And just like that...my crochet cardigan is DONE! This was the first bigger crochet garment besides hats and scarves and the like that I ever finished. It's not perfect by any means, but I love it, and I'm super proud of it!
Please ignore the mess, we're cleaning out my mum's closet.
The pattern I used as a base is by CrochetBao on Etsy (their Picnic cardigan. The original has strawberries on it; I might make one of those too!).

"Did You Buy That From... Instagram?"
By: Aina I.
When the pandemic first hit back in March of 2020, everyone had to find ways to spend more time alone at home. Some of us decided to pick up a new hobby; whether that be reading, knitting, or roller skating, there was enough time to master anything. Because of this, we started to see more small fashion businesses pop up online on platforms such as Etsy, Instagram, and Depop. Let’s take a look at some that boomed in popularity over the years!
One of the first fashion businesses that increased significantly was the beaded accessory business. These store owners learned skillful beading techniques to create intricate, beautiful necklaces and other accessories to sell on their websites. Because these stores became so saturated online, larger retail stores such as Urban Outfitters recognized these styles of accessories as a trend in the industry and soon started to carry similar items.

Another business came from the knitting community. Because knitted fashion items were very trendy during the pandemic, many decided to learn the skill to customize their very own piece to show off. Now, there are numerous stores on Etsy that specialize in creating knitted and crocheted tops, hats, and tote bags for their customers.

Finally, we have the customization businesses. Along with knitted fashion pieces, tie-dyed clothing also was popular during the pandemic, and people saw a business opportunity in it. Hand-dyed sweat sets were huge on websites like Depop, and many store owners sold their hand-dyed sets as a “one-of-a-kind” item. Additionally, custom sneakers, custom nail sets, and tote bags were also popular on these platforms, driving an increase in sales for these talented artists.
