Femslash February 2025 - Day 1 - Remnants of Despair @danggirlronpa

It's Femslash February! I've always been on the outside for these since I never had the time, energy, or inspiration. But this year is different! This year I have Junkan! Based on my current pace it looks like I wasn't able to get EVERY prompt ready in advance, but my goal is to fill out this entire event with Junkan Art (Whether I succeed is yet to be seen). This'll of course be along side my Junkan Week contributions, so February is going to be a flood of even more Soft Junkan from me! It's like the 100 Days never even ended!

This may or may not include long rambles, oops! Sorry about that!

Anyway, today's prompt-

So like. This was gonna be a lot sillier originally, I was gonna make it into a halloween pic with Mikan questioning if the costume was overboard and Junko reassuring her. I couldn't get that to work so I went with option B where it's just angst.

I've talked in the past that I have a lot of mixed feelings on DR3, especially in how they portrayed the dynamic between Junko and Mikan. Even as I try to understand the more toxic angles people like to take this ship, I feel like it didn't even really play into those dynamics well either. I could however just be a bitch of course :P

Point is, the way Mikan was handled in the series did give me some ideas. My first time writing a Junkan Fic kind of covered it, but I find the idea of Junko not being attracted to the Remnant version of Mikan to be a pretty interesting angle. With her preferring Mikan back when she was still like, on her side and despairing, but before she dipped to do the first Killing Game and left her to go off the deep end.

So we got a visual metaphor that I don't know how to explain but should hopefully be easy to grasp on its own.

Summary: In a world where Yui survives, does the Tragedy change?

Yui Samidare still remembers the events leading up to the moment she died.

One of her girlfriend’s best friends asked the two of them to look into certain mysteries surrounding Hope’s Peak.  Her girlfriend, Chisa, took on a teaching internship that quickly became a full role so that she could do some light digging, with the understanding that if things got too dangerous, Yui would be called in.  Of course, Yui wasn’t unknown to the headmaster the way that Chisa herself was, which meant Chisa could get in deeper than Yui ever could.  Still – there wasn’t much to see that they hadn’t already, and even Chisa (and her best friend’s boyfriend) weren’t able to find much.

Then, a few months before the end of the school year, one of Chisa’s students, Chiaki Nanami, hired Yui to look into a missing person’s case.  A fellow student (from the Reserve Course, oddly enough) disappeared halfway through the school year, shortly after the murders of two of the other students.  (Yui wanted to ask Kyoko to look into those, but she knew better.  Besides, the school covered all of that up, and any attempt from a real detective wanting to poke their nose into things….  Well.)

Yui finally decided to pull some strings and step into her own internship, presiding over Kyoko’s class.

She…wasn’t very good at it.

But they were good kids, all of them.  A little troublesome at times, often at odds with one another, more than a few egos – but that’s Hope’s Peak!  She’d graduated from here, too, after all.  She knew what it was like!  And every single one of them knew about her relationship with Chisa, a fair few of them guessed at her semi-familial relationship with Kyoko, and two of them in particular kept giving her advice about ways she could propose.  One of those was harmless, but the other….

Junko Enoshima always felt familiar to her, but she was never able to put her finger on why.

Now she knows.

When Mikan disappeared – no, not disappeared, simply did not show up to class for multiple days – Yui searched for her, too.  This was easier; people had seen Mikan much more recently than they’d seen Hajime, and all routes to Hajime pointed towards Hope’s Peak in a way that seemed…bad.  (Kyoko helped look for him.  Then her father asked her to look for someone named Izuru, and Kyoko asked Yui to join her – not because Kyoko wasn’t a good enough detective in her own right, but because disappearances and missing persons was Yui’s specialty.  Kyoko eventually got distracted with the murders of the student council members, and Yui found—

Sometimes, it feels like Junko is lying to her.)

Yui found Mikan.  She found Mikan and Hajime and Izuru because Hajime and Izuru were one and the same, and she has always been a sacrificial lamb for someone else’s slaughter, so of course, it would be that way, too, when she sent the other students away and stayed behind.

But Junko didn’t attack her.  Just tilted her head to one side and murmured, “Yui onii-sama, I believe you still owe me a kiss.”

Now she knows.

Chiaki dies to break her classmates.

But Chisa’s death would not break Yui in the same way that Yui’s death would not break Chisa.

It’s the impossible choices that break Yui.  She cannot save anyone, not even Junko herself, but she’ll try.  Because Junko could be good.  Lico could be good.  She’d seen it.  Maybe, if she’d done a little better, then Junko – then Lico—

Yui knows and says nothing, and the saying nothing breaks her.

Chisa knows that something is wrong that Yui won’t say, and that unspoken thing between them breaks them both.

When Yui forgets everything in the Killing Game that Junko starts, she remembers three people: Kyoko, Lico, and Chisa.  She doesn’t know why she remembers them.  The new headmaster tells her to kill someone to save them. (Yui is a sacrificial lamb.  She dies instead, unaware just how much of this Game was her design.)

Wooah boy have I not been keeping up with posting what I've been writing to this blog. Nor have I been posting a lot to this blog. Partially because oh boy, has my health been bad already this year, so I haven't really been active anywhere. But! We have things to catch up on! Not a lot, because again: health issues, so I haven't been writing as much as I normally do, but. Still some.

First off, my Naejunko week fills. Posting here super late (already February when these were done in December, but. You know) so I don't really expect a reblog from people who run Naejunko week, but I thought my followers may be interested in it.

Naejunko Week, 2024, in all its glory. Also doubles as what I did for Junko's birthday; I know in 2023 I said that in 2024, I'd do a sequel to my big Junko character study, but uhhh. Yeah that didn't happen. Hopefully I can do that this year but I refrain from making promises (this time).

Now... I also did another installment of my Danganronpa/Bungou Stray Dogs crossover work, which... I debated including here but like, I did say crossover ships would count. So take (suck it up), which covers Mikan's HPA days in my BSD/DR crossover. Also includes Junkan, but is more focused on Mikan/Chuuya/Dazai. You can take or leave that one.

Next! I posted two new chapters of This is a Feature, Not a Bug. With the last one having an extreme Komanami focus. I definitely had fun writing that one, but it's definitely kind of "moments taken before disaster" because it's the last work I posted before a cyst I had burst :') Komanami tried to kill me, guys.

Now we're onto what I've been posting recently. Femslash February!! I did not have any of these works prepared like I normally would; they're being written as I go, because of my aforementioned health issues kicking my butt, making it hard for me to have been prepared. January was a month of many health issues, I'll tell you that much.

I'm using @danggirlronpa 's Danganronpa Femslash February prompts for this (and I will hopefully make separate posts for all the days after these first three, lol).

First day was for the prompt "remnants of despair" and I wrote to fizzle, which was about Hiyobuki in a world where the tragedy just sort of... faded without Junko to keep the momentum. Inspired by @mystxmomo 's work, something close to domestic, maybe. The backstory to this is when that work was coming out, I wrote a Hiyobuki work inspired by it... only to lose those files and scrap the whole thing as consequence 😭😭😭 decided to try my hand at rewriting the concept, though.

Second day was the ghost prompt, and I wrote Junkan! The thing with this is that I had already written ghost!Junko for Junkan Week (which hasn't come out yet; those works go up starting on the 11th), so I was like... what do I do for the ghost prompt this time?? I decided to write something of a prequel to the ghost Junkan I already wrote. So that's what eat me as I am is.

Lastly, for the third prompt, nail polish, I at first wanted to write Kaemugi, as I feel like that's very Kaemugi coded of a prompt, but I've already done Kaemugi with nail polish before, multiple times, so like... what more can I say? So instead, I pivoted to Junko! Since I do also associate nail polish with her. Specifically, I did Peko/Junko for this prompt... which honestly thinking about now may have partially been inspired by @midnightdemonhunter 's Peko/Junko art. The work, to be used is to be valued, is it not? Is all about Peko/Junko.

And now you're all caught up! Honestly hopefully from now on I can stay on top of this. Definitely not the best at these kinds of things, but I'll try.
