DP x DC Prompt/notion # 5
Bruce finished logging the last details of tonight’s patrol and reluctantly pulled up contingency file PT-961. “Hnn,” he grunted to the empty cave, staring at the folder on screen but making no move to open it yet. His children were all out for the evening with various excuses: doing research on a case, homework, visiting a friend, etc. He knew they were really with Fenton for a movie night of course…the third such movie night in the last several months since they started sneaking over to visit the man.
He'd put this off long enough, making excuses to himself about assessing the situation before coming to any conclusions, it was past time he did something about it.
Cli-click. There. The file was open.
He’d made this contingency plan years ago, creating it only a days after Dick had moved into the manor and updating as needed as the family had grown but it hadn’t been touched for years.
PT-961 In The Event That More than 50% of the Children Form an Attachment to a New Parental Figure (see file HM-962 if less than 50%) 1. Initial Research: a. Attachment levels – see pages 1-36, graphs I-XLVII b. Assessment of New Parental Figure c. Background and character 2. Intentions – harmful a. If wanting money see contingency files (GD-01 to GD-207) b. If mind control – magic see contingency files (SMM-M-01 to SMM-M-508) c. If mind control – science see contingency files (NAM-ES-01 to NAM-ES-904) d. If criminal intentions see contingency files (CAP-C-201 to CAP-C-508) 3. Intentions – positive a. Option 1. Hire them - See Family reaction projections pages 37-75 - See likelihood of job acceptance pages 76-94 - See possible outcome projections pages 95-127 Note: Option 1 has the highest likelihood of job acceptance and a positive outcome in the event New Parental Figure has an annual income of less than $42,300 and/or is greater than or equal to age 57. b. Option 2. No interference/Let the Children decide what to do - See Children’s time projections pages 128-209, graphs XLVIII-LXX - See possible mission/patrol interference scenarios pages 210-293 - See possible outcomes pages 294-362 Note: Projections for Option 2 show a near 100% likelihood of interference with patrols/mission. Note: Interference resulting in increased potential for injury or delay in treatment of injuries estimated to be 68-94% more likely. c. Option 3. Custody arrangement - See potential arrangements pages 363-482, graphs LXXI-XC - See possible outcomes pages 363-401 Note: The majority of projections show Option 3 is unlikely to be successful. Both the children and New Parental Figure are predicted to be uncooperative in time and custody arrangements with no other controlling factors. d. Option 4. Engage in a relationship - See family reactions page 402-481 - See New Parental Figure reactions pages 482-568 - See possible outcomes pages 569-757 Note: For possible romantic or similar relationships see contingency files (DM-401 to DM-879) Note: In the event Option 1 is nonviable, Option 4 has the highest likelihood of a positive outcome. e. Option 5. Arrange for New Parental Figure to leave - See contingency files (ROI-G-301 to ROI-G-809) Note: High likelihood of one or more children discovering the arrangement for the removal of New Parental Figure leading to high likelihood of estrangement. Also likely to be ethically questionable.
Bruce double checked his notes on Daniel James Fenton. He was 2 years younger than Bruce, earned a high income as a freelance engineer and had multiple patents that gave him enough passive income from royalties that he could easily maintain his current lifestyle without working. There were no indications of any criminal history or ill intentions and thus far all of his interactions with the children appear to have been positive. More than positive given that every single one of his kids was now “secretly” (or secretly in so far as they were aware) spending time with him.
He steepled his hands in front of his face and focused on the data displayed on screen.  The best option to take in this case was obvious.
*****
Ding-Dong! “I’m coming!” Danny yelled as he dropped the laundry basket on the couch and headed for the front door. “Why is there always a package delivery on laundry day?” he muttered to himself. Well, hopefully the delivery guy wouldn’t mind his no clean laundry ensemble. Surely, they’d seen worse than Danny’s ancient, too small NASA t-shirt and the bat themed pajama pants Sam bought for him when he moved to Gotham.
“Hi there, sorry I was doing laundry and…uhh…you’re not the delivery guy”. Danny stared at a sharply dressed smiling man holding a dozen roses on the other side of his door.
“No, I’m Bruce Wayne. I-“
“Oh, shit”
Bruce’s eyes narrowed. “You know.”
“Umm…” Danny gulped. He was not expecting to deal with Batman on laundry day! “Yes?” He straightened himself, squared his shoulders and looked Bruce Wayne AKA Batman, the father of the kids that his core had recently come to recognize as his own, in the eyes. “Yes,” he said firmly. “I know.”
“Hnnn…” Bruce’s voice dropped a few octaves. Not quite Batman’s signature growl but much lower than he had been speaking. “Well then, that simplifies things. These are for you. Would you like to go out to dinner with me?”
“…What?!”

Note
do you have any dickbabs reading recommendations (especially if they're babs focused)? I read batgirl year one and some nightwing too, but I would love to delve deeper into their relationship
thank you sm in advance 🙏
They just don’t do slow burn in comics like Dickbabs anymore ️
If you’re coming right off batgirl year one (masterpiece. Redefined my life. Forever altered my brain) I definitely recommend you read Nightwing Year one as well, (starts at issue #101 of Nightwing (1996)
In this list I have included everything I can, but If I missed anything significant please feel free to let me know!
Pre-Crisis:
Tumblr media
Detective Comics (1937): #359
The Batman Family (1975): #1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20

Batman Chronicles (1996): #9
Some of the best and most beautiful dickbabs moments come from birds of prey, and they give a great look into Babs’ side of things too! I recommend reading Bop and Nightwing alongside each other (If you can!) And I alos recommend you read some Batman arcs like Cataclysm, No Man’s Land and Bruce Wayne, Murderer? They show Dick and Babs working together and with the batfam. Fun Fact and slight spoiler for the ending of No Man’s Land, The ending scene where Dick and Helena randomly kiss was supposed to be between Dick and Babs, but someone messed up, and Rucka kinda just thought Dick was a horndog so no one fixed it 💔 there is still some good Dickbabs moments within that arc tho
Birds Of Prey (1999): #8, 19, 20, 23-61, 71, 76, 86
Robin (1993): #71
Gotham Knights: #17, 18, 26, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 42, 43
Harley Quinn (2000): #10-12
DC One Million (1998): #1 , 3
DC Universe Holiday Bash (1997): #2
Batman: Black Mirror (they aren’t together in this but it’s still important reading for their relationship imo and a fascinating/thrilling Dick!bats story with lots of Oracle besides)
Nightwing Annual 2 (for the conclusion of the proposal from Nightwing #117)
Li’l Gotham (2013): #1, 7, 10, 17

Jimmy Olsen, DC's Greatest Hero
Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #1 (1954), is the comic that proved that Superman was a license to print dirty, stinky money. Can you believe that Jack Kirby used this mag to introduce Darkseid?
Tumblr media
I'm gonna be honest with you, I'm already running out of things to say. It might have just been a mistake to try and recap literally thousands of issues of comic books. I really don't want to be overly negative here, for a few reasons.
First, some of my first exposure to comics were these old Superman and Superboy stories. I can't say they're my favorite, but they mean a lot to me, and I know they mean a lot to a lot of people. Second is that there is a lot of imagination at work here. It takes a lot of creativity and work to come up with four separate stories a month, and writing a good short story can be harder than writing a good issue or a good multi-part story. Finally, I think it's really important to appreciate all forms of artwork, especially in media that are easy to dismiss, like comics. I made my page header a panel from Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" because it's a seminal work in understanding comics as art.
These next few years of Superboy, though... I don't know. I don't want to write it off but it's just not doing much for me. It's not good enough or bad enough to be interesting, but it's not really effective enough at the formula to be comfortable.
So we're going to skip forward to 1954, the first few issues of Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, the greatest hero in all of DC comics.
Tumblr media
I was honestly surprised by how good these comics are. Like okay, there's a fair amount of stories where Jimmy turns into a giant lizard or drinks a magic potion and gets superpowers but it's all a dream, and a preconception that he has to always call Superman to help him out of his scrapes. Those, I feel, are outliers in the series. Most of the time, Jimmy Olsen is on his own solo adventure with Superman out of reach, and forced to rely on his wits, his courage, and a strong right hook for a man in a bow tie.
The best part is that, unlike Batman, Jimmy was never trained for this. He has a bachelor's degree in journalism and weighs 95 pounds soaking wet. He is a ginger twink with a fist of gold and will throw away his very life in pursuit of a hot scoop. You can tell that the Snyderverse had no idea what it was doing when it killed him off in a deleted scene, because the real Jimmy Olsen could have taken out that whole terror cell.
There's a real sort of Tintin vibe to these stories, without the racism. ...well, with less racism. I did not come into this Tumblr post expecting to endorse the adventures of Jimmy Olsen but here we are. I can't wait to see him meet Darkseid!
Tumblr media
Before the official/unofficial beginning of the Silver Age back/forwards in Superman #76, there were a few stories that were retroactively put into the Silver Age despite appearing in the Golden Age of comics, far before the idea of Earth One was a glint in Gardner Fox's eye. For example, Two-Face originally appeared in Detective Comics #66 (1942), and got his face healed in Detective Comics #80 (1943). Two-Face later appeared in Batman #81 (1954), but it wasn't established that this was Earth-One Two-Face until 1981, and the previous appearances were Earth-Two Two-Face, who was now One-Face.
There are other examples of this, such as Catwoman and the Riddler, Ace the Bat-Hound, and Batman's most difficult trivia answer, Batman Jones. That is his legal name. Likewise, Superman stories that mention his time as Superboy are considered to take place on Earth-One, and stories without are considered to take place on Earth-Two. Because these books are anthologies, you would have Earth-One and Earth-Two stories in the same issue, again, retroactively.
The switchover was made around the end of 1955, which is when the Silver Age really started to kick off. Wonder Woman wouldn't switchover until 1958, because, as it is now, as it was then, DC did not know how to handle her. Really, though, this time period is such a mess that DC created two alternate universes to dump their continuity errors in. And then the Anti-Monitor fucking ate them.
Anyway, this post was a mess. Next time hopefully my brain works better. Until next time.

Ok, I have now mopped up every extraneous storyline in my reread and I HAVE to start War Drums and War Games (and then I’ll do Identity Crisis afterwards, because goddamn is 2004 the start of the Grim Times)
Last thing I finished today was Nightwing #91-#95, so you know, I have been having some thoughts about Devin Grayson as a writer.
I’m very fond of Devin Grayson’s run on Gotham Knights, putting aside #16-17 and #20-21, the four issues focused on Dick Grayson only. I…don’t think that’s unusual; I think it shows the issue at hand.
I don’t think she’s a bad comics writer. She has objectively written clever, interesting comics that I have enjoyed reading. Most people would say GK Transference and 24/7 are great comic stories. After some thought, I think the issue for many DC fans is primarily that Dick Grayson is her all time fave but her headcanons about Dick long since departed from what other writers were doing with the character and she’s largely a fan of the secret Dick Grayson who lives in her head. And then she was handed the Dick Grayson book to write. It was a situation doomed to cause issues.
I’m not having a go at anyone for having “secret better version of a character who lives in your head”, we’ve all fallen foul to it on occasion. But the test case for whether letting someone who feels this way about a character write their comics is “are the fandom willing to go along with this”. Sometimes they are (please see Wally West’s backstory and supporting cast reappearing by sheer stubbornness of the fans and a handful of writers). Sometimes you’ve just pissed off your entire fandom while writing a whump storyline because you want to torture your favourite before getting to the catharsis (Devin Grayson).
Heck, if you look at what was the probable pitch for Grayson’s run up to #95, it’s…just a break the cutie whump run. Dick’s life falls apart, orchestrated by one of his nemeses, as his entire rogues gallery get the chance to attack him. We’ve all read this before. It’s the plot of Knightfall. The Maxine Michaels plot is supposed to be a Vicky Vale/Vesper Fairchild style story. We’ve seen these stories work and enjoyed them; the major difference is that they had resolutions. Devin Grayson never got to the redemption/catharsis bit of the story. I don’t know why.
The EXECUTION of the whump run however went far too hard in killing off supporting cast members and became egregious in parts (no really, why are we blowing up Haly’s Circus. And the apartment block. Why) and then, you know, #93-95 happened. But the starting idea wasn’t necessarily bad.
There’s even two issues in Grayson’s run up to #95 that I really like (#76 and #81) and I think that entirely comes down to the fact the storytelling picks up immediately when Devin Grayson is focusing on a character OTHER than Dick (Amy Rohrbach and Cass, respectively).
The issue isn’t so much “Devin Grayson is a bad writer”. The issue is that “Devin Grayson should not have been allowed to be Dick Grayson’s primary writer” and she should instead have been given books about characters she’s less obsessed with and worked out her desires to make her fave suffer by writing more fanfic.

The top 100 best Wonder Woman stories
Im going to preface this with the confession that this is not a list I am entirely satisfied with, with some titles on this which I stuck in because I felt they brought something interesting to the character of Wonder Woman or her mythology.
I will also heavily emphasize that I did not in any way, shape, or form attempt to organize this list from best to worst. This was the result of me spending days considering what stories across Wonder Womans portfolio warranted recognition and jotted them down as I went along.
Some time in the future I may revise this by either changing the selection, or perhaps someday I will be mad enough to try organizing it by level of quality. But for now...I present what I consider 100 of the best Wonder Woman stories.

A Beginner’s Guide to Choosing the Right Inverter for Home Solar Systems
Switching to solar energy is a smart move—not only for the planet but also for your wallet. But while solar panels get most of the attention, there’s a silent hero behind every efficient solar setup: the inverter. If you’re planning to go solar and feeling overwhelmed by inverter choices, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered!
In this beginner-friendly guide, we’ll break down what solar inverters do, the different types available, and how to pick the best one for your home—especially for Indian weather conditions.
What Does a Solar Inverter Do?
Think of a solar inverter as the brain of your solar power system. Its job is to convert the DC (direct current) electricity produced by solar panels into AC (alternating current) electricity—what your home appliances actually use.
Without an inverter, your solar setup is pretty much useless. Types of Solar Inverters
There are three main types of inverters used in residential solar systems:
1. String Inverters
Most common and cost-effective
Connects a series of solar panels in a "string"
If one panel underperforms (due to shade or dust), the whole string’s efficiency drops
2. Microinverters
One installed per solar panel
Each panel operates independently, so shading on one doesn’t affect the others
More expensive, but great for rooftops with partial shading
3. Hybrid Inverters
Combines solar inverter and battery inverter in one
Ideal if you plan to install solar batteries now or in the future
Smart choice for backup power and better energy management
What to Consider When Choosing an Inverter
✅ Power Rating & Compatibility
Make sure the inverter’s capacity matches your solar panel setup. Undersized or oversized inverters can lead to power loss or even system failure.
✅ Efficiency
Look for inverters with a higher efficiency rating (above 95%). Brands like Polycab offer inverters with excellent output even during peak summer temperatures.
✅ Durability in Indian Climate
India's summers are no joke. Choose an inverter designed to withstand high temperatures and offer smart cooling features—like the Polycab inverters, specially engineered for Indian conditions.
✅ Warranty & Support
Most quality inverters come with a 5–10 year warranty. Also, ensure that the brand offers strong after-sales support.
Why Polycab Inverters Are a Smart Choice
At Solar4All, we recommend Polycab inverters for several reasons:
🌡️ Smart cooling tech to beat the summer heat
⚙️ Stable performance in high-temperature environments
🔋 Reliable output even on the longest sunny days
🇮🇳 Designed specifically for Indian conditions

DND Magic Items: Hat of Many Spells
Type: Wondrous Item
Rare: Very Rare
Type of Item: Arcana
Attunement: Yes
Requirement: You must be a Wizard to attune to this item
This pointed hat has the following properties.
While holding the hat, you can use it as a Spellcasting Focus for your Wizard spells. Any spell you cast using the hat gains a special Somatic component: you must reach into the hat and "pull" the spell out of it.
While holding the hat, you can try to cast a level 1+ spell you don't know. The spell must be on the Wizard spell list, it must be of a level you can cast, and it can't have Material components costing more than 1,000 GP. Once you decide on the spell, you must expend a spell slot of the spell's level. Then, to determine whether you cast the spell, make an Arcana check (DC 10 plus the spell's level). On a successful check, you cast the spell using its normal casting time, and you can't use this property again until you finish a Short or Long Rest. On a failed check, you fail to cast the spell and a random effect occurs instead, determined by rolling below.
Any spell you cast from the hat uses your spell save DC and spell attack bonus.
Roll a d100
1-50: You cast a random spell determined by rolling 1d10: on a 1,Enlarge/Reduce (enlarge effect); on a 2, Enlarge/Reduce (reduce effect); on a 3, Faerie Fire ; on a 4, Fireball ; on a 5, Gust of Wind; on a 6, Invisibility (cast on yourself); on a 7, Lightning Bolt; on an 8, Phantasmal Force; on a 9, Polymorph ; on a 10, Stinking Cloud .
51-55: You are Stunned until the end of your next turn, believing something awesome just happened.
56-60: A harmless swarm of butterflies fills a 10-foot Cube within 30 feet of yourself. The swarm disperses after 1 minute.
61-65: You pull a nonmagical object out of the hat. Roll 1d4 to determine the object: on a 1, a vial of Acid; on a 2, a flask of Alchemist's Fire; on a 3, a Crowbar; on a 4, a lit Torch.
66-70: You suffer a bout of "magic sickness" and are Poisoned for 1 hour.
71-75: You are Petrified until the end of your next turn.
76-80: You pull a nonmagical object out of the hat. Roll 1d4 to determine the object: on a 1, a Dagger; on a 2, a Rope with a Grappling Hook tied to one end; on a 3, a bag of Caltrops; on a 4, a gem worth 50 GP.
81-85: A creature appears in an unoccupied space as close to you as possible. The creature isn't under your control and acts as it normally would, and it disappears after 1 hour or when it drops to 0 Hit Points. Roll 1d4 to determine the creature: on a 1, a Camel; on a 2, a Constrictor Snake; on a 3, an Elephant; on a 4, a Mule.
86-90: A Hostile Swarm of Bats flies out of the hat, occupies your space, and attacks you.
91-95: A vertical, 10-foot-diameter, two-way portal to another plane of existence opens in an unoccupied space within 30 feet of you and remains open until the end of your next turn. The DM determines where it leads.
96-100: You pull a magic item out of the hat. Roll 1d6 to determine the item's rarity: on a 1-3, Common; on a 4-5, Uncommon; on a 6, Rare. The DM chooses the item, which disappears after 1 hour if it's not consumed or destroyed before then.
