Me: What do you think?
Him: What’s that handsome vampire fucker from season one of vox machina?
Me: The Briarwoods? Silas and Delilah?
Him: Yea, they all look like they should be Briarwoods. They’ve all got one of those scary journals

I do own some of the Critical Role funko pops. They are so beautiful and I love all the details on them. I wouldn't mind to get the mighty nein as Funko pops as well. Trinket is the cutest. He convinced my mother to get Vax and him to go together with my Vex. (Bit sad that I can't find Percy or grog for a reasonable price)

Warning: these critical role opinions may be a little spicy if you think liking star wars and funko pops makes you nerdy. sorry, that was a jab. im just going to talk about critical role stuff for a bit to get it off my chest. spoilers for seasons one and two will follow.
so, i love the fact that sam will do characters that are not built to please anyone. in season 1, scanlan's storm-off was fantastic. he called them all out and i loved the timing of it. nobody gets to be comfortable for long, things are not perfect, im not the 'funny little guy' anymore. it's the most real shit to bring to the table each season in a different way, and i have no idea if anybody else feels this way about sam's characters but just bravo.
so, also, i really didn't like the policing of Nott's behaviour in season 2 vis-a-vis drinking and killing things, nor did i like veth at all. shrug. it got to the point where i felt nott was being curtailed and suppressed out of some real-life moral code bleeding into the game. veth seemed to be a normalisation and the death of nott. which seemed a mercy killing at that point. i dont like it when a character loses their fire even if its for Morally Good Reasons.
an aside: i loved how nott's husband accepted her goblinity. that couldve gone on for longer, i enjoyed matt's representation of the role and the dynamic between them. oh well. caterpillar, butterfly, etc.
the controlling of purse strings and behaviour checking going on also bothered me especially when it was followed by unchecked indulgence under 'approved' circumstances. do we all have to lean toward good and 'fix' whats wrong with us? what's with all the policing? maybe i've just been around too many controlling people and comfortable white middle class Game Enjoyers not to see it glaring brightly and wonder why anyone else isn't rattled by it. great, so you aren't bothered, doesn't mean its a good thing to soak in.
speaking of blurring cast and character boundaries, im still sad about orion in the beginning of season one, but i understand why it ended the way it did. i am okay with frantic unmanageable types in games like this, even if they make me uncomfortable sometimes. maybe it had to go that way for him to help himself in a less messy way than escape and misbehaviour.
of course i now know there were real-life incidents behind it that had rattled everybody. that definitely needed to end, but it was difficult to watch even though i've watched it twice now, minute-by-minute. but they're real people who react to problems imperfectly. that's 100% okay. just don't expect me not to file it away for later.
so after this many-years long roller coaster i'm reeeally trying to get into season three.. but the southern accents and smell the fart acting is making it real hard for my attention span. i've seen improv troupes kindof coast off of memes and crowd comfort and venue clout enough times to understand that its just nice to sit and be part of the show. the thing has a life of its own and enough work went into making it that way. the thing we are most familiar doing can sometimes become what we do to wind down, rather than what we do to power up. maybe that's what happened, or maybe it's just me. i am bummed it is not grabbing me as much as the past seasons but i will still drop in every now and then and give it a try.

✨🐝💫🌧️?
Thanks for the ask, Ariana! (From this Dash Game.)
✨Which fictional character (book, show, or movie) do you relate to most?
This is honestly such a difficult question, and an answer that has probably changed a lot over the course of my life. Characters I used to relate deeply to still resonate with me, but I couldn't call the connection quite the same; at some once upon a times I might've said Anne Shirley, Astrid Magnussen, Rose Tyler; maybe Hermione Granger, Elphaba Thropp, or Andy Sachs; even Usagi Tsukino, Edward Elric, or Haruhi Fujioka. (And most recently Eddie Munson and Chrissy Cunningham, as well documented, and both for a myriad of reasons.) But I think that, in more recent years, one character that has weaseled into and nested in the core of me, like a baby with feet in my ribs, is Keyleth from campaign one of Critical Role. For anyone who doesn't know, Critical Role is a web-series where a bunch of (nerdy-ass) voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. Keyleth is one of the played party characters of the group known as Vox Machina, and is a half-elf druid. She starts out as very reserved, shy, socially (and generally) awkward being, unsure of her skill and words, and a reluctant pursuer of her own destiny of leading of the Air Ashari. Throughout the course of the story, Keyleth becomes confident, lets herself fall in love, and grows as a leader; her strong, brave, and just foundations are built on through her experiences, and she always remains true to herself and inherently, wonderfully kind. She loses a lot, but still carries on, and Keyleth accepts and embraces her path, in the end, and becomes the Voice of the Tempest. My own path is life has been a little more mundane than all of that, obviously, but the looming voice of imposter syndrome always tries to sneak back into my subconscious and tell me that I'm not smart enough, strong enough, or capable enough to do whatever it is that needs to be done; that I'm going to be found out as a fraud. I am a very competent woman and professional, and I have worked hard to get where I am, and I know this, but that niggly bit of self-doubt can be so, so cruel, and hard to ignore. The path to self-actualizing in any capacity involves squashing that dumb DUMB voice and flipping the script, and then doing the thing anyway and KICKING ASS AT IT. We don't need to stop being kind, or vulnerable, or human to succeed, to be great; to step into our present and future with confidence, with faith in ourselves. We can retain all that and use it to our badass advantage. We also need to stop sometimes and look back on the journey and see just how far we've come. I keep a little Keyleth funko pop on my bookshelf, guarding my plants, and every time I need to move her to water them, or if I just look at her offhand and remember that she's there, it brings me a lot of joy.
🐝 Describe your aesthetic in emojis:
👩🏻‍🦰👕👖 🥾💅🏻🎧 They're missing a chunky sweater emoji, for the record, because I have an obscene collection of those that I live in. I am, in fact, wearing a big ole beefy one right now.
💫 What is your sun, moon, and rising sign?
Full disclosure, I had to Google this: - My sun sign is Gemini - My moon sign is Aquarius - My rising sign is Scorpio
🌧️ Favorite thing to do on rainy days?
One of three things: - Sit in a lawn chair in my carport and smoke a joint - Sit at my kitchen table with a cup of tea, and write - Cuddle on the couch with my kids and watch a movie

Anime Convention Reflection
In 2024 I went to my first Anime Convention. Metrocon is said to be Florida’s Largest Anime Convention. The convection is an inclusive and immersive environment with a mix of anime, video games, cosplay, comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, and film.
Tumblr media
I have always wanted to go to an Anime Convention. Being a fan of Anime and being a fan of some many differences one I thought I would have a blast. Plus, being able to get my dad to come long made this the first trip that would be just be me and my dad. I was super extricated I had pick out the workshop and talks that I wanted to go to and what time they were happening. I also could not wait to try the video games that were going to be there. I really could not wait to go shopping at all the booths. I had a long list of my own of anime and manga that I love and hopped to get merch for. I also had a list from my younger brother that I was really looking forward to getting him stuff since he could not come with.   It took us 8 hours to drive down to Tamp, FL. Most of that drive was in the rain but we did get to listen to firefly book on tape.
Tumblr media
Arriving at our hotel we decided that we would get up at 7am so we could have breakfast and be at the Convention at 8:30am. So, we could get in line for the doors opening at 9am. My dad doesn’t really watch anime so it fell on to me to answer all the questions he had. I think my favorite part of the Convention was having my dad point out cosplay and asking me ”Who that was” and ”What were they from.”  He was very proud when he could point out characters, he knows like Master Chief from Halo and Ang from Avatar the Last Air Bender. Unfortunately, that is kind of where the fun ends for my first Anime Convention experience.
Tumblr media
(Sam Falco cosplaying Percival de Rolo from Critical Role)
We were third in line for the doors opening. We got our passes for the day and want about trying to do what we wanted. And this is where the fun ended. I guess I did not read the scheduled good enough because everything I wanted to do was locked until 10:30am. There was no food, the game and merch rooms were not opened, the talk I wanted to go to was full so I had to miss it. So, my dad and I were left sitting around doing nothing from 9am until 10:30am. There wasn’t a lot of sitting but lucky we were able to find a bench to sit on. I still do not understand why you would pack a ton of people into a building but then have everything lock until 10am for VIP and 10:30 for general admission. When thing final open we decided just to go look at all the booths since that was what I was most extricated about. However, it quickly turns out that a lot of the booths were all the same. There was drawing by artist some that were really good. There was shirts, statues, and Funko Pops. Unfortunately, they were almost of the same characters and series. Out of all the booths only two really stood out. One was selling woven blankets and the other was a leather booth that was selling vest, swords, and a lot of other stuff. Walking around I really did not see anything that would add to my brother and I collection of Anime and Manga. I also thought a lot of the stuff was really overpriced. Overall, I really did not enjoy my experience at the Metrocon Anime Convention special since it was supposed to be the largest one in Florida. I would be really hesitant to go again.

14, 24, and 28 for the ask game? ❤️
14. if you could choose an opening and ending theme for the series, what would it be?
ooo this is difficult omg im going to pull from my own music taste and not generally, because it narrows down my options.
i don't know if this works for opening so much as it does endingggg, but airbag by radiohead. "i am born again / in an interstellar burst / i am back to save the universe." because. well. you know. also just a really epic song, radiohead will always go kinda hard as exist music imo
24. if you could design your own line of merch, assuming money or time wasn't an issue, what would that look like?
oh, definitely collectable figures. lame? maybe! but i personally think it'd be awesome. especially for characters who have big roles in both mcd & ms, you could like, switch out their outfits (?) and add/remove features to switch between them. or the shadow knights, at least vylad and laurance, can switch between their armour & normal skins. and when i say "collectable figure" i'm not talking like, funko-pops or youtooz, i mean a nendoroid type thing, with those changeable aspects. soo cool
28. if you could ask jess one question about the series and recieve a direct answer, what would it be?
i have a lot, actually, and i cant think of any super good ones about unanswered lore or story, so one about her decision as a writer that might be a little critical: “why did you decide to take the ms characters in such different directions than their mcd counterparts?” — it’s just something i have a lot of holdups about, like, that still bothers me. i know that putting fantasy war-torn tormented characters into a slice of life story requires SOME changes, but the differences are so drastic with some (eg garroth) and i just want to know what the thought process behind that was. if there was one, if the flanderization was even something intentional.

Ironman
youtube
Iron Man is a 2008 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures,[a] it is the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Jon Favreau from a screenplay by the writing teams of Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the film stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man alongside Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, Leslie Bibb, and Shaun Toub. In the film, following his escape from captivity by a terrorist group, world-famous industrialist and master engineer Tony Stark builds a mechanized suit of armor and becomes the superhero Iron Man.
A film featuring the character was in development at Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and New Line Cinema at various times since 1990, before Marvel Studios reacquired the rights in 2005. Marvel put the project in production as its first self-financed film, with Paramount Pictures distributing. Favreau signed on as director in April 2006, and faced opposition from Marvel when trying to cast Downey in the title role; the actor was signed in September. Filming took place from March to June 2007, primarily in California to differentiate the film from numerous other superhero stories that are set in New York City-esque environments. During filming, the actors were free to create their own dialogue because pre-production was focused on the story and action. Rubber and metal versions of the armor, created by Stan Winston's company, were mixed with computer-generated imagery to create the title character.
Iron Man premiered in Sydney on April 14, 2008, and was released in the United States on May 2, being the first film in Phase One of the MCU. It grossed over $585 million, becoming the eighth-highest grossing film of 2008. The film received praise from critics, especially for Downey's performance, as well as Favreau's direction, visual effects, action sequences, and writing. It was selected by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of 2008 and received two nominations at the 81st Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. In 2022, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Two sequels have been released: Iron Man 2 (2010) and Iron Man 3 (2013).
