#Crowley as Eve tempting Aziraphale to a “spot of lunch

Does anyone else think that the Almighty has just left everybody in GO? Heaven, Hell, Earth. Maybe, she’s watching from a distance or maybe she turned away after Crowley and Aziraphale dined at the Ritz. The narration of the first season sounded so intrigued. She sounded so interested in what they were doing, but also like, it was mostly already planned. There’s no way that all the coincidences lined up so perfectly without her, but what if that was the plan? After she saw Aziraphale give away that sword, what if the ineffable plan changed? The only way to see if her kids could fly is if she pushes them out of the nest, right? An omnipotent and omnipresent being could only really do that if they completely removed themself from the situation. Completely blocking themself off. The first 6000 years was just the test run. The control. It all started in a garden with an Adam. So it’s fitting that it all starts again with a garden and an Adam

I think that Good Omens, Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss share more comparisons than originally thought. I’ll get the basic info out of the way. The colour palette of the three are obviously similar because they both take inspiration from the famous Christian and Dante Inferno versions of Hell. “3 rings down” from Helluva Boss. And general world building. “two sides of the same coin” Yin Yang idea that Heaven and Hell share in all 3 shows. In the fact that they are all awful and I hope death is just hanging out in a pit alone. Like where Laura Moon was supposed to go in American Gods after her death. The relationships between Stolas and Bliz represent the worse version of Azi and Crowley. The miscommunication, lack of respect and boundaries, divided by class. Fizz and Ozzie are like Bebzebub and Gabriel/Jim, the better version of both couples. The way they could be if they were honest, not to mention adorable. But because Stolas is a heartbroken idiot and Blitz doesn’t think he deserves love. And Azi and Crowley are just idiots pointe blank and shove their feelings down a hole and ignore it. The shared love of ducks between Lucifer and Crowley is very interesting to me, which represent how they both feel like ugly ducklings compared to their peers for not fitting in. Crowley never belonged anywhere, the world doesn’t like dreamers. Lucifer has apples in his design, his hat and cane, a reminder that his dreams failed. The reason why he didn’t believe in the Hazbin Hotel to begin with. He never got to see the good free will did to humanity and carries it around to remind himself of his failure. Crowley IS free will personified in the Good Omens universe. He WAS the snake that tempted Adam and Eve. And continues to use that to joke with Aziraphale. “Could l tempt you to a spot of lunch?” He was the first being who thought for himself and was punished, he was gifted imagination like Charlie, and is berated for wanting better. Emily is a more assertive Aziraphale, when she hears what happens to souls in Hell, she jumps to Charlie’s side without hesitation. Something Azi wishes he could do, to not have his religious trauma run so deep, and to heal Crowley heal from his. Angel Dust is a much more desperate version of Crowley if he was still under Heaven, used and abused, threatened with power imbalance. Husker is his Aziraphale. Helping him out of the hole he dug himself into.

I know people have already pointed it out, but I just really fucking love the Crowley/Eve Aziraphale/Adam parallel throughout Good Omens; Crowley as the one who falls first because he asked questions/sought knowledge, Aziraphale as the one he “tempts”. The opening scene and the purposeful parallel between Adam protecting Eve with Aziraphale's sword and Aziraphale protecting Crowley from the rain (at the same moment Adam and Eve take each other's hands in the background). And Crowley being the one to give Eve the apple and Aziraphale giving Adam the sword. And the ending with "time to leave the garden" and "can I temp you to a spot of lunch".

people have probably already talked about this but I think it’s cool how in good omens episode 1 the voice of god says “it will start, as it will end, in a garden”

and then cuts to crowley tempting eve and adam to eat the apple, which gives them free will and takes them out of heaven and into the human world

and then at the very end of the show, crowley and aziraphale are sitting in the garden and crowley says “can I tempt you to a spot of lunch” and aziraphale says “temptation accomplished” and leaves the garden with crowley to go to the ritz

so the story ends exactly as it started: crowley tempts a being of heaven with food, the being of heaven gives in and accepts, the being of heaven leaves a garden for a human place, and despite it supposedly being a bad thing, it actually is good that it happened, which mixes up the perception of what/who is “bad” and what/who is “good”

they even both end with the same gesture (aziraphale’s white wing covering crowley’s head in the beginning, the arch of the white piano curving over crowley’s head from the background as if it’s aziraphale’s wing in the end)

"Perhaps one day we can go in a picnic or fine at the ritz" -this is Aziraphale being like I'm not ready for us to be a thing yet but this is just me saying I like you & maybe when this is over we can give this a go FUCKING ADORABLE because Crowley never forces him or temps him like he did to eve no he let's Aziraphale figure his feelings out while Crowley stays the same just a flirty boy & in the final ep even though Crowley says 'can I tempt you to a spot of lunch' he's not actually tempting Aziraphale lol but guess where they go, the ritz where Aziraphale said they would go so that's where I think he let's the gard down fully he shows so much love for Crowley during & after the end times but how he is in the ritz you can see he's looking at Crowley a lot differently talking a lot softer & honest & his lil to the world its so full of love & to me it was in part because he likes the world a lot but also his world is Crowley & he can now do something about it cause its them against the world

Crowley insisting on dropping him somewhere is very relatable he's getting big signals from Aziraphale for the first time & Crowley has liked him since the first day very openly although it's probably the same for Aziraphale you can tell he internalised it so I can get the fact that Crowley like "come on we don't have to make a big deal out of this let me just take you to your book shop or something"

The breathing in that one line is fucking heart breaking Aziraphale feeling the need to deny himself this relationship with Crowley it's really sad.

The way Crowley holds the holy water after Aziraphale goes he knows what that level of miracle meant & he's so sad that Aziraphale wasn't ready but he seems to also kinda take a breath like "you need to leave him be"

you know what? i'm not done. i love the parallels between the ending of the story and the beginning. just...the scene of crowley as a snake tempting eve / "let me tempt you to a spot of lunch?".

adam and eve leaving the garden of eden & having to fend for themselves / crowley and aziraphale leaving the park where they met after defying heaven and hell, on their own side, fending for themselves.

the "wouldn't it be funny if we both got it worng, eh? if i did the good thing and you did the bad one." conversation / "i'd like to think that none of this would have worked out if, at heart, you weren't just a bit a good person " "and if you weren't, deep down, just enough of a bastard to be worth knowing"

so i'm rewatching good omens and i thought this was kinda neat. episode 1/episode 6
