De La Salle University officially broke ground for two of its flagship projects in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna last July 24. Two research facilities, the Hangar and the Clean Building, will be housed in the University’s 50-hectare Science and Technology Complex.
The DLSU Science and Technology Complex aims to be an integral resource for scientific advancements and technological innovations in the country, emphasizing the Lasallian tenets of integrating faith and service through knowledge generation.
The Hangar will serve as the new venue for noisy and dirty engineering work for programs such as Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Management, Chemical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Automotive Engineering.
The second structure, the Clean Building, is meant to be a shared space for disciplines that utilize high-precision equipment. The Clean Building will be home to experiments and lab work for courses in Human Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, Industrial Engineering, and Industrial Ecology. Other programs which require high-level visualization and performance computing will also be housed in the building.

My first official week of being a Lasallian mentor was capped off by Grade 7's Outbound to Victoria, Panguil, and Paete, Laguna. Silly me forgot to bring the camera so all these actually came from my iPhone 4's camera, with a little help from #vscocam, of course. Nifty.

Spinelli Retreat
I've been out for the past 2 days because of a school requirement, the annual retreat/Lasallian formation. Honestly speaking, I actually thought it was just another school requirement and it won't do me any good so might as well get it over with. But as usual, I was proved wrong.
Being in a room with like 15 other boys, I felt like a girl on a boys school. I can feel that they are somehow awkward with me so I usually go outside or just sleep. The horror when it's bathtime, I just go out of the room immediately and just listen to music. Well I can't blame them though. At least they're still somehow nice, but it somehow made me down.
The sessions were fun. Sure, there are tons of crap being spoken but would you believe you can really learn something? I sure didn't, but I did.  I was surprised the first night I was there when I recapped what I've learned with the session and it seems like I learned a lot. Suddenly, those crap being discussed made sense. And I just know that I'll never be the same again.
Food is one of my problems whenever I'll be away from home and locked in a retreat house. Luckily, there are always fruits served or my friends will give me some of their food. God bless them so much!
I think the highlight of the event was the candle of reconciliation. I could not believe how much tears I've shed that activity. Even talking and opening/confessing to a friend is weird. Kay made me cry. She saw through the details and small things and it's amazing. Her speech really got me and I could not stop crying and hiccuping from what I've done. Even after I was talking to other people, I was still crying. I finally stopped and I honestly felt amazing.
The last activity was the affirmation letters. I gave out to everyone I felt like I had to affirm (but as usual, I forgot some people). I felt like I hold the record for most letters written, 14. And I received some too. Almost everyone say that my trait among the 5 C's is confident. Which is kind of weird because I'm not really that confident at all.  But thank every one of you who sent me letters. I also cried while reading them. I'm such a crybaby after my 19th birthday.
And oh, my bestfriend gave me a case for my iPod and it's really gorgeous! It says "Be Fearless" in an artsy way and it's color Red. I believe my identifier with my school is Swiftie and I'm not complaining. Everyone almost told me to be fearless, or a proud swiftie and I'm proud to have made my mark as the biggest Swiftie in school.
I don't know if I'm making sense but this retreat taught me a lot. I never saw it coming but I'm kinda looking forward to the after graduation retreat which will be 5 years after we graduated. The retreat gave me good vibes and I hope this continues until I go for my internship tomorrow.
I'm sorry for my lack of cohesive idea for this post, I just wanna share that I had lots of fun and learning! Thank you STC! :)

So basically for our assignment, we were tasked to compare most of the Flood Myths that were told in the different parts of the world that had similar themes/events that happened in their respective flood stories.
From all the flood myths that I have read, the most common or similar is the story of a person who created a ship and gathered his/her family and a pair of every living creature aboard this person's ship. (similar to Noah's Ark)
Here are some of the flood myths that have this kind of story:
Welsh (Ireland):
The lake of Llion burst, flooding all lands. Dwyfan and Dwyfach escaped in a mastless ship with pairs of every sort of living creature. They landed in Prydain (Britain) and repopulated the world.
Transylvanian Gypsy (Transylvania):
Men once lived forever and knew no troubles. The earth brought forth fine fruits, flesh grew on trees, and milk and wine flowed in many rivers. One day, and old man came to the country and asked for a night's lodging, which a couple gave him in their cottage. When he departed the next day, he said he would return in nine days. He gave his host a small fish in a vessel and said he would reward the host if he did not eat the fish but returned it then. The wife thought the fish must be exceptionally good to eat, but the husband said he had promised the old man to keep it and made the woman swear not to eat it. After two days of thinking about it, though, the wife yielded to temptation and threw the fish on the hot coals. Immediately, she was struck dead by lightning, and it began to rain. The rivers started overflowing the country. On the ninth day, the old man returned and told his host that all living things would be drowned, but since he had kept his oath, he would be saved. The old man told the host to take a wife, gather his kinfolk, and build a boat on which to save them, animals, and seeds of trees and herbs. The man did all this. It rained a year, and the waters covered everything. After a year, the waters sank, and the people and animals disembarked. They now had to labor to gain a living, and sickness and death came also. They multiplied slowly so that many thousands of years passed before people were again as numerous as they were before the flood.
Sumerian:
The gods had decided to destroy mankind. The god Enlil warned the priest-king Ziusudra ("Long of Life") of the coming flood by speaking to a wall while Ziusudra listened at the side. He was instructed to build a great ship and carry beasts and birds upon it. Violent winds came, and a flood of rain covered the earth for seven days and nights. Then Ziusudra opened a window in the large boat, allowing sunlight to enter, and he prostrated himself before the sun-god Utu. After landing, he sacrificed a sheep and an ox and bowed before Anu and Enlil. For protecting the animals and the seed of mankind, he was granted eternal life and taken to the country of Dilmun, where the sun rise
But one other flood myth seemed different from other flood myths that I have read, and it's from Egypt.
Egypt:
People have become rebellious. Atum Ra said he will destroy all he made and return the earth to the Primordial Water (Nun) which was its original state. Atum Ra, will remain, in the form of a serpent, with Osiris, in the underworld. According to the Egyptians, this story is incomplete for they believed it hasn't happened yet.

A feature on DLSU President and Chancellor Br. Ricky Laguda FSC
Leading change
Text him, email him, FB him, the new president of DLSU-Manila brings with him energy, enthusiasm and a youthful vibe...
By RACHEL C. BARAWID
July 25, 2012, 11:20am
In spite of his position, stature, and the million and one things he needs to accomplish everyday as president and chancellor of De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila, Br. Ricky P. Laguda, FSC finds time to answer the text messages, emails, and Facebook (FB) messages he gets on important concerns.
The president is even FB friends with Lasallian students and makes sure he is always in the loop about campus and social media happenings.
“People can send messages on Facebook and email and I usually reply within 24 hours. If I don’t reply, that means I have no internet access. My Facebook account was already there even before I became president. It’s my way of connecting to the La Salle brothers, classmates, friends, batchmates and even students,” shares the 43-year-old Br. Ricky.
This youthful vibe, enthusiasm and energy are what Br. Ricky hopes to his presidency. While he admits that he may not have the extensive experience of managing a school like his predecessor De La Salle Araneta University president Br. Jun Erguiza, FSC, Br. Ricky would like to believe that his fresh outlook, forward-thinking persona, and collaborative and collegial style will help him ably steer the ship.
“Maybe my youth can be a factor because I’m not sure how people who have been here for 30 years or more perceive me. But I’d like to believe that I’m closer to the ground, with the students and the faculty. If age is a distance for some, then I hope to at least lessen it for the students, and the faculty who are mostly older than me. I’ve never ran a university this big and I don’t have any preconceptions of how it should be done. So I hope it will work to my advantage to get it to the ground,” he reveals.
THE TEACHER AND STUDENT
The second child in a brood of four, Br. Ricky grew up in the company of the brothers at the De La Salle Bacolod in Negros Occidental. His birthdays were spent with his mentor Br. Felix Mason, who would play cards games with him, give novena prayers, and share stories of patron saints. Br. Ricky also made friends with Brothers Bernie Oca, Jun Erguiza who was his high school principal,  and all other teachers who inspired him to pursue a Brother`s life.
Ever since he entered the brotherhood at 16, Br. Ricky`s mind never left La Salle and the mission he wanted to fulfill. His love for it remained steadfast even when he had to leave for a one-year exchange program in Australia, and later on take his undergraduate course in AB Philosophy at the Ateneo de Manila University. Br. Ricky lived in Katipunan at that time and studying at the Ateneo was the most practical choice and a tradition in the family.
At 27, Br. Ricky went on a mission work for two years in Papua New Guinea, teaching children. That experience taught him the essence of being human, of reaching out to people of different races and culture, and the need to respect diversity.
Br. Ricky also became a novel director, training young brothers. Later on, he worked as a Christian Living teacher to elementary and high school students in Negros and La Salle Greenhills.
Yet even until now, he remains a student who would constantly seek advices from his mentors Brothers Oca, Erguiza and Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro.
Br. Ricky says these values of being faith-filled, one who is able to trust people, as well as service, and the ability to work with others in pursuing shared goals, are the very attributes that Lasallians should have.
“I want to accelerate the principles of transformative learning in all colleges to produce Lasallian graduates who are reflective lifelong learners, service-driven citizens, creative and critical thinkers, and effective communicators,” says Br. Ricky.

Creating the next great idea: DLSU Science and Technology Complex
DLSU-STC is definitely the next great idea and next big thing in boosting new opportunities specifically in the field of science and technology.
Together with my OVPIA family and other USG and CSO officers, we all went to DLSU-Canlubang to witness the current DLSU-Canlubang to evolve into DLSU Manila's Sciene and Technology Campus. It was a once in a life time opportunity to see everyone gathered to celebrate the opening of DLSU-STC. Cheers to the next 100 years of DLSU. The end is just the beginning.
