DPxDC the Dog and the Death Wish

Written for: Flufftober, prompt 1. Lost Pet Meet Cute

"Cujo!"

Both Tim and the dog turn their heads in the direction of the voice at the same time. There's not a lot of people in the Robinson Park at five in the morning - that's why Tim is here, actually, because he wanted a walk but did not want to deal with people - so the dog’s owner is easily recognizable.

A boy with a disheveled mop of black hair, sixteen, maybe seventeen years old, in old jeans and an unzipped hoodie. He has a leash in one hand and a look of worry on his face as he approaches, not quite walking but not yet running towards them.

The dog gives him an excited bark and, finally, leaves Tim alone, darting back to the boy. Tim breathes out a sigh of relief. Not that he is afraid of dogs, but this one was big and loud, with no leash and very interested in his cup of coffee for some reason.

The boy catches his pet by its collar and turns to Tim, an apologetic smile on his face. In the foggy park, where the only sources of light are street lamps and the faint brink of dawn over the skyline, he looks a little otherworldly. But then, everything looks otherworldly at five in the morning.

"I'm so sorry," the boy starts, strapping the leash to the dog's collar, "He doesn't usually run off like that, I thought I'd be okay to let him play around for some time-"

"It's alright," Tim interrupts his ramble and smiles back. If it's a bit forced, then no one would notice in the dim lighting. Only the boy somehow does, tilting his head in a concerned manner.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, it's fine," Tim rushes to assure, hiding his free hand in his pocket and awkwardly moving his coffee cup in the air, "I guess humans are not the only ones who crave coffee in this hour."

The boy blinks, clearly taken aback. Then, his eyes shift to Tim's cup, and then he snaps his head to the dog, who is wagging its tail with an innocent look. Somehow, it looks much smaller now - Tim swears the dog was the size of a mastiff the first time he's seen it, but now it's barely bigger than a hound. Is this his sleep-deprived hallucinations kicking in?

"Cujo!" This time, the boy's voice sounds accusatory, "We talked about this! What did I tell you about stealing drinks that are not mine?"

The dog barks. Tim blinks. He is fairly sure dogs shouldn't be having coffee at all, but the boy seems entirely unconcerned on that matter.

"I can buy you a new coffee?" The boy offers, and Tim shakes his head, coming back from his thoughts.

"Um, no, thanks," he smiles again, and huffs a short laugh, "He didn't get to it, and, besides, it's a special order, they won't brew it for anyone who's not me."

The boy suddenly freezes, staring at Tim. And then, his lips slowly stretch in a grin.

He points to Tim's cup, "Is that Death Wish?"

Now, it's Tim's turn to freeze and stare.

"How'd you-" and a moment later, it hits him, and he points a finger to the boy, "You! The only other guy who orders it!"

The dog barks again, looking between them and happily nudging it's owner in the hip with its nose. The boy laughs softly and pats it on the head.

"Guilty as charged," he admits with a smirk and nods to the dog, "At least it makes sense why Cujo chose you out of all the people in the park."

"And not because I'm literally the only other person here," Tim rolls his eyes, even though he feels himself smiling as well.

"Oh, you're not," the boy waves him off, "The park is never empty, well, not for us," he adds a bit cryptically, and then gestures to the gates down the path without skipping a beat. "Anyway, I was planning on getting a coffee after the walk, but do you wanna go and give baristas a heart attack by coming in together?"

That's... not very nice. Tim thinks about it for a moment. Then, he shrugs and smiles.

"Sure," he takes a sip of his coffee, "I'm Tim, by the way."

"Danny," the boy introduces himself and nods to the dog, "And the mediocre boy is Cujo."

"Mediocre?"

"He's not a 'good boy' for running off, but he's not a 'bad boy' either, since he got me a Death Wish buddy. Hence, mediocre boy."

Tim hides a laugh as all three of them head to the gates, absently noticing how the first rays of the dawn are coloring the treetops in gold.

"Makes sense."

Imagining a fantasy/supernatural!au where Laswell has sent TF141 into Italy to deal with mafia vampires, resurgences of domovoi in Russia.

Imagining Soap rising from the ashes after his death, not understanding why he was alone in the middle of nowhere, naked, his skin sensitive like it had been burned. Turns out he had phoenix blood in him, much to the relief of the others.

I like to imagine them working for their country and trying to root out the bad creatures that stalk and hunt in the dark. Werewolves in London turned out to be a rabied dog, a Cujo looking motherfucker who was weighed in at 250 pounds after he nearly tore Gaz's leg apart. He underwent a month of rabies treatment before being cleared for work.

I like to imagine them deciding to retire after watching an innocent creature be hauled away in handcuffs, begging, screaming, to just kill her, a shrill cry sounding in the night as Laswell had to calm the boys down.

"It's outside of our jurisdiction, John! Familiars aren't allowed in-" "That's bullshit, Kate, and you know it." "Our hands are tied."

I like to imagine Price retiring to a decent-sized coastal town, buying himself a serious fixer-upper quite a ways from town that in a little secluded part of the beach, private property allowing himself a perfect, unobstructed view of the blue waves crashing onto the white beach.

(This idea has been living in my head-rent free for months now)

Months later, after the front part of the house is renovated, Price looks out his kitchen window one morning, seeing something washed up on shore.

Imagine the shock on Price's face when he realized a mermaid was unconscious on his beach, blood surrounding a massive wound in their side from something big.

Imagine him bending down, checking to find a pulse, and feeling relieved when he found one.

Imagine him carrying them to his house, not being able to leave them there to die. He places them gently in his tub, grabs his first aid kit, and goes to work on cleaning, stitching, and bandaging the massive gash.

Imagine him hauling up gallons of ocean water to pour into the tub, noticing how dry and gray their skin was as they lay unconscious in his tub.

Imagine him sitting vigil in his bathroom, trying to keep his eyes on the creature in his tub while he did as much research as he could on mermaids. (They were thought extinct by that point, the last recorded sighting of one being in 1933.)

Imagine him doing everything he could to make sure they survived, hoping and praying they would wake up.

Imagine him waiting weeks for them to wake up, their wound seeming unable to heal, even if Price kept checking on it every couple of hours.

Imagine one night, he's unable to stand the cold, hard linoleum of the bathroom floor, deciding then to sit on the couch and keep up his research, taking notes until midnight, passing out not too long after he started a video he found on some website.

Imagine him going into the bathroom the next morning to check on the mermaid in his tub, but being met with sharp, wide eyes staring him down, their frame tense and spikes and fins covering their flesh.

Imagine them trying to figure each other out while they heals in his tub.

Imagine mermaids adoring being doted on, being bestowed gifts and being complimented.

Imagine Price, who is absolutely fascinated by their beauty as color kept creeping back into their skin as time passed, their side healing and their strength returning.

Imagine him being unable to help himself one night as they swapped stories, his hand grabbing theirs and kissing their knuckles.

Imagine the blush that rises on their face, unable to stop themself from staring openly at Price, their breath caught in their throat as he kissed up their arm, reaching their shoulder and neck.

Imagine Price nipping and biting their neck, a moan slipping past their lips.

"You are the most breath-taking thing I've ever seen in my life, love."

Imagine them pulling Price's face up, looking into his eyes and feeling their very soul quivery at the look in his eyes.

Imagine him nearly falling into the tub with how hard they pull him down into a kiss.

Flufftober Day 1 - Guard Dog

Lost pet meet cute ; “I've got you”

Dick/Danny; Danny rescues Haley outline!

Dick's apartment got broken into and his door was left open and Haley is gone.

“Haley! Haley!”

Luckily Danny is there.

“Hey, you okay?” 

“No! My apartment got broken into and my dog is gone–” 

“I've got you, man, don't worry. My dog's a great tracker.” 

Danny blows Cujo’s whistle.

Cujo jumps out of a portal. 

“He's lost his dog, boy. Fetch!”

Danny grabs Dick's hand and takes off running. Haley's down an alley, held captive by a group of men complaining that she won’t be any good in a fight since she only has three legs.

“Maybe she’ll make a good bitch. Or better yet, an opening act!”

Danny hears Dick make a little hurt sound, and he tears into the alley without fear.

“Hey assholes, leave the dog alone!”

The men turn to Danny while Dick is cursing in his head and pressing his panic button, hoping Signal will show up before he has to break cover to save a civilian.

Danny stands strong while the men approach.

“Aw, are you scared for the bitch? What the hell did you dye your dog for, man? It’ll make good fodder for the pit, at least.”

“Cujo. Get big.”

Cujo grows immediately, his bulk filling the alley and his sides phasing through the walls. He barks menacingly and the sound knocks the men on their asses. Cujo’s next bark sounds happy and Haley, unharmed, bolts towards them to hide behind Cujo’s massive legs.

“Who’s a good boy?” Danny asks Cujo, petting as high as he can reach while Cujo growls at the men as they scramble to their feet. “Do you want to maul the bad men? Yes you do! Yes you do!”

Danny smiles at the men, his smile completely unhinged, and the men run away in terror.

“Cujo, get small!” Cujo shrinks, carefully stepping around Haley instead of phasing through her. “Good boy, good boy!” Cujo and Haley sniff each other and grin doggy grins, before Haley runs straight into a stunned Dick’s arms.

“Did they hurt her?” Danny asks, rubbing Cujo’s sides and making his leg thump the ground in glee. “She seems okay but maybe we should take her to the vet?”

Signal drops down from the sky and Dick, a little shaken, explains that a group of dog fighters just tried to steal his pet. He directs Signal down the alley and Signal rushes off to go catch them. He tells Danny to stop dyeing his dog as he leaves.

“You don’t dye your dog, do you?” Dick asks, still a bit thrown.

“Nope.” Danny says. “He’s a ghost dog. This is the color he came with.”

Dick has so many questions.

“Thanks for not outing me to that vigilante,” Danny says. “They’re cool and all, but I don’t think they’d let me stay in Gotham if they knew I was here.”

“Really?”

“They don’t like metas, and I’m kinda meta-adjacent so… Thanks.”

“Signal’s a meta though.”

“No shit? Huh.” Danny’s thoughtful. “Maybe they wouldn’t mind after all. Anyway, I’m Danny.”

“Dick.”

They shake hands.

“Want to take her to the vet and then decompress? I know a great dog friendly café that serves doggy treats. We could spoil our pups a little.”

“Sure. You’re coming?”

“Figured you could use a bit of a guard dog to help you feel safe. Not that you can’t protect your dog or anything, I just know what it’s like to feel unsafe. Not being alone helps more than you’d think.”

“You know what? I’d really like that.”

Idea- Bat Hybrid!Reader becoming more willing to be aggressive after Cujo but the dust

Taking some lyrics from "The Ballad of Smokin Joe Rudeboy" for this and altering them-

Reader loved Cujo. Cujo was their good boi. The bestest boi. Cujo was sweet and nice and didn't have a mean bone in their big ol' shabby body.

But Cujo passed away, and Reader was alone again, and the world was just that much colder.

No one gets to make fun of Cujo, even if they're not there anymore. Not even Gambit, or anyone who knew of them. Cujo wasn't for everyone to know about. And there will NEVER be another Cujo.

So it's a secret Reader keeps, and one they're careful not to spill or break, no matter what happens.

It isn't until they're around the X-Men that they start to wonder if anyone will actually like them the way Cujo did, or if it's a blessing Cujo gave them...

(Gambit keeps Cujo a secret too, and keeps their old collar in a safe, clean box, so whenever he and Reader want to see it, they can. It is kept away from everyone, because Gambit won't risk grubby little teen hands or brutish adult hands man-handling something that means so much to him and Reader...)

May I please request headcanons for Bruce, Damian, and Dick saving a stranded woman and her child from being attacked by a dog with rabies and getting them treatment?

Damian

He was out on patrol with Dick checking near a local warehouse when he heard growling, screaming,crying,barking,and then a door slamming closed following the sounds he sees a car with the driver's window rolled down a few inches then a yell of pain and crying

Peeking in he sees a woman and a little girl clearly stranded but also looking very scared,sick,in pain,and injured but before he could ask them anything he saw the little girl's eyes widen before the next thing he knew he heard barking,saw a big flash of dark and maybe muddy fur, and the door open being pulled inside the car yanking the door closed right before a very big dog could jump in

He soon learned that they were traveling to meet up with a close friend of the woman's until the car broke down and soon the dog came and attacked the girl and for the next couple of hours they stayed inside the car while trying to figure out a way to get away from this clearly dangerous dog

He comms dick telling him what happened and to not only come to where the three of them were but to also somehow sedate the dog or knock it out waiting as he soon realizes by how dirty the dog was but by how pale the girl was and how much blood they both lost that they could and most likely had rabies

Soon dick came with Tim and Jason carefully looking over the area before dropping down and while dick and tim helped the woman get out and partially carried her he picked up carrying the girl in his arms as the dog came back but before they can get back in the car or run away jason shoots the dog once in the leg and again in the side

Soon all of them ran Incase the bullets didn't stun him immediately heading for the hospital as soon as tim said the possibility of rabies to dick and damian told them how bad of shape they were both in and had been for a couple of hours

After having to go back to the cave and explain what happened to Bruce he soon leaves going back to the hospital and learns that not only did the dog get killed but that the woman and girl had rabies and were being treated and under strict watch by nurses and doctors

Soon after a while of monitoring he was allowed to go in and see the two of them happy that they both were okay and alive despite still being a bit sick and having a few blood transfusions due to all the blood loss

He stayed the whole night with the two of them as they recovered and came and got them the day they were out of the hospital taking them to Wayne Manor introducing himself properly and everyone else as well both of them thanking everyone sweetly

He stayed in contact with both of them after they left meeting their friend and going back to their hometown and make regular trips to Gotham to visit everyone in the manor especially on the holidays

Bruce

He was out patrolling making sure that Joker and Harley Quinn weren't out making trouble in Gotham again but instead he saw a car clearly broken down and a huge dog nearby thinking nothing of it until as he walked away he had a gut feeling that something was going to happen

He soon heard screaming and growling turning around to see the dog on top of her in the car quickly jumping down and grabbing the dog by his neck but as he did so the dog bit his arm and the woman's leg making her cry in pain and he heard more screaming in the car seeing a young boy in the back of the car out of the corner of his eye

He manages to get the dog to let go and shoves him into the wall behind him as the woman quickly closes the car door and the dog tries to go back for them but bruce hits the dog in his head and doses him with a tranquilizer that he would keep on him in necessary cases

He looked inside to see that both of them looked very pale and clearly were sick making him worried not only for them but for himself after looking at the big bite wound on her upper leg looking at his arm that wasn't in any better shape quickly getting them out and taking them to the hospital while talking to Alfred who immediately told him that it couldn't be anything else but rabies and they all needed immediate treatment

The three of them got treatment and they all stayed in the same room after getting looked at and quick treatment and now being monitored for the rest of the night by nurses and doctors Alfred came and not only brought extra clothes for him but also brought dick who was 10 at the time soon him and the other little boy were laughing and playing with the two stuffed animals he brought once Alfred told him that his dad along with a boy and woman were in the hospital

Soon the woman was asleep,bruce was dozing off looking around,alfred was reading a book in a chair beside bruce,and both boys were watching cartoons on the TV on low volume quietly talking and laughing with each other making bruce show a small smile before going to sleep for a few hours

After a couple of days the three of them were released with no complications or long term effects officially meeting each other a few weeks later and having the boys hang out as well as sometimes visiting and staying in the manor for vacations and holidays some of the times as well becoming long time friends in the process

Dick

He had heard of an aggressive dog around Gotham that had attacked people before but he hadn't heard of anyone getting killed or hospitalized because of the dog or anything that made them sick from the dog either

He was looking over gotham which is what he would do sometimes in between patrol but also watching incase anyone needed help or he needed to stop some type of robbery or whatever crime that was going to be committed

He heard some type of creaking below looking down to see a car with the driver's door opening and a woman slowly comes out and looks under the car immediately noticing a very large,dirty,and clearly growling behind her jumping down as she was leaning up to turn just as the dog was fixing to attack using his batons to hold the dog back as she jumps back in the car

The dog managed to slip in and gets on top of her and his heart stops seeing two small kids in the back calling for backup as he puts one baton on the dogs neck and the other in his mouth doing everything to make sure that no one in the car would get hurt or even killed

Soon Tim,Jason,and Damian came jason dealt with the dog while dick carried the woman followed by tim carried the older child who was probably 8 or 9 while damian despite his personality actually liked little kids and immediately took and carried the younger child who couldn't have been more than 6 both children being girls

Soon all three were looked at and given treatment for rabies and given meds for anything else that they might already have that could make their conditions worse and are under watch and monitoring

While the other three left back to the cave to explain the situation to bruce who had only seen the three run out of the cave looking very worried dick stayed and provided company for the lady who was only a few years younger than him and also provided comfort to the two girls who looked scared at being in a room alone and their mom clearly in far worse condition than they were

After a couple of days all three were released and the boys met them at the park and introduced themselves and soon the three became added additions to their family visiting quite a bit until they moved into a house not far from a pizza place that the boys went to in between patrols and in general meeting up with them most of the time and soon the woman and Jason started dating and he adopted both girls getting married a few years later

Hanging out

Will was glad he was going to spend the day with Jonathan it had been a while since he had worked a lot and WIll was either in school or hanging out with friends but he missed hanging out with his big brother sure they would eat together at night but wasn't the same Wil mom was always working but she had too and sometime would go on date with Hopper but she was always home after Will got home from school. Making should her boys were taken care of. She loves them so much and their friends too.

Will and Jonathan were getting ready to go out and get some pizza. They were always going to rent movies and play video games. Will was ready to go and couldn't stop smiling. Jonathan grabbed his keys and left with his little brother." So we go rent movies and games first and then have a little stop before we get pizza." Jonathan told Will he had a surprise for Will and felt like he deserved it." Where are we going, Jonathan?" Will asked and wanted to know where they were going." I can't tell you." He teases him. Will try to give him his best puppy eyes face and pouty face. Jonathan couldn't look at him because it was given away the surprise so he just had to drive without looking at Will that face always got to him but not this time.

Once got to the video store to get movies and video games Will still gave him those looks." Stop that or you won't get your surprise." Jonathan chuckles and gets out of the car. Will did too and walked inside and looked around for a little bit they got the birds and a few other scary movies and a couple of video games they wanted. Jonathan paid for everything. Then they were on to their next stop. Will got into his car and shut the door he was ready and couldn't wait to see where they were going. Jonathan started the car and drove to the comic book store one of Will's favorite places. When they got close Will had a big smile but then frowned." I don't have enough money to get a comic book." Will only had dollars and twenty-five cents. Jonathan saw the look on Will's face. " Don't worry about buddy this on me." After one year Will went missing and they had a rough year Jonathan wanted to spoil him a little bit.

Will smiles when his older brother is going to get him a comic book and he would have paid him back somehow. Jonathan parked the car got out of the car when inside the comic book store. Once they were inside it didn't take Will long to find what he wanted. Jonathan told him he could get a couple. Will couldn't stop smiling he got the two he wanted and then after paying for the comic they went to the pizza and headed home. Will was having a lot of fun. When they got home they ate their pizza and drank some coke.' Do you want to play video games first or watch movies?" Will ask his older brother. Jonathan smiles." How about video games then we watch we will watch movies. Will was fine with that.

After eating they got their pillow and blankets and set up their bed in the living room they were going to sleep out there. They both agree to play Pac-Man. Will was having fun and beat Jonatan's score in the first few around." Your little cheater." When they were watching the birds Will didn't want to admit he was scared. But Jonathan could tell and put arms around him. Will smiles and snuggles close to him. After the second scary movie they watch Cujo Will was covering his eyes. Jonathan didn't blame him." Alright, buddy, this movie is over we will watch something funny." Jonathan told him and Will nodded. They end up watching Disney movies and playing more games. Until they both fall asleep.

Joyce came home and found both fast asleep. She loves her boys and Jonathan would always be there to comfort and protect Will. He tries to best big brother and always be there for his mom too.

New Jeff HCS Cause IDK What to Even Do With This Dude

WARNING! This list will be discussing topics of child abuse/SA.

As I’ve mentioned previously as a young child he was abused by his parents.

He had behavioral issues and instead of working through them his parents just held him down.

He has chunky belt shaped scars on his wrist from being strapped down to his high chair as a child.

While his mother sought help for her behavior, his father continued.

He was always deemed the evil twin compared to Liu.

Liu was more quiet and reserved, while Jeff spoke for the both of them.

Many described him as disrespectful and mean.

He loves animals.

He used to lease a buckskin quarter horse named Woody from an elderly neighbor.

Jeff competed in reining primarily.

The owner sold the horse later on and Jeff bawled his eyes out over it.

He’s as country as it gonna get.

He has a very deep voice. Which is funny cause he’s like 5’1. He also has a very pronounced southern accent.

In high school he was a cheerleader. He was a flyer and could double as a base or back spot.

He’s muscular and agile, despite his size he can indeed whoop almost anybody’s ass.

His dad was an alcoholic.

Jeff and his dad would constantly fight, even before they moved.

The move made it worse.

They’d get physical, and Jeff would usually wind up taking his dad out back to beat him like a dusty rug.

His father has also shoved him into a counter, busting his eyebrow open and giving Jeff a black eye.

Jeff called social services multiple times. There was an incident where he had gotten beaten so bad there were belt shaped marks running on his legs and back. This was over a bad math grade.

He’s very much a mama’s boy. If you wanna fight him (which I wouldn’t recommend) insult his mother.

He will also fight you if you try his brother. Cause if you’re gonna fight one twin expect the other to roll up.

Lost trust in a lot of authority, especially from male figures.

Jeff’s pretty good at hunting and fishing.

One time he went to Louisiana and a suspicious Cajun man gave him a German shepherd puppy and said to take good care of it.

Yeah that puppy turned out to be Smile,

Except Jeff decided to name him Cujo.

Yeah that dog is ludicrously big but genuinely thinks he’s a lap dog.

He’s not scared of shit and it’s concerning,

Once time a water moccasin hissed at him and this mf slapped it and told it to shut up. The snake listened.

He’s also gone gator hunting before, and dabbled in a bit of catfish noodling.

He loves camping and the outdoors.

He has a nice blue truck he treats like a child. The truck is named Cobalt.

Jeff is also a very good driver.

Jeff has a bunch of funny little pieces of knowledge he’s picked up from doing little odd jobs around town.

Gay as hell.

His awakening was his childhood best friend named Mickey.

Later on when he moved he took interest in Randy.

This messed with him a lot when Randy decided to start shit with him.

Randy found out and outed his ass.

Jeff was promptly had his shit rocked by his dad and was kicked out of his home and forced to figure it the fuck out all on his own.

Part of his dad’s abuse included cutting off most of Jeff’s hair, which reached to his mid-lower back. This completely crushed his self image and confidence.

Lived in his truck for a while, still going to school and working.

Got back on his feet after graduation and enrolled in trade school.

Jeff got a job as a welder and moved back home to Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Moved in to his maternal grandparents house.

One day his dad visited him. It didn’t end well. To this day his body has never been found.

The murder of his father sparked an interest in killing. He felt good for taking evil out of the world, and wanted to do it again.

Under the guise of a reserved, grumpy cowboy he worked as a hitman under the Slenderman.

He’s a good actor, and it’s easy for him to manipulate others. He takes joy in it, none of his victims are innocent.

His victims are all either abusers or rapists that have gotten away with what they’ve done.

CUJO (1983)

😿DOG DIES (duh), 💁‍♀️Strong Female Lead

The dog actor who played Cujo was phenomenal and I totally believed in his whole good boy gone bad (with rabies) routine. Much like the book, the movie is all about sitting and waiting which is a little boring to watch at times. This is a classic film about a classic King book so worth a watch but then I’d tell you the book is worth a read first (though be warned the content is rougher than the movie). It was nice to see the characters come to life and our strong female lead take care of her son and the dog.

(SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK as well which ends differently from the movie if that matters to you (it matters to me))

I said to myself after a few drinks, I said, “Fuck it, let’s watch CUJO, lets watch this baby die, fuck this baby.” but really I am so sad for this child. I just came from an outdoor movie party where we were supposed to watch a spooky Halloween movie but instead we watched SING because a bunch of children were there and they wanted to watch SING, okay? So, yeah, I like kids and appreciate that they get their way even when I, an adult, want to watch a spooky movie during my favorite holiday month. BUT I don’t know when and where King decided that Tad was toast and I JUST WANNA TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT, OKAY? (No I will not put my knife down) 

ANYWAY. We barely get to meet Cujo before the rabies. The movie starts with him chasing a rabbit into the bat den and getting bitten. Sad! Tragic! For many reasons! I mean, that is also how the book basically starts but still! I am sad! (This isn’t a “comparing the movie to the book” review just like MISERY but still, I can’t help myself) Rabies is a wild sickness of brain rot and Cujo was/is a loyal dog but the disease is stronger than any dog or man will ever be. Poor bub. This is a cautionary tale. Please vaccinate your pets!

They did a really good job making a friendly dog look scary, the attacks are really alarming and feel like the animal is vicious even though if you really look you can catch the actor dog wagging his tail (dog actors will often do that when they are proud they are doing a good job, which is just precious). But this is a welcome turn of events because Church from PET SEMATARY 2019 just looked dirty and that didn’t make for a scary cat, just bad grooming (which can be scary), and while Cujo is certainly dirty, the watery eyes and overall energy he brings gives him the rabid touch that is so terrifying for this film in particular.

Cujo turns rabid by the time his boy and the mother are out of town and Cuj disposes of the father and his shady friend before our main characters Donna and Tad are unfortunate enough to roll their broken down car into the purebreds path. This is one of the more brutal Stephen King stories because of the waiting, the inaction, which is the best choice, but it is so painful. I can only compare it to GERALD’S GAME but even then she had plans going constantly, here it is just the brutality of the Maine Sun on their car.

Donna tries to leave once and gets wrecked by the dog, in front of Tad, which is horrifying for him to see, and of course then she is having the issue of contracting rabies probably, but no time for that because it is still time to SURVIVE this ordeal. All the while the husband is off trying to clean up an ad campaign disaster which is a big deal for him but absolutely not a big deal when you are literally fighting for your life. AND THE FACT THAT THE COP DOESN’T call in that there is blood on the doors of Donna’s vehicle right away is such a stupid move. I hate it and cannot believe it and missed it in the book but see it clearly in the movie and it is so obvious and STUPID. Also the movie randomly brings up the plot of the Camber family but never does anything with it which is a real shame, it is like they ran out of time with their own film. 

Okay. I have watched the end and now we have gone RADICALLY off book. And I gotta say. I don’t know how to feel. I am glad that there was a happy ending, but in that same breath it isn’t what the original story had in mind so I don’t really like the change. The movie literally ended on a freeze frame of the family all together, hell, Donna even found the gun and used it on Cujo, which was certainly not part of the book. It was actually specifically mentioned in the book that she didn’t know the location of the dropped service weapon that would have aided her so heavily but AGAIN, this is not a direct comparison, just bringing up some things of note.

This story was intended to be a tragedy, a cautionary tale of how so many bad choices can lead to something so terrible, but instead this movie ends with a miracle. I’m not sure that it works as well that way. Before it had this horrible weight to it and now the film ends on this light happy note and you go on with your day, when the book ended I was shell-shocked. Maybe the ending doesn’t need to be upsetting but it should be powerful and I think they undercut themselves by changing a Stephen King ending.

ok well i am changing dougals name.. to cujo :) dougal is a cute name but i wasn't really fussed about it and cannot bear the endless magic roundabout references from gen X's. lol.

at first i felt weird about changing his name but he's only a few months old and all my friends are trans and gay anyway so i don't think changing a name is a very big deal

but i love cujo as a dog name SOOOO much. it's obv from the banned stephen king book but also it's so american and cowboy. and the funniest name ever for a cute girly pretty doggy. also i had a rabies scare last year and had to trek 8 hours thru the turkish desert to get rabies shots. so it's a fun little story as well

in saying that, there are two books which have made me totally completely bawl my eyes out. one was julia armfield our wives under the sea. the other was the last page of cujo:

Cujo (1983)

Cujo is a fine adaptation of the Stephen King novel of the same name. It’s a good “animals attack” movie thanks to the time spent developing the characters and the effort made to create a realistic - and relateable - scenario. Despite this, I don't see this as the kind of film you'll be drawn to watch over and over. That’s ok. While watching, you’ll enjoy it.

When Vic (Daniel Hugh-Kelly) goes out of town for work reasons, his wife Donna (Dee Wallace) takes their car to be repaired by mechanic Joe Camber (Ed Lauter). Upon arrival, she and her son Tad (Danny Pintauro) realize he isn’t home. The car breaks down, leaving the family stranded, trapped inside their vehicle and with no escape thanks to Cujo, a formerly friendly St. Bernard now infected with rabies.

The film’s most memorable element is the titular dog, who looks increasingly menacing as the plot goes on. Its fur is matted with blood and mud, its face dripping with infection. The canine’s sheer size makes it a threat but it isn’t really the dog that makes this nightmare scenario scary, it’s all the little things compounded. The family’s car has broken down in the middle of nowhere. The heat is unbearable and hope for salvation is just out of reach. If only Donna could make it to the Camber's phone through their broken window, she could call for help. It’s just a matter of time before the opportunity presents itself but meanwhile, her young son is hysterical. They’re both without food and dehydrated. Every passing minute decreases the chance of a happy ending but there’s no room for error so they’ve got to take their time. It’s a great big time clock that cranks up the tension.

Aside from a scene towards the end where director Lewis Teague indulges in a couple of horror-film cliches, this doesn’t really feel like a horror film at all. It’s a drama featuring ordinary, likeable people going on about their regular lives. The fears are real-world fears. Donna worries she will get bored with her marriage. A crisis at work drives a wedge between her and her husband. Not helping is how... close she's gotten to her high school sweetheart Steve (Christopher Stone). There's a story already happening and it gets interrupted by this crisis. The whole time Tad and Donna are in the car, you’re wondering what you would do, which of their mistake you would avoid. You don’t think of them as characters in the film. They're real-life human beings thanks to the excellent performances by the child actor and the boy playing his mother.

Cujo builds slowly but steadily and delivers the terror and intensity you want during its climax. Bolstered by strong performances and good cinematography, it’s a scary film that isn’t so intense that it will cause you to wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night… unless you already have a phobia of dogs. (On Blu-ray, March 14, 2019)

Danny at least has 14 human years to fall back on. Klarion doesn't even have a human week. He formed out of nothing.

So naturally he doesn't understand mortal conventions and morals.

And unfortunately Nabu doesn't even know that Klarion is Realms Born.

Danny and his tiny gecko familiar were patroling the city when they saw him. A Realms Born, six years old, and his cat familiar.

Danny naturally asked the older kid to play. And play they did. And his new playmate even understood that he had non-Realms Kid life he wanted to keep up with.

It was at their fifth playdate that the little heroes came.

Klarion thought that they wanted to play too but Danny had 14 years of human life to fall back on and it was obvious to him that they weren't here to play. They were here to fight Klarion.

So Danny... May have snapped at them. A little... Ok a lot. He turned them into popsicles, took them back to their cities of activity and set the ice to melt once he was sure that they would get hypothermia but wouldn't die from it and left a grave warning that they shouldn't step in his city no matter what ever again.

But that had the drawback of having to explain to Klarion that the little heroes don't understand Realms Playdates.

Klarion is delighted, excited, impatient, and so very happy. He’s found a friend, not the justice league baby-crew who don’t know how to make friends properly or the order-magician who doesn’t play right, but another realm-being his age! They’re even around the same death-date, his is just a couple years earlier! But to beings who aren’t adults until they’re well into the hundreds that’s practically nothing!
