@sunsetmog & i have gone deep into the sugar baby daniel rabbit hole so here's max trying to upgrade dan to full time sugar baby. it helped me feel better on my dreadful monday so y'all should have it as well <33 (read hers first)
Max is already out of bed when Daniel gets up. He's exhausted and heavy and sore. He feels like he could sleep another eight hours. Max would let him. But he has to go back to work tomorrow and he's not going to see Max for weeks and weeks after that. He's not in bed and Daniel misses him already, right now.
He wanders out into the kitchen. Max is perched at the breakfast bar, eating cereal and watching something on his phone, which is propped up on a book. Daniel keeps telling him to just put a TV in here, so he can stop sitting hunched over like a gremlin, but Max is hard to make do things if they're not for other people.
"Hey," he says, and watches Max's features soften when he looks up.
Max struggles getting off his barstool, all stuck to it, in a rush to see him after probably, like, an hour. They're so embarrassing. He's so in love it hurts.
"Baby," Max says, sounding wounded. He touches Daniel's cheek, frowning like something's not where he left it. "You look so tired."
"That's alright." Daniel likes that Max notices him. He just– doesn't like that look on his face. "Am I still pretty, then?"
"Don't be stupid. You are of course very gorgeous and handsome." Max is still scrutinizing him. "But you are here all weekend and still tired."
"Yeah, well. I'm kind of in a deficit. I'm just. Gonna." Daniel brushes his hand off, not harshly, stepping around Max to pick out a mug and go for a latte.
He likes this new espresso machine. He's seen on the package delivery app from his apartment complex that Max got him one for his place – he's going to pretend to be surprised when he gets back.
Max is still hovering. Daniel lets him chew on whatever's bothering him. He rummages for sugar and debates between the four kinds of non-dairy milk Max got for him without turning to look.
"Are you alright?" Max asks, finally, as he's pouring milk into the frother.
"We established that I'm tired, Max. It's okay. Maybe I'll nap later."
Max wraps both arms around him from behind, forehead against the back of his neck. "I think maybe it's not going away," he says.
He can't cry, but he wants to. Max has never been with him during a bad spell. But he'd warned him. I won't want to do anything. I might need you to be a bit mean to get me to eat or shower. I'll be tired but sleep won't fix it.
"I'm just working too much." It sounds stupid.
Max says what Daniel's thinking. "It can be both." He pulls away. It doesn't sound like he's going to push it. "Can you show me how to do the coffee? So I can do it for you."
He breathes out. "Yeah, okay."
&&&
Max is skipping his training routine, and he doesn't say why.
He stays in with Daniel on the couch, and they watch It's Always Sunny, which Daniel can't believe Max has never seen and makes him nearly choke on his Red Bull.
It's good. He feels a little better after his coffee. They're good.
Max has been tracing loops on his thigh for awhile. He thinks one was a love heart. It means Max is thinking.
Dennis is about to tell the gang he's leaving, and it's important, but Max pauses the TV. He says, "Don't go back to work tomorrow."
"What?" He's out of PTO. Max knows that. They've gone over it ten times. "You know I can't–"
"Don't go back. Tomorrow or– don't go back. You don't have to. You don't have to worry about money. This is stupid." Max squeezes Daniel's thigh, urgent, which is about the only thing keeping his head from spinning off. "This is going to make you unwell and I don't want– there is no point when I can take care of it."

Ghosts in Love
-> Suna Rintaro x Reader
Chapter 1: In the Meat and Dairy Isle

Summary: Amidst shared streets and familiar alleys, chance encounters with your ex at grocery stores or parks evolve into shopping together and sharing park benches.
Loosely inspired by the poem "Ghosts in Love" by Carl Sandburg
Chapter Warning: exes, domestic angst lmao
Words: 1k words
Taglist: Open
Read on AO3 | Series Masterlist
You and Suna Rintaro have purchased tickets for a concert that is almost a year away.
Neither of you have canceled the booking for those tickets. Neither of you have tried to sell it off. It just lies there in the pile of your dusty emails. No attempt is made to delete it. You just let it make a home there, catching dust until you decide to reopen and read it again. And again.
It’s been 7 months since the two of you have broken up and you're wondering if you really need to get rid of them. You only mean, things have significantly mellowed down to a point where you go grocery shopping together, in a manner of speaking.
You still live in the same neighbourhood as him, so days of running into him at the grocery store, the park, or the laundromat have turned into days of shopping together, sharing a park bench, or using the same washing machine if there’s room. Cheaper that way, the two of you reason out.
So you've decided to bring it up at your next weekly run-in.
Except, you don’t see him all week. Or the week after that.
It’s odd but you don’t ruminate, you don’t have the time to. It’s the end of the month and you have deadlines that keep swamping up all over your calendar. And you also have a company ball to prepare for.
"Hey," he says, bopping your cold nose. You think that must have been instinct, because he brings his hand back down almost immediately at the touch. Like it stung to you, or that he's simply repulsed.
But you see him again, on a gloomy day. It’s raining on and off and everything is sticky. You’re sweating but you’re also cold as you stand opposite him in the meat and dairy aisle of the grocery store. His hair has grown a little, and it cascades across his face like a flood of dark water.
Your gaze is now drawn to the yogurt section as you look for the brand you usually use. A soft pink package. He lingers behind you through this, and you’re conscious of his movements. You wonder if he can see right through you, but it's a thought that only lasts for a split moment. He never really did understand you that well, you think.
"Haven't seen you in a while," you remark glibly as you toss a can of milk into your basket.
But it's a lot more intense in your head, and you find that your defences are back up. Why? You aren't sure, but you strongly believe that you will find out today.
“Yeah,” he says. You wait for a moment until you realize he isn’t going to explain himself. He doesn't have to after all.
“How have you been?” you try to change the topic.
“Fine, a bit restless. We haven’t had practices for a while,” he says. You proceed to basket the yogurt, along with some cheese.
You’re both sitting in a park now, just about to part ways before he says, “I went on a date.”
You hum in response.
—
The evening passes by as the two of you slip into the inevitable flow of a conversation.
You’re finally grateful you braced yourself for the inevitable.
You can’t say it doesn’t hurt, but it only hurts like a sting, rather than a typhoon. Right now, you’re too muddled with questions. Questions you don’t have the right to ask.
You don’t say anything.
A beat later, you ask, “Why are you telling me this?”
“I–I really don’t know actually,” he chuckles, and for the very first time, you hate it.
You hate the way his cheeks hollow into soft undefined dimples, you hate the crinkle at the edge of his eyes, and most of all you think you hate him in this moment.
“What?” It comes out before you can stop it, and nurture it into something more mellow — but right now, your anger seeps through your mouth and spits onto his face.
“Okay. Um, I really did need to leave so,” you say, and with a swoop you push yourself up.
This time you move quicker, walking away to leave but he stops you. His hand comes up to clutch your wrist. It's not tight enough for you to not walk away but you stop.
“I’m sorry,” he says and he seems genuine, which makes you hate him even more.
“It’s okay, Rin.” You say, because you could nurture your anger into something different. You’re definitely not okay, but you can pretend you think. For a bit, until you no longer have to pretend.
“Please, ca—just sit with me.” He says, and the wind blows, sending a chill down your back but you sit down anyway because you’ve never truly been good at telling him no. Not when it mattered, at least.
“Thank you,” he mutters.
You don’t speak for the rest of the time. The two of you just sit there, and your anger dies and it dies, and you almost forget about all of it, because this is nice right?
This is comfortable and familiar, and it makes you wish you could turn time back, at least in your head. But it’s abruptly met with a stop, when he speaks again, “It was bad.”
“I figured,” you say.
You hum, urging him to continue. Reluctant but ready.
“The date, I mean," he elaborates.
“I don’t think I’m over you yet,” he says. “It’s killing me just a bit, I think.” He tries to soften the sentence with a chuckle.
“I think that would kill me more,” he says soft as a whisper, you could barely hear it. It almost made you assume it was just the wind playing tricks on you.
“Want me to change neighbourhoods so you can move on then?”
Your words come out sounding a bit condescending but you have a soft edge to your voice, a lilt of humour if you will, like it’s amusing that you would ever do something like this for him. Would you?
“Anyway, it should be you if one of us is moving,” you say.
“Well, I was here first. It’s only fair,” you say, firmly.
“Me? No way,” he says, his pitch rising. “It’s closer to practice, and the home office."
He doesn’t say anything for a bit. You were here first, you were more in tune with this area than he was. Most of his favourite things about this neighbourhood are borrowed, he realizes. They're all yours.
At that, he feels a bit empty, “That’s actually fair.” He adds, “I’d rather neither of us have to move. I’d rather us be friends.”
“Me too, Rin.” You smile at him.
Only you can’t help but think about how it sounds like a distant fantasy, reminiscent of dream-addled childhood dreams where you thought of driving yourself across the country. You reassure yourself because you can drive now at least.

Do you have personal rankings for Japanese canned coffees? (Inspired by your non-alcoholic drink hands post)
Oooh you always have such good questions :D Thank you!
Far and away, number one with a bullet, with absolutely no hesitation whatsoever, my all-time favorite packaged coffee drink ever is Takachiho Bokujo Cafe Au Lait.

It is so, so, so TASTY! Of course, it's also 75% milk, so it's maybe not the kind of coffee drink you mean, but most of the canned ones are kinda of indistinguishable to me anyway. And conbini coffee is so good now—it's ground and brewed to order, for about the same price as a can, and it doesn't taste like metal 😄
Am I being a spoilsport? Okay, I used to like Georgia, if only because of their delightful Twin Peaks commercials. Which I can't recommend enough if you haven't seen them.
youtube
Finally, this is not really a concern in a city, but here's my other canned coffee hangup: in rural Tōhoku, I once bought (and drank 2 sips of) a canned latte out in an isolated area without considering the low foot traffic/vending machine maintenance frequency/the shelf life of dairy products. Over a decade later, I have not fully recovered from what I found floating in it 😂 Be careful out there!
#it was outside a disused car dealership............... why did i.#i was young and dumb and full of--um. 7-11 cheese sticks and shio onigiri#and the boundless optimism of a first-year JET#sigh.

Seoul Milk's "Be Careful with Hand Movements When Opening Yogurt”
Seoul Milk has come under criticism after it was revealed that the company posted a notice asking influencers promoting its new product to "avoid using controversial hand gestures" when opening yogurt containers. Netizens claimed that the "hand gesture" Seoul Milk referred to was the 'pinching gesture (🤏),' which some believe is ‘intentionally used to mock a specific male body part’. They argued that it makes no sense to forbid such a natural and unavoidable movement.

According to a report by The Hankyoreh on the 6th, Seoul Milk recently recruited influencers to promote its new product, "Seoul Milk's Rich Greek Yogurt Soft." One of the promo guidelines instructed influencers to "be cautious of using controversial hand movements when opening the yogurt lid or holding the packaging." This came to light after one influencer made a post about it on social media, which quickly gained attention.
One netizen commented, "Is opening the lid with your fingers really considered a hate expression against men? Why do ordinary people have to be scrutinized for every little action?" Another wrote, "How should I open the yogurt lid then? With my middle finger or by gripping it with my fist?"
Seoul Milk's instructions for influencers have been criticized as excessive, with some accusing the company of censoring even the most mundane hand movements in response to certain men's claims that the 'pinching gesture' symbolizes misandry.
Kim Yuri, the head of the National Women’s Labor Union, told The Hankyoreh in a call, "The company's directive, which forbids a hand gesture that ordinary consumers wouldn't even consider intentional, is irrational." She added, "I worry that Seoul Milk is only incorporating biased messages into its marketing strategy."
As the controversy grew, Seoul Milk said in a call with The Hankyoreh on the same day, "We presented guidelines to block social controversy and focus attention on the product itself," and "We deleted the controversial phrase and revised it on the afternoon of the 5th."
Despite these explanations, public criticism has not subsided. This is not the first time Seoul Milk has been accused of misogynistic promotion, and some netizens are saying they will boycott the company.
In 2021, Seoul Milk faced backlash after releasing a promotional video on their YouTube channel that compared women to dairy cows. The 52-second video featured a woman in white drinking water from a leaf, only to transform into a cow after being startled by a man with a camera.
At the time, netizens criticized the ad for likening women to cows and including scenes reminiscent of illegal filming: "How could such a backwards video be aired in this day and age?" Seoul Milk later issued an apology, saying, "We sincerely apologize to all consumers who felt uncomfortable with the advertisement," and "We will pay more careful attention to prevent similar problems from occurring in the future."
In 2003, Seoul Milk staged a performance in front of the public and journalists, where three naked women were covered in flour and sprayed with yogurt. Four Seoul Milk employees, including the marketing director, were later fined by the court for public indecency.

How bout I turn you into my own personal dairy supply? My own perfect milk factory. You'll change slowly at first. Your tits will grow bigger and get sore while velvety black and white fur begins to cover your body. One day you'll look down and see small teats starting to grow above your crotch. When it grows ill lovingly tell you you have a beautiful udder. You get the entire hucow package. Tits, udder, ears, tail and horns. It'll be so cute to watch you stumble around all unsteady on your new hooves. You'd be so desperate for me to milk you. Tits or udders you wouldn't care at that point you're just so full of milk you just want me to milk you. Ill strap you down into the milking machine for hours till your nice and drained but you know damn well you'll be full and leaking milking again by tomorrow. Ill milk six to seven gallons out of you each day. If you're a good cow maybe I'll even reward you by milking you by hand or if you're lucky, by using my mouth. I'm sure it's feel heavenly compared to the cold suction of the milking machine. One day I'll call the vet out too, you'll be completely restrained and ill explain to you that since you're a dairy cow now you need to be bred like one too. And then I'll have the vet artificially inseminate you with the best stud bulls sperm I could find. Soon your belly will be so big with a rowdy calf growing in it. If you're a good hucow with your first few calves maybe I'll reward you by getting a real bull to put a calf in you.
Unsure of the change at first, but I know how much you love eit, and it does feel good to be unable to control what my body is doing... when the machine takes over and empties me, I can't help but moo loudly with the relief I feel as I'm finally empty... and then confusion, but my mind is so empty that I don't question it as I'm filled, as my body swells with life... feels so good being a cow, even as my milk production is so high I can barely stand...

This Black History Month, Feeding America is celebrating the Black inventors who had a profound impact on our mission.
People like George Washington Carver, also known as Mr. Peanut for his revolutionary work creating new products from a single crop, the lowly peanut. And Alice H. Parker, a Black woman who never got the credit, or the fortune, for inventing what we now know as zoned home heating using natural gas. These trailblazers helped America transition to a major agricultural exporter. Their inventions helped farmers increase the harvest to the point that American farmers now feed the world, and those in need. At Feeding America, our work is tied to moving food from farmers to food banks. It is our mission to end hunger in America and many of these Black inventors helped pave the way for U.S. farmers to grow more food.
George Washington Carver (1861-1943)
Born a slave in 1861, George Washington Carver went on to become one of the most prolific agri-business inventors in American history. He invented crop rotation, and more than 300 uses for the peanut. including Worcestershire sauce, cooking oil, and cosmetics. His work is at the foundation of modern farming. It is because of crop rotation and the introduction of grain crops like corn and soybeans, that Feeding America can help our food banks provide for our neighbors in need. Carver helped American farmers feed America.
He was the first African American to earn a bachelor’s in 1894, then a master’s degree in agricultural science from what’s now known as Iowa State University. Carver invented crop rotation. Farmers were struggling to grow anything after years of harvesting a single crop. Carver suggested they plant peanuts, soybeans, and sweet potatoes which would add nutrients to the depleted soil. This method gave farmers a second chance at becoming leaders in agricultural exports.

It would be impossible for the Feeding America network of food banks to get the much-needed food they need to nourish feed our neighbors without the work of this man, Frederick McKinley Jones. He invented refrigerated trucks, which help food banks provide fresh produce and meat to their communities safely. And, because of his work, food banks can rely on our massive distribution network to transport fresh produce from farmers across the country on a regular basis. In fact, our network moved 3.8 billion pounds of dairy, produce, and meat -- perishable foods that wouldn’t be available were it not for refrigerated trucks, trains, planes, and ships.
His work revolutionized global logistics. It’s at the heart of what’s now known as “the supply chain.” That is, he made it possible to transport perishable food safely from one place to the next. He co-founded the U.S. Thermo Control Company (Thermo King) which was worth millions by 1949 and later acquired by Westinghouse.
A self-taught mechanic and World War I Army veteran, Jones received more than 60 patents for refrigeration as well as X-ray machines, engines and sound equipment. He was the first African American to receive the Presidential National Medal of Technology.

A farmer and a free man before the Emancipation Proclamation, Henry Blair invented two devices to increase agricultural productivity. The first was the corn planter in 1834, and the second was the cotton planter in 1836. His goal was to reduce inefficiencies from manual labor. The Mechanics Magazine published August 6, 1836, described it as “saving the labor of eight men.” Blair’s discoveries helped farmers grow more food for the masses, not just their local communities. For Feeding America, farmers are at the heart of what we do. A large percentage of the food our neighbors receive at their local food pantry is packaged right on the farm where it's grown thanks to our partnership with the USDA. Inventions like Blair's are what fuel the heartland.
While not at the heart of our mission, Feeding America often helps people in need who have to make the tough choice between paying for heat or buying food. During cold winter months, there are many who choose to pay their heating bill and forsake food. They turn to their local food pantry as a stop-gap. The Feeding America network of food banks provides a safe, consistent place for families in need to access food.

Alice H. Parker, the mother of modern heating, invented the gas-forced air heating system because she too wanted to provide a safe place for families.
Before her invention of the gas furnace, home heating wasn’t safe. Homes were heated with coal or wood-burning fireplaces. Parker was the first to develop natural gas as a cleaner, more efficient alternative to home heating in 1919.
An unsung hero of home heating technology, she revolutionized how we live today. But Parker didn’t have an easy go of it as a Black female inventor. The Civil Rights Movement had yet to give African Americans their rights and the Women’s Liberation Movement was further off. She never profited from her invention. So, we salute her. We know there are many families that struggle with tough choices these days with the rising costs of home heating. But for those who have a warm place to sleep and the modern advances of zoned heat, the next time you adjust the thermostat, say a silent thank you to Alice H. Parker.
