Zane, Jay, and Skylor in my art style (sketches) plus a cute headcanon i came up with:

Headcanon: the ninja, for years, have accidentally been wearing each other’s clothes by pure accident, and no one realised until Pixal began living with them. You suddenly have a weird spiky jacket with the letter C in the corner? Mustve been a hand me down!

You suddenly have a shirt thats way too small on you? Must’ve grown out of it!

Oh? You suddenly have clothes with fire insignias on it? Must be some merch you got alongside your own as a two for one deal in ninjago market.

You have a rlly ugly sweater you’d never actually buy? Oh its must be a gift! Might as well wear it.

No one realises. Not a signal person realises, because they didn’t know what belonged to who in the first place. This was all caused by Wu trying to enforce discipline into the ninja (and Nya) by making them do chores. But when the chore of laundry came around, it became pure confusion for whoever was doing it because who is wearing bright pink tank tops dammit???

So, as teenagers do, they decided they did not care enough and threw the clothes into one of the random 5 (later 6 (Lloyd) and even later, 7 (Pixal)) baskets and call it a day.

And because the ninja can be rlly dumb, they don’t realise.

So in my drawing, you have a shockingly sick Zane (he caught a virus) wearing a shirt that belonged to Jay and not questioning why it doesn’t reach past his waist, a Skylor wearing Nya’s overalls and Kai’s belt as she tries to help Pixal and Nya fix a car or smth (she may know how to cook, but she has no idea how to build) and being annoyed by not getting it, and a Jay wearing Pixal’s purple shirt as he simps over Nya doing smth rlly cool.

Later, it’s Pixal who joins the group and lives with them, and feeling out of place she wonders where her clothes are going off too. When Pixal sees Jay wearing her shirt, she asks why, he acts rlly confused, the other ninja are baffled, and Pixal proves her point by showing the tag with her name on it. Slowly, the other ninja check their clothes and realises they’re wearing each other’s clothes too. They’re all embarrassed and don’t say anything, until Pixal laughs and says she actually finds it sweet and it made her feel more comfortable there.

From there on out, the ninja began ‘claiming/accepting’ friends through mixing their clothes together and waiting for the other to wear them.

Vania stays over and the next day shes wearing an oversized black shirt, internally confused where she got it from but it’s so damn comfortable. Cole is excited.

Benthomaar lives with the Ninja for a bit and one day he’s wearing Nya’s swimming shorts and he wonders why ‘his’ shorts are so…short. Nya has to hold back her laugh when later she sees Bentho wearing a tight blue shirt, and a Jay yelling about not being short.

Skylor wonders where she got collection of red tank tops, and never realises Kai freaking out in the back every time she wears one.

In a resurrected AU, Morro is seen wearing a white shirt alongside a golden ribbon wrapped around his waist. Zane and Wu share a glance when they hear Morro mutter about where all his dark coloured clothes went.

I’m working on a rewrite of the whole Ninjago show within my Royals AU. There is so far only one book out on Ao3. -Warriortheninja

Alternative Universes

ROYALS AU- This is the main AU on my blog. It’s where most of my original characters thrive in. This AU revolves around the same storyline but things are different. For one, Wu and Garmadon aren’t old looking men. They look young (like season 7 flashbacks) and are married to different people. Lloyd is a prince, he has other siblings, there are anthro characters (because they’re much better than drawing human ones and honestly a dynamic between humans and anthros getting along just makes he smile).

Last of Their Kind or LOTKAU: This is where Garmadon (and Mystake) are the last oni in all the Sixteen Realms. Wu is the last dragon in all of Ninjago. Garmadon has pups with his mate Burr (the last Formling in Ninjago) and that’s how Lloyd is around. Lloyd is the main man (or oni) of this AU. Since a young pup, Lloyd loves the idea of meeting humans and becoming friends with them. He gets his chance when the Gang (they don’t go by Ninja) come and camp in The Valley. 

Nautica AU: This is an AU where it’s a crossover between Subnautica and Ninjago. Why? Because I was bored and thought it would be fun. This AU is where the Ninja and their young crash down onto a predominantly water world. Nya and Nyad exist as water goddesses in this AU. It’s supposed to be a sweet family thing. It revolves around Jay and Nya’s child, Ara. 

Train Zone AU: This AU is basically where Wu and Garmadon accidentally screw things up on their journey and land into my world Craftia and are taken in by Warrior and her crew. It’s also a sweet family fluff thing. 

Craftian Wind AU: An Aurawind AU where Morro left Wu and managed to get into Craftia. Gets attacked and unsavory things happen to him, Warrior and her group save Morro’s assaulters before they could kill him. They then take him in and get him to full health. Morro stays with Warrior in Craftia and a romance blossoms between them. It’s just fluff and angst. Mostly fluff though.

Do you think maybe, even decades later, Wu still held on to a tiny flicker of hope that Morro would come back?

Do you think that maybe that made leaving the burnt-down monastery even harder because not only was he losing his family home and many of his possessions, but now Morro wouldn't know where to find him?

Jeez I've only seen the Rebooted finale twice (cause sadness) but I just watched it again today and I had COMPLETELY forgotten the scene where Cryptor just...throws Cyrus on the ground and is like "well you're useless to us now so you get to WATCH YOUR HOME CRUMBLE AND BOW DOWN TO THE OVERLORD" and like...damn. As if they hadn't tortured him enough.

Ronin was playing outside that day with Morro. It was sunny and they were left alone. It wasn’t any better then that. The monastery felt empty without Wu but that was what Ronin wanted. He’s sitting with Morro when he notices the wide open door.

“Think we should go outside?” Not run. That didn’t work. It didn’t with just him and then it didn’t when he ran with Morro. Morro shrugs back. “What would we do.”

“Hang out, that’s all.” He continues quickly before Morro could speak. “I know we do it all the time, just I want to it at least away from the monastery..”

“Alright, we can do that.” Ronin sighs. “Thanks.”

Morro helps pull Ronin up and they run for the door together. It’s been open that day and both of them go to the village nearest the temple. They stop breathless by some trash cans. They hear some knocking nearby and Ronin reacts by shoving himself into a trash can.

Morro opens the can he’s placed himself into. “Are you alright?”

“Ye- yeah, just a little scared.”

“So will you be hiding in there?” Ronin shrugs. “I guess.” And with that, Morro climbs into the one right next to him. Ronin had made grabby hands for the lid and Morro gave it back without question.

When Morro looked at Ronin, he saw he had the lid on his head. “Uh.”

“It’s a hat. And I’m going to keep it.”

“That’s not smart at all.” Ronin gets out of the trash, still having the lid on his head. “Well, what do you suggest?”

“Anything but that.” Ronin just pouts, “I could paint it. Make it my color.”

Morro tilts his head to the side. “Maybe. It’s worth a try.”

“Should- Should we go home then?” He sounds scared and now he’s clutching the lid to his chest. “No, we’re going to stay here for a while. We just got here, remember?” Ronin sighs in relief. “Right.”

“There’s a painter’s shop nearby, we can go there.” Ronin lights up at the suggestion. “He won’t mind us?” Morro shook his head. “No, everyone already knows we visit a lot.”

“Okay.”

They arrive sometime by a man’s shop. It’s cluttered with various paints and art in the making. Pieces are scattered from the floor to the ceiling in place, some have price tags but most are seen unfinished and so don’t. The place has a much more peaceful atmosphere then what he usually felt from the monastery. It’s beautiful there and he’s never knew it existed. Morro knocks on the door three times before waiting. “He should be here.”

The door opens some five minutes later. “Hello?” A graying old man says to them. “Can we paint something? My brother has something he’d like to keep.” The man laughed. “Of course, come inside.”

They run startling the poor man. “Do you have red paint? My color, you know?” Ronin immediately says sounding more then a little excited.

“I should, why?” Morro points to Ronin. “He wants a red hat, but it’s a lid.”

And the man almost doubled over laughing but coughs instead. “I’ll get him his paint.” He comes back with two buckets of red paint, both the same shade as Ronin’s gi. He then hands them both a paintbrush after Ronin tries to put the lid in the paint and failing.

Morro had laughed at him but gave him his brush when Ronin had pouted. They begin to paint in unison, the man watching in guidance.

They get all of the top when Ronin tries to turn it upside down, accidentally splattering himself in paint. “Aw.”

“You’re going too quick. We should wait first.”

“Oh- Okay.” He’s almost scared that he’s going to be yelled at. Flashes of Wu appearing for a few seconds. Morro brings him back to the present by patting his shoulder. “It’s fine. I swear it that he won’t come here.”

“He wouldn’t, will he?”

“I thought he was on a break. Had he left you two alone?” The man interrupts scaring the two from their small conversation. Ronin nods before Morro can stop him. “Y- yeah, we’re going to be staying at the monastery for a few days.”

“May I suggest you stay at the village then?”

“Can we? Can we really?”

“Of course, I can set up beds for you.” Ronin is surprised by this man and he nearly drops the paintbrush. “But for now, let’s finish that hat of his.”

For several hours, they all continue to paint the trash lid. Eventually finishing at night.

“Stay here. I should get you two clothes.” “Okay, sir.” Ronin responds within a beat of time. “There’s not need to call me sir. I’m Harley.” The man tells him and Ronin just nods.

Once the kids are alone, Ronin turns to Morro. “Why is he so nice? I don’t get it.” Morro shrugs. “We’re kids.”

“No, I mean just- why is he letting us have freedom? He’s letting us do things for fun and not yelling at us either.” Morro smiles. “Maybe we don’t have to know.” He smiles back and Harley returns with some spare clothing for the two.

“Both of you should go shower but I only have one. Would any of you like to go?”

“Can we go together inside? We can take turns waiting for each other.” Ronin replies, unsure.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah.” Harley sighs. “Alright but one of you must come out when you’re finished cleaning.” He stands up and places the hat on a nearby drying rack. And then motions for them to follow him.

Glancing through some windows they find out that since that it’s night time. The building is small enough that they reach it quickly. Ronin ended up taking the shower first. He tries not to let his thoughts get to him. He does end up asking one question to Morro before he’s done. “Do you think Wu abandoned us?” Morro had snorted.

“I doubt that. But are you done showering? Harley gave us some fresh clothes so we wouldn’t have to wear our gis. He told me he was going to clean them.”

“O- Oh, alright. I’m done now.” He had just finished getting the conditioner out of his hair. He doesn’t ask for the towel, instead trying to grab for it.They change spots in tandem and Ronin leaves the bathroom.

He has covered most of himself in the towel with just enough moving space. Harley points out the room from a few steps from the bathroom. They likely would’ve missed it otherwise.

“You will sleep there. Your clothing for tonight is already in place.” He nods in acknowledgment and he goes to the room. It’s a seldom decorated room with two separate beds. He notices that each have a set of pajamas on them, maroon and a dark leafy green. He just notices a few seconds afterward the undergarments and quickly puts them on.

He dresses quietly, first putting on the pants and then the shirt. It’s so comfortable, he can hardly believe it was something for him. Ronin briefly wonders if he could keep them at all. He was still standing there when Morro opens the door, wrapped in such a way similar to a burrito. Not that Ronin was any different. Ronin points to Morro’s set of clothing and he starts moving quicker to them.

Ronin lets him change in private, getting into the bed. Like the pajamas. It's also comfortable, enough to want to melt just to stay in it. He finds himself comparing his old monastery beds to it. While this was warm and enough to cover him, his first in shed was barely anything. Merely just a scrap of fabric and left at that. The shared bed was better but hardly much from a rock due to previous disuse.

“I’m thinking we could stay here.” Morro’s muffled voice calls. He’s in the blankets and Ronin could just feel the relief. “Maybe..”

“You want to, don’t you?”

“I- I do, I really want to stay..” Barely perceptible shaking in his voice. “But I’m so scared we’ll be caught again. It’s happened twice already and for you only once. I just- want- need us to be away from Him. Forever. But it’s not happening and I feel like I’m going to break soon. I was already so close before.. I don’t want it to happen either.”

“So we’re going back to that hellhole?” Ronin feels himself grin a bit at the description. “Not like we have a choice.”

“Anyway I’m going to dye some of my hair.” A happier change in subject. “Really? What color?”

“I’m thinking green. It seems fitting with that Green Ninja Wu seems to think I am.” The talking continues and then fades with them asleep. Neither knowing who fell first but neither having the need to care.

Anyway, here are the tags in question that almost certainly incited this ask (originally from this post):

#all i know is that either way im probably gonna be leaving the fandom after ns8 and id prefer to go out on a good note #if they’re just going to be fuckin julienbaiting trash till the end then fine by me i wont fuckin bother watching this stupid shit anymore #and if they go through with it? congrats; and now he’s dead permanently (probably) #and considering that the hope of his existence has been the only force keeping me from escaping this hell fandom #i for one cannot wait to be freed from my chains

And yes, I mean every word of that - but it’s not for the reason you’re alluding to. Honestly, I’ve had no huge issues with the fandom that would force me to leave (disregarding all the Disgusting Shippers) - there are some good people, and I’ve made a lot of friends here. It’s just that I’ve been growing increasingly frustrated with the show over the past several years. The only thing that’s kept me from leaving has been a feeling - almost a premonition - that Julien was going to get a better send-off than what he got in S3. After all, it ain’t over til the fat lady sings, and at that point, the fat lady didn’t even exist.

Am I so petty as to completely disregard the show because I’m mad about how my favorite character was treated? No, but I’m still really disappointed in it. He and Zane had (and by comparison to all seasons since, still have) the best platonic relationship in the entire show, possibly only tied with Cyrus and Pixal (and Cyrus hasn’t seen Pixal since the end of S3 - what’s with Ninjago and either dividing, ruining, or otherwise negatively interfering with parent/child relationships?). The love they had for each other was pure, simple, and unconditional - and in a way, they completed each other.

But the biggest issue I have with Ninjago, the most significant reason why the newer seasons piss me off so much, is the inverse relationship between the quality of the story and the quality of the visuals. Because, for whatever reason, the show can’t have both.

Sure, the pilot, S1, and S2 look decent - but they’re nothing compared to the later seasons. For an example, compare the water physics between the opening scene of Tick Tock and Morro’s death scene in E54:

It’s practically night and day - and this is only one aspect where things have improved significantly. Take the Spinjitzu; in the early seasons, it’s just a normal, flat tornado, but when Kai uses it in E55 (as one example), you can even see sparks flying off of it. Or how complex some of the areas have gotten, how much detail is present now compared to back in the early days.

Or the lighting. Or the effects. Or the creature designs. 

The show has become more and more beautiful, but in the process, the story and characters have been completely decimated. The plots have also gotten much lazier - there could’ve been any number of ways to resolve S6 without resorting to retconning all of it, but nope! They lazily retcon it and create a huge paradox (as Sensei Yang’s temple was left floating in the sky, even though it was only pulled up there in E60 - which was obviously retconned, as only twelve minutes of S6 are effectively “canon” to the current timeline).

Then there’s the love triangle for lazy drama, and all the time they had to waste afterwards attempting to “fix” Jaya (which, to be completely honest, hasn’t worked at all). Most of the other relationships the show has teased haven’t worked out well, either, because there’s always something Really Bad about them (whether it’s the obvious emotional dependencies exhibited by Jay and Zane in their relationships, or all of the incest jokes with Kai and Skylor in S4, or whatever the fuck is wrong with Wu and Misako, which I honestly can’t put a name on).

And don’t even get me started on the characterization! Literally everyone has been reduced down to one or two traits - “robot”, or “annoying”, or “impulsive”, or “foodie”. Sure, these traits were always present back in the early seasons, but they weren’t nearly as exaggerated then as they were now. Jay’s and Zane’s characterizations have especially pissed me off - Jay’s extremely annoying practically 24/7 (especially in S6, jesus fuck), and after he went Titanium, Zane’s become a smarter-than-you asshole who’s always trying to fix shit by himself. (I could honestly go on about him all day, but I won’t.)

Out of the last several seasons, the only one that I can definitively say I liked was S5. The plot was interesting, and I could form an emotional connection with it; the characterization was still decent (or at least not anywhere near as bad as in S6); a ton of cool concepts were introduced, such as the Cloud Kingdom, the Realm Crystal, and Nya being the Water Ninja, among other things; and I liked all of the new characters.

I also liked Day of the Departed, and S7 was decent, but S3, S4, and S6 were honestly terrible. S3 and S6 don’t need any explanation (as the only redeeming qualities are some of the new characters, as well as the last 10 minutes of E34 and TLR); but S4 was mostly just because I was having major issues with the fandom at the point, decided to take a break from it, and never got back around to watching it (as I only came back to the fandom as soon as the S5 hype train got rolling).

And speaking of fandom issues, boy do I have some. I hate how a lot of people in the fandom are extremely homophobic and/or transphobic. I hate how a significant chunk of the fandom ships Lloyd with the other Ninja, even though they’re all adults and 5-6 years older than Lloyd. I hate how a lot of those same people ship Nya with a man at least twice her age.

I hate how Morro is included in photosets of “all of the main ninja!!!!!” more often than Nya. I hate how some people in the fandom romanticize the way Morro abused Lloyd in S5. I hate how the entire fandom has a double standard when it comes to people who have done bad things: how if they’re young and conventionally attractive, they’re a ~smol pure bby~, and if they’re not, they’re the evilest scum to ever live.

I hate how nobody cares about the side characters. I hate how nobody acknowledges good friendships, only ships. And I hate how nobody thinks for themselves, thinks for even five seconds, before following along with whatever is popular.

The only reason I’ve stuck around this long - which will be five years in November - is because I’ve had just a bit of hope. A small, feeble hope - one that I could finally get a good ending, that I could finally be satisfied with the show. That I could finally watch the show because I want to watch it, not because I feel like I need to.

And that moment is finally so, so close - I can feel it in my bones. I’ve wanted to be able to escape for years, but I’ve never been able to; I’ve always been dragged back in. And now that freedom so close, that it’s almost here, I’m more afraid than ever that it’s all going to come crashing down.

And on top of that, I don’t really feel all that appreciated here. My meta posts get some attention, but only if they’re short. My music boxes get some attention, but Tumblr doesn’t let them show up in the tag, and thus they get far fewer notes than they really could/would. My fics get few reblogs and even fewer comments, because the “you should always reblog art and give good feedback to support the artist!!!!!!!” doesn’t apply for fanfic writers. And don’t even get me started on my theories, especially my Samurai X theory as of late; I put a lot of effort into those - to make sure that they’re hole-free, to make sure that they make sense, to make sure that they could possibly happen - and all I get is one or two comments from people who really appreciate the work I’ve put into it, and criticism from people who already have their minds set on whatever arbitrary explanation.

For all of these reasons, I really want to drop out of the fandom, or at least hibernate for a while. Most of the people from earlier in the fandom’s history - including lots of my friends - have moved on to other things at this point, mostly because they didn’t find it worthwhile to stick around. They’ve all been able to leave, but I’m still stuck here.

Which is why I’ve honestly resolved to drop out of the fandom after NS8. By that point, I’ll have gotten one of two things - either a good send-off for my favorite character, one that I’ve been waiting for for five years; or a final confirmation that this show no longer has anything to offer me. It doesn’t mean that I won’t like the show anymore, or that I’ll stop watching it - it’s just that there won’t be any reason for me to be active in the fandom, and thus I won’t do so as often.

So yeah.
