[ad_1] Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant at the practice session at the MCG (PC: Debasis Sen) Rishabh Pant has been named in the Delhi Ranji Trophy squad, but it will be Ayush Badoni who will continue to lead the side when they take on Saurashtra in Rajkot from January 23. Pant, being a senior player, was offered the captaincy by the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) for the next round of Ranji Trophy games, but he politely refused it, stating that it would be unfair on Badoni and other Delhi teammates, if he suddenly joined the team for a round or two and started leading the side. Pant called up DDCA president Rohan Jaitley to confirm his availability for this penultimate round of Ranji Trophy group league games, following which he was named in the shortlist. Pant has led Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he is also seen in certain quarters as a potential India captain going ahead in the longer format. However, he showed maturity by turning down this offer. It can’t be overlooked that he put Delhi’s team environment ahead of personal gains. This could have been an opportunity to enhance his leadership credentials. Virat Kohli has also been included in the squad, though his participation remains subject to availability. Interestingly, Kohli had suffered a neck niggle during the Sydney Test against Australia and was treated by the Indian team’s doctor/physio at the venue. On Thursday, the BCCI introduced a 10-point guideline for India’s contracted men’s players to “promote discipline, unity, and a positive team environment.” A crucial point in the document is the mandatory participation of players in domestic cricket. Non-compliance might result in loss of selection for international assignments and potentially impact central contract renewals. Further, no exceptions would be entertained, except for in “extraordinary circumstances,” which would require approval from the head of the selection committee. Pant was last seen in the gruelling five-Test series in Australia and is likely to feature in the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against England, which will be followed by the ICC Champions Trophy.     The post Pant puts Delhi team above personal interest, refuses Ranji Trophy captaincy appeared first on Sports News Portal | Latest Sports Articles | Revsports. Rohan Jaitley Set for Another Term as DDCA President After Strong Election Lead
Rohan Jaitley, the son of the late Arun Jaitley, is set to secure another term as the President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), as the election results indicate a decisive lead in his favor. After the counting of 1,900 votes, Jaitley was ahead with 1,239 votes, compared to his challenger Kirti Azad’s 610 votes. The total votes cast in the election amounted to 2,463, signaling a strong mandate for the incumbent president.
Tumblr media
A Strong Victory for Rohan Jaitley as DDCA President
Rohan Jaitley, currently serving as DDCA President, has now positioned himself to continue leading the association after a comprehensive victory over former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad. Jaitley was first appointed to the role of DDCA President in 2020, taking over the position unopposed, and was re-elected the following year after defeating advocate Vikas Singh by a significant margin. Now, with the looming election results, Jaitley is on track to win another term, further solidifying his leadership in Delhi cricket.
Vote Count Details: After counting the votes, Jaitley led with 1,239 votes, while Azad only garnered 610 votes.
Election Participation: A total of 2,463 votes were cast in the election for the role of DDCA President.
Controversies and the Upcoming Administration
The closest contest in the election appeared to be for the post of secretary, where Ashok Sharma, part of Jaitley’s faction, competed against Sanjay Bhardwaj and Vinod Tihara. Sharma led the charge with 688 votes, edging out Tihara, who had 606 votes at the time of reporting.
Jaitley addressed the election's outcomes, suggesting that the voters had acknowledged the progress made under his leadership. “Right now, the members have seen what we have done over the last three years, and it seems like they are going to give us another opportunity to serve them,” said Jaitley. “Having selective criticism with only the intent of contesting elections doesn’t fly. Organisations don’t become good or bad within the preceding 30 days of an election,” he added.
Secretary Contest: Ashok Sharma emerged as the frontrunner for the role of secretary with 688 votes.
Jaitley's Vision: Jaitley reiterated that his administration’s achievements would speak for themselves and emphasized the continuity of their vision for the future of Delhi cricket.
As Rohan Jaitley is poised to be re-elected as DDCA President, his second consecutive term would bring continuity to the development of cricket in the capital, including focus on infrastructure, youth development, and transparent administration.

Scandal Unfolds: Rohan Jaitley, DDCA President, Faces Serious Allegations Amidst Factional Strife
In a shocking turn of events, Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and son of the late Union Minister Arun Jaitley, finds himself ensnared in a web of serious allegations, including charges of sexual abuse and financial impropriety. The scandal, rocking the DDCA, has further exposed the deep divisions within the association.
Tumblr media
The controversy erupted on February 22 when a woman, known to Jaitley, filed a complaint with top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In her detailed complaint, she accused the DDCA chief of exploiting his official position to solicit both sexual and financial favors. A second complaint has now surfaced, with a Mumbai-based model leveling grave allegations of sexual abuse against Jaitley. The latter complaint, submitted to the BCCI's POSH Committee (Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment) on July 19, adds another layer of complexity to the already turbulent situation.
Notably, neither of the complainants has taken the matter to the police thus far. Despite the gravity of the accusations, sources close to Jaitley dismiss them as falsehoods orchestrated by DDCA members who faced defeat in recent cricket body elections. According to these sources, the absence of legal action indicates the baselessness of the charges.
However, the allegations don't end there. Former Additional Solicitor General Vikas Singh has sent a scathing email to Jaitley, accusing him of attempting to manipulate competition and favor a specific architectural firm for major contractual jobs within the DDCA, particularly those related to the World Cup matches scheduled to be held in Delhi this year.
The DDCA, already a bitterly divided entity, is witnessing a power struggle with celebrity cricketers and prominent politicians vying for control. As Delhi braces itself for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in October-November, the drama within the DDCA is expected to intensify.
In another political arena, the Pawar family and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are grappling with internal strife. The splinter group, led by Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel, is in talks with BJP leadership about potential collaboration. Despite the discussions, Ajit and Praful are reportedly attempting to convince Sharad Pawar to switch allegiance from Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Meetings between the breakaway leaders and Sharad Pawar have taken place, where they conveyed the BJP's offer, which includes induction into the Union Cabinet with a significant portfolio and a respectable share of seats in upcoming elections. However, post-split surveys indicate that the NCP's voter base remains largely loyal to the senior Pawar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to have conceded to the demands of the NCP breakaway group but is yet to make a final offer to Sharad Pawar. The political game in Maharashtra continues as the state navigates the intricate dynamics leading up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
