Dangal had Aamir Khan getting back to the big screen after a gap of two years. His last box-office outing, 2014's PK, made history with its box office collection; something which Dangal is on its way to outdo. Dangal is to cross the lifetime business of Salman Khan's 2016 Eid release, Sultan, today. Within two weeks of its release, Dangal is set to become the highest grosser of 2016.

The film, which has Aamir Khan stepping into the shoes of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and tells the story of his journey to make his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari ready to wrestle on the international stage, has received rave reviews from all quarters. Be it critics who didn't know how to write off Dangal, to viewers who have hailed the film to the heavens, Dangal has been called one of the best films of Aamir's career.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal had a story that appealed to a lot of people. The film was released on December 23, and ever since, the box office in both India and abroad has been witness to the money pouring in. The fact that there is no big Bollywood release scheduled for a month after the release of Dangal is also working in its favour.
DANGAL MOVIE REVIEW: Aamir Khan proves why he is the Sultan of great Indian cinema
ALSO SEE: On the sets of Aamir Khan's Dangal in Ludhiana
Worldwide, Dangal has already zoomed past the Rs 400-crore mark.
Aamir went through a range of physical transformation for the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Khan played father to Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra on screen. While Fatima essayed the role of Geeta Phogat, Sanya Malhotra was Babita Kumari in Dangal. Sakshi Tanwar played Mahavir's wife and Aparshakti Khurrana was Geeta and Babita's cousin in Dangal.
With Dangal, Aamir is looking at a film that has the potential to become the highest grossing Hindi movie of all time, a title currently held by his own 2014 film, PK. Khan gave 2016 its biggest film, with the collection expected to soar past the lifetime business of Salman Khan's Sultan. Sultan has earned Rs 306 crore till date. That target looks pretty easy for Dangal to cross given the kind of money the film is earning in even its second week at the box office in India.
