Some of the Original Movies Disney+ & Hulu Removed are Available to Purchase Digitally
If you didn't know, earlier this year Disney+ & Hulu followed a trend of removing a bunch of originals from their services in a cost cutting measure. Since those were pieces of original content, you couldn't watch them anywhere else. But now 12 of the 15 movies they removed can be bought on digital storefronts like Amazon and Apple. Those movies are:
Artemis Fowl
Better Nate Than Ever
Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)
Clouds
Crater
Darby and the Dead
Flora and Ulysses
Hollywood Stargirl
The One and Only Ivan
The Princess
Rosaline
Stargirl
Trevor the Musical, Magic Camp, & Black Beauty (2020) are still unavailable.
When you buy a movie digitally, you don't technically own it. You own the right to stream that film as long as it is available on the platform you bought from. So if these are delisted from digital storefronts, you won't have access to them. UNLESS you download them. If you download a movie you've purchased (not rented) it stays downloaded even if the title is delisted. I had that happen with a movie I bought on iTunes but since I had it downloaded to an external hard drive, I could still watch it.
Physical media is always the best way to preserve media, but considering you couldn't watch these AT ALL and now you can this is definitely a win. And the more money these movies make on digital storefronts, the more its creators will make with residuals.
TL;DR - 12 movies Disney removed from streaming services can now be bought digitally and that's good.

It's so strange to think of you out there still frozen in time. You have no idea how much joy it's brought us all these years to imagine the incredible things you'll do, all the adventures you'll have. We became the masters of our own fate. And now, my friend, it's time for you to become the master of yours.

Listening to an podcast last year and one of the hosts said in 200 years people will have no idea what the media of our time was like because it will all be locked behind copyright walls. And now we're in a place where companies are straight up just deleting movies and shows that don't immediately turn a profit, keeping people from seeing them ever again.

‘Crater’ Is One of Disney’s Best Live-Action Films
Tumblr media
Rating: ★★★★½ / ★★★★
What a fantastic film.
I’m glad Disney now has the safety net of Disney+, because movies like this are allowed to exist again. Under different circumstances, I’d have said this deserved a theatrical release, but given how currently difficult it is for any movie to make a good box office return, straight-to-streaming was the smart move for this one.
I had no idea what to expect before I pressed the play button for this movie, but now that I’ve seen it, I think this is one of Disney’s best live-action films… well, ever. There isn’t a single boring moment and the cast is a joy to watch — the five main young actors all bolster this film with natural performances and the sense they’re all having fun.
Now that I mention it, this film doesn’t really have that big of a cast. Most of the screen time is dedicated to the five kids and their quest to make it to the crater. It’s a road trip movie, but not the usual kind where they meet various eccentric strangers along the way. Instead, it’s really just about these five kids and their coming-of-age, both individually and with each other.
John Griffin pens this screenplay with a lot of gentleness and intimacy, crafting an emotionally resonant and triumphant celebration of childhood friendship. There’s a lot of visual wonder, but Kyle Patrick Alvarez directs this film in a way that never loses focus on the small-scale nature of the story. This isn’t a big film, but that in itself makes this film feel even bigger, a sweet exploration on how much individual relationships and smaller moments matter.
Because there is a bigger story here — they could’ve focused on how this dystopian society came to be, or how politics between different planets function, or how the adults around the children run this society unjustly. Instead, by keeping the entire thing focused on these five young characters, the emotions all feel so superlative and the empathy you feel for these five is sky-high. You learn to love these kids, you understand how they’re feeling each and every step of the way.
I’d be amiss not to mention the many healthy male friendships present in this film. These young boys care for each other, tell each other they love each other, and even have a noteworthy amount of physical contact. I’m always here for stories that allow their male characters to unashamedly show their love for one another.
All in all, this film took my breath away when I wasn’t really expecting it to, and isn’t that a great thing? It’s always so magical when an original film grabs you like this, when you enter a film with zero expectations of what it’s going to be like and you come out with a brand new love. If streaming services are the way to get well-made big-budgeted original films again, I’ll all for it.

Cancel all your subscriptions, pirate everything, you are just allowing yourself to be fucked and they will not learn unless you actively make them.

I hope this movie will not go ignored. It's the best original film Disney has made in years.

I watched this movie called "Crater" on Disney+ and became immidiately obsessed with it! Like, the found family story? The friendships? But there's one (1!) fanfiction about it on ao3 and, like, zero posts on tumblr. This movie doesn't have a fandom and it makes me so sad. I also found out that it hast been deletet from Disney+ for some reason and you can't watch it anymore? So please tell me there are other people out there that have seen this movie and are equally as obsessed, please

The trailer for Crater looked really interesting. Like a road trip in space + some season one Stranger Things vibes. I missed it, for the mentioned reason⬇️, on Disney+ and I hope, that there will be some other ways than to pirate it. Please look at this well made photo novel!

Movie Review...Crater
Tumblr media
(3/5) I thought this was just okay.  The young group cast gives you those nostalgic feels like something from the those 80s, early 90s films (the goonies, sandlot...etc) but the story, for me, couldn't balance its youthful/adventure vs its dramatic/serious plot points. Loved the black young lead (something you wouldn't have seen when I was growing up) and the ending was sad too. This would be a good one to watch with the kids.
"Crater" is the coming-of-age adventure story of Caleb Channing (Isaiah Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony and is about to be permanently relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following the death of his father (Scott Mescudi). But before leaving, to fulfill his dad's last wish, he and his three best friends, Dylan (Billy Barratt), Borney (Orson Hong) and Marcus (Thomas Boyce), and a new arrival from Earth, Addison (Mckenna Grace), hijack a rover for one final adventure on a journey to explore a mysterious crater.

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Edit: if you are able, use $5 you would otherwise use for a streaming subscription to donate to a GazaFunds campaign.
