Fidel Fiasco on Aiguille de Blatière West Face with @susanne_meier_

A slab battle of thin cracks in its lower half followed by steeper jamming cracks higher up. It was a real test piece for me, with over 350m of sustained climbing using traditional gear on unforgiving grey granite rock. It was lucky I had a rope gun to lead all the harder pitches and ballerina her way up the wall, feeding me sweets at every belay to keep my psyche and energy high!

Utah has quickly become one of my happy places. I went rock climbing for the first time. Aiguille du Moine : La voix du druide.

This is the less visited line up the West face. Sale Athée is usually the more popular choice, probably because of the bold 6c slab on the 3rd pitch! I was happy to have led the slab pitch clean but it was really just because I was holding on for dear life as I didn’t want to take a whipper between the very spaced bolts!

The first picture was taken by @ollajot of me on the 4th pitch which was a beautiful 6b wide crack. The climbing was well protected and you can choose to either jam or layback the crack with neither option being too pumpy. I recommend this route, just take a bold slab climber with you and make sure they lead the 3rd pitch!

We unfortunately didn’t finish the route as the rain came in 🌧 early and we had to abseil down. This meant that we unfortunately missed out on the “best length” which is the last pitch, a finger crack! If anyone goes to climb it this week then let me know if it’s worth going back and doing the entire route for again 🙏

Doing my first trad climb! Scared out of my wits at first, but got over it pretty quick out of sheer ignorance. But apparently I am a bomb setter, cuz pulling out the nuts on the way down was a pain.
