also! written in february for the county writing contest. this one i submitted too but it was just for fun because i wanted to try and play around with the Frankenstein concept from the last one in a way that fit better into the word limit 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️

Make New Friends, but Keep the Old: One Is Silver, and the Other’s a Goldfish

~800 words

also written february 2023 for the county writing contest except. this one i submitted even though i was unhappy with it because i felt like the 800 word limit took away from this one unlike the other two. if i could’ve had more words i would’ve liked to make Davis’ motivations more clear. I wanted it to be more clear that she has a history of getting small pets to try and keep herself afloat, but being so mentally unwell she often neglects them and ends up killing them. Because of this she gets bored owning them and so in a prolonged state of mania, she decides to splice two small pets together to make a whole new creature to keep herself entertained and give herself the researching task to obsess over and pour herself into until that’s possible. I think the word limit forced a lot of character development out and made it feel really random and abrupt, but maybe I’ll rewrite it after the awards ceremony in april.
