I have a pretty hefty page count goal that I’ve set for myself this month and even heavier reads. I’m pushing myself by participating in March of the Mammoth by reading an 800 page book and of course there’s books on my list that tackle hard-hitting topics and subjects. So there’s that. 🙂

This won’t be my first time reading a mammoth (800+ page book), but it’s admittedly been a while since I’ve read one. I’m also no stranger to hard-hitting reads. I just have to mentally prepare myself for all of the above. 😉

I’ve somehow chosen graphic novels to ease myself into this new reading month. Here’s what I have on my Libby shelf as of today.

1. My favorite albums: Lady London- S.O.U.L., Ciara- Ci Ci, Chris Brown- 11:11, Lola Brooke- Dennis Daughter

2. My favorite movies: Barbie (that was for the 60s-90s babies 😄) & The Little Mermaid 🧜🏽‍♀️

3. Favorite Picture book: Big- Vashti Harrison

4. Favorite young Adult Novel: Invisible Son- Kim Johnson. This book was on my heart for days after finishing it.

I washed and styled Zoe’s hair today. It was really fun playing hairdresser. I’m hoping to get the Curlpower kit soon :)

She enjoyed the spa day and new dress made by @timetravelingcourtney! We paired it with the Anne apron, Molly’s socks and shoes, and the Kwanzaa bracelet.

So, you’ve got curly hair. What now?

Reports estimate that about ~60% of people worldwide have curly hair. That's about every 3 out of 5 people! Yet, despite the majority of the world's population belonging to curlfriends like you and me, there seems to be such little information available about the subject.

There are, perhaps, a few reasons you've decided to click on this small and unknown blog. Maybe you're tired of waking up with matted hair every morning. Perhaps you're struggling to find the right products for you. Or maybe, after years of having frizzy hair that refuses to stay straight, you've realized that you may have curly hair.

Whatever the reason may be, there are a few important pieces of information you should know about managing curly hair, and I'll update you on all of them right here!

I'll try to stick to a regular update schedule of once a week, but since I'm relatively new to tumblr, this may vary.

As a curly-haired person, my hair has been absolutely wrecked by the hard water here in Los Angeles, and I just realized “hard water” damage is a thing... I’ve been trying to figure out for ages why my hair stopped curling like it used to when I moved to LA (and it’s always limp and frizzy no matter what I do... and it used to not do that). Hard water is also harsh on skin... so it’s been hard to minimize breakouts too.

LA has some of the highest hard water levels in the country. So hard water damage is basically due to calcium and other mineral deposits (so if you see a bunch of white residue on your sink, shower head, etc... that’s what that is).

So like the dork I am, I looked into Seattle’s water out of curiosity, and it is actually pretty “soft” and some of the cleanest in the country, which will be great in restoring my hair... which means in a few months to a year, my hair will go back to its normal curl pattern (in addition to some other damage reversal treatments). 

I was jokingly wondering what was in Seattle’s water where all the Grunge fellas seemed to have super luscious locks without trying... and turns out it’s a legit thing. 

There’s some science for ya, and some knowledge for my curlfriends!

And if your curls ain’t curlin’, check the hard water levels in your city!
