List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you. learn to know your mutuals and followers.(ू•‧̫•ू⑅)♡
Hi Julie !!♥️
📺Binging an old movie/tv series that I've heard about alot but havent watched/read yet, whenever i get even a two days holiday (preferably with chocolate)
🏏Watching Cricket matches with mum. She's the reason i even watch cricket, the only sport i can completely understand and enjoy. And if our team makes it to the final,we stay up past midnight to watch the match and the after ceremony
📝Planning something thoroughly, like a study timetable or a project. I love planning even if i hardly follow through any of those plans. And my plans are very detailed and i spend a lot of time on them. It makes me feel like I'm being very productive even if I'm just wasting time that could be used to actually do some of the things i list in the plan
🧑🎨✂️Doing crafts and stuff like diy wall hanging, picture frames, cd art . They never look like what I'd want them to look like inside my head but it's still fun
👭👭Storytelling w friends(4 of us,we used to be like a clique). Back in school we used to do this thing where whenever we all get a free period and one of us has watched a new movie that the other three hasn't ,they basically tell the others the entire story (mostly thrillers / mysteries /ghost stories). I'm a terrible story teller because i have no continuity of thought and I'm half way through the story before i remember something that i should have told at the beginning. But one of my friends is a very good story teller, sometimes watching a movie after hearing it from her,i feel like listening to her was much better. She actually makes us gasp and cry. We only do it over con calls now but we don't do it as often as I'd like

suddenly overcome with the urge to hang up more of my posters and i found in my drawer of smaller posters i haven’t yet hung up the little bonus poster from Gungrave VR plus the case insert with the artwork on the back, i bought two preowed copies by mistake bc i forgot i already bought it once so i just took out the extra case insert with the intention of framing it/putting it on my wall (which has yet to happen some 3-4 years later oops). BUT i also saw some of the extra vinyl record frames in my drawer and when i unfolded the Gungrave poster and placed it on top of it, it was nearly an exact fit!!! just a little bit of empty space on the sides bc it’s a rectangular poster and the vinyl frames are square. so i got out some old posterboard to cut a mat to cover up the scrungly particle board back of the vinyl frame (which i did before for my State Songs vinyl since it was in a transparent sleeve) and cleaned the whole thing up and it worked out so good omfg.... it looks Excellent!! if i had black posterboard maybe i’d use that as a mat instead to look less obvious but the white looks much cleaner than rough particleboard lol. and THEN in the drawer i had this other little frame meant to hold a CD and the album booklet side by side and that was nearly a perfect size match for the game case insert artwork piece !!!! CD frame had a copy of Flood and since I already have the Flood picture disc vinyl framed on my wall a second framed Flood would be kinda redundant so i took out the CD & booklet (I need to find the rest of the case now oops i know i kept it, it’s a duplicate copy tho so not a big deal) and swapped in the Gungrave artwork, again it was a little small and had empty space on the edges so I cut a new mat for it as well (that frame already had one but there was a big square chunk cut out for the CD booklet and hole for the peg that keeps the CD in place on the original and i already had the posterboard and boxcutter out so why not) and cleaned that up as well and again... looks so good !!!! galaxy brain diy moment haha. came out way better than i expected. anyways now to figure out where the fuck to put these bad boys......

If you're available I would love to see a Twilight request! The reader has a one or two year old child. She falls asleep with the child in a nearby playpen napping as well. Edward, Jacob or Emmett(Or even the Cullen family returning home from a hunt) arrive and find the child awake, out of their playpen, face covered with marker marks and in the process of coloring sleeping mom's legs. Thank you so much in advance!💖💖
So this took a while because I really struggled to think of a way to write this at first, but I finally got an idea I was happy with because it combines a cute request with some quality Emmett and Rosalie fluff! I hope you enjoy it chickadee :D
Dream A Little Dream
Words: 2756
Warnings: None, just a simple bit of fluff!
Summary: Emmett needs a reprieve from Rosalie’s temper tantrum, so he goes to check on a DIY project, only to find someone else is living their dream.
“C’mon Rose, talk to me, just tell me-“
“Get out Emmett!”
The door had slammed between them before he could dare say another word, but Emmett was nothing if not persistent. He had spent 66 years married to the woman after all and if he had learned anything from that experience, it was that Rosalie’s temperament was as precarious as an unweighted seesaw - he was confident she’d be cuddling him by tonight.
“Babe.” He rapped his knuckles against the door to the garage but the only reply he received was the loud and sudden blast of a bassline from the CD player. His eyes rolled and he puffed out his cheeks, exhaling in a huff and turning away from the garage to leave his wife to cool off. Edward remained seated at the piano, grinning down at the keys while his fingers diligently moved across the ivory keys.
“No, I have no idea what’s wrong with her.” His voice drifted through from the music room, carrying on the sweet notes of the song he’d composed. He hadn’t played for quite a while but it was a nice, soothing change to listen to the melody he plunked out, Alice’s sugary soprano harmonising beautifully with the key he played in. Emmett scowled in his general direction, moving through the house towards the front door.
“Where are you going?” Carlisle’s voice made him stop and turn, his hand on the door handle.
“Out. Rose needs space.” He answered. Carlisle’s brow furrowed, his expression troubled. Emmett couldn’t quite understand it himself. He had never really seen the downsides to vampirism, not when it had gifted him an eternity with his very own angel, not when it came with the added perks of agility and strength and speed he could only have ever dreamed of in his human days. He didn’t have it in to lament for his soul or whatever the rest of them seemed to do. They were vampires, and vampires drank blood – accidents were inevitable. So what if the Swan girl fell prey to Edward’s temptations? They moved on and returned in a few decades when the memory of her had faded, as they had done before and would no doubt do again.
It really wasn’t rocket science! They all knew the laws and neither option was a particularly bad one to him. Either Edward got a good meal, or he had a chance at finding his epic love, his Rosalie, and he might stop brooding for the first time in over a century. Rosalie’s desire to kill the girl was understandable but so was Edward’s urge to protect her, but Emmett didn’t need to be Alice to know there was no future in all the realms of probability that could ever exist where Bella Swan would grow old and grey. Isabella was destined to die one way or another.
“Be safe.” Carlisle’s words made him snort, a smug grin crossing his lips as he opened the door.
“Me be safe? I’m the most dangerous thing out there.” He quipped. Emmett left without looking back. The forest flew past him in what should have been a blur of greens and murky browns, but his eyes saw every detail. Each crack in the bark, the dew glistening on cobwebs, the smallest of insects scuttling up the stems of leaves…it was all a gift to him. He would kill for Rose to see the beauty in it all as he did but she never would. Rose had had all her dreams taken from her by Carlisle long ago, and she was forever going to be bitterly frozen, trapped in her own cycle of self-loathing. He’d burn the world if it put the faintest smile on her face; had taken her to the most incredible places with the most astounding views, bought jewellery so expensive it made even the richest men shudder in disgust at his actions. The one thing that would make his love truly happy was the one thing he could never give her, but he had been thinking of ways to at least soften the heartache.
There was a house (a small ramshackle thing a few miles out from their own sleek residence) that he’d visited once or twice. He’d taken photos and done some minor fixing up of the place, making sure the roof no longer leaked, that the walls were weather-proof and so on. Emmett had laid floors, plastered walls…he’d made the small house viable once more and the only thing he had yet to do was take down a portioning wall between what he envisioned would be the kitchen and lounge space. It would be his anniversary gift to Rosalie, a place she could truly make her own, where she could build her own home. There may not be little feet pattering on the wooden floors, but he could give her two out of three couldn’t he? Renew their vows so they were confirmed husband and wife once more, help build her a home…
He slowed when he neared the site, his nose twitching. Emmett inhaled deeply, an odd mix of smells drifting up his nose. He didn’t remember peonies, and…was that lavender? Emmett approached his little project cautiously, straining all his senses to read his environment, predatorial instincts rising to the surface. A heartbeat, odd rhythm…no, two heartbeats? One slower, one faster, neither the same sort of pace or rhythm as any animal roaming the woods. Humans then? Emmett frowned deeply, struggling to understand why hikers would come all the way out here as he picked his way over the tree roots trying to trip him up, hand dragging over moss covered bark.
A billow of white was the first thing he saw, a sheet in the light breeze. It fluttered, surrounded by bright coloured clothes much too small to be adult sizes, and damp towels. There had been a brief moment of sun this morning but Emmett still had to scoff. Whoever had stolen his project from him was clearly no native to Forks or they’d have known better than to hang their laundry on the line at the slightest bit of sun. Sunshine rarely lasted in Forks. Emmett paused, looking at the fence now enclosing the house he had transformed with his own bare hands. He definitely hadn’t put that up, nor did he recall painting a fence bright green. He hadn’t installed a laundry line either but someone had driven that stake into the ground, the line coming from some sort of contraption nailed into the exterior of the house.
Someone was definitely living in his DIY project, and he was not-
“Shhhhh!”
Emmett was paralysed briefly by the little giggle that followed. It was a soft sound, full of innocence he could never recall having, and it came attached to the sound of scratching and squeaking. His brows pulled low over golden irises, his body moving of its own accord. It had to be a child, but who would leave a child alone in front of their house? Was it even supervised? His curiosity had piqued and though he wanted to be frustrated he just couldn’t be. Maybe Rose wouldn’t ever get to live in this house with him but someone else had clearly made it their home, someone who had achieved the dream Rose had always wanted. He wasn’t quite sure how he had managed it but he had to sigh, because only he could attempt to resolve his wife’s bitter disposition and end up adding to it instead.
He didn’t recognise her. From the exterior alone Emmett could tell that in the few weeks it had been since he’d last visited this place, she’d put a lot of effort into making the house a home. The outside had a fresh lick of paint, the windows clean and windowpanes a freshly painted grey, the front door a bright green to match the fence surrounding the house. A wooden picnic table had been added just in front of the kitchen window, and she was sat folded over with her head resting on her arms, eyes closed and skin peppered with goosebumps. Stray wisps of hair blew about her face as his eyes tracked down her figure, noting the gentle, even breathing and the way her eyes twitched about under their lids in her sleep. Beneath the picnic table was the source of the musical laughter.
Emmett crouched, forearms resting on his knees and lips curling into a small smirk as he watched a curly haired little boy press a marker pen to her leg, scribbling a design into her skin. She didn’t even appear close to waking, but the temperature had dropped and clearly the little boy had escaped from the playpen across from the picnic table, the door open and the locking mechanism snapped, paper strewn about the garden by the breeze. Emmett could see the dirt under her fingernails as he got closer, a pair of gardening gloves on her opposite side. She’d clearly done her laundry and a bit of gardening while the sun was out, leaving her son to play in his playpen, but the little boy had seen an opportunity once she’d fallen asleep and took it.
He had the cutest little dimples when he smiled, green eyes shining bright with mischief. Emmett chuckled lowly, zipping about the garden to clean up the papers he’d spotted before approaching the picnic table and clearing his throat.
“Excuse me, miss? Miss?” he called. Her eyes fluttered open, confusion evident in them for a second before she jumped, straightening in her seat and watching him with wary eyes. Emmett watched her glance to the playpen, her eyes widening. He could hear the way her heartbeat leapt in her chest, the panic stricken expression she wore telling.
“Oh my – no no no –“
“Erm Miss? Don’t panic, he’s under the table.” Emmett smiled, flashing his own dimples in an effort to calm her. He was a naturally unnerving being after all and most humans tended to be either hopelessly attracted to him or deathly afraid – there wasn’t really an in between. She whipped her legs out from under the picnic table, moving so swiftly Emmett was left in awe. She very quickly scooped her son out form under the table and swung him onto her hip, cradling him close and closing her eyes. Her heartbeat began to calm, her breathing growing less rapid now she knew where her boy was.
“Oh god, thank you. I…I guess I fell asleep, the weather was a lot nicer earlier,” She shivered a bit, hand cradling the back of her sons head until he wriggled in her grip. “Not now baby just – really? Oh Damian!” she groaned exasperatedly. Emmett watched amusedly as she licked her thumb and rubbed furiously at his cheek.
“No Mama! No!” the boy cried, squirming in her grip. His face was covered in marker pen, a mixture of blacks and blues and pinks all swirling over his cheeks and down his nose. Emmett couldn’t help but chuckle.
“He’s a real mischief maker huh? He got your leg to.” He informed her. She looked down to her leg with another soft groan, her cheeks turning pink.
“Sounds about right. Have you ever tried to renovate with children?” she questioned, shaking her head. Emmett shook his head, his eyes stuck on the little boy. He shared his mother’s dark hair though not her eyes. Emmett wanted to be upset his plans for Rose’s anniversary surprise had fallen through, but he had been stupid enough to not check the market for this property and it had gone to someone who clearly needed it, though the property was fairly out of the way and an odd choice for a young woman and her child. She seemed intent on making it somewhere nice to live for them both though, and for that he couldn’t fault her.
“Never had any of my own, but your boy sure is a handsome guy. I did renovate this place though, I’m glad it went to someone who needed it.” He admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. Her eyes widened, the surprise in them obvious.
“Oh! It was you! The real estate agent said they had no clue who had started the renovation’s, but it didn’t stop them selling it to me…we didn’t know it was taken.” She bit her lip, hoisting her son higher up on her hip. Damian was still wriggling slightly, looking up at Emmett with wide, curious eyes. It was clear what she was worrying about it, but Emmett shook his head, hands held up before her.
“It’s yours, really, me and my wife live nearby, this was a second property we didn’t really need. It wasn’t like I checked it was for sale or anything either, you won it fair and square.” He promised. The relief was palpable in her eyes as her son squirmed again. She set him down, hand running through his curls briefly before he darted back into the house. She watched him go with a small smile.
“Well I’d be happy to give you the tour of the place, if you like? Show you what I’ve done with it Mr….”
“Cullen, Emmett Cullen.” He introduced himself with a nod, knowing his frigid skin would put her off if he dared shake her hand, and he didn’t want to put her off. Emmett’s brain was spinning a hundred miles an hour, and he was starting to form a plan. Rose might not get to live in the house, but she could spend time perhaps with the one thing she wanted more than anything. Her smile brightened.
“Y/N L/N. Maybe if you give us a little time to clean up first you could drop by later? Neighbours seem rare out here, it’ll be nice to know someone.” She admitted, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. Emmett tilted his head slightly, glancing up at the house.
“Yeah. Yeah I er, would you mind if I bought my wife to? She had plans for this place, think she’ll enjoy seeing how you designed it for yourselves.” He said. She didn’t hesitate to nod and he tried his best not to feel too pleased with himself.
“Of course!” she agreed, and with a time organised between them Emmett sped off home to barrel his way into the garage. Rose was stuck beneath a car still, her BMW to be precise, though Emmett could never fathom what exactly she found to tune up on that thing – he was sure she spent more time under the car than under him. When she didn’t respond to his tapping on the hood, he pulled on her legs till she wheeled out, her expression sour and a smudge of grease across her cheek.
“Emmett.” She huffed. Emmett grinned down at her, completely unperturbed by her pouty glare.
“Rose. Come on, shower, dress up, do whatever it is you do, we got an appointment to keep.” He told her. Rose’s glare was enhanced by the way her nose wrinkled.
“An appointment? Emmett I swear if you’re trying to get me to go to marriage counselling again-“
“I’m trying to make you smile again.” He groaned exasperatedly. Her expression fell immediately, her golden irises softening from hardened topaz to gooey caramel. Emmett sighed, pulling her to her feet and reeling her in close. She was made for him, her body fit perfectly in his hands, against his. She was his shining light but she had been so dim since Bella had come to Forks.
“Emmett-“
“Rose, babe…I know you. I only have eyes for you. Who cares about some human? This family is immortal, we’ll survive it like we’ve survived everything else that comes our way. For one afternoon, just one, can I please, please have my wife back?” he pressed his forehead to hers, running a hand up and down her back. Rose remained tense for a while, but slowly her arms wound around his torso.
“What did you have in mind monkey man?” she tilted her chin, her lips a fraction of a centimetre from his own. Emmett’s smile returned.
“How’s about I take you to meet a really cute baby?”
By the end of the afternoon, seeing Rose smile at the young boy in her arms while he pretended to admire the newly fitted kitchen in Y/N’s house, Emmett started to understand what made her dream so beautiful, and so painful to wake from.

November 5
(AM)
In the moments when I’m lonely and longing for a life partner who lives with me and cooks for me and prods me to do the many projects around the house that need doing, I imagine what it will be like to make room in my house for another person. I’ve lived a long time, I contain multitudes, and each of those multitudes requires at least one room’s décor dedicated to it. This décor includes lighting, wall art, and hella knickknacks, which I’m learning are perhaps privileges and not rights. I am a terrible housekeeper. I keep the kitchen and the bathroom mostly liveable at all times, I scoop litterboxes regularly, and I do clean up obvious messes that are clearly out of place (cat vomit, food splatter, errant toiletries). I even keep up mostly with sweeping as I like to pad around barefoot or in socks.
But when it comes to, say, vacuuming the cat hair off the couch or dusting, I am Not Good. I’ve also lived alone for so long that I’ve gotten in the horrible habit of embarking on a Project – hanging knickknack boxes; reconditioning my leather goods in the wake of The Mold Issue (it was penicillin-ish, not the black stuff, praise the baby Jesus) – and quitting part of the way through (usually because of time constraints and a commitment of some kind), leaving the evidence scattered in my wake. (Currently on my floor are a pile of shoes, boots, and purses and some leather cleaner. My knickknack boxes and said knickknacks are strewn across the dining room table and the hearth of my wood stove. My intentions are good. I know that I want to complete these projects and honor the energy I spent starting them. Sadly, motivation and energy are not available On Demand in my life, and significant time elapses between the beginning of the project and the cleaning up of the aftermath.
I have cats. Cats come with shed hair and the occasional DIY beach simulation beyond the litter box. Dust happens. It happens with alarming regularity and perseverance. It’s most pronounced on the shelves that don’t get touched very often (all the stuff that’s just for looking at; the bookshelves that are too rarely visited). As my media consumption leans further toward streaming, dust has enveloped the stereo, CD racks, and TV console. If anyone besides me saw the state to which I’ve allowed my home to be taken over by the assorted cobwebs (imagine Ms. Havisham’s tablescape), I would have the sense to be ashamed. I would also shrug, rail against the social expectations that single home-owning women are expected to meet, and usher my guest out the door to attend whatever function has brought them over in the first place.
At this point it is fair to ask why I don’t just hire a cleaning service. Well. Remember that whole lack of energy and motivation thing? There are conditions in which I am willing to live, but I would never ask someone to clean up after me until my home was in some sort of organized and settled initial state. It’s been at least two and a half years since I can honestly say this has been the case. (That’s not even including the dresser drawer that is almost certainly on the bedroom floor.
First, the cats moved in. I took in the cats when they were three and their owner was moving out of state. His situation involved temporary lodging with a friend and the cats weren’t welcome, so Jack and Lily (formerly Jill) came to live with me. When they came, I’d been a cat-free home for just about a year. Long enough to get rid of litterboxes and food bowls, but not long enough to pull up the wall-to-wall carpet the house came with. And I really wanted to get the carpet up, as my dearly departed Bo, who is really the reason I bought this house, was bulimic for most of his life. And his life was a long one, so he had his own crotchety habits, which included peeing in places that were not the litter box. I cleaned up behind him to the best of my ability, but my guess was that new cats would be able to tell he’d left parts of himself behind. (Besides the handful of whiskers that I collected when they fell out. Did I mention I’m a witch?)
Since the cat acquisition was, on my timeline, relatively rushed, and my bookshelves and couch are heavy, I made the executive decision to cut what carpet I could get to away and go back for the remnants later. The cats are now six, this is officially their Gotcha month, and three years later, we’re all still living with those remnants and the exposed paint splattered plywood floor revealed by removing the carpet. (We’ve also learned a hard lesson about how much insulation that carpet provided in the winters since its removal.)
I had every intention of putting down new flooring, but that requires money. Which I had more of before The Mold Incident.
The Mold Incident announced itself most obviously on a leather duffel bag I brought home from India (21 inches long for $45 US and I had acquired more than my suitcase could hold) and a leather backpack I got in Italy (25 years ago). A person other than myself would have assessed and remediated the situation in a timely fashion, I imagine. I know people exist who don’t have anxiety about phone calls and who get things done rather than letting them pile up, and I wish one of them lived in my house. (Future significant other, I’m looking at [for] you.) I, on the other hand, let the situation continue to worsen until it was obvious that the problem was not going away, no matter how hard I ignored it.
One mold inspection later, I was assured that the mold was of the friendly green-ish antibiotic kind and not the deadly black kind, and assured that the problem was simply one of humidity. Encapsulating my crawl space and installing drainage and a sump pump would keep the mold from coming back. (Remember those two thousand-year floods that destroyed historic Ellicott City twice in three years? I live up the hill from historic Ellicott City and my town also flooded in that second storm. I knew that water was sitting in my crawl space when I saw a wet spot on my bedroom floor.)
Cleaning the mold that was already in the house would cost, I was told, somewhere around $5K. Or I could do it myself, using a one-to-one combination of white vinegar and blue Dawn. All I had to do was wipe down all of the walls, ceilings, furniture, and exposed surface. And launder every article of clothing in my closet and coat rack. A friend lent me a garment rack that lived in my dining room as I took everything out of the closet and put back the mold-free stuff, culling for things that could go to donation bags because my closet was Way Too Full.
I finally gave back the garment rack, but the pile of shoes and bags remains. And the cleaning every exposed surface fizzled out (though the bucket, rags, and ingredients remain at the ready). Encapsulating the crawl space required getting in there and cleaning everything out (the pile of mildewed insulation was…something), which required pulling up part of the floor in the spare room. (Where my contractor saw the places in the floor likely to cave in and installed three new joists to prevent that. He also replaced the part of the wall in the closet that was secretly a hole hidden under siding and, while he was at it, finished the siding on the house that was begun when he built me a new utility room.)
Are you tracking the costs that are adding up? Clearing the crawl space, installing the joists, hanging the siding, and finally the encapsulation itself. Altogether, I basically bought a new economy car and shoved it under my house. The only part of it I can see is the siding, and that’s not even the color I really wanted (because the color I wanted was “premium”; for the sake of all you hold holy get the big things the way you really want them if you possibly can [that should probably go for the small things too]). And my floors are still paint splattered plywood.
(PM)
The hanging of the siding knocked lots of pictures and knickknacks from the walls, which led to the removal of a shelf that held the knickknacks, which revealed paint that needs to be touched up. Well, there’s no point in doing the floors until the walls are painted. Okay, but there’s a fist-sized hole in the electrical panel in the spare room that needs to be patched first. Which I can finally get to now that the HVAC is installed. Did I mention the new HVAC system? Maybe it was a new midline car, one third of which is in the attic.
Where was I?
I’m learning, as I contemplate all of the things I have to move and decide whether to keep and clean, that ownership is one thing, but maintenance of stuff is a different issue. Maybe this is a thing other people learn when they are much younger. Addict. Depressed. Brain issues. Bear with me. I understand that cars involve maintenance costs; so do pets and children. And houses in general require upkeep that isn’t associated with other living situations. I knew relatively early on that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the costs of having a kid – even if I could make it work financially, there are no days off in bed when you’re a parent. I knew I’d made the right decision when a friend told me that for him, parenting made the highs higher and the lows lower. I can’t afford any lower lows.
So I don’t have kids, because on my own, I can’t afford them. I have a 15-year-old car that’s paid for, but also requires the occasional costly repair. It’s easier for me to coax occasional lump sums than a new monthly payment out of my budget, so I hold on to the car and maintain it to the best of my ability. I have a lot of books, which are pretty self-sufficient once they’re shelved, and theoretically it’s easy to wipe the dust from a bookshelf, unless you are a person who has so much stuff some of it gets propped up in front of the books. See if you can guess if I am that kind of person. (Spoiler: I am.)

23 Tips to Save You Money in the Home and Garden
Benjamin Franklin once said"a penny saved is a penny earned" and also to help you save more than just a few pennies around the house and garden, below are a range of money saving tips - many of which require minimal effort on your part.
Around the Home:
1. Switch off and unplug your appliances. Too many of us are guilty of leaving our appliances when they are not being used, yet this is a waste of energy and cash. Switching off our appliances and unplugging them has the capacity to save up to #30 annually.
Together with switching off, it is critical to ensure that you don't overcharge your appliances something 49 percent of us are guilty of according to one energy supplier.
2. Keep your refrigerator and freezer in their optimum temperatures, to guarantee the motors don't have to work harder than necessary. The perfect temperature for your refrigerator is between 3°C and 5°C, whilst to your freezer the temperature should be -18°C.
3. Turn it down. By turning the thermometer to your heating down by only 1°C you have the capacity to save about #85 - #90 yearly in your utility bills, and you are not likely to see the difference in temperature. Turning the water temperature back on your boiler will even help you to save money during the year.
4. Li> Fix broken appliances. It is all too easy nowadays when an appliance breaks, while it is a vacuum cleaner or washing machine, to throw it away and buy a new one. However, you might be wasting money unnecessarily.
Rather, by taking the opportunity to buy the necessary spare part and correct the appliance yourself, you can save money and improve your DIY knowledge.
5. 66% of the British people drink tea every day, but a lot people when brewing up are wasting money by filling the pot up with more water than is required. This requires your pot to use more energy than needed.
Re-boiling the water in your kettle may also impact on the flavor of the cuppa, and increase the build up of limescale minerals, which reduce the operation of the appliance. Restrict the energy you use every time you make a cup of tea by simply using the water that you need.
6. Switch to LED bulbs. The initial cost might be slightly more expensive, but the overall savings can be beneficial, with it being suggested that by altering 10 light fittings with 60W bulbs, to 6W LED bulbs will save you close to #240 annually. As an extra plus, LED bulbs arrive with an estimated life of 20,000 hours.
7. It might sound obvious, but if you are using your washing machine or dishwasher, be certain you do so whenever there's a complete load. This may work out cheaper than running two half loads, as less energy is being used.
8. When doing your laundry, save money by washing an economy wash that uses less energy, and utilizing tumble dryer balls when drying. The latter helps to create more space between clothes as they fall ensuring hot air gets to where it needs to go and reducing the drying period.
9. Cook various vegetables at the same time, rather than having them cook on various hob rings, use a steamer or segmented pans. The latter lets you cook several vegetables at once on a single ring - saving you energy and money. Steaming your meals is also a healthier option as it retains all of the nutrients in!
10. Become wise to your water use. Did you know, by way of instance, leaving your taps running is quite literally water down the drain? It is estimated that leaving the faucet running as we wash our teeth contributes to 6 litres of water every minute being wasted. Meanwhile, 5500 litres of water is wasted annually because of a dripping tap, which equates to #18 per year of wasted cash.
11. Cut out the drafts from your home, using draft excluders, letterbox covers and keyhole covers. All these simple devices will keep cold weather out of your house, reducing the odds of you needing your heating on - hence saving you money.
12. Keep your refrigerator and freezer well stocked. An almost empty refrigerator or freezer will observe the appliance cooling atmosphere, which makes it work harder. If your refrigerator or freezer is looking a bit empty, but you do not plan to go food shopping just yet, fill the space by:
I) using scrunched up paper to fill gaps in the freezer. II) using bottles of water from the refrigerator.
13. Take advantage of your tumble dryer less. Just because the sun is not out, it does not mean that your clothes won't dry out. When the weather is dry, then hang out the washing. By restricting the amount of time you use your tumble dryer, you can save anywhere between #30 and #100 annually.
In the Garden:
14. Plant Perennials - these are a terrific way to save cash in the backyard as once they are planted they will continue to grow annually. Some perennials that may help your garden become your own little piece of heaven include gaillardia, peonies, daffodils and chrysanthemums.
15. Grow your own fruit and vegetables - the British weather but you might not believe it, is terrific for growing your own fruit and vegetables. Growing your own fruit and vegetables may also help you save money and live a healthier lifestyle.
16. Say bye to slugs - slugs can be a nightmare for anglers, but it's possible to eliminate them without buying slug pellets. Using household products like beer, coffee grounds and vinegar can eliminate the danger of slugs from the plants.
17. Quit forking out on fertiliser, but continue to feed your meals. There is no denying that fertiliser is beneficial to plant growth, but it can be costly. Cut the price by creating your own. This can be done in a few ways:
1) Gather the leaves that cover your yard each fall and winter, set them in a bin bag whilst they are still wet and enable them to rot down. Whilst this will take as many as 2 decades, it's a more affordable alternative to buying fertiliser.
2) Make your own compost. From food peelings and egg shells, to cardboard and tea bags, all can be added to your compost bin, which if turned frequently and left to degrade can make excellent fertiliser for your plants without costing you a cent.
18. Use rain water wisely - there is no hiding from the weather in the united kingdom, but the rain could be put to great use. By collecting the rain water, then you get a continuous supply of free water to use during your garden and greenhouse.
General:
19. With as much as 60% of a home's energy coming out of the boiler, yours might be costing you considerable sums. It is recommended if your current boiler is 15 years old and no longer effective, you need to replace it.
Though this will cost you in the short term, in the long run you have the capability to find savings between #190 and #240 a year by switching to a high efficiency condensing boiler.
20. You'd be amazed just how much heat is lost through your roof and therefore how much money you are wasting. However, with effective insulation you can help keep your home warmer, your energy intake , and your bills reduced.
21. Recycle more. You could already be recycling your paper, tin, cardboard and glass waste, but there is much more you can recycle. Old cutlery can be turned into coat hooks, CDs may be utilised in the backyard to keep birds off your allotment, along with your old vinyl could be turned into wall art, cake stands or fruit bowls.
22. Become internet savvy and benefit from the great number of sites available where you can get products at no cost or sites where you could swap your unwanted products for different items.
23. Monitor your energy use. A simple energy monitor, can help you keep an eye on your current energy use, how much has been used in the past week, month, etc.. It'll also aid you in finding out how much your energy intake is costing you - allowing you to find ways to cut back, or locate those appliances that are using the most energy. From light bulbs to coffee bags – here's how to re-use household waste in the garden
In a bid to reduce waste and do our bit for the environment, we’ve dug out six tips on how to re-use household waste in the garden.
We’ve enlisted the help of garden experts at Garden Buildings Direct to share how households can be recycled most efficiently in our own gardens.

‘Doing our bit to save the planet has never been more important, and it’s true what they say – every little helps,’ says a spokesperson from Garden Buildings Direct.
‘Most things can be upcycled or re-used in the garden, if you think creatively enough. So, before you throw out your old lightbulbs or even food packaging, see if you can find another use for it outside.’

1. Plastic

While we wish to banish plastic bottles altogether, finding a way to re-use them is a good start. ‘Plastic bottles make great planters, including trendy vertical gardens and self-watering planters.’ say the garden experts.

‘Once the electrical components are removed, light bulbs make perfect homes for air plants and water-saving succulents.’ Who knew?!
The experts advise, ‘If you’ve never tinkered with a light bulb before, consult a tutorial. Then once your bulb is cleaned out, all you’ll need is some succulent potting soil and small potting pebbles – and your plants, of course.’
3. Lollipop sticks
‘Save lollipop sticks to make customised markers for your garden or seedlings. All you’ll need is a permanent marker and a reusable cloth.’ the spokesperson comments.
‘Apply a few drops of a solution of warm water and sea salt to the ends of your lollipop sticks, then use the reusable cloth to rub off any remaining stickiness. Let the sticks dry outside for at least an hour, then label them with permanent marker, and use them to mark plants in your garden.’
4. Glass
‘Glass bottles and jars can be used for sleeker self-watering planters, slow-release irrigation in beds or holders for rooting clippings.’
5. Packaging
‘Used packaging, such as bags from coffee or rice, can be opened carefully and reused for storing the next batch of beans from the garden, or seed collections.’
6. Old CDs

Within a couple of days of setting up my Windows and Apple OS bird scarer, Windows started doing things it wasn’t supposed to, tying itself in knots causing me to waste time sorting out problems that were of its own making. The Apple OS just kept going; sure, it may not be the most sophisticated solution, and some might say overpriced for what it does but it does a job #pluscachange #windows #appleos #upcycling #birdscarer

‘Using string or fishing wire, hang a few old CD discs off the branches of nearby trees or fix them to fences or walls to create a DIY bird scarer.’
And the reason being, ‘Birds are often deterred from landing on or near garden vegetables if their vision is distracted, and a shiny, reflective CD hanging near the garden provides just the right movement and distraction needed to keep the birds away.’

Want something bigger, what about those 5 litre plastic water bottles you have kicking around. Turn them into Tower Gardens by suspending them one under the other. Be sure to use striking colours to make them stand out.
If you need room for more plants, the only way is up. Perfect for small gardens and balconies. A plastic PVC pipe is fed through the bottles and work as a post to hold the different levels apart. The bottom most bottle had plaster of Paris poured in and around the PVC pipe. This doubles both as weight and to keep the center post in the middle.

10. DIY Recycled Plastic Bottle Piggy Planters
The steps have been documented by diyways.com but the original video can be seen below. It involves gluing four smaller bottles with screw cap still intact to the side of a big water bottle as trotters. Create a cross section cut-off on the top, leave bits for the ears, cut out the bottom of two small water bottles for the eyes, spray paint, glue the eyes and dot it.

11. Two DIY Plastic Pots You Can Make At Home
Here is a tutorial video by Backyard Crafts that shows you how to turn a plastic soda bottle and a washing detergent bottle into planters. You may need to make sure the detergent bottle stand on its side and does not tip over easily.

12. Vertical Garden – Hanging or Wall Mounted Garden
In this photo you will find three different types of vertical vegetable garden. These can be both indoor, shaded or outdoor. The first uses a series of soda bottles hung upside down and attached top to bottom. The second is a modified PVC pipe hung vertically with holes on one side, not quite the plastic bottles we cover here but there is more. The third is a series of soda bottle hung horizontally, each with a square hole cut off its side for the plants. Together they make for a perfect vertical garden. See photo below for comparison. My top ten BEST organizing hacks and projects!
It's that time of the year! Are you decluttering? Or as I like to call it, decrapifying? It's a GREAT feeling, right?
I don't do a massive purge every year anymore because I keep up with it throughout the year much better than I used to. I don't bring nearly as much into the house either. This decluttering method I shared with you years ago has really changed how I deal with stuff.
But I still like to lighten things around here around this time! Getting rid of crap is pretty much one of my favorite things to do.
THIS post is more about organizing what you do have though! I've gathered some of my absolute favorite organization DIY projects from over the years -- from both our old house and this home. I hope you'll find them as helpful as they have been for us!
Gift wrap and party supply storage
First up, a spot for the wrapping paper/party supplies. I utilized the wall space in our mud/laundry room closet for this:
You can see the sources for everything in that post, so check that out for more! I find, when in doubt it helps to go vertical with your storage. Utilizing wall space is so smart!
I used what are supposed to be plastic bag holders to store our wrapping paper:

You can see that whole, beautiful 😍 organized mud room closet here. It's my favorite.
Photo and kid art storage
This linen closet is another favorite -- it holds all kinds of random stuff. Tissues, candles and plug ins, toilet paper...stuff we reach for often. I use those basic boxes for photo storage:
You can see my whole post on how I store printed photos of all sizes here. I'd like to move those to a new location, but I haven't found the perfect spot for them just yet.
Another favorite for big photos or kid's art are these long, flat boxes I get from the Container Store:
I would buy one for every school year (sadly they aren't needed as much anymore as he gets older!) and would only allow myself what would fit in there. They are super sturdy and long enough to hold big art.
Hidden magnetic storage inside cabinets
This is one of my favorite little DIY hacks I came up with years ago. A project that went wrong turned into this hidden memo board and worked so well for us!:
I loved that they were easily accessible but also hidden away. It would also be a great spot to hold measuring spoons and cups if you use these little magnetic hooks!
CD/DVD/video game storage without cases
OK, OK. We're living in the Stone Age that we even still have these, I know. Maybe you'll completely gone digital with your music and movies, but I can't part with them!
I learned years ago that we could save SO MUCH space if I took them out of their cases to store them. These soft DVD cases hold a ton and will save you a crazy amount of space:
We use them for computer disks, movies, CDs and video games. (Back in the day I donated all of my plastic cases to a photographer but I'm not sure if they use them anymore or not?)
How to store little trinkets and tools
This tool storage with all of it's little drawers for tiny hardware has been SUCH a great storage system for my smaller items that used to be everywhere:
I used my trusty label maker to label everything. I couldn't live without this set of little drawers! I've had it for years and it's held up beautifully. The only issue I have is it's so heavy I can't hang it. I still need to find a good spot for it!
Organizing jewelry and shoes (in a pretty way!)
I shared how I switched my jewelry to these beautiful linen storage pieces here. These are still serving me really well and I've been really good about keeping things put away:
I don't think pretty organization is necessary by any means...but it does help, right? I find I just keep up with it more when it looks good!
You can see how I organize my short and long necklaces here as well:
That piece isn't made for necklaces but works so well!
You can also see how I organize our shoes in that post:
If you're lucky enough to have built ins in your closet, you probably don't need these see-through shoe boxes. But until I redo this closet and customize every inch, I love these plastic bins for shoes. I can see exactly what I'm looking for and they keep the shoes dust-free. Plus they stack and allow me to go vertical with my storage.
Actually, I'll probably keep them even when I do have beautiful shoe shelves someday! ;)
DIY Nerf gun storage
This is a random one, but an organizing project that saved my sanity! See how I created a Nerf gun storage wall here:
I recreated this in our new house, it worked so well! Although our boy is starting to grow out of them now. (I'm kinda sad but will NOT MISS THE BULLETS. 😂)
Utilizing storage space under kitchen cabinets
I have a couple of organizing tricks I use under the kitchen cabinets -- especially those with doors that become a deep abyss because you can't get to the back as well:
I've done the whole scrap wood shelf thing for years -- it allows me to use the whole space vertically. It works every time! I also try to store pans and cutting boards...basically anything long and flat, vertically. You can see how I used the awkward space above our fridge like I did here.
How to create storage space in closet corners
This is one of my favorite organization projects because it was so cheap and gave me SO much more usable space! If you have a standard, long closet -- take advantage of those back corners!:
You can see how easily I created this storage in the closet corners here. It really is an easy project, even for a beginner!
Coat closet organization hacks
And finally, my favorite coat closet organization tricks that I need to repeat in this house! This is a spot I haven't tackled yet in our new home and need to do. I did a few things in our old closet, including adding a shoe shelf, bag storage behind the door, and cubby organizers for winter gear:
These allowed me to take full advantage of the space in that closet and keep it organized! I plan to repeat a couple of these in our current coat closet.
There you go -- ten of my favorite DIY organization projects/hacks from over the years. They've all served us well! Most of them are super inexpensive and the do-it-yourself aspect is pretty easy.
Have you tried any of these after seeing them here? Do you have a favorite organization trick you use in your home?
