So. Basingstoke Comic Con.
This is going to be a rant. I'm German, so I have a PhD in a) complaining and b) being blunt. Perfect combination for this post. It's going to be long, so buckle up.
I give explicit permission to repost, reblog, screenshot and post to other websites, comment, tag, and add to this in any way you see fit. Feel free to write your own experiences and criticism.
It's a modified version of the feedback email I sent them. Since then, they have put out a statement which directly contradicts some of the stuff other people have told us (and have evidence for) and which blames everyone from attendees to guests to staff to the weather.
First of all, despite all the mess with the actual con, I had a ton of fun. I hadn't seen some of these people in 20 years. I hadn't met some of y'all before, and I talked to so many people this weekend. I don't regret a single meeting, hug, smile, or laugh. I do wish however for the organizers to step on legos for the rest of their lives.
Frankly, they had a huge business opportunity and they blew it. They could have established themselves as THE Stargate convention in Europe. People were taking 15-hour flights to be there. We were willing to spend hundreds, in some cases thousands of pounds. With that lineup, they blew every other current convention out of the water. If they had done this right, this would have been a huge success and an absolute no-brainer for years to come. They could have been one of those cons that sell out in minutes.
Instead, they let greed and poor organization guide them. They severely underestimated the size of the Stargate fandom. They didn't bother to learn about what the fans wanted and who the guests actually were.
A few things stood out for me:
Health and safety at the venue. No a/c, running heaters (!!) in some rooms, not enough opportunities to get water, way too many people for this size hotel. We are lucky there wasn't a panic or more severe injuries. Crowd control was non existent.
An impossible, ever-changing schedule. You can't put talks back to back, or meet&greets, or photo ops. Everybody knows you will run overtime and then the whole thing collapses. Changes were not communicated. Nobody knew what was going on.
Poorly trained staff. No staff meetings beforehand. Staff had no way to communicate with each other. Seriously, give them radios! Some of them didn't now the names of the guests or in which autograph group they were.
People could not get the things they paid for. Out of all the autographs included in my pass, I only got one, and only because a friend got it for me. [Marion, you're a fucking rockstar] I don't even want to know how many people will be attempting chargebacks on their credit cards in the coming days.
And the most important thing, the one that makes everyone I talked to the angriest: The way they treated the guests was appalling. They are such generous, hard-working people, and BCC shamelessly took advantage of that. Richard Dean Anderson was signing until after 1 am. A 74-year-old man who just wants to make his fans happy.
[BCC are now saying they were told he was a „slow signer“, aka someone who actually takes their time by talking to fans when signing autographs. Oh really? Then why did you continue to sell autographs well into Sunday when it was clear that there was no way he could get through them all in a reasonable time??]
David Blue was setting up his own autograph table. Several Atlantis actors went and got more of their headshots (by taking pictures in the photo room and printing them) because they ran out. Joe Flanigan tried to bring some order to the chaos more than once. He went full John Sheppard in the photo op room and took charge. We are lucky they're such sweet souls and didn't raise hell then and there. Nobody would have blamed them.
Staff were amazing and tried to make the best with what little support they were given. Kathleen, Finn and Nick (with the Stick!) especially, and so many others whose names I sadly didn't get. They worked so hard, never lost their humor, and tried to help as much as they could.
This disaster is entirely on management. It's a failure of leadership and an example of what not to do when you're running an event.
If you want to put on a convention, you need to go to people who have experience and listen to them. You need to attend several cons before even thinking about doing one yourself. And before, during and after, you need to take care of your people. You need to take care of your staff, of your guests, of the fans. You need to adjust the size of the event to the size of the venue, or vice versa. You need to actually be interested in this event beyond the money it will earn you. You need to know when you bit off more than you can chew.
I'm not hoping for a better one next year, because all of us said we won't be back. What I do hope is that hey sincerely apologize to the guests and at least double what money was raised for charity.

Happy Birthday Gino (21/11)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since I came across some more translations of Asylum and was curious about Ginoza's viewpoint in Separation, I decided to share some snippets I found. These will be linked at the end, and are sourced from Chinese translations on Lofter.
The OP has specified not to repost so I will not translate the entire material into English, only a few paragraphs I find interesting. As usual, I don't know a lick of Chinese or Japanese. The translation was done through DeepL/Google Translate. It takes place in the year 2109 when Gino is still an Inspector. That being said…
Tumblr media
*All due thanks to the translators who took the time to keep the Psycho-Pass fandom alive. We love you!*
Tumblr media
The children, surprised by the sight of a live animal came over to the table and Dime like a good-natured grandfather, comically stood up on two feet. Ginoza untied the leash from the table and agreed to let Dime play with the children at the dog park. After all, Dime was a certified therapy dog, and the parents did not mind Dime as a playmate. Ginoza left his seat and stood up, gazing at Dime's frolicking from afar. Ginoza approved of the scene from the bottom of his heart.
Working in the Public Security Bureau, if for some time he forgot the matter of eliminating criminals... for most people the Sibyl System provided them with a good living environment. As of now, the Sibyl System is indeed the closest thing to a utopia. By assigning jobs according to their aptitudes any civilian can make use of their strengths and become a capable person contributing to society.
In addition, the Sibyl System helped people find the most suitable partner by judging their romantic capabilities.
The children playing with Dime were still young, and their parents were only a few years older than Ginoza. They were all arranged to meet by the Sibyl System when they were students or in the workplace. They would form a couple, marry, and start a family.
Yet, Ginoza had not found a romantic partner. Twenty-plus years, he remained single. Would he remain so for the rest of his life?
That's okay. I have gotten used to living alone for so many years.
Ginoza felt uncomfortable when he thought of spending his life with a specific person in matrimony. Due to his job as an Inspector, the risk of his Hue becoming cloudy was higher than any civilian.
Of course, I am taking proper mental care but it is difficult to predict how my life will suddenly change. If I become a latent criminal, it will be heartbreaking for my beloved partner and my close friends.
Any children born from our union will be treated disdainfully. If I become like that, I can never forgive myself.
That's why it's a preventive measure to not desire a family in the first place. As long as I can do my duty to this society, it will be enough.
The children playing happily with Dime and their families live a free and carefree life — I will be the guardian who shields those civilians. I will be like the titan Atlas in Greek mythology, supporting the sky with his own body. If there's anything else, I wish I could stop the bullying of the children of latent criminals, as I was bullied in the past. I wish they could be treated better by the Sibyl System and receive the approval in the society...
No way. That's a bad thought.
It is like criticizing or finding fault in a perfect society. Society is better now. In the past, before Sibyl, humans did not treat everyone equally. In this era, no matter how much the children of latent criminals are scorned, if they strive for excellence, they all have a fair chance to climb to the centre of the world.
Then the only thing I have to do is to protect this world with all my might. I cannot fail to reach this goal.

Source/Credit: 官方小说 PSYCHO-PASS ASYLUM 宜野座伸元 别离篇 第二章 [by Flamenco Shoujo on Lofter] Please visit the original translator and read the rest of the work over there. I shall only share brief snippets of the scenes I like at best. Thank you for reading ❤️ This is my gift to the Ginoza fans. I wanted to know more about his perspective since we normally see Gino from Kogami/Akane's eyes, it is refreshing to see how he views the world.
*Brb I’m not done crying over Gino’s intrusive thoughts, plus him and Dime playing with the children. He’d be such a good father and husband, Gino fans pls fix this poor man’s heart 😭 he’s too precious.

Hey, OP, I gotta ask. Why tf is there photos of things tagged "my art"?? You didn't take the photos, did you? The Death Star for example would be hard to get a hold of
And WHY do you have REBLOGGED ARTWORK tagged as "my art"?! It's not your art, clearly isn't from the original artists thankfully being tagged automatically by the reblog. So I have to ask you, why are you using the "my art" tag?? If it isn't your work, don't tag it with "my art". That's not how the tag works
DO NOT TRY TO STEAL PEOPLE'S HARD WORK!!
That goes for the artists and photographers, official art or free spirited. I came here from ORIGINAL DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE ART posted with the "my art" tag. I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope it was just traced, but it's TOO on point. Not to mention, looking through your blog has given me the answer
Either explain yourself, or remove that tag from everything you've claimed as your work. If you want to keep the works up, I suggest you find the real creators of each said piece and credit them. Claiming work as yours is wrong
Thank God the reblogs have the original artists tagged by default
Thank you for the criticism, I appreciate it. I will remove the “my art” tags immediately. I just learned yesterday how to photoshop using the editing tools on my phone, I guess I got way too excited. I apologize for stealing art.

Alright, here's what I've got for "emotional and maybe violent" games. All these are available on steam (or at least, used to be.)
Alan Wake - Play as an analog for Stephen King in a town that may or may not be cursed while you fight possessed townsfolk and search for your missing wife. More focused on the story than the action, but it's a pretty game, at least. Ignore the sequel. Remake coming...Eventually?
Bioshock Infinite - I'm certain you've already played this, I don't even know why I'm putting it on this list.
Carrion - Play as a flesh monster escaping from a secret underground lab. Consume humans for fun and to regain health and grow larger. Consume lab samples to gain new abilities. Metroid-style navigation that blocks off parts of the game until you have the requisite abilities. Light on the story, but big on horror violence. Published by Devolver Digital (so you know it's good).
Cry of Fear - Play as Simon, a student that's just trying to get home and survive the horror his town has turned into. Has a deeper meaning once you beat the game and get the whole story, but I never beat it, and can no longer run it. This game is older than my computer. Also has an additional DLC(?) called Afraid of Monsters, with co-op functionality.
Darkest Dungeon - Acclaimed dungeoncrawler turn-based strategy where you hire and control a team of "heroes" (aka mercenaries) to clear your late ancestor's estate from several different flavors of eldritch horrors leftover from his gruesome experimentation. Stellar voice acting by Wayne June. Make sure to pick up all the DLCs and the soundtrack! I'm annoyed that a bug won't let me play this anymore, but glad I at least got to beat it, first. Sequel available on EPIC Games, to be released on Steam...Eventually...
Dead Space 1 & 2 - You've already heard about it, so I don't need to tell you these games are violent as hell, with a pretty good story, actually. I'm not including the 3rd game or the 2023 remake because I haven't played them.
DEFCON - Real-time strategy inspired by 1980s cold war movies. Take control of one or more nation's nuclear arsenal and lay waste to your enemies before they scour you from existence. Emotional in a meta way - Actual studied have been done on this game and it's effect on people.
Doki Doki Literature Club - Don't let it's saccharine facade fool you, this game is an emotional roller-coaster with themes of existentialism. Still has an active fanbase, apparently, and it's free to play! The ending credits song is pretty good, too. May contain brief moments of poetry.
DUSK - One of the granddaddies of the Boomer Shooter Revival of the 2020s. Play as a nameless protagonist labeled DUSK Dude as you run and gun your way through 30-odd levels of blood-soaked rural Pennsylvania and beyond. Multiplayer is possible, but good luck finding any public games. Published by New Blood.
Duskers - Roomba-powered survival-exploration-real-time-strategy game where you control a number of drones to explore abandoned spaceships. Search the wrecks for resources to keep yourself and your drones alive and uncorrupted data to try and glean some information as to why you seem to be the last person in the universe. Oh...And watch out for the...Anomalies.
FAItH: The Unholy Trinity - Critically-acclaimed Atari-style horror game trilogy finally released in its entirety. Play as a priest in 1987 Connecticut as you set out to finish what you started a year ago, and gradually find yourself drawn into all the evil of the Satanic Panic. Published by New Blood.
Farcry 3 - Play as a college yuppie kidnapped by pirates on an island, rescued by the islanders, and use all the guns and drugs you can find to rescue your friends. Liberate the island one fort at a time, and uncover the secrets that have lain dormant within the jungle - And within yourself.
Gone Home - Relaxing walking simulator where you play as a college student just returned home, searching her parents' abandoned home for your sister. Fill in the story bit by bit through finding old documents and having brief auditory flashbacks. A story about growing up and discovering one's self. I haven't played this in a few years so this summary is just from memory. I intend to play it again soon.
Hotline Miami 1 & 2 - Top-down arcade-style massacre simulator. Play as a nameless person taking orders from mysterious voicemails and murdering buildings full of Russian mobsters while wearing animal masks. Sequel adds more of the same, but this time with an actual story, additional characters, and an included comic book. Amazing soundtrack. Published by Devolver Digital.
Inscryption - Meta card-based strategy game. Uncover the secrets behind a mysterious floppy disk found in the woods. Don't want to spoil anything, but it's about 3x bigger than it initially appears. Created by Daniel Mullens. Great for people who enjoy tabletop games. Fantastic ambiance. Don't google it or you'll spoil the whole game.
Killing Floor 2 - Great game, but I'm bitter that I can't run it on my computer anymore, so I won't spend too much time writing about it. So-op first-person wave-based-shooter. Ruthlessly French, at times.
Lakeview Valley - Serial killer simulator where you try to get away scot-free with murdering a whole goddamn town full of people. I got a bad ending, last time I played, and I was too bitter to go back and try for a better one. Can be pretty thrilling, trying to get away with each and every kill. Alternately, you could not murder anyone and just be a good neighbor. Whatever.
Manhunt - Extremely contentious and often banned stealth-'em-up murder game. Play as an "exonerated" death row inmate and earn your freedom as a snuff film star by murdering every single goddamn person you come across in one of 3 increasingly gruesome ways per weapon. Gunplay is a little...Crap. Personally, I prefer the sequel, but you can only get Manhunt 2 on Wii, and all the executions are "censored." Manhunt 1 on Steam is good to go, though (aside from an easily fixed bug in the first level.) Very violent. Story's alright. Published by Rockstar back when they had some balls.
Mother Russia Bleeds - Krokodil-fueled sidescrolling beat-'em-up that takes place during the Russian Revolution (I don't know which one). Gameplay is...Alright. Probably best played with a controller, and very violent. Co-op multiplayer is couch-style ONLY, so don't expect to get any help from your online friends list. Published by Devolver Digital. Reviewed by Boris.
Omen Exitio: Plague - Text-based visual(?) novel that puts you into the shoes of an 18th(?) century doctor on his adventures as he investigates a mysterious disease cropping up around the world, as well as the cult that seems to be after him. Lovecraftian themes, and surprisingly enjoyable. I recommend you Min/Max whatever stats you pick. There's been a free DLC released, but I haven't played it. Has its emotional parts; I wouldn't mind having this as a regular book.
Postal 2 - Play as a perfectly sane and normal Dude in Paradise, Arizona as he goes about his chores throughout the course of a week. First-person shooter (or not, if you're a tryhard) that never takes itself seriously in the slightest. Peak mid-2000s "deliberately offensive" humor. Includes free "Apocalypse Weekend" DLC. Developers recommend players skip Postal 3 and go straight to Postal 4, for a sequel (neither of which have I played, unfortunately).
Project Zomboid - Arguably the best and more realistic zombie apocalypse game in existence at present. Play as...Well, whoever you want, trying (you will fail) to survive the zombie apocalypse. There is no mystery, there is no story, there is no escape. This is how you die. The only thing that matters is how long that takes and how many Steam Workshop mods you can run at once without breaking the game entirely. Build 42 to be released soon!
Prototype - Play as Alex Mercer, a dude who doesn't remember shit about shit but has woken up with some gnarly shapeshifting superpowers at the beginning of a massive biological outbreak. Use your powers to stealth and murder your way toward understanding the truth as to what's going on and what happened to you. Gain additional tidbits of lore by literally eating people's brains. Fun and tasty! 1 or 2 sequels released, but I haven't played them.
The Forest - Canadian wilderness survival simulator. Survive a plane crash and get repeatedly assaulted by the roving bands of cave-dwelling cannibals and their monstrous allies. Search for your son and uncover the truth as to the horrors that took place on the peninsula. Sequel to be released soon!
The Miskatonic - Cute little visual novel inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Not violent at all, but deals massive emotional damage when you learn that the creator has severed all ties with the project and any hope of a sequel. Contains brief female nudity and some written innuendo. I think I used to follow this developer on DeviantArt?
The Walking Dead Season 1 & 2 - Story-driven game that takes place in the universe of but is separate from the story of the titular show and graphic novel. Face the trials and tribulations that come with the collapse of civilization during the zombie apocalypse, and adopt (and later play as) a kid as you try to keep her and yourself alive. Decisions have lasting effects that extend even between games. Can get very emotional, at times.
ULTRAKILL - Classic blood-soaked boomer shooter that is still being worked on today! Play as a robot designated V1 in a world where humanity is dead, blood is fuel, and Hell is full. Delve through an interpretation of Dante's Inferno on a mission to quench your insatiable thirst for blood from all the sinners residing there. Extremely creative level design, addictive gameplay, and the community is full of femboys? extremely active, even so far as one of the voice actors regularly engaging with streams and memes in character! Story is there, but not super important, if it doesn't matter to you. Max0r has done 2 videos so far reviewing the game, much to the delight of the community. Published by New Blood.
That's all I got, for now. I can make more recommendations, if you're looking for other specific kinda of games, but I'm limited by what I own and can play.

Hey friends. Can we talk about reposted art for a second? Because I feel like I’ve seen a bunch of it lately, particularly in the Sandman fandom.
And I get it! There are so many incredible artists doing gorgeous art in this fandom! And we all want to be excited about it and share it! And some of those incredible artists aren’t on tumblr.
Look as someone who makes fandom stuff (not art but writing) I live for feedback. I live to see people reacting to my stuff. Even just likes and kudos.
I’m not on twitter or instagram. If I learned that my writing had been posted there (idk if that’s even possible but you know what I mean) and people were reacting to it where I couldn’t see it, I would be devastated.
So. If you’re bringing art that’s not yours over from another platform, even if you’re crediting the artist, please don’t unless you’ve gotten the artist’s permission. (And then you can add a caption that says “posted with permission” and that’s fantastic!)
I know it’s so easy to see some fantastic art when you’re scrolling and just hit like or reblog and keep going.
But please, if you love people making fandom stuff for free, please take a second and look to see if the art is signed and then see if that signature matches up with the op’s handle. If it’s not signed or it doesn’t match, click on the op post or blog and see if there are tags on the post or info on the blog that tells you the op is the artist. If it looks like a repost please click away and keep scrolling. I promise there is more great art to see by people who posted it here themselves.
Look I have absolutely reblogged art that was reposted. I get enthusiastic about things I like and I want to share them. That’s what brought us all to fandom, right? And sometimes that means that I didn’t stop to take a critical look. I’m absolutely not condemning anyone for this. I’m just encouraging us all to support artists by letting them be in control of where and how their art is posted. ❤️❤️

Common Tax Preparation Mistakes to Avoid with Outsourcing
Tax preparation is a crucial part of the evolving business environment involving precision and expertise. Tax services outsourcing offers ease to small businesses in particular, enabling them to focus on their key areas of expertise. However, outsourcing can transform accuracy and efficiency. It isn't immune to hazards, though. Here are a few essential tips that will assist you remain on the right side of compliance plus ensure a seamless tax preparation method for your business.
For businesses, especially small ones juggling multiple responsibilities during tax season can be challenging. Outsourcing tax services has become a center of attraction, providing accuracy and productivity. This doesn’t, however, signify a carefree approach. Let’s explore possible risks and how to avoid them for a hassle-free encounter with a tax professional.
Common Tax Preparation Mistakes to Avoid with Outsourcing
Blindly Trusting Outsourced Providers: Undoubtedly, outsourcing reduce the amount of work related to internal tax preparation; at this point depending just on service providers could end in unexpected challenges. It is necessary to set aside sufficient time to thoroughly look into potential partners. This can be accomplished through figuring out their position in the industry, going through feedback from clients, and assessing their online reputation. Asking for reviews and references will also provide significant information regarding their previous work. Choosing a reliable outsourced accounting service partner is essential, therefore choosing wisely is vital.
Neglecting Compliance Standards: Compliance with tax laws and regulations is non-negotiable. A few organizations erroneously accept that re-appropriating pardons them of this obligation. Running against the norm, it's essential to guarantee that your reevaluating accomplice sticks to the most elevated consistency principles. Regularly review their cycles to affirm that they stay refreshed with changing tax regulations. Failure to do so may result in heavy penalties that could easily outweigh the initial cost-effective of outsourcing.
Lack of Communication: Clear and powerful correspondence is the cornerstone of fruitful reevaluating. False impressions can accelerate into critical mistakes in tax returns. Lay out open lines of correspondence with your reevaluating accomplice. Routinely plan updates and surveys to examine any progressions in your business that could affect tax filings. A cooperative methodology guarantees that everybody is in total agreement, lessening the probability of errors.
Not Leveraging Technology: In the digital age, tax preparation has become increasingly dependent on advanced technologies. The best tax return companies invest in cutting-edge tools to streamline processes and boost accuracy. Neglecting to use these technologies can bring about delays and increase the possibility of errors. Guarantee that your re-appropriating specialist co-op is utilizing the most recent and refreshed adaptation of the product to streamline the tax preparation process for your business.
Ignoring Small Business Specifics: Small businesses have unique financial structures and challenges that differ from larger enterprises. Choosing an experienced outsourcing accounting company for tax preparation is important. Generic approaches may overlook specific deductions or credits applicable to small business finances, offering personalized services that align with your business goals.
Focusing Solely on Cost: While cost is undeniably a significant factor in outsourcing decisions, fixating solely on it can be unproductive. Opting for the cheapest service may compromise the quantity of tax preparation. Strive for a balanced approach, considering both affordability and expertise offered by the service provider. Spending somewhat more money toward the start can set aside your money over the long haul and ensure your tax filings are more exact.
Conclusion
In the dynamic realm of tax preparation, outsourcing can be a powerful ally for small businesses. However, success hinges on strategic and thoughtful compliance, communication lapses, technology oversight, small business nuances, and a myopic focus on cost - you pave the way for a seamless and productive tax preparation process that benefits your business in the long run.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - Harvard's Claudine Gay cited 'racial animus' in her resignation letter
In Claudine Gay’s resignation letter on Tuesday, Harvard University’s first Black — and now former — president cited the fear of being “subjected to personal attacks and threats fueled by racial animus” while battling allegations of plagiarism and her congressional hearing comments related to the Israel-Hamas war. But Gay and DEI — or diversity, equity and inclusion — experts point out that racial animus was not the only driving factor that led to her resignation.
“She was targeted partially due to her race, but as part of the larger, extremist, right-wing push to reverse social progress under this banner of anti-wokeness,” Lily Zheng, a DEI strategist and best-selling author of DEI Deconstructed, told Yahoo News.
Here’s what racial animus means and how it fuels the resistance to diversity, equity and inclusion in academic and corporate spaces.
What is racial animus?
Zheng defined racial animus, in plain terms, as “racial hostility.”
“She is talking about having a target on her back for being a Black woman, the first in Harvard's history. That's essentially what I am reading, when I see her words, ‘racial animus,’” Zheng said.
A day after stepping down, Gay penned an op-ed in the New York Times in which she said she was “called the N-word more times than I care to count,” in her short six months at Harvard.
“It is not lost on me that I make an ideal canvas for projecting every anxiety about the generational and demographic changes unfolding on American campuses: a Black woman selected to lead a storied institution,” Gay wrote.
Racial animus is fueling resistance to DEI
Civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton said on Tuesday that the resignation of Harvard’s first Black president (she’s also only the second woman to hold the position) was “an assault on the health, strength and future of diversity, equity and inclusion.”
Gay also shared her views on diversity, calling it a “source of institutional strength and dynamism,” and said she advocates for a “modern curriculum.”
But as the academic world and corporations moved to create or enhance DEI initiatives in the wake of the May 2020 murder of George Floyd, conservative leaders in the U.S. have attacked such initiatives as “tactics of liberal elites who suppress free thought in the name of identity politics and indoctrination.”
“Understanding our current racial landscape as a zero-sum game, where only one group of people can ‘win’ is at the heart of a lot of the current anti-wokeness, anti-DEI movement," said Zheng.
In her op-ed, Gay spoke of the conservative campaigns that “often trafficked in lies” to oust her and “often start with attacks on education and expertise.”
“They recycled tired racial stereotypes about Black talent and temperament,” Gay wrote.
In an email to Yahoo News, Christopher Rufo, a conservative activist who has taken credit for leading a conservative campaign to push Gay to resign, compared Gay’s “racism” to that of her critics.
“Evidence that Gay is racist: she oversaw a discriminatory admissions program ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court; led a discriminatory DEI bureaucracy that sought, among other things, to reduce the visual presence of ‘white men’ on campus; minimized antisemitism and the call for the violent ‘decolonization’ of Jews; supported policies that reduce individuals to racial categories and judge them on the basis of ancestry, rather than individual merit. Evidence that Claudine Gay's critics are racist: Claudine Gay claiming, but providing no hard evidence, that some unknown person or persons sent her mean emails,” Rufo wrote.
“It is a shame that some people appear to be using the tragedy playing out in the Middle East to further their agenda around attacking what they see as a too-liberal institution of higher education,” Sarah Soule, a professor who teaches organizational behavior at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, told Yahoo News. “If such attacks on higher education hadn't been playing out in other places in recent years, such as in Hungary, it might seem surprising. But it is just plain terrifying.”
‘Extremely strong desire’ for social progress
Zheng says that DEI efforts have historically been about “eliminating discrimination, creating fairness” and building organizations and universities that work for everyone.
“There are articles from Harvard themselves essentially admitting to, in the past and in the present, the social networks of these kinds of prestigious universities have been typically rich white men, building social, political and financial connections with other rich white men that weaves the fabric of America's political and corporate landscape for decades to come.”
Zheng added that this model of Ivy League institutions needs to change.
While Gay’s resignation, political efforts to ban DEI initiatives and the Supreme Court striking down affirmative action have been “disheartening,” according to Zheng, the decisions have not deterred people’s attitudes toward social progress. Zheng said DEI continues to be an “extremely strong desire” for working Americans and students pursuing higher education.
“There’s value for DEI for institutions at Harvard, institutions that have in the past, and in the present, continue to be bastions of this ‘old boys club,’ this kind of informal network that is fundamentally anti-meritocratic, and is about people from one set of social groups helping others from the same social group,” Zheng affirmed.
“We need to build institutions that actually work for everyone, that support everyone, that give everyone a fair shot for success that open up the doors of opportunity for everyone.”

January 2nd, 2024 - vivid/stasis, IIDX 31, GITADORA
TRAINING ARC, BEGIN!!!
Okay, so today the vivid/stasis Dualia Ascensia tournament qualifiers opened up, but the problem is that I haven't played in ages! Looking at the charts in the qualifiers and seeing all the unplayed content I have yet to catch up on, I needed to work my ass off to get to the top level Fast. In my current state, I'm no match at all for the greats like Aurica and Spartan that are on Every Single Leaderboard. And so, with the inspiration I got from seeing Zolder's scores, it was time for my very own training arc!
I started off by grinding ENERGY SYNERGY MATRIX on ENCORE (tech chart my beloathed) since it was Really not my strong suit, but with more plays and more watching youtube videos to see what I did wrong, I saw that I was slowly but surely improving at memorizing and executing some of the tech! That's right, I was very much gaining MUSCLE MEMORY required for a chart of this caliber! And after several attempts from start to finish (including a ton where I restarted whenever I got a miss or slight acc choke), I did it... I got a full combo! With 25 criticals, 1 great, and 2 goods! Though unfortunately, those groups were a result of not fully knowing the chart, and I still needed to study up on it to get where I wanted to be; potentially a single digit crit AC? or maybe even a MAX...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on, I tried unlocking some songs and found this peculiar chart in Final Landing that I just so happened to meet the requirements to obtained! So unknowingly, I opened the chart and oOOH GODDD THAT'S SO VICIOUS
Yeahhh, so I tried sightreading 3.1V.C1 FIN-14+ and was greeted with extremely chaotic tech that I had to survive on a challenge gauge, as well as with an extremely laggy background since I didn't know how to turn it off! Gonna have to study this one too, I still have yet to get to it but I'm working on it slowly but surely...
Tumblr media
Now, the moment you've all been waiting for! Despite all the writing I've done just for the vivid/stasis scores I got on this date, the REAL highlight was when I went to Round 1 to meet up with some extremely cool people, including CHI XU (who arranged the meetup while just visiting the area), and Frums!!! We played a bit of DDR, and while unfortunately I didn't take any pictures (except for the login screen pictured below), it was a blast nonetheless! (and super funny when i turned on dot arrows and tried surviving)
Tumblr media
The scores finally started coming in when we went to go play IIDX and tried matching in arena mode, though we later found out that only one person could be on one cab at a time if we wanted to play Arena. So then, each of us played Free+ and I was paired with Frums to compete (with random on, of course) on some hyper charts! After two songs played (and a bitter interaction with a guard who was checking IDs), I decided to say FUCK IT and, seeing that Frums had Sakazuki unlocked (still not default despite being way back in bistrover!! 3 full years ago almost!!), played my first ever 10 on hyper. And to my surprise (with a very big choke section in the middle), I CLEARED IT!!! MY FIRST 10 ON RANDOM, AND PROBABLY 4TH 10 OVERALL???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on from IIDX shortly before I had to go, we found the Gitadora cabs empty (except for one discontinued credit in the Drummania cab) and goofed off with it for a little bit, but then after Chi saw my Epic Awesome drummania skills (they were very bad), we did a co-op session on some random songs and got a score out of it! (Two scores, actually, but we don't talk about the chaos of the 2nd one)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And unfortunately, that was it!! Wish I could've stayed for longer, but I was to be kicked out anyways and I needed to be back home at a reasonable time anyways. Still, I really enjoyed the meetup and hope I can meet with Chi, Frums, and everyone else sometime once again! I'll keep it short here since I already wrote around like 20 paragraphs describing the whole meetup in my personal journal (hands off!!), but trust me when I say it was amazing! 'Til the next time I go to Round 1 then, PEACE!

About unsourced art and such
At this point seeing some image with like “when the / when the cock pushes in” or whatever text straight up bothers me. I’m actively blocking any blogs like that when I see a post where the OP just adds some text, with all those reddit tags and no source.
Like ultimately it is harmless. I do not think there is a “need” to source everything[1]; if one of your friends shares an image through discord (or whasap, or skype, or pigeon) and you make a “meme” out of it it’s whatever.
I view this kind of thing as juvenile behavior (neutral). The kind of thing that you’d share in class with friends. Again, no moral value attached or anything. But when a whole group of people acts like that, taking art from other people adding some text and posting it around... Do they know it is kind of rude? Disrespectful if you want to go there?
LIke I’ve seen a few of these people getting called out, and it’s a 50/50 whether they go “sorry my friend shared this and I thought it was funny” and “no one cares about the artist, I changed it so no need to credit anyone”. These 2 positions can be even more extreme, with someone acting very apologetic in the first case or doubling down on the second one.
All those traaaaaa, egg_irl and 196 memes... Literally can’t relate. In a way I am happy that all these kids (affectionate) have such a positive attitude(?) with transness(????).
I’m too jaded I think. My personal experiences have been struggle after struggle, and then more struggle. And then I see some people talking/acting like their experiences are universal, disregarding non passing women, ignoring how lucky they got with free healthcare/hrt[2] and just generally perpetuating harmful stereotypes about trans people... All the while posting those kind of memes.
Rubs me the wrong way. Not everyone posting pics of femboys or cute anime women is like that, but in my mind it’s kind of the same culture(does that even make sense?).
Conclusion: it might seem that my two main complains are unrelated, but it is the combination of them that bothers me so much.
---
[1] It is the right thing to do.
[2] It is not out of jealousy that these people get criticism, but out of how blind they are to their own privilege. Certain countries provide better rights/healthcare to trans people. If you are lucky to be born in one of those countries the least you could do is do some introspection and sort out your internalized transphobia.
