i'm a bit of a balatro nerd, so here's some notes on dan's screencap in his insta story

if you haven't played before, balatro is poker in its most core mechanics, with single-player roguelike (so you lose a lot and build from playing a lot) deck building (what it sounds like, you build your deck) mechanics to make poker Bigger. you can do some weird and wild things with it, but at its base, you're playing flushes and straights and pairs and trying to score chips.

if you want to see it in action, markiplier has a good video that seems like it'll be first in a series.

in balatro, you get a base level of hands per round depending on your deck/add-ons like vouchers or jokers. for checkered deck, which dan is playing, it's 4 hands/3 discards, so you have four hands to try to get enough chips to get to the next round. there are three rounds per ante, and the regular game ends at ante 8. you can also skip rounds to get stuff.

which is the long version of saying: dan has gotten to endless mode, which means he's beat the regular part of the game and is shooting for a ludicrously high score. he has to get 47 billion chips to win this round and get to the next one. for comparison, round 1 in ante 1 on white stake difficulty (which is the one dan's playing in) needs 300 chips to advance.

also for comparison: i have hundreds of hours on this game and i haven't cracked the 100 million chips achievement on steam

he's doing a flush build (which makes sense for checkered deck; it only has hearts and spades, unlike the normal four suits) and his flush is leveled to 24, which is really good/necessary to get this late in the game. he has a lot of money, he used all his discards for the round, and he has a bunch of face cards with modifications on them. it's good strategy just looking at this much, basically

and then all the jokers he has up top make this REALLY impressive. in order from left to right

gluttonous joker: played clubs get +3 multiplier. odd one for checkered deck (no clubs to start with) but a) maybe he added some and b) even if he didn't, it's a negative card, so it's not taking up room that any other joker could use. (for this set of circumstances, base slots for jokers would be five.)

sock and buskin: retrigger all played face cards, which means all the cards dan is playing in this hand will score a second time. two of his face cards have red seals, which means they'd play a third time, one of those red seals is a glass card that'll give him a higher multiplier...i could keep going, but doing a face-card flush build is a good way to score big.

photograph: first played face card gives x2 multiplier when scored. again, another great joker for a face-card build.

blueprint: copies the joker to the right. GREAT card if you have good jokers. it also has holographic, which means it add a +10 multiplier as well.

triboulet: highest tier of joker (legendary) where kings and queens give x2 multiplier when played. but imagine it twice, since he has blueprint as well.

the tribe: x2 multiplier if hand contains a flush. and he's obviously doing a flush build.

to add to all of this, his order is really good because the cards play left to right. times multipliers stack on each other, and since chips get exponential, you need that to really get anywhere.

tl;dr - while some of this is luck (the store doesn't always sell jokers this good at the right time), dan is good at balatro.

Something silly with big eater / trainer Reader (same one as before):

Quite a lot of the folks on Amphoreus having the same kind of mindset when they see Reader and thinking, “Oh they must be a rather gluttonous sloth,” up until Hyacine and Phainon (out of concern for Reader’s health, similar to Ratio) ask Reader to join them on a morning jog and Reader perks up like 🤩 and changes into their gym attire which is basically sweatpants and cropped hoodie exposing their abs, and shocking everyone with their lean but toned build. Dan Heng and the Trailblazer are very afraid for Hyacine and Phainon.

Meanwhile, the Kremnoans start paying attention like: 🤯😳🫣👀🤩😍😏😎😘 “Hello, beautiful, are you single~?” Coming from a nation that worships a war deity and would most likely value strength, they would probably find Reader checking off all the boxes of what might be typically attractive to them. The only reason almost none of them have made a move is because even they have trouble keeping up with Reader.

And, it’s no surprise that Mydei is the only one of them to keep up with Reader, and actually the first one to keep up without breaking much of a sweat.

As for Hyacine and Phainon, they were found almost dead in the baths after they finished training with Reader. 😅🫡

This is exactly the kind of chaos I love.

Hyacine and Phainon start off with good intentions, thinking they’re about to help Reader with their “bad habits,” only to instantly regret it when they realize Reader is a hyper-athletic powerhouse who just happens to eat a lot (sounds like my oc ahem). Meanwhile, the Trailblazer and Dan Heng—the only two who actually knew—are just watching in horrified amusement because they already saw this coming (THEY'VE PLAYED THESE GAMES BEFORE 🗣️‼️).

The real kicker? Amphoreus natives losing their minds. They go from judging Reader to absolutely thirsting after them once they see how strong and disciplined they actually are. A nation that worships war and strength? Yeah, Reader just catapulted to peak desirability overnight.

And then there’s Mydei. Of course, he’s the only one who can keep up, and he does it effortlessly. The mutual respect between him and Reader would be insane, and you know people are gonna start shipping them immediately.

Meanwhile, poor Hyacine and Phainon are just floating in the baths like exhausted corpses, completely dead inside. They tried. They really did. But they were not built for this.

The sins are back, and Danny feels obligated to keep what happened last time from happening again. At least he has the Champion of Magic to assist this time.

Disclaimer: I know that the Shazam comics have the sins as a regular rogue, but not what they do or how they are portrayed. Just woke up from a weird dream, and this prompt hit me like a truck.

Maddie Fenton - Pride

Pretty self-explanatory, Maddie was always proud of what she did, even when it obviously was detrimental to others.

Jack Fenton - Sloth / Pride

Jack could be either, another half of Maddie or as Sloth. Sloth in the way all of the inventions either never worked or never worked right. He never took the time to make anything correctly or safely. By taking shortcuts or planning just enough to make it functional (and most of the time, not even that) makes me feel Sloth would work for him.

Vlad - Envy

This one is also pretty self-explanatory, he envies the Fentons for having what he does not. We have all seen the extremes he wnt to for that. *side eyes Dan and Dani*

Sam - Greed

Sam wants to be needed, noticed, and validated. She got Danny killed for a picture and did it again when she wished for her not to know them and realised she was a 'nobody' without Danny. For all she is against corporate greed, greed does not always mean monetary wealth. She is greedy for any attention and has gone to extreme lengths to gain it.

Jazz - Gluttony

Jazz, much like Sam, wants validation and attention, but her way is more wanting to feast on family ties. She craves for any attention she can garner from her parents and Danny. I feel the saying "A glutton for punishment" fits Jazz a little too well for her to not be an aspect of gluttony. Gluttony does not always mean food.

Dani - Lust

LUST DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN SEX.

Now that the PSA is out of the way, Dani is defined by the word Wonderlust. She lusts after the life she never got to live, and is willing to leave the people who helped her to chase that dream.

Dan - Wrath

I feel this one is also pretty self-explanatory. Dan destroyed the entire planet in his rage. If that isn't the textbook definition, then I will eat my hat.

Now, I know I left Tucker and Valerie out of the list, but if I had to replace or choose a sin for each:

Tucker - Sloth / Pride

Tucker does good and is helpful, but he is rarely the one spearheading anything. He usually has to have either Danny or Sam push him into action, and even then, it is met with grumbled annoyance. I feel like Jack is a better Sloth.

Tucker has his vision of himself and isn't afraid to show it, even if it makes others uncomfortable. A lot of times where Tucker instigates a problem, it's because he is overconfident in his vision, and being a reincarnation did not help with that. Yet, again this feels a little weak compared to Maddie, but I don't feel like Tucker would represent any other sins to detrimental levels.

Valerie - Pride / Wrath

Valerie, before and after she became the Red Huntress, had always been prideful. To the point where after she fell off the A-lister pedestal, she hunted down the one responsible with extreme prejudice. She would kill for that back and went to the extreme to do so. As with Tucker, I don't feel like Valerie truly fits like the others above.

The Curious Case of 'Ninjaboys: Quest for the Cosmic Front'

Note: I’m not an industry insider. Some of the information is purely speculative and may not be fully accurate to what goes on behind closed doors, since specific licensing and distribution information isn't made public.

On February 11, 2016, a collaboration spin-off series between Nintama Rantaro and Cosmic Front NEXT, entitled Nintama Rantaro no Uchuu Daibouken with Cosmic Front NEXT (忍たま乱太郎の宇宙大冒険 with コズミックフロント☆NEXT, "Nintama Rantaro's Great Space Adventure with Cosmic Front NEXT"), premiered on NHK General TV in Japan with the episode, “Taiyoukei no Otomodachi no Dan” (太陽系のお友だちの段, “The ‘Friends in the Solar System’ Stage”). New episodes air sporadically with the latest one, "Hayabusa 2 Shouwakusei de Mission! No Dan" (はやぶさ2 小惑星でミッション！の段, "The 'Hayabusa 2 Asteroid Mission!' Stage), on NHK Educational TV on March 18, 2020. The series consists of self-contained episodes centered around the main characters of Nintama (Rantaro, Kirimaru, and Shinbei) learning about space through strange and colorful characters, such as the Moon Rabbit. 

Nintama Rantaro is a kids and family ninja comedy anime that has aired on NHK since April 1993. Based on the Rakudai Ninja Rantaro manga by Soubei Amako, it's about an ensemble cast of ninjas at the Ninjutsu Academy. Rantaro, the bespectacled protagonist and audience surrogate, is a 10-year-old boy who attends the school to become an elite ninja like his parents. He is mainly joined by money-hungry Kirimaru and gluttonous Shinbei in misadventures around the school and occasional outside missions. 

Cosmic Front NEXT is a scientific series dealing with the topics of space, astronomy, debunking myths, and answering questions related to the galaxy. Running on NHK from 2015 to 2020, it's a revamp of Cosmic Front ~Hakken! Kyoui no Daiuchuu! (コズミック　フロント～発見！驚異の大宇宙, "Cosmic Front ~Discover the Amazing Universe!") which ran from 2011 to 2014.

On July 17, 2017, Anime News Network reported that William Winckler Productions had recorded 2 English-dubbed pilot episodes of the spin-off, under the new title, Ninjaboys: Quest for the Cosmic Front. “Ninjaboys” comes from the regular series’ official English title, Ninjaboy Rantaro. WOWMAX Next was in charge of marketing and distributing the pilots to potential distribution platforms for release. The English dub cast consists of Elyse Bertani as Rantaro, Kelsey Kummerl as Shinbei, Kory Getman as Kirimaru, Frank Garish as Yamada, and Paul Stanko as Doi and the Moon Rabbit. 

On July 29 that same year, Old Clapperboard Productions uploaded a behind-the-scenes video on YouTube, offering a glimpse into William Winckler’s role in the ADR dubbing process. The video showcases his guidance of the voice actors’ performances, along with a brief look at the dub script. Viewers are treated to hearing the English voices of the characters– a rare opportunity, considering that Nintama has yet to receive an official release in the Anglosphere. As of 2025, this video remains the only available footage of the dub online. 

Was Quest for the Cosmic Front ever licensed? Yes…but not in the way you might expect. While most anime is licensed by major media companies like Crunchyroll, Netflix, Viz Media, and Discotek Media, it remains unclear if the pilots were ever solicited to these outlets. Based on the international publicity surrounding film festivals and science-focused distribution (e.g. planetariums), it’s highly likely that NHK and WOWMAX Next prioritized Quest for the Cosmic Front as an educational series rather than a commercial one. It was likely intended for a very specific market–festivals, schools, museums, and planetariums–where educational content takes precedence over entertainment. This aligns with how it’s marketed in Japan and NHK’s broader mission to promote educational programming and cultural preservation. 

K2 Studios acquired non-exclusive territory/rights restrictions to Quest for the Cosmic Front, meaning they could distribute the series under specific conditions but were not the sole distributor and were limited to certain regions or platforms. The studio specializes in producing and distributing science-focused content to specialty venues worldwide (e.g. fulldome), which could explain why they pursued the series. While there’s no confirmation online, it’s possible that the dubbed episodes were released in regions with large Japanese populations, such as Southern California and Hawaii. These areas have historically received niche Japanese content that doesn’t see a wide release elsewhere, or at least not for a long time (e.g. KIKU TV’s subtitled broadcasts of Crayon Shin-chan and the 1985 GeGeGe no Kitaro series). It appears the studio no longer holds the rights, as the series is no longer listed in their updated catalog.

It’s unfortunate that the English dub of Quest for the Cosmic Front has not received a wide release. If it had been released on platforms like NHK World or Netflix, it could have marked Nintama’s official English debut in the West. However, considering that these were just pilots–many of which never go beyond that stage–it's clear that they were likely intended for educational distribution rather than a large-scale rollout of the Nintama series. All we can do at this point is hope that NHK will consider expanding the series to Western markets in the future, whether with select episodes from the regular TV series or another entry. Who knows, they may already be planning it.

I am sorry to say that when it comes to royal reporters almost none can be trusted, as they all have personal agendas. When i first made him he was red, but when i got ahold of a pink paintbrush in the game he became a pink bastard to reflect that

2. Newest OC: Tiberius is my newest OC. Tiberius is a human cleric that is a total glutton he hides his weight with a magic cloak, that compresses his nearly 500 lbs into a manageable 150lbs to keep his gluttony a secret. If you asked him if he was fat, he would scoff and deny it, but in secret he's gorging himself on anything he can get his hands on. He encompasses like a lot of my fetishes into one

Translation comparison:

English version uses the term imbibitor lunae(?). Which feels classy and kind of grandiose. "Imbibe" on its own is a pretty neutral term. But it's the second part that makes the term sound almost like a RPG boss name, as moons aren't meant to be consumed. It took me a moment to get it ngl.

Russian version uses a more straightforward пожиратель луны/eater of the moon. Жрать/to eat (rather gluttonously) isn't necessarily a polite verb to use to refer to someone eating. So, to use "eater" with this root carries stronger connotations up front than using "imbibe" as the root imo. It's also root for обжора, the term for glutton. In short, if English version feels like intimidation once you realize what exactly was eaten, Russian version is more "common language" and also slides in a hint of dislike for the subject. Which makes thematic sense with the vilification arc.

Definitely curious about other translations' takes and how the CN version handled this btw!

Skip forward, legendary bladers are dead, including Yuki, the world can't be saved.

Ryuto was the last person alive from the 1st world.

Fic idea: Honkai: Star Rail & Seven Deadly Sins Crossover.

Hear me out.

(Astral) Sin of Sloth: Welt Yang. Accused of inaction, for being unable to save his nation from disaster by Honkai.

(Abyssal) Sin of Greed: Dan Heng. Seeking immortality. I don’t think I need to say more. (It lines up surprisingly well.)

(Glacial) Sin of Envy: March 7th. Said to have been envious of her mentor, stole their technique of six-phased ice, but later got imprisoned in ice/lost her memory.

(Radiant) Sin of Wrath: Stelle/Caelus. Was a human experiment and got a Stelleron implanted in her. When her power awakened, she destroyed an entire city in wrath.

(Molten) Sin of Lust: Himeko. Resorted to illicit methods (never went through) in order to save her city. Framed as a prostitute who killed a benevolent “liberator”. (Didn’t have much to go off of on this one, sorry.)

(Necrotic) Sin of Gluttony: Blade. (?) Glutton for revenge/death. (Again, not much to go off of, sorry.)

(Lunar) Sin of Pride: Kafka. (?) She literally says she doesn’t feel fear, she instills it in others. If that’s not pride I don’t know what is.

Look, finding seven people from Star Rail is pretty difficult.

My current idea is that like in the anime/manga, the Seven Deadly Sins disbanded due to being framed for the death of the Captain of the Holy Knights (Akivili?). Then Kafka and Blade go off and join the Stellaron Hunters, and Blade’s past with Dan Heng comes to light? I suppose?
