It’s all in the stars—of the astrological kind. Or so it seems. As Race 3, despite the negative buzz and reviews, romps home past Rs 100 crore in 3 days flat in India alone, and Salman Khan gets his 13th consecutive member of the club as leading man (plus two more—Son Of Sardaar and Judwaa 2 in cameos!) and is touted as a Mega-Star, let us look back at his career.

Of those 12 films, Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard (all home productions), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (which he co-produced), Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai were super-hits, while Jai Ho! broke even, Tubelight did not get back investment and Dabangg 2 and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo were hits. All these films released in the 2010 and afterwards phase.

Net result: A smash record indeed in nine years.

But Salman Khan started out in 1988 with a second lead in the average Biwi Ho To Aisi, getting his first solo lead in Maine Pyar Kiya, released in December 1989. And while he gave eight blockbusters 22 to 30 years into his career, he did give huge hits in the earlier phase as well.

Here, then, is the list of 12 Salman Khan blockbusters in the first 21 years:

1. Maine Pyar Kiya-Biggest hit of the entire 1980s.

2. Saajan-Biggest hit of 1991.

3. Hum Aapke Hain Koun!…-Biggest hit of 1994.

4. Karan Arjun-The second biggest hit of 1995. When the film released, Salman Khan had a huge head-start in popularity over co-star Shah Rukh Khan, who had had super-hits only in Baazigar and Darr as anti-hero.

7. Biwi No. 1-The top hit of 1999 saw Salman Khan in the central role as the philandering husband. Though the film was very melodramatic and kitschy, he pulled it off, supported by Karisma Kapur and Sushmita Sen, with Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khanand Tabu in “parallel” roles.

8. Hum Saath Saath Hain-A typically Rajshri production not only in content but its thrifty production, this was the second biggest hit of that year with its ensemble cast. Like any multi-star Dharmendra film, it was essentially top-lined by Salman! It ranked next only to Biwi No. 1 that year.

9. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam-The most celebrated romance of 1999 completed the triad that made Salman rule that year with all its top three hits, a feat that had only one precedent-Amitabh Bachchan with Muqaddar Ka Sikander, Don and Trishul in 1978! It made, in the pre-100 crore days, Rs. 52 crore on a Rs. 16 crore budget!

10. Mujhse Shaadi Karogi-Also starring Akshay Kumar, this 2004 film earned over Rs 55 crore for a Rs. 19 crore budget. This was the third hit Salman got with David Dhawan, with whom he has worked the most in his long career.

11. No Entry-The biggest hit of 2005 remains another cult comedy and has another distinction: it is the only film with an adult theme that appeals even to children with its “universal”, earthy and uproarious humour!

Street Dancer 3D vs Panga box office day 3: Varun-Shraddha’s film has lower weekend than Kalank at Rs 40 cr, Kangana’s film earns Rs 13 cr - bollywood

Street Dancer 3D, starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor as dancers, had a terrific weekend despite releasing alongside Kangana Ranaut’s Panga and facing competition from Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. According to a report on Box Office India, the Remo D’Souza film collected an estimated Rs 16-17 crore on Sunday. This takes its total to around Rs 40.47 crore. The first weekend collections of the film were, however, lesser than the three-day collections of Varun’s last film, Kalank. It had collected Rs 43 crore in its first weekend. The report states Panga collected an estimated Rs 5.50 crore on its first Sunday which takes its total weekend collection to Rs 13.81 crore. The film had opened below expectations at Rs 2.70 crore but showed improvement due to positive word of mouth.Tanhaji continues to hold fort at the box office with extraordinary collections of around Rs 12 crore nett on Sunday. The film now stands at a total of Rs 224.15 crore. It has collected around Rs 26.90 crore in its third weekend, which is reportedly the fourth highest ever after Bahubali - The Conclusion, Dangal and PK. Talking about how Tanhaji could affect the two new releases, film exhibitor Akshay Rathi had told Hindustan Times, “Tanhaji is obviously a factor as it’s doing extremely well and was even declared tax-free in Maharashtra. A huge chunk of its business is coming from the state and can definitely impact the two films. The film tells the story of how Bajrangi (Salman Khan), an ardent devotee of Hindu deity Hanuman, embarks on taking a mute six-year-old Pakistani girl (Harshaali Malhotra), separated in India from her parents, back to her hometown in Pakistan.

The director Khan said that he made this film to talk about "love within people and the fact that borders cannot divide people."

"Bajrangi Bhaijaan," which means "Brother Bajrangi," will be released in China under the title "Little Lolita's Monkey God Uncle." "Monkey God Uncle" refers to the character Bajrangi, who is named after Bajrangbali (Hanuman), the Hindi God who provided the inspiration for the Monkey King character in the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West." "Little Lolita" in Chinese slang often has no sexual connotations, instead only meaning "cute little girl," in reference to the young character played by Malhotra. The Chinese version will also be cut down in length from 159 minutes to 140 minutes.

The worldwide gross of "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" has already been 629 crore (US$98 million) as of 2016, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film ever at the time, behind Rajkumar Hirani's satirical sci-fi comedy film "PK." Now with its upcoming release in China, it may earn a much higher box office haul.

The Chinese film market has provided an unmistakable boost to Indian films' earnings and chart positions. Last year, the booming market shot "Dangal" to the number one spot as the highest-grossing Indian film ever. "Dangal" grossed over US$330 million worldwide, including more than US$204 million in the Chinese market.

Another Indian film, "Secret Superstar," also made 746 million yuan (US$118.28 million) since its release in China earlier this year, which helped the film become the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. India's domestic income for "Secret Superstar" pales in comparing to what it has done in China - by the end of 2017, the film only grossed 89 crore (US$14 million) in India.

Director Kabir Khan is not too surprised by the phenomenon. "India and China have so much in common, " he said, "they are giant Oriental civilizations that has been living next to each other for thousands of years." He said he believes the peoples of the two countries have the same way of looking at emotions, family structures and relationships. "We could find more relevance in China than in other parts of the world, and I'm sure Chinese films will find relevance in India."

The director's next film will be the travel drama "Zookeeper," an Indo-Chinese film production slated for release later this year which will be shot in China's Chengdu city and the surrounding area.

Building on the success of "Dangal" and "Secret Superstar," as well as positive word-of-mouth since 2015, "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" will be getting a wide release in China on March 2. The date coincides with the Lantern Festival that ends China's traditional Spring Festival and Lunar New Year holidays, a time of year when people celebrate family reunions, mirroring the theme of the movie. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal is based on the real-life story of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become world-class wrestlers.

Dangal's story with its themes of patriotism, achievement in sports and women empowerment touched the hearts of one and all.

The performances of Aamir Khan as Mahavir as well as those of Zaira Wasim/Fatima Sana Shaikh as Geeta Phogat and Suhani Bhatnagar/Sanya Malhotra as Babita Kumar have been widely praised.

The pre-release buzz around the film centered on the underdog tale of Mahavir Singh Phogat's struggle as well as the incredible physical transformation that Aamir Khan went through to play Mahavir's character to perfection.

At the beginning of the year, fans and trade pundits were looking forward to the box-office battle between Dangal and Sultan since both were big-ticket films featuring Aamir and Salman respectively and both films centered on the world of wrestling. However, having beaten Sultan who's lifetime domestic collection was only Rs 306 crore, perhaps, it is time to crown Aamir as the new sultan of Bollywood.

Dangal’ box-office collection Day 19: Aamir Khan film crosses 350 cr mark

Aamir Khan is known for creating records at the ticket window and he has done it yet again. Nitesh Tiwari's film 'Dangal' has crossed the 350 crore benchmark in just 19 days of its release. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the news, "#Dangal crosses 350 cr mark... Fri 6.66 cr, Sat 10.80 cr, Sun 14.33 cr, Mon 4.35 cr, Tue 4.03 cr. Total: 353.68 cr. India biz." 'Dangal' has now become the highest grossing film ever to have reached this mark, followed by 'Pk' that grossed 340.8 crore. The top two slots of the highest grosser now belongs to Mr. Perfectionist.
