#Cricut complaints

Ok so
I purchased a silhouette portrait 3 last week. It worked fine out of the box, but ultimately would not center the cuts it was making. Ive spent an absurd amount if time this week attempting to calibrate and fix the problem, but nothing seems to work. I attempted to return the product and was told i could not because it was opened (never mind that it just straight up never worked)
I am, hopefully, going to be getting a siser juliette, but i am trying to get my money back on the silhouette (the company does not have a customer service number? Only an email which i contacted last week with no response yet)
My cricut is cooked. It was already a used product before i got it and ive been consistently using it for 3+ years..... i tried a factory reset and still not working :( im not wanting another cricut due to the list of glitches and problems that ive been dealing with, and causing me to lose a significant amount of money in supplies over the years.
Until i recieve some sort of communication either from the silhouette company, im kind of fucked. I spent about 6-8 hours each day last week attempting to make the damn thing work, and i think that the digital program just is not compatible with Mac computers (supported by the complaints i see on reddit and youtube)
I am a little worried about the Siser, bc i have read that it is also not great with macs, but almost every review ive read says its faster, quieter and more accurate than the cricut or sillhouette. It is about 400$, which is more than both the cricut and the silouette machines depending on size. And ultimately, im running out of reasonable options.
Anyway. I have closed my etsy shop for the time being and am just. Truly having a hard time. I feel very stressed. These machines are going to be the death of me. Oh start a sticker shop they said it will be easy and fun they said i am going to rip these machines apart with my teeth
#personally i would not reccomend the silhouette machines just based off this expirience.#there r lots of ppl who love them but there isnt any tech support or customer service?????#red fucking flag#i have not been present bc of this my apologies

Plot for a Gilmore girls AU episode where Rory comes out publicly as a trans boy (he keeps his name but needs a different nickolasname, and the whole jokey frame subplot is Lorelei suggesting different silly names she would have named Rory, including absolutely outlandish apparent relatives, with little anecdotes on some of these relatives)
The whole town aggressively accepts it, and there is a whole campaign organised with little stickers to distribute to everyone so they can retroactively correct all the yearbooks (Kirk owns a cricut machine). Miss Patty forces him to repeat the dance lessons for the men's roles, starting with the beginners group full of 12 year olds.
Luke gets really stressed out by the fact that he didn't teach him any hammer skills, and is worried Rory felt pressured to any of the girly things he did in his childhood on birthdays and such (he didn't, he still likes them) and Lorelei calms him down and gifts Luke a pink frilly hammer [based on that one episode] so he can have the equipment to be a good male role model to Rory to be absolutely sure he doesn't feel alone. Suki makes him a gigantic gender reveal cake with edible confetti inside that mischievously explodes all over her when she tries to check why it didn't explode when Rory cut it.
The only one who doesn't immediately accept it is Taylor, because he thinks that people changing the genders they live as is absolutely disorderly. And there is a commotion outside Luke's diner, where he declares that after being hounded by half the town and Jackson is about to beat him with a zucchini, when Lorelei and Rory and Luke come out. Taylor repeats his complaint, and how confusing it is, and Miss Patty says that it really isn't and if he isn't sure what a person's gender is he can use they/them until he knows. Lorelei then quips if Rory should send Taylor an official notification and Taylor says he would greatly appreciate that, and then Luke butts in absolutely enraged and says that it's completely unfair only Rory has to do that, and Taylor is immediately like "Yes you are absolutely right" (and Luke is like 'oh dear he agrees with me') and goes on to say that everyone needs to declare their gender to him. And that he wouldn't have expected Rory to be a boy and this was all really surprising (and Luke butts in that that's gender stereotyping and men can have any hobbies, and Patty agrees with a raunchy fun fact), and then Taylor, ignoring that, states that clearly anyone at any time is quite likely to change their gender, who knows, he himself might have a different gender tomorrow, and he needs official written notifications of everyone's gender now. Lorelei asks if he will also send himself a notice if his gender changes ("Well how would i know otherwise").
And in the end Taylor is they/themming everyone until the give him a written notice. Btw Lorelei grabs a napkin and has Rory write his' up on her back and hands it to Taylor who retreats victoriously after acknowledging Rory's gender. It ends with Luke giving Lorelei the name of his great uncle who took him fishing or something and it's the same name as Lorelei's favourite children's book character so that becomes Rory's new nickolasname. Rory likes it because she had been worried about losing that connection of being named after her mom. Lane already knew obviously but she is giving Rory a replica of a childhood memorabilia of them both with his gender updated (it's a cd or sth) while Lorelei talks to Luke about the name thing.
Next episode is some different main plot, but on b plot Luke is on the forefront of reminding people to declare their pronouns and name etc if they want Taylor to acknowledge them, and even let's Taylor put up a poster where to send the notices. At the same time Mr. Antiestablishment (especially when that establishment is Taylor) refuses to give a note himself, despite Taylor asking him twice, because "he doesn't need to know". Taylor does refer to him as gender neutral for the rest of the show. Also it turns out Morty quite likes the they them and decides to go by he/they. Kirk changes his notice 7 times to try everything out first, including neopronouns. The plot of the Taylor they/themming people goes on as a little background thing for two more episodes.

More Adventures in Bookbinding
My Aries Mercury + Mars really does a gal no favors
Being both a perfectionist but also stubborn + impulsive?? A nightmare.
Following instructions is wise but why be wise when you just know you can figure it out?
Many faux leather sheets and much glue was lost to the cause
I stabbed my finger with my utility knife because of course I did
Eddie was like "yeah I was worried about getting that for you."
(Sir, I am GRACEFUL, DELICATE, WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU KNEW --)
Measuring stuff is the worst, but that's because my brain really hates numbers. The actual math portion is Big Suck. Thank god for Google home who can answer all of my questions when I'm sitting in the middle of chaos, covered in glue, and have lost my phone.
Oh yeah my house is chaos. RIP my super nice and pretty office space, hello madness.
I did however find the white fold up table I knew we had but couldn't find for days. My next project I'm doing on that instead of my desk + cube organizers. And my lap desk. And a stool.
My paper cutter/guillotine has been living in my kitchen because while it technically fits beside my printer, it's best used standing, and I have the best height at the kitchen counter. Hopefully the fold out table will work for this but we shall see.
My "first" technically bound book is done, but it hurts me to call it the first, so I'm calling it the test run. But for the sake of transparency I'm saying "hey I did all steps but I don't want to count this one, please and thank you."
Now it is being used as a way for me to test putting a title on the cover via stencils made with my Cricut + dye markers. So far not so good, but I'm getting closer!
Oh yeah and faux leather? Not the best place to start. It's like I decided to learn a new hobby on hard mode. But on the plus side maybe this means I'll get the hard part out of the way and have an easier time with other fabrics? If I choose to use them because really, I probably spoiled myself with the idea of leather bound books.
That is the reason my tester copy turned out as bad as it did. By the end I was so desperate to get the leather to stick AND have the case fit the text block, that I went overboard and cut my chipboard too wide. Oops.
First rounds with the case (following a tutorial), the cover was a teensy bit too short.
Then by the end I was fighting too hard with the leather to care about much else.
I'd probably be happier with the test run if my measurements hadn't been so off.
Also...wax paper??? I wish someone had told me about wax paper sooner. Now I'm not getting everything stuck with glue.
I'm going to have to buy TWO boxes of wax paper today. One for baking and one for crafting.
I am really bad at gauging how even things are. I think that's ruled by the same bit of my brain as Math Hatred. Further hindered by overthinking and perfectionism. (Nothing is ever straight/even enough 😭)
Oh remember how the first copy is the "test run"? I decided the smart thing to do was to after one failure do two at a time. (Not actually smart, but ah well.)
Current stage: waiting for the leather to dry along the top/bottom edges of the chipboard. Then I get to do it all over again with the side edges.
With luck I'll have measured everything properly this time but we shall see.
Oh yeah: the multiple sources recommending waxed thread?? Bad idea. Or at least buying pre-waxed thread was a bad idea. That stuff is THICK. Easy to work with, but THICK and not pretty at all.
Round 2 I used regular thread and double threaded my needle. Less easy but a better result all around.
On that note: stitching the signatures is my FAVORITE part??
Also poking the holes. Poking holes in paper is very satisfying.
Stitching the text block is very therapeutic. Just me on my couch watching true crime videos and stitching signatures together. A great time was had.
Also, minor complaint, I got leather sheets in a variety pack. Bad idea. One won't fit everything the right way. I ended up having to glue my chipboard to two sheets but the "matching shades" are slightly off from each pack. Most noticeable and horrifying with the white leather. 😭 Will be getting proper rolls next time.
Also new hobby has confirmed that my partner is 100% into my obsessive nature.
100% Eddie is very affectionate when I'm hyper focused on writing, and also when hyper focused on binding. Causes mild annoyance at the disruption, but I choose to be happy about it.
Like hell yes my partner fully appreciates me in my element and is super into me being super into what I love. Like...isn't that precious?? I can put up with disruptions to be loved for doing what I love.
Also: when I stabbed myself with my utility knife? Eddie didn't get home until after I went to bed. So when I woke up due to my finger throbbing, he was in his office unwinding after work. And I was high on sleeping meds and exhausted from a long day of working hard. So I just sorta shuffled all zombie-like into his office and held up my bandaged finger. He very quickly deduced what happened, jumped to attention, examined my wound, re-bandaged it, fed me pain meds, and tucked me back into bed. This probably matters not a wit to you but I adore this man with my whole heart and as I was already gushing about him...why not gush more?
Hopefully my next update will have a success story, but y'know...one thing at a time!

Happy Hump Day
We may actually be making progress. I’ve told you about the carpet saga, right? Well, we gave upon the Easton store and decided to give Delaware a try. After a couple of days of Who’s On First, yesterday afternoon Mickey received a call from the Camden, Delaware store (about 30 minutes from us) that everything was set and we can expect a call from the installers to set a date. I’m afraid to believe it. If we can get the carpet in and Matt’s room set up, we’re taking a break. We still need granite for the kitchen (which means a new sink, faucet, etc) but I’m going to hit pause for a bit. I’m not in the mood to beg people to take our money. The only reason that this carpet issue has had me so stressed is because Matt is flying in on July 1st. He was excited to be able to visit all of his family at once and booked a flight for the long holiday weekend. Of course, a month ago we didn’t think we’d still be waiting for installation. As the weeks ticked by I started getting more nervous. Then I got mad. I don’t like being mad, it’s exhausting. Yesterday I let myself get upset over all of the delays and I was in knots, so I did what I always do - I got out of my own head. I puttered in the garden and then dragged out my paints. I’ve made progress on my little chair and might even finish it today. I snapped this when it was still in the sloppy stage. I’ll go back in today and tidy up the lines.
I think when it’s finished I’ll pop a pretty fern into the seat. I may have made it too busy to put a tumble of flowers in there. So after I handed my anger over to the universe and spent my afternoon painting, we got the call about the carpet being ready! I could have spent all day being mad or all day creating something pretty - the result would have been the same. Only one is good for my soul. I’ll try to finish it today, then I can put a clear coat on it and give it a day to dry before rigging that seat for a plant. It may be in place on the porch by the weekend. I wonder which will come first, the carpet or the fern? Place your bets! I’m dying to get my printer and Cricut set up. I haven’t communed with my dead people for two months. My Cricut was packed up mid-April and here we are nearing the end of June. When I don’t have a creative outlet I am not a happy gal. I need art, books, cats, music, and chocolate. The order varies. Know what else makes me happy? The fact that we can go from Baltimore to Boston on a train for $35. Just so happens that in Boston you can catch a ferry right over to Salem. There’s also train service between Boston and Salem. With gas prices so high, that feels like a really good deal. I’m game. My apologies for the fact that this blog has become a diary of our frustrations with contractors. I truly expected to be regaling you with the wonders of the Eastern Shore by now. There’s so much to see and do. There’s a lavender farm just 12 miles from our front door. Even better, it’s called Smoky Cat Lavender Farm. It’s a u-pick sort of place, but you can also sign up for a wreath making class - picking fresh lavender and making a wreath? Yes, please! We’d been warned about beach traffic, but so far (knock on wood) we haven’t had a minute’s trouble with that. We’ve only enjoyed a fraction of what Denton offers - seems there’s a festival or celebration every week! There’s a ton of interesting history in this area that I’m itching to explore. I promise that someday soon this blog will return to the rambling nonsense that you’re used to reading. We’ve all had enough of my complaints, haven’t we? Ugh, no one wants to be that person.
I’m going to grab my paints and have a meaningful conversation with a cat while I work on that chair. It’s a beautiful day and I intend to enjoy it. I hope you’re enjoying yours. Stay safe, stay well, feed your soul.
XOXO, Nancy

Heads up to anyone who uses Cricut machines (or if you were thinking about buying one)
Cricut announced yesterday, Mach 12th 2021, that they will soon be changing their terms of service for anyone who is a free (aka, non-subscribed) user of their machines:
Basically, if you make custom shaped stickers, paper cuttings, etchings, etc-- you’re allowed to upload 20 designs to the design space. After that, you will have to pay $10 a month to subscribe to Cricut Access, which gives you unlimited uploads.
I absolutely do not pay HP every time I want to print more than 20 patterns a month, and Bernina doesn’t turn off my machine if I’ve been working for more than an hour. To make people pay for using the machines/tools that they’ve already purchased is criminal. Remember my nightlights?
I went through about 8 iterations of this before I was happy with the design-- that was multiple uploads of one design, that would be counted as 8 of my 20 free slots. Their editing software is not powerful enough to handle large SVG files either-- I’ve had to break papercraft projects into multiple uploads and recompile to get things right.
This new policy is absolutely going to hurt a LOT of small business owners like me, and shut out a lot of potential customers, because with them pulling this stunt, NO ONE will recommend purchasing their products. There’s a reason their Better Business Bureau rating is ‘F’ -- they do not respond to customer complaints or help requests, which makes me think the company isn’t doing well anyway if they didn’t hire enough people to handle help tickets, which is another reason why I think they’re pulling this move.
Are they within their rights to change the TOS? Of course! Do I think that people complaining will change the policy? Honestly, probably not. Will this go uncontested? Absolutely not! The twitter thread has a lot of really helpful information including petition links, a link to the official Cricut article, and alternative machine suggestions.
Anyway, I need some time to re-evaluate what I’ll be doing with my shop items moving forward. I love making the nightlights, but do not make enough selling craft items to justify the subscription, and would not anyway, out of principle. Not sure what I’m going to do, but I’ll keep you guys posted.

Left my two week notice on the store manager’s desk for him to read if he shows up tomorrow morning. It was either quit or piss in his coffee cup. I’d enjoy my job more if someone created an environment people want to work in. In my ten years of working retail, I have never met a more immature, lazy, petty store manager. I could deal with the Karens and the Cricut machine people and make minimum wage with a couple of complaints, but I’d live and try to enjoy working in a craft store. I’m a creative person and I sew a lot, but this man, oh boy, this man has ruined my work experience. It has showed me that I don’t have to work for managers who can’t be bothered to show up to their own job and do more than sit in the office. In the 4 months I’ve been working there, I was almost exclusively closing shift and at the register. Hardly ever saw my boss and I don’t trust people I don’t see on a semi-regular basis. Even if I don’t get the Hot Topic job, I have other places I put in my application for, so it’s not much of a loss to leave Joann’s at this time.

I am back again with the complaint posting! Because that's my life. XD I freaking love my mom's cricut. I made some awesome stuff for our dogs. I wanted to try and start making stuff to sell to help make a tiny bit of money but guess what! I'm dumb and no one will ever buy stupid crap they can make themselves. *sigh* At least Axol's bandana looks cool.

Yuuuuuup, it was all over reddit last night. There were lots of calls to file a complaint with the BBB, but they already have an F rating 😂
I can't remember the last time I bought an actual Cricut product (ahem *overpriced crap* ahem). What's worse than making everyone pay to use the product they purchased is that the program is barely functional anyway.
Just found out that now Cricut is apparently limiting how many of your own images/cut files you can load to 20/month if you don’t pay for the premium subscription version of their software...
We’re putting in the time to make the images, what the fuck cricut? How do you deserve to be paid for this??

I've been testing out different cut/blade settings (even paper options even though the video tutorial said sticky notes; also using the same paper that was recommended) because it's been doing it, "cookie cutter-style," every time I try to get it off the mat. That's really my only complaint. Other than that, I have a whole bunch of them to mess with and stick everywhere for the time being lol. #cricut #diy #stickers #gaming #animalcrossing #anime #himoutoumaruchan #pokemon #donotrepost https://www.instagram.com/p/BvNP8pNHTOG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8prbff7tgdn7

Cricut Expression 2 Review: Everything That You Need To Know
Arts and crafts is a time for enjoyment, whether it is for personal or professional endeavors. Regardless of its use, investing in the wrong die cutting machine can be time consuming, expensive, and frustrating. There are many options available today to choose between for your craft cutting needs, both manual and electronic. If you are considering an electronic cutting machine, you may not want to overlook some good older products. We will review one of these machines, the Cricut Expression 2, as well as compare it to similar products to help you decide what die cutting machine is best for you.

What Is The Product?
Cricut Expression 2
The Cricut Expression 2 is an electronic die-cutting machine for home use that cuts a wide variety of materials for primarily arts and crafts purposes. Materials can be cut from ¾ inch to 23.5 inches. You use the LCD touchscreen to make your configurations for your projects. It comes with a 12"x12" mat that grips the material in place during the cutting process. The mat also has measurement markings on it (1-inch) to assist you with alignment of your images on the materials.
There are many good die cutting machines to choose from that are beginner friendly or good for those who just want a basic machine, which may make choosing the right one for you difficult. Many of the machines have similarities, and making a purchase based on a crafting items bundled with the machine to catch your eye is not the best way to make a good choice. One of the best ways is to look at the pros and cons.
PROS
The Cricut Expression 2 is easy to use. The LCD touchscreen is large, much improved from Cricut Expression.
It comes with over eight times as many images as the Silhouette Cameo 3 does with the two included cartridges, so you can get started on crafting projects right away.
The cutting rate is fast and can cut intricate designs.
One of the best features is the detailed mat preview that allows you to see everything and correct any errors before cutting your project.
Reviewers report the machine feels a little on the heavier side, which makes it feel durable.
Unlike software-based die cutting machines, this one uses image cartridges which can plug into the Cricut, allowing you the freedom to cut wherever you want to because you do not need a computer.
CONS
It requires the use of only Cricut cartridges, which can be expensive. They can also be hard to find now that they are discontinued by Cricut.
According to a small number of reviewers, cartridge images are not “sophisticated.”
If you are looking for a die cutting machine that lets you create your own design, like the Brother ScanNCut does, then this is not the machine for you. The Cricut Craft Room software and wireless adaptor are discontinued.

Specifications
It is a great machine for people who are not tech savvy or tech crazy. You will not be stuck on the computer since it does not require a computer to use. One great feature for this machine is the light over the cutting field. It also cuts fast with great precision.
Cartridges
This incredibly portable machine comes with two cartridges. It is pre-loaded with over 800 images for you to get your creative energy flowing. The cartridges, Cricut Alphabet and Cricut Essentials, include 110 layered images, three fonts, and 40 phrases.
Display/Cutting
There is no keyboard; instead it displays on a large LCD touchscreen. Use the handy stylus on the screen and you see everything for your project. Each layer can be displayed at one time along with all the available features. Once you think you have what you want, you can arrange images on the mat by using the mat preview feature before cutting your project. This helps you use your material efficiently and prevent costly errors. No computer connection is needed to use this feature either.
Materials
Material settings can be customized, and images can be sized and rotated independently on its own mat. Images can also be flipped and slanted. Each project you work on can hold up to six mats. If you have a particular set up for materials you work with, it can be saved in the machine and included in the dropdown list under the Cut Settings Screen. There are also pre-defined materials on the list. In addition to the materials, you can make other changes such as the cutting speed and pressure.
Similarities To Cricut Expression
Like the original Cricut Expression, you can craft a variety of projects using the following materials:
Vinyl
Magnet
Fabric
Thin foil
Vellum
Cardstock
Also, like the Cricut Expression, it has the capability of cutting a batch of one image fast using the Auto Fill and Quantity features. You can quickly create projects, such as “thank you” cards, party favors, and invitations.

Pricing
While the Cricut Expression 2 is discontinued, you can continue to purchase it online at Amazon, ebay and other online platforms. Prices vary based on what is included in the package. It may or may not include the starter kit, additional cartridges, or a larger mat (12”x24”). The price range can be as high as six hundred dollars, such as on Amazon, and as low as sixty dollars for a used one on eBay for just the basics (no bundles).
There is also an Anniversary Edition of the Cricut Expression 2, which has some differences, including price. It comes with more fun designs with the cartridges Cricut Decals and Just a Note cartridges.
Additional Design Purchases
While your purchase will come with a great variety of images, there may be other images you want to explore. Cricut produced over three cartridges with different images and themes including seasonal, animals, wedding, and additional fonts that you may be able to find online.
It may be helpful to refer to the Cricut Image Library for cartridges that may be available. While the cartridges are no longer in stock with Cricut, you can use the information to review the images on each cartridge and to search the name of the cartridge you desire online. You will likely find cartridges on eBay or similar website.
Tools
You can purchase a Cricut Deep Cut Blade and Housing, which is best used for thicker materials like thick cardstock, chipboard, and magnet. It cut materials up to 1.55mm.
A larger mat is also an optional purchase and is great for larger projects. The Cricut Standard Grip Mat large mat is 12”x24” and typically sold as a set of two. Some machines may already come with the larger mat; however, typically it only comes with a 12"x12" mat.

Ease of Use
This is a nice machine for beginners and good for home crafting use. It is not designed for large productions, such as t-shirts. It cuts the basic materials, however if vinyl is your primary material, it is not the best choice. Reviewers report the image you want to cut needs to be traced with a fine black line for the machine to see and cut it. Some also report a large learning curve in figuring out how to use the machine.
Assembly Time
Inserting the cutting blade is a simple drop into the machine. Reviewers report assembly to be easy.
Build Quality
The machine works fast, and most reviewers report positively about the machines results. However, some reviewers report issues with the blade getting dull too soon as well as issues with cutting corners due to the way the mechanism is built.
Warranty
Brother offers a one-year limited warranty for parts and labor and a two-year limited warranty for electronic components and printed circuit boards.
Silhoutte Camceo 3

Warranty
One-year limited warranty for hardware. The warranty does not include the blade, cutting mat, and other consumable parts.

Ease of Use
Overall, the machine is easy to use; however, there are some setbacks. Reviewers complained about software issues and the requirement to pay ten dollars monthly for the software online to work and not being notified of it at the point of sale. You have to be connected to the internet in order to cut, and if your internet is spotty, your projects will not be properly cut. Also, intricate designs are time consuming.
Assembly Time
Set up is easy unless you are one of the few unfortunates with the software issues.
Build Quality
Reviewers report the machine is made well.
Warranty
Cricut offers a one-year warranty only when purchased from an authorized seller.

Proper Care
Before concluding our review, we thought it would be good to include a note about proper care of the machine. It is important to carefully review the manual of the Expression 2 for cleaning instructions. Many reviewers note that complaints about issues with the device, such as the blade and the mat, stem from not taking proper care of the machine as instructed. The manual details how to clean all the machine's parts. If you are more of a visual person, you can also find many videos on YouTube. If all else fails, you can always contact customer service online or otherwise for additional assistance. Cricut has an FAQ section on its website that can be searched. I've slowly been upgrading my packaging. I just started off with bubble mailers but I was feeling much too paranoid about damage in transit although I hadn't received any complaints. So I upgraded to corrugated boxes a few months ago with black packing materials. Now since I have my Cricut, I've been starting to make matching little boxes. I'm still working on additional things... but this is currently what you should expect if you do order from my shop. 👍🙂.
