DJslim - Mermaidia

DJslim, aka Tyler Gray, is a hip-hop artist based in Florida.

His debut album “Mermaidia” launched his career and put him in the public eye. From his very first album, DJslim has taken the music industry by storm.

Notably, “Mermaidia” features the artists legendary bonus remixest hat have made him a household name overnight.  

What makes the DJslim stand out in the industry is that he seamlessly blurs the lines between a diverse variety of genres. In “Mermaidia” alone, the artist explores EDM, hip-hop, country, and rock n’ roll, to mention but a few. It’s impossible to pigeonhole the artist because he’s not limited by the restrictions of genre and style.

Originally, the artist was from Raleigh, North Carolina. He relocated to Florida as a teenager and has been based there ever since. DJslim has been inspired by a slew of different artists during his career. He’s particularly influenced by the likes of Eminem and DJ Icey, where his love of both rap and EDM come from.

The first track on his album is “Blur (DJslin TrAppin MerMaids ReMix)”. This song has got a cool combination of alternative inspired melodies and classic sounding trap beats. On this track, I like the sound of the claps that give somewhat of a more modern and dynamic feel to the arrangement. The style of this song reminds me of some of the more energetic music of Rihanna or Dua Lipa, to mention but two female artists.

“Cowboy, you’re lost, go home” is the third number on the album. This song has some cool electro-pop influences with some memorable melodic leads. The recorded sound bites also add a textural and atmospheric layer to the composition.

“Silly Tiger, it’s a trap!” is one of the standouts on the album. The intro is engaging from the very first moment. It features stunning synth melodies and arpeggios, among many other nuances. This composition is sophisticated and complex, yet it still has an accessible feel to it. This track has a more experimental flavor and definitely showcases the artists' innovative musical approach.

“Body Taste” is the perfect end to the album. The track features sensual and raw female vocals, a signature of Djslims style. On top of this, it has an immersive soundtrack that is beautifully produced and performed. The production aesthetic is balanced and contemporary lending a fresh spin to Djslim’s work.
