The Other Art Fair
Tumblr media
So a little over a week ago, the OJT office were sent an invite to The Other Art Fair in Shoreditch.  To be honest, we didn’t know much about it at all but we looked it up and liked the look of it.  It’s the 10th edition of the fair and it does a great job showcasing emerging artists.  We accepted the invite as quickly as we could and come the Sunday, it was back down to the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch, the same place as the Superbrands event a few weeks ago (read about that here)

You walk into the venue up a staircase bathed in a green glow under a ceiling of balloons into the main hall that was filled with artists showcasing their work.

The place was pretty full and was really warm!  Not sure if it was down to all the people or if they just had the heating up really high but you probably are less interested in the temperature of the event and would rather see some art so here you are:

A couple of really nice pieces by Steve McGinn.

The work of Ryan Callanan. You can probably imagine our reaction when we turned the corner and saw a life sized stormtrooper.  There was a lot of Star Wars inspired art in the fair which we definitely approved of.

A print by Zoe Moss.

This was one of EE’s favourite pieces of the day.  In fact, at one point, it came pretty close to coming with us and being put up on the wall of the OJT office!

There were quite a few Banksy inspired pieces but the Elsa £20 note with the slightly suspicious white powder on her hand by Sara Sammakia was one of my favourites.

Some Doctor Who and more Star Wars inspired works by Barry Bulsara.

A few of the other pieces we liked around the fair.

The pieces above are all by a guy called Damilola Odusote.  We loved the 3d-ness of his work and the use of the canvass itself to make the pieces seem more interactive.  We’re definitely going to keep an eye out for more of his stuff as we like his style.

This is the work of a guy called Tom Lewis.  As you may know, we are pretty big fans of anime / Japan inspired cartoons, cute stuff and cool art and this guy hits pretty much all of those sweet spots.  We actually had a nice conversation with the guy and he has very kindly agreed to give us an interview so check out his site in the meantime to get a feel of his very cool work and check back for his interview which should be coming up soon!
Overall, we had a great time at The Other Art Fair and will look forward to hopefully going to more in the future.  There is clearly some great art talent emerging in London and that can only be a good thing!
Cheers, JL
