So, I went antiquing with a friend today. And came home with one of my Grails, for a paltry $15.
Tumblr media
A grail so grand, it doesn't fit in the photo setup.
Alright, goin' out back!
Tumblr media
Behold, Tendril! A delightful Kaiju hailing from Hasbro's Inhumanoids in 1986, this plant-based hellspawn was unleashed by a corrupt industrialist, bent on releasing it's counterpart, the half-rotted zombie virus vector known as D'Compose, in order to free their master, Metlar, and enslave humanity or something. Oh, a half dozen humans with color-coded exo-suits saved the day and all (with the help of both tree monsters and rock people, no less!), but still, it was pretty grim stuff.
Tumblr media
This beast, beating previous champ Krusher at 14.75", menaced humans in the 5" range, as I recall. A bit small on paper, but these guys had pretty bulky suits, so it works out, and it's certainly enough to menace any average action figure.
Tumblr media
The back is entirely unpainted, but at least the sculpt keeps up. Said sculpt is competent enough, but apart from the feet, it doesn't convey "plant" so much as "amorphous mass".
Tumblr media
Articulation is fairly minimal: the obvious swivels are about all you get, except for the bendy arms, and those don't hold a pose very well. Every figure in the line had a light-pipe feature, cleverly worked into the heroes' helmets. The various monsters mostly had it in their eyes, but Metlar and Tendril both bucked the trend with two glowing teeth. This is true to the animation, but very strange indeed. It does result in an unfortunate orange patch on the head, but I'm not sure even dual-injection could solve that problem. So it goes.
This is actually the second release, with blunted fangs to prevent chipping. Or for safety concerns, more likely.
Tumblr media
Putting this Plant-thulhu on the cover of issue 1 didn't do much to endear the public, nor did the horrifying miniseries. Before its time? Poor market penetration? Whatever happened, I saw more of these at Kay Bee than regular retail. Mine was actually a garage sale find, back in the day. One broken fang, no tails. Loved it anyway. Good to have one again.
On a side note, it took me over half an hour to clean this. Someone clearly loved it enough to play with it in the mud, as they should.

The Decisive Battle: The Thunderous Lynx against the Hell Brigade
Tumblr media
This...this was the exact moment, near inches from the capital of Finland that if it weren't for the bold and critical actions brought about by Finland's metal hero Fulynx...
...Helsinki would've become a scorched graveyard by this brigade of undead monsters and their two-legged living base...
This was a joy to draw from stage to stage, starting with the challenge of making my take on Feyzer's Fulynx, where not only I had to follow on the original design concept he had but also taking inspiration from, quite fittingly the same source Fulynx was inspired on: Battletech
Which brought me to one particular edition of that TRPG that I could draw inspiration from, the Japanese Edition Rule Book featuring Mech redesigns made by Studio Nue of SDF Macross fame!
Next up was coming up with a baddie Fulynx could blow up and coincidentally during that week I've been revisiting the underrated horror cartoon series Inhumanoids where I borrowed inspiration from the undead horror himself D'Compose.
And lastly, the background where I think I made my best sunset so far, plus the other details like the famous water tower of Helsinki and some bits of forest you can see below, I'm quite happy with how it came about in the end ^u^

It's a long story, but BSFL are hideously amazing. A bent for science and a few spare parts later, I'm making it a "show"!
Introducing Episode 1 of Chubby Grubbies MaggoTV: "Meat d'Composers" (a.k.a. "Thanks Given"). Marvel as these dirt hermits churn away at some leftover Thanksgiving turkey in their habitat, Wriggly Field.

Comic Confessions: As a little girl in the 1980s, the TV show "Inhumanoids" was one of the few shows that actually scared me. The sight of that hand reaching out from below and grabbing the title are chilling and stand the test of time. I mean, I could even tell you the impact that had on me: I used to have images of a hand like this coming out from under my bed or anything else that was not in my peripheral vision when I was scared. I even remember confiding in my mother that it scared me, so she advised me not to watch this show anymore and the “bad hand” go away. And it did.
I would love to see it rebooted because it really is a great series that was ahead of its time though I would not let small children see it either. This show was for teenagers though I would still recommend watching it if you are one or up. Just because a show wasn’t for kids after all doesn’t mean it wasn’t good.
In fact, it should be rebooted because a cartoon like this would be great with some cleaned up storytelling and better character development. It can also be relevant with the times with how we are trying harder and hard to explore the unknown. I would classify it as fantasy/horror though and not make it kid friendly. I say embrace the terror.
PS: Noticed what my mom did? She didn’t sue, rally or make a federal case about it. She simply advised me to not watch a show that bothered or scared me, and that was the end of it.

Your wish is my command!
Sandra Shore's mother was probably closer in age to Blackthorn than to the elder Mr. Shore, and is currently living the life of a Wealthy Widow in Italy or something.
The First Mrs. Shore is a witch or some sort, and is deeply disappointed in her little Blackthorn and him not going down that path (his initial fascination with the Inhumanoids is her fault.)
D'compose is a regular viewer of Hector Ramirez's show. He is also a fan of The Misfits from Jem.
I’m having some very bland Inhumanoids headcanons
So, Blackthorn Shore, the primary human protagonist with the implausible first name.
My bland little headcanon: Blackthorn is named Blackthorn because “Blackthorn” was his mother’s maiden name, and she was the last in a line of Rich People, with no sons to keep passing the family name on.

Perhaps I’m misremembering, but did you once say that some of your characters in the Vampirino series were based on the Inhumanoids? If so, that’d be fucking boss.
Yes, actually! The Nero family was originally inspired by the InHumanoids back when they were characters in a Pokemon roleplay, with much more blatant names (Metlar the Metagross, Dee the Salazzle, and Tendril the Carnivine).
Giorgio Nero is partially inspired by Metlar, what with his power being magnetism, but now he's mainly Magneto-influenced (with a dash of Risotto Nero for the name).
His child, Juno Nero, is based on Tendril, but basically has Elastigirl/Mr. Fantastic stretchy limb powers. They're also mute, nonbinary, and have severe social anxiety that leads to them wearing masks and such, which is not really inspired by Tendril (the latter is way more inspired by Buckethead).
Finally, we have Diletta "Dee" Bellini, who is inspired by D'Compose. While her power of spitting corrosive acid is more influenced by the reptilian vampires of The Lair of the White Worm and the fact she used to take care of bodies when in Cosa Nostra, and her character is much more influenced by the MCU's Nebula (in that she's a bitter, mean bitch but also sad and probably needs a hug), she still wears facepaint to make her face look like a skull as a nod to D'Compose's ghastly visage.

What should this title be called?
Recently, I have been preparing more content for Suleforger Continuity, having started what is perhaps the longest project yet, however I have some side projects.
One of them shall introduce the Primordian Inhumanoids via a beast wars story, which is already been greenlit, however I can barely choose between which name I should use.
So for those who want to help, I put a poll for you to choose it's name, you shall choose between three Inhumanoids to be the antagonists, with the most voted one deciding the name of this publication.
Winning poll will decide the name and main Antagonist, don't worry, the other two might be produced at a later point.
Suleforger,
