can you do a lily salvatore analyzis please?
I don't like Lily, but I'll be honest about her character.
She was married to Giuseppe at a time when women had no rights. In fact, wife-beating wasn't made illegal until the 1900s. Women weren't wives, they were property, and their husbands had legal power over them. That's why Lily doesn't simply leave her husband despite his abuses against their children. At that time, women didn't even have the right to keep their wages or so much as own property. So she's hoarding money for the sole purpose of disappearing with her children.
When Lily was dying of consumption, she was sent away by Giuseppe, and was being cared for by a nurse at a hospital. What they term "hospice" care, which is all manners of care for people as they near the end of life. This nurse fed Lily her blood, so when she died, she was put in transition. Lily completed her transition to vampire, and upon returning to her children, felt the craving of human blood. Her hunger for human blood gave her reason to abandon both her children for their safety. So despite Giuseppe's abuse, she felt she was more of a threat to them than their father was.
I view her heretics as replacements. She distracted herself from the children she left behind by basically adpoting. Even though she's not part of her sons' lives, she checks up on them via her adopted children. She sent Valerie to check up on Stefan and Oscar to check up on Damon. At the time, both Valerie and Oscar were human. The problem Lily has isn't so much that she doesn't love her sons, it's that she connected with her heretics because they've been part of her life for so long. She never got the chance to bond with her children. That's why she can't choose between her biological child and her adopted child. She'd rather die than lose either.
Julian was meant to be just as abusive as Giuseppe because abused women are known to repeat the cycle. She has her "woke" moment, but honestly, her death was meant to show the truth of domestic violence. The most dangerous time for a battered woman is that moment when she chooses to leave her abuser. That's why womens shelters exist. What's difficult for Damon, and the reason Lily is centered in his hell stone storyline, is the fact that Damon isn't Stefan and Elena. His forgiveness requires time. He can't forgive someone simply because they're dying. He forgives when his heart truly allows him to. That's why Stefan told Lily he needed more time. Because Damon truly needed more time.
I don't like Lily because she comes off cold and disconnected. But perhaps her ripper gene forces her to be that way, idk. I imagine she'd have to be a certain way just as Stefan has to be a certain way.

When they marry you:
Phoenix wants a hyphenated name. The two names together sound so perfect. The first time he says it he breaks down crying
With miles it really depends. Is their bad blood behind the name. Say your parents were gang members and you escaped that life-your taking his name. Otherwise I think he'd consider hyphenated.
I'm conflicted with franziska either she has you take her name cause saying your new name in her head is calming to her, or she insists on taking yours if there's less dirt and blood on it
Dahlia will take your name if its prettier or higher status then hers
Gumshoe might let you keep your name without changing his. He doesn't understand why it's such a big deal.
Godot takes your last name. He's very enthusiastic about it too. In his mind his old last name is dead to him so why not.
I think all of these are very accurate (including Gumshoe’s, even tho I can’t see him as a yandere) but may I also add...
Damon: Really wants you to take his last name, but will settle for a hyphenated one if you’re insistent.
Shelly: He doesn’t care. You’ll always be his, regardless of whether you share a surname or not. However, he won’t deny that he thinks “Y/N de Killer” has a nice ring to it.
Matt: Absolutely wants you to take his name. He wants everyone to know you’re his, and will be relentless about getting you to change it. He feels very smug and proud when he hears people ask you “Engarde? You’re married to Matt Engarde?”
Kristoph: You’re taking his name, no ifs or buts about it. Kristoph is very possessive and your last name is going to reflect this. The only situation in which he’d be against it is if people kept mistakenly thinking you’re married to his brother rather than him.
Klavier: He acts like he doesn’t care whether you take his name or not, but he secretly really wants you to. He’d also be perfectly happy with a hyphenated one, but he’ll relent if you really want him to take yours. He’ll still go by ‘Gavin’ in public, though, since that’s the name his fans know him by.
Wocky: It depends. If he’s abandoned his gangster lifestyle, then he’s taking yours since there’s so much negative association with his family name. However, if he’s still a gangster, then you’ll be taking his, no questions asked.
Ray: He mostly wants a hyphenated one, but will happily settle for any other option you choose. He just wants to be married to you.
Sebastian: After everything he’s been through, he’ll definitely be taking your last name. He wants to distance himself from his father and by association, his family name, as much as possible.
Simon K: His name doesn’t mean much to him, other than the fact that he picked it himself, so he wouldn’t really care about what you choose to do. Although, a small part of him does want you to take his name, given how possessive he is.
Katherine: Would love to take your surname. Since she doesn’t share one with her father, she’d have no problem with taking yours. She’d also be fine with having a hyphenated one. Regardless, she just wants to be able to say that she’s your wife.
Bobby: He’ll be insistent about you taking his last name, or getting a hyphenated one. He just really wants “Fulbright” to be part of your surname. If you agree, he will cry tears of joy at getting to say “Y/N Fulbright”.
Simon B: He’d want you to take his name but if you don’t, he wouldn’t mind. However, he’d definitely want to keep his, given his reputation and the fear his surname strikes in people.

Sybil started great until another eww plot who construct all the beginning of Salvatore brothers about their abandons issues to Lily, and "Elena" attraction to Stefan's good qualities because he was well protected.
I'm not sure what you mean, but I don't think I'll finish the show. I don't want to see everything I value get further destroyed. And I was actually enjoying season 7 quite a lot, until Damon "killed" Elena, Bonnie befriended Nora for some reason (remember when she used to hate Damon and murderous vampires in general?), and Matt became a hateful white hat (with good reason, but he's insufferable).
The first time I watched seasons 7 and 8, I paid so little attention that it's like I'm watching everything for the first time now.
Damon's reaction to killing Elena was so woefully inadequate it's hard to believe the writers thought they could get away with it. Do they hate Elena - or perhaps Nina for leaving the show? Is that why they're making a mockery out of her character and Delena? Seriously. I couldn't believe my eyes. Damon thinks he killed Elena, and all he does is start drinking and killing some people? That's it? That's his response? That's what he does on a normal day! So, what, he tells some stranger he hates himself, yet goes on living like nothing happened? He doesn't cry? He doesn't try to fix it?
It's so obvious the writers just used Elena's death to get her out of Damon's way. They want Damon to get a proper redemption arc, but that's difficult when everything he does is for Elena (as they keep reminding us, every. fucking. episode.). Except it isn't, never has been. Damon's issues have nothing to do with Elena. It's like the writers don't even know their own character. Damon has done so many things Elena hated, like killing Jeremy. So, so much for Elena being the only one capable of controlling him; if he feels he's lost Elena, he goes off the deep end, but, again, that just means Elena herself isn't enough to reign him in. Damon does what he wants - obeying Elena is good for him when he has her, or thinks he can have her, but, if she's out of the picture, he's free to commit murder - either way, he does what he wants, consequences be damned.
Yet, according to the writers, Damon only does good by/for Elena (nevermind Rose or Liz or Bonnie or Stefan), and, without Elena, he just goes off the rails. Newsflash, he goes off the rails because he's an asshole. I don't understand how killing Elena will fix that? He'll suddenly realize he must care for people? Elena was holding him back from that? Elena, with her loving and forgiving nature, was somehow not good enough of a role model for Damon? However, with Elena gone, he'll learn to do good out of the kindness of his heart (like he hasn't done that before anyway? He's always done good and bad things). I don't get it. I don't buy it. Damon has explicitly gone against Elena's desires even when things were good between them (eg. when he almost killed Dr. Whitmore), so why is everyone acting like everything he does is for Elena??
Anyway, Damon's reaction to Elena's death was pathetic. I can't take the show seriously anymore. It felt like a parody.
Sorry, this isn’t what you asked but... yeah, had to vent!

That's why, when I see so many people hating on Damon and then defending either Stefan or Kai, but NEVER Enzo, I just lose my sh*t. "Enzo had weird obsessions" "Enzo was annoying" rightfully so! Wouldn't you be weird and annoying after having been tortured for 70 years, having to give up on the woman you love to protect her and then being betrayed and abandoned by your best friend/the only person who matters to you? I think, considering everything, Enzo was doing great. He still had that spark left in him, and that spark was the hope of seeing Damon again.
But people just see him as either this one-sided character who didn't have a place in TVD, or as a pretty face with a British accent. They never aknowledge how he would probably have been the fans' absolute favorite had the writers treated his writing with more interest and respect.
It just kills me, thinking about all those times he just needed someone to show him they cared. But for some reason, people like Caroline and Elena always acted so OOC around him, like Caroline saw him as kind of a new Klaus (which was a dumb attempt on the writers' part to soothe the audience) so she was like "nope, not for me"; Elena was just living through Damon so she just didn't gaf about Enzo, but season 1 Elena would've never treated him like that. Same for Stefan, he just saw Enzo as a nuisance, someone trying to hurt his brother and as Stefan only cares about Damon, he didn't try to see what was behind Enzo's behavior.
Why are people cringing at Enzo mentioning his trauma so often? That's all he knows! Pain is all he knows now because the only thing left tethering him to this world, Damon, doesn't care.
Contrary to people like Kai, Enzo's actions never came from a place of hatred, they came from a place of love.
There was so much potential with his character (especially since there are literally no limits to Michael Malarkey's acting skills) and it's been wasted with heteronormativity.
re: enzo's trauma being overlooked let it sink in: when vampires turned it off, they would usually throw parties and do whatever they wanted, maybe hook up, have some fun the first thing enzo did was finishing his existence when he stopped caring, he stopped caring about HIMSELF first, he never once tried to do it during 70 years of torture, but the second he flipped the switch, he was done. oh boy...
Bro. BRO. You did NOT have to make me think about that!
Oh god. You're right. Enzo's humanity was what was forcing him to stay alive. He was forcing himself to cling onto that last little sliver of it, thinking if he could just make it out on the other side with his humanity intact, he would be fine. He could survive it.
And then he turns it off. He stops caring. He stops forcing himself to care about being alive, to stop clinging onto that sliver, and to simply give up. Because that's what turning it off for Enzo was.
Stefan gave up on caring about his victims so that he could give into his ripper nature. Damon gave up on caring about Enzo so that he could care first and foremost about himself. Elena gave up on caring about Jeremy so that she didn't have to grieve. Caroline also gave up on caring about her mom so that she didn't have to grieve either.
And while Enzo gave up on caring about Damon, that ultimately left him with nothing left to care about. Damon was what was keeping him going, aside from the thought of seeing Maggie again. He didn't keep his humanity on all those years because he wanted to survive for himself; he wanted to survive for THEM. He truly did have nothing left. Not even a sliver of self-preservation.
It was giving up, giving in to all of the pain that he staved off for so long, and finally let himself die. That breaks my heart. He really did stop caring about himself first and foremost.
