Formula 3 to host second test for four female racers at Magny-Cours | Formula 3
The FIA Formula 3 Championship is organising another private test for female drivers, at the Magny-Cours circuit in France. Four new names have been invited and each will get a full day in the Dallara F3 2019 car. Two drivers will take to the track on September 16 and the other two the following day. Hamda Al Qubaisi races in Formula Regional’s Asian and European championships while Tereza Babickova, Chloe Chambers and Alpine Academy affiliate Abbi Pulling [pictured] all compete in W Series. Pulling has taken a pole and three podiums in W Series, as well as seven podiums in British Formula 4 before that. Al Qubaisi is a six-times race winner in F4 United Arab Emirates. Chambers competed in United States F4 last year, and Babickova has graduated to Formula Regional straight from karts. “It’s very important to us to ensure that more and more female drivers join our championship,” said FIA F3’s CEO Bruno Michel. “Diversity is one of our key discussions regarding the future of motorsport. “We initiated these dedicated F3 tests last year, with Nerea Marti, Doriane Pin, Irina Sidorkova and Maya Weug, who all said how beneficial this one-day test had been to their understanding of the demands of our championship. We selected four new drivers for this year, as we follow closely not only the W Series, but also female drivers in other categories. “The purpose of this test is not to compare their performance, but it is an opportunity for them to understand what is required from an F3 driver from every aspect, so that they can prepare for the challenges when they progress to our championship, hopefully in the near future.” Al Qubaisi said she “aspires to drive in this championship next season if all goes well”. Babickova, who made her debut in car racing this year, said: “I’m still a rookie formula driver, so for me, this invitation to the FIA F3 test is a recognition of my training and racing commitment so far, and it’s a great motivation for the future”. The Corner, Milan Building
The Corner, Milan Design, Mies van der Rohe Award 2022 Nominee, Architecture, Italian Building Images
The Corner, Mies van der Rohe Award 2022 Nominee,
10 Feb 2021
The Corner
Design: Atelier (s) Alfonso Femia
Location: Milan, Italy
The Corner by Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia selected for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022
Candidates for the 2022 Mies van der Rohe Award of the European Union for Contemporary Architecture have been announced: representing Italy, among the nominees, “The Corner” signed by Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia.
The official list, presented by the European Commission with the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, for the 2022 award – named after the master of the Modern Movement – shows the best architectural projects in the old continent and includes 449 works from 41 countries. Among the 18 Italians selected, ‘The Corner’ by Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia appears in the Office Building category. Redevelopment project of the Generali Real Estate building located in Milan, on the corner of Viale della Liberazione and Viale Melchiorre Gioia.
The different facades act as a distinctive element strongly characterizing the entire structure, and the urban area in which it is located, an object of profound and radical change in recent years.
This is what architect Alfonso Femia, founder of the studio with offices in Milan, Paris, and Genoa, tells us about the project: “We meet a building in an urban area where everything has changed over time. A sentinel on the border between industrial settlements, infrastructures, and the beginning of the urban city, with an immediate, strong, almost alienating change of scale and perception. The city was the background, and the building the threshold to enter the metropolitan area of Milan from the northwest. At the limits of that threshold, a new, contemporary urban centrality was created and is in continuous development.
Today the building is almost at the center of that transformation, it remains consistent with it, and at the same time it stays faithful to its role as a “presence/preexistence”. It interacts with the changing surroundings and reaffirms its precise urban and architectural identity. The Corner derives its name from its founding design idea: the corner of a building tells the story of the city and speaks with a different voice for each facade. The Corner dialogues with the light of Milan, with its sky, with its compressed and expanded perspectives, with its new horizons”.
The nominated works for the Mies van der Rohe Award starting from 1988, constitute the most complete archive on contemporary architecture in Europe, unique for the accurate selection of projects, analyzed and chosen by a jury of architects, critics, journalists, and curators. Jehan On Pole At Monza – Creates History Becoming First Indian On Pole In The FIA Formula 3 European Championship
Jehan Daruvala (IND), Carlin Dallara F317 Volkswagen
Indian Racing Star, Jehan Daruvala created history by becoming the first ever Indian on pole in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 18-year old’s feat comes over 16 years after Narain Karthikeyan was on pole in Macau after completing the erstwhile British F3 Championship.
The thrilling qualifying session for Round 2 of the Championship at the Grand Prix Circuit of Monza saw British racer Callum Illot on top of the time sheet as the chequered flag fell. Jehan was still out on the track and yet to complete his flying lap around the 5.793km iconic Formula 1 circuit where average speeds are near the 200km/hr mark and top speed is 255 km/hr! Jehan put in a near perfect lap to claim his maiden pole position in F3 in only his second event! Jehan’s lap time of 1:44.105s was a mere three-hundredths of a second ahead of his Carlin team-mate – Lando Norris.
The ultra high competitiveness of the series can be gauged from the fact that the top 3 racers were within a tenth of a second and the top six, within less than half a second! Formula 3 is considered one of the most crucial steps en route to Formula 1 with numerous racers moving from F3 to F1 directly with Max Verstappen being the most recent notable example. Numerous F1 World Champions like Lewis Hamilton, Sebastein Vettel, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and much more, proved their capabilities in F3 before moving on to F1.
Earlier in the weekend, Jehan showed his pace on a track that he certainly seems to love. He was sixth and third in the 2 practice sessions of the weekend. Jehan will start on pole (first) for race 1 whereas an additional qualifying session after race 1 will decide the grid for races 2 and 3.
“I like this track a lot. This is where I had my first pole in the Formula Renault. The car felt good and we made a few changes after practice which worked well. Importantly I got a good slipstream and also ensured that I took no risks, once I saw I had a good time on my last lap” said the elated Sahara Force India Academy racer.
Jehan’s rookie year in F3 got off to a solid start in the previous weekend at Silverstone where the multiple Indian and Asian Karting Champion earned himself two rookie podiums. Jehan continues to put India on the world motorsport map after he became the first Indian to win a Grand Prix. He achieved this feat winning the season finale of the Toyota Racing Season. Jehan remains the only Indian to have ever stood on the podium of any FIA World Championship when he finished 2nd runner-up in the World Karting Championship.

Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia participates in “Casa Platform”, an event conceived and coordinated by the Platform magazine that takes place at the Scuola Grande Di Santa Maria Della Misericordia, Venice, Italy, from May 22nd to August 20th, 2021.
More specifically, Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia exhibits in the context of the exhibition “Best Italian Interior Design Selection” and is present in the volume that collects the selected projects.
Alfonso Femia also participates in the Platform Architecture Festival with a lecture to be held on July 14th, 2021.
ON DISPLAY
The studio exhibits the project for the new Vimar logistics and production hub in Marostica.
Vimar is a historic company that is strongly established in the area. It has been producing plates, switches and systems for managing electrical energy since 1945.
The landscape is typically Venetian, with the hills and the plateau, the crenellated towers that mark the sequence of the walls. The new complex in Marostica is located along one of the main access routes to the city. It is divided into three main functional areas: the finished product warehouse, the semi-finished warehouse and the production. These areas are then flanked by a pole for the technological centers, offices and services.
“Light” is the theme of the company, of its “new” home and warehouses.
The warehouses and related areas (technological center and mezzanine for laboratories and offices) are gathered in a single building. The mezzanine, which faces south and houses offices and laboratories, enjoys the light transferred from the large floor-to-ceiling windows.
The warehouse, with its 10 meters height, is illuminated by a zenith light that mixes with the one from the mezzanine. The production, offices and services (canteens and meeting rooms) are gathered in another two-storey building.
The project dialogue with the green surroundings through the insertion of large patios, real hanging gardens that function as a prelude, to transmit air and light inside.
Interior layout and design, on which the exhibition focuses, realize the intention of creating an ecology of the workspace aimed at micro-environmental comfort and psychological and emotional well-being, mediating the technical needs, both in the portions dedicated to deposits, both in the part of the offices.
