You guided Dani to where Christian was. She needed to see it for herself to truly understand who was best for her. She had collapsed, and you held her, you cried with her, you calmed her down. You caressed her cheeks and kissed her hair. She trusted you, just what you had wanted.
Everything was going perfectly.
~
You brought her back to the quarters. She was still crying, but you continued to wipe the tears away as you sat her down on a bed. The two of you were alone in here, just as you anticipated. She was still a beauty through her sobs, and she was just what you needed to establish your place here. You both needed this.
You gently guided her towards her bed, shushing her as her tears continued.
It will bring us some healing.
You kissed her cheeks, tasted her tears.
He is doing the same with her.
Dani did not want to hear any of that.
She allowed you to remove her shirt, her perky breasts on full display. You played with her nipples, her little gasps causing heat to rise in your stomach. Her cheeks were flushed, and she refused to meet your eyes.
She gripped your shoulders tightly as you knelt down in front of her. She would be your queen, and you would pleasure her as so.
He did not care for you like this, did he?
Dani had never received treatment like this before. She acted like a virgin, gasping at every little touch. Her boy was a useless runt, and it was up to you to teach her what he had failed.
You lowered your mouth onto her cunt, a small taste of Heaven. Dani’s nails dug into your skin, marks you would show off as a sign of your loyalty. She grasped onto you like you were the only thing holding her stable.
Her lifeline.
She moaned and gasped and writhed as you tasted her, flicking your tongue deftly in her. You ran her hands up and down her sides, ghosting your fingers down her heaving stomach. Her head was thrown back, jaw pulled taut, and she looked every bit of a goddess as she would be revered as.
Her legs were thrown around your body when you licked her cunt and played with her aching clit. They shook when she orgasmed on your tongue, her moans echoing in the quarters. Everyone would know who it was that pleasured the May Queen, who brought endless success to the commune. You finally satiated your lust.
You won.
~
She was dressed in her May Queen ceremonial garbs. A picturesque image, buried underneath the flowers of her reign. You explained the final ceremony to her—the sacrifices, and her choice. You stood by her side the entire time. Your hands remained on her shoulders, moved down to the small of her back.
Her choice was the right one.
Christian was wheeled in, barely conscious. Dani had little reaction—only stared, a slight crease in her brow. You caressed her shoulder, hands delicately pressing the flowers that surrounded her. Her head tilted—ever-so-slightly—towards you.
No, she wanted you; she didn’t want, didn’t need, that boy of hers, or Pelle, or any other man in the commune. Everyone would need to agree to her wishes.
The May Queen has the final say, after all.

Midsommar vs SPOP: Cults and Religious Trauma
i watched Midsommar recently and was struck by how subtle and nuanced the Hårga were, in comparison to the Intergalactic Horde. of course, i don’t expect SPOP to show the kind of brutal gore that Midsommar did, but what i’m talking about is the way these cults indoctrinated members.
Horde Prime just mind controlled everyone to follow his orders and praise him, and it just felt so immature, especially compared to the way SPOP handled some of the other deeper topics. you’re telling me they wrote an actually good manipulator in the form of Shadow Weaver, but couldn’t do the same for Horde Prime? cult leaders are supposed to be manipulative. they don’t just force you to join their cults because it’s so much easier to break out of it. no, what they do is they convince you that this is for your own good. they promise you support, community, happiness, peace. they especially target emotionally vulnerable individuals, because they are a lot likely to accept help from a large community who is seemingly just looking out for them and trying to help them out.
and this is what happens in Midsommar. Dani recently lost her entire family to a murder-suicide, and her boyfriend had fallen out of love with her at this point and he often manipulates and guilt-trips her whenever she points out his mistakes. she was overall extremely lonely and depressed, trying hard to repress her emotions for everyone else’s sake. this is the kind of person the Hårga were looking for. a lot of the audience didn’t even realize that Dani was being indoctrinated into a cult or that joining said cult was going to be very unhealthy for her. that’s how convincing the Hårga were.
Pelle especially seems like the warm, comforting figure that Dani needed, letting her open up about her feelings and listening to her, in contrast to Christian, Dani’s boyfriend, who was often preoccupied with other things, and didn’t even bother to remember Dani’s birthday. you almost root for Pelle and Dani to end up together, until you realize that he is also part of the cult and all of his empathy and compassion is just a clever way to manipulate Dani into trusting the Hårga.
the scariest thing about the Hårga is that they weren’t large, imposing figures with a god complex. they didn’t have a leader who ruled them with an iron fist. they were just a seemingly normal community with seemingly normal people who had fun rituals and celebrations, and seemingly supported and cared for one another. even after seeing two people die brutally, Dani was still manipulated into joining the Hårga because they took advantage of her trauma and her loneliness. she desperately needed actual support and a shoulder to lean on, something her boyfriend didn’t provide. so when the Hårga offered her that support, it was easy for her to believe that this community was exactly what she needed.
and i think SPOP could have pulled something like this off, especially with Catra. if they really wanted us to believe that Catra felt guilty about her actions, they could have gone a more interesting route. i mentioned this in a previous post but instead of Horde Prime chipping Catra, they could have shown him manipulate her and promise her that she can be absolved of all her sins if she joined him. instead of being all like “teehee i know you have a crush on adora, you gay kitty”, they could have shown him feed on her insecurities and loneliness, and promise her a happier future of she joined him, playing on her need for validation and affection.
and in a moment of desperation, Catra believes him. she has lost everyone at this point, so she accepts what little comfort is offered to her. and then it’s the writers’ choice whether to redeem Catra by having her come to the realization that worshipping a genocidal tyrant with a god complex is actually not going to help her become a better person, and that she was just repressing her guilt and convincing herself that this is the best option; or to have her stay and face a tragic ending of sorts. either way, i think it would have been better than what we got.
i know that Nate apparently struggled with religious trauma and guilt (according to a few posts i saw, at least) and i’m not trying to say that i know his experience better than he does. i just think the execution with Horde Prime was really off, and he was almost like a funny caricature of a cult leader, rather than a representation of an actual cult leader.
