Cuckoo (2024) – Movie Review (Written – Potential Spoilers) Hunter Schafer stars in what can be described as a slightly different horror movie than what usually comes out State side, even if it follows familiar beats. https://tinyurl.com/28c8x5r8

'Cuckoo' Review: Deformity & Horror in Placidity
Cuckoo is a thrilling and terrifying ride in the horror genre that blends calming visuals with looming dread. The film, written and directed by Tilman Singer, recently had its Montreal premiere at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival. With a stunning cast and a narrative, I could spend days dissecting and analyzing, this entry by Singer has become one of my favorites of 2024.

Plot of 'Cuckoo'
The last thing teenager Gretchen (Hunter Schafer, EUPHORIA) wants is to be taken from her divorced mother’s home in the States and dragged halfway around the world by her father and his new wife. Yet she winds up with Luis (Marton Csokas, THE EQUALIZER), Beth (Jessica Henwick, THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS), and Beth’s mute preteen daughter Alma (Mila Lieu, DODGER) in the Bavarian Alps, where her dad and stepmom are redesigning a local resort. They’re working for Herr König (Dan Stevens, ABIGAIL), an odd bird who initially comes across as friendly, and gives Gretchen a desk job at his hotel. From her first night on the job, however, unsettling things begin to happen to and around her, particularly random attacks by a freakish, screaming woman—yet Gretchen has no idea just how bizarre and dangerous things are going to get. https://youtu.be/sBoPoKL0EQY?si=afMvAsuBFaCrheej
The Nature of Horror in 'Cuckoo'
Cuckoo brought a uniquely modernized aesthetic to the screen, developing a visual love child between A Cure for Wellness and The Shining. The tones and colors kept the energy at a baseline that fluctuated with Gretchen’s experiences. There was a deformity in the stillness and silence within multiple scenes. It became hard to look away, but something consistently tugged at the nerves. Visually, this was a horror film with a familiar aesthetic. It brought comfort through recognition and devoured the looming fear that anything could be around the corner. Moments of purely horrific distortion would arrive with calculated precision that I adore and respect. Yes, it’s odd to utter “adore” when discussing horror. However, with well-done horror films, there’s always a level of adoration for the attention to detail and visual splendor.
Pictured: Hunter Schafer, Credit: Neon The visuals wouldn’t release attention, but neither would the spectacular acting. Stevens gave a bone-chilling performance that offered a seducing sense of comfort amidst the unease. Hunter didn't initially win me over, but she dominated the screen for most of the film. Her performance beautifully portrays the depth of grief and the horror that can add to the loss or questioning of sanity. The story of Cuckoo slowly builds, but it has a focus that it maintains throughout. For some portions of the film, the narrative becomes a tad too complex and builds onto confusing explanations that weren’t necessary. However, the themes in the film are fantastic and explore family trauma, hysteria, reproductive expectations, and autonomy. I had a blast watching this film and it brought out the side of me obsessed with deeper themes regarding gender in horror. Cuckoo takes you on a journey where dots continue to connect in interesting ways. Characters like _ are not just flawed for the sake of being flawed; their trauma and experiences influence their behavior. Grief and trauma can become overdone in horror these days, but this film had a refreshing and cohesive take on it all that allows audiences to take it how they wish to. Cuckoo was a gorgeous emotional gut punch of a horror film, filled expertly with body horror & suspense. I love a fucked-up horror film with kickass sound mixing and music. The film arrives in theaters on August 9th with tickets currently available for pre-order. 'Cuckoo' Review: 5/5 Read the full article

Sire~ Lazar/Frank Imagine
PART l
Summary: Vampire Frank finally meets the man feared by dozens. Kristof Lazar, with intentions to ambush him after killing Abigail and the last remaining survivor. but the plan doesn’t go accordingly when he soon realizes how weak and egoistic his plan was.
Warning: Smut. (till I say otherwise) M/M Dark Romance. (Knowing me; I might come up with something angst along the line)
A/N: This is for FUN! it's been in my head for a while [I SHIP IT] today I got inspired to write it. I'm also writing this till my Favorite story gets updated by my favorite author on AO3, Kristof by Marie_Nola.
CHAPTER 1.
The Plan was in motion after Frank had successfully killed Lambert for backstabbing him. Now, he was going finish the job alone; Kill the last remaining survivor, kill Abigail and her father and take over the whole fucking thing.
Frank sighed, removing his glasses after gaining his new strength of power. Feeling unkillable and alive. He stared down at Joey with seething hatred belly rumbling for blood as he remembered earlier encounters of her publicly shaming him in the pool room.
“I… told you.. not to fuck with me,” Frank growled, slowly gliding his tongue over his brand new set of teeth, reeling to set harm to those who betrayed him.
“Frank,” Joey pleaded, widen eyes, aiming the weapon at him, readying herself for whatever move he was going to make.
“You better fuckin run.”
She ready herself, fixing her stance watching him make the first move, heart hammering in her chest. Till an abrupt child humming began to enter through the threshold, walking with heavy footsteps and a thirst for blood.
“I see you found Lambert,” Abigail slurred, erupting into laughter with her head cocked back in mockery. “Did he try to convince you to take it all but before you killed him?”
She wickedly laughed.“The game ends here and I made sure of that.” She mutters, before sprinting towards the both of them.
Frank catches her unexpectedly, sinking his teeth into her neck and draining her dry before dropping her lifeless body onto the ground. While he was busy with Abigail, Joey got up from the ground and sprinted out the door holding her weapon.
He chased after her down the narrowed hall watching her cry as she struggled to push the door open after leaving a heartbroken voicemail to her son.
She throws a punch. He grabs her fist and kicks the door open with force and throws her across the library- discovering his new ability- He jumps up on the top floor and continues the fight, slamming her fragile body against the glass cabinets filled with leather books and throwing her on a spare table.
After being beaten and weakened to the bone. She groans in aching, crawling to a nearby exit.
He lifts her off the ground with one arm, dangling her over the edge as he threatens her son. She cussed at him. He growls, biting into her neck sucking the warmth from her veins and dropping her lifeless body on the hard cold floor.
Where she remains broken. Abigail strutted back into the library with quiet footsteps, heart pounding against her chest, seeing the dead body of the last remaining survivor on the floor.
She comes to terms realizing she has no help and no one was coming to save her.
Frank sang an unknown tune as he walked down the steep staircase to face the child that started all this and caused nothing but horrific terror amongst the rat pack. Now, she’s facing a new game, a game she has no choice but to confront- a game of survival.
“Well, well, look who came to join the party,” Frank mocked, tilting his head, glaring at the little girl with a row of sharp teeth. “Isn't this fun.”
She smudged, looking at the broken body below her feet as she pulled out her ballet veil. “If you want to kill me, you have to drain me.”
He smirked, rolling his eyes in a cocky manner. “Oh, I’m planning on it.”
She hissed flying towards him with her arms out. He dogged her attack, spinning her around, locking her in a choke hold before bending her neck to drain what remains left of her. She kicked and punched him, but the fight didn’t last exceedingly long as he was much stronger than she was.
He placed her in the chokehold once again and tilted her neck but before he could finish. He heard footsteps, heavy but quiet ones approaching the library.
“Father,” Abigail choked, struggling to breathe, scratching through the fabric of the arm that’s choking her.
Frank Smirked, Snapping Abigail's neck. She healed in a second but remained glued to the floor due to the weakness of her body almost being drained completely. She No longer had the strength to stand up, so she watched from the floor.
Frank stood up facing the door, leaving Abigail to be as he hid behind one of the poles by the door. He was finally going to see the man they had been trying to expose all of these years face-to-face and Kill him.
He smiled to himself as he heard Lazar approached inside the library. He sprinted from his hiding space and attacked Lazar with confidence. To his unexpected surprise lazer was quicker, faster and stronger, catching frank in midswing and throwing him onto the ground like a lifeless puppet.
He held Frank in a chokehold, arms wrapped around his neck with great strength, tilting his neck for a bite and until Frank pleaded in his queen's accent.
“Wait, wait, huh..” Frank stuttered, wiggling his neck out of his hold, after his plan had failed.
He was pressed up against Lazar's lean muscled body, almost buried in his trench coat as he was placed between Lazar's legs. He could feel his cold lips touching the tip of his ear, feeling the heat of his breath brush against his cheek as Lazar held him in place with his arm folded around his neck, crushing his windpipe, slowly.
Lazar stared down at Frank with those diamond eyes and a cold facial expression waiting to hear what this new vampire had to say before killing him instantly as he loosened his grip.
“I could help you..”
Lazar laughed, erupting with a deep unnerving mockery, baring his teeth. “AND What Could you do to possibly help me?”
“Your business, I could help you with your business,” Frank pleaded, through gritted teeth, struggling to breathe against Lazar's hold.
A smirk tugged at the corner of lazar’s lips as he considered his words. He fixed his gaze on his daughter as she laid there watching the both of them with a weakened body as he read her mind.
“Now, Why would I let a parasite like you come anywhere near my empire, again,” Lazar threatened, crushing him tightly, eyeing Frank with those big pale eyes as he dug through the corner of his eye socket with his long slender finger.
“Please.. Please,” Frank begged, squinting his eyes from the pain His creator inflicted, feeling aroused by his touch. “I could really be useful to you."
Lazar’s eyes darkened with a mixture of desire and intrigue as he comb through Frank's hair, caressing his face playfully with another idea forming in his mind.
“Isn’t that so?”
“Yes, yes. I could do anything if you just let me live.”
He smirked, licking Frank's ear, breathing in his scent as he growled inhuman. eyes beaming brightly at this lustful entertainment that was turning him on- making his hardened shaft pressed up against the fabric of his pants.
“Hm... well, I always wanted a Pet,” He growled deeply, teasingly nipping at the tip of his ear, tugging his hair back to meet his begging gaze.
Frank groaned as he struggled to overpower lazar, clawing at his arm, pushing him away but the ancient vampire was far to strong to throw over the shoulder.
"Goodnight, my little pest."
