American Craft Made Baltimore was such a blast this year! I have so much gratitude for this incredible artists community. I remember when I was in college and working for an artist at this very show and I thought “one day I would love to be an artist here.” 6 years later I applied and found myself in their emerging artist program.
One of the greatest joys of doing this show has been getting to know the other artists. I love my little artist family and it’s so much fun to to have our annual dinner together and catch up. I’m always so inspired by their work and work ethic and it’s so interesting to hear everyone’s new ideas.
I ended up being interviewed for tv twice during this show, it was nerve wracking but it was also a really good learning experience. I’m still not super great when it comes to talking about my work more professionally. I tend to get very nervous when put on the spot like that! But this was a good challenge to try and speak more honestly about how I create and why.
There’s a lot of orders I’m still working through from the show and I have a lot on my plate coming up. I’ll be pretty busy for the next month! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the show!

Hello fellow artists, I need your help on this!
Hello fellow artists. As a passionate affiliate entrepreneur with years of experience in fine art and digital art, I'm exploring an innovative idea and would love to get your thoughts!
I'm considering creating a unique online community dedicated to artists of all kinds.
The goal is to empower artists by providing resources and guidance to help them create multiple streams of income, leveraging both their artistic talents and affiliate marketing strategies.
Your feedback is crucial in shaping this idea into a reality. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or suggest what features you’d like to see in such a community.
Thanks so much for your time and insights! Appreciate it.

,, and that is why i say write on paper to start : because your data could easily be hacked or deleted ::; ----just as with paper books vs. digital books : there is something more permanent about a physical book ; and special about paper ::::----and it is just easier to;,; do different fonts and sizes and draw pictures , diagrams , art , make editorial notes in margins and more 🙂 ,

Well... it's sure weird to be back on this hellsite! I don't know if this is something I should advertise, but I was here (under different blog names) from 2011 to 2019 or so. And now I'm back, because I wanted an ~art blog~ and inexplicably this place is... still here.
But seriously, I'm glad to be back. I'll introduce myself better soon, but for now, here's what I'm working on lately:
World Watercolor Month-- I did these purple bottles for the "recycle" prompt.
Starting my business! Or more like, committing to my business. I've been working on it as more of a side hustle, but I want to see how far I can take it for real.
Making my own watercolor paints-- I've wanted to try this for awhile, so I'm going to learn! I just ordered what I need to get started and I'm so excited.
Anyway, follow along for this and more!

Five Interviews This Week On Lenscratch
I have five interviews posting this week on the fabulous Lenscratch, @lenscratch http://lenscratch.com Not just words, pictures too, chosen by the very same photographers. Part of the series Photographers On Photographers. Barry Schwartz In Conversation With: Rachael Wright @rachaelwrightphoto Jesse Burke @jesse_burke Anastasia Samoylova @anasamoylova Victor Moriyama @victormoriyama Jana Ašenbrennerová @asenbrennerova
I am so grateful to each of these terrific photographers who spoke at length about how they came to be professionals, how they sustain themselves, what they exhibit and publish, and what matters in their work and their lives - and why there is only so much difference between the two.
Soon, I'll have all five interviews posted on my blog, Barry Schwartz Not Barry Schwartz https://barryschwartznotbarryschwartz.com

THIS is partly what I mean. I need more stillness and rest than most. Or I get burned out fast, I'm consumed by the horrible, rote, meaningless activity and it even drains me of energy for real things, creativity, things that matter. A state of constant tension (which I have anyway but even more). NEVER a life I want to live.
I need a workday of 4-5 hours-- unless it's work I love and am passionate about-- with the rest being rest, immersing in nature, creativity, hands on things, volunteer, interacting with kids and animals, etc.
I dont care about a lot of material things anyway. So I don't need a lot of money for superficial things like fashionable clothes, fancy cars, things thst font matter compared to things that aren't quantifiable. I am the sort of person who is really not made for this society at all, with its relentless consumerism and shallowness, hollowness-- I strive for meaning, the things that are suited to my skills and natural inclinations

How to Balance Creativity and Business
Hey creative souls! 👋
So here we are, trying to balance our artistic souls with our business brains, and honestly? It's been A JOURNEY™.
You know that feeling when you're deep in your creative flow and then suddenly remember you need to do taxes? Or when you're planning content strategies at 3 AM because your business partner lives in a different timezone? (True story, btw 😅)
We've been there. We're STILL there. And we thought we'd share our messy, real, sometimes-we-totally-failed-but-hey-we-learned journey with you all.
Some real talk from our experience:
That perfect creativity/business balance everyone talks about? Total myth.
Sometimes we're 80% creative, 20% business
Other times we're deep in spreadsheets wondering where our artistic soul went
And you know what? THAT'S OKAY
We've put together everything we've learned about:
↳ Mind mapping when your brain is split between art and analytics ↳ Finding your creative-business flow (without losing your mind)
↳ Building systems that actually work (RIP our sock business experiment 🧦)
↳ Making peace with the fact that some days you're more entrepreneur than artist
This isn't one of those "10 STEPS TO SUCCESS" posts because let's be real - we're all figuring this out together. It's more like "here's what worked for us, what totally flopped, and what we're still trying to figure out."
Want to join us on this creative chaos train? Full post here: https://design2repeat.com/how-to-balance-creativity-and-business
P.S. If you're reading this while procrastinating on your business tasks to scroll Tumblr instead... we see you. We ARE you. 😉

I have a high school diploma and am a University dropout.
I don't have a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Linguistics,Music or Literature.
But I have skills, knowledge, passionate zeal for exploring, learning, showcasing and teaching what I am in love with.
As a practicioner of arts and a man of faith, I will make people feel better.
Degrees don't give me authority and they don't make me legitimate. I am good enough as I am to pursue my passions and monetize them into successful creative businesses.
I need to remind myself that doing something well matters more than what others think of me based on my credentials, or the lack thereof.

In the last issue of my newsletter, I ended with a question about how somebody like myself, who otherwise had a picture-perfect childhood filled with love and safety, could have turned into an adult with so much anxiety and irrational fear. Well … this was the kind of singular experience that can do that to a person. If you think you could be suddenly knocked down at any moment and maimed by a group of guys, you tend to tense up, and your resting state becomes one of high alert. This tension and catastrophic thinking can play a managing role in most parts of your life. Read more here - free to subscribe. Please share if you think my writing might help others. Thanks.
