ABC Sports: MNF-NFL 1983-Week 1-Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins: Intro
Source:The New Democrat Interesting matchup in 1983 between the Cowboys and Redskins in this great rivalry and when at least it was a great rivalry. Perhaps the best in the NFL at the time. How times have changed in the last twenty-years or so as the Redskins has become at best a mediocre franchise, with Cowboys being a consistent playoff contender, but even when they make the NFC Playoffs, they…

And even if Belos was queer (no evidence to support it, he just doesn’t have any human white women from his time to focus on because that’s not the show’s priority) that doesn’t make him any less racist because he’s still going after an out-group he is not a part of. He’d just be a White Queer, the kind who argue they can’t be racist because they’re oppressed too!!! Except Belos isn’t even arguing he’s not racist, he’s saying racism is good and justified actually. It’s like how White Queers expect PoC to be more patient with their racism because they’re gay, as if that somehow lessens the blow.
Given a lot of fans making these takes are white queers themselves, it actually seems fitting because they’re repeating a similar sentiment with themselves that their fave (allegedly) has; I cannot be partaking in fandom racism because I’m queer! Hence transferring traits that actually belong to the show’s women or PoC into Belos, as an excuse to talk about and even praise a white guy for things he doesn't do, while ignoring everyone else who actually does that (He does exactly this with himself in Elsewhere and Elsewhen).
Hence trying to make Philip into a Weird Kid who likes unconventional animals, when Luz is right there and has been since the first scene ever. Belos was not a Weird Kid he was a white boy adhering to social norms by playing Cowboys vs Indians (Witch Hunter Edition), which is about how it's okay to dehumanize and kill whatever's different. In a modern context he’s the kid grossed out by Luz’s snakeskin, he’s an adult calling pest control. He’d be complaining about how he can't play Cowboys vs Indians anymore, and that changing the name of the Redskins football team is 'woke'.
Me slamming posts and pans against each other: Belos is a white supremacist because he grew up in a white supremacist society and liked the way it made him feel. He does not try to commit genocide because he’s secretly trans or gay and doesn’t know how to handle it. He commits genocide because he sees witches as subclass beings that shouldn’t exist.
#Not even getting into those who think being PoC excuses them from reflecting on internalized biases and use their status to excuse white#people and speak over PoC who are actually informed and even experienced racism#The Owl House#Emperor Belos#Philip Wittebane#Fandom Racism#White Favoritism#Reblog

A Henty A Week
We are using the occasion of Native American Heritage month to state unequivocally that we reject George Alfred Henty’s representation of Native Americans in his work Redskin and Cow-boy: A Tale of the Western Plain. We hold two editions of this title published by Charles Scribner’s Sons: one published in 1891 and another published in 1916.
The tale is exactly what might be expected from a 19th century British imperialist concocting an adventure story based upon the themes of manifest destiny, ranching, and American cowboys. "Cowboys vs Indians” themes and tropes pervade not only popular culture but also the curriculum and academy of the United States still. Instead of reading historical Western fiction written by white people like G.A. Henty, we encourage readers to seek out works created by native peoples. Our own Native American and Hawaiian Literature Collection is a good place to start.
For example, the excerpt above from the poem “The Cattle Thief” by Tekahionwake (E. Pauline Johnson, 1861-1913), published in her 1895 collection The White Wampum, explores the violence of the westward migration of European settlers in the Americas on native people. You can read more about this poet and her publications in this post.
Likewise, one can read Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz‘s and Dina Gilio-Whitaker’s “All the Real Indians Died Off”: and 20 Other Myths About Native Americans (Beacon Press, 2016), to tackle biases and stereotypes about Native American/settler interactions. For example, see their chapters on “Myth 5: Indians Were Savage and Warlike” or “Myth 7: Europeans Brought Civilization to the Backward Indians.” Learn more about these authors and their publication in this post
Want to learn more? Check out our post series Native American/First Nations Woman Writer of the Week.
Or, stop by during our walk-in hours, send us an e-mail, or request a research consultation in order to find more great resources by Native Americans or First Nations people!
UWM Special Collections department has a UWM Native American and Hawaiian Literature Collection, which endeavors to be a comprehensive collection of American Indian and Native Hawaiian thought and literary effort consisting of materials written or created by native peoples of the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada from all historical and contemporary periods. Materials in the collection include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, poetry, journalism, illustration and photography, transcriptions of oral literature, and native language materials. UWM Special Collections also works closely with the Electa Quinney Institute to identify, acquire, and preserve scholarly, educational, and historical materials relating to American Indian languages, especially the endangered languages of the American Indian peoples of Wisconsin (Ho-Chunk, Mohican, Menominee, Ojibwe, Oneida, and Potawatomi).
-Katie, Special Collections Graduate Intern
We acknowledge in Milwaukee that we live and work on traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, and Menominee homeland along the southwest shores of Michigami, North America’s largest system of freshwater lakes, where the Milwaukee, Menominee, and Kinnickinnic rivers meet and the people of Wisconsin’s sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida, and Mohican nations remain present.

Analysis
The NFC East is matched up against the AFC North, one of the toughest divisions to read, in 2020.The Baltimore Ravens not only have all of their best players back but also added Calais Campbell and Michael Brockers to the defensive line. Opposing teams will have had an entire offseason to figure out an approach to slow down Lamar Jackson and Baltimore’s high-powered offense, though. The Cleveland Browns made a few noteworthy signings (Jack Conklin and Austin Hooper being the best of the bunch) to fortify an already talented roster. Still, they won’t receive the benefit of the doubt after their spectacular flameout in 2019.And the Pittsburgh Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger back healthy after neither Mason Rudolph nor Devlin Hodges played well in his absence. Counting on a 38-year-old who’s coming off season-ending elbow surgery carries a level of risk all the same as the Steelers aim for the playoffs. The AFC North could prove to be an easy draw, or it could feature three genuine postseason contenders.Within the NFC, the Cowboys have precious few gimmes. They host the San Francisco 49ers and hit the road to play the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings. All in all, Dallas’ upcoming slate looks pretty unforgiving.Match-upsIn this case, the obvious answer is also the correct one.The Philadelphia Eagles overtook the Cowboys for first place in the division with their Week 16 victory in 2019. Dallas could have clinched a playoff berth by defeating Philadelphia but instead missed the postseason altogether. The NFC East is likely to be a battle between the Eagles and Cowboys once again. The Washington Redskins made a coaching upgrade by hiring Ron Rivera, but the team is in such rough shape that Rivera might not be able to deliver tangible results until 2021. Likewise, the New York Giants haven’t done enough to significantly improve, leaving their hopes tied to Daniel Jones’ progress. The outcome of Dallas and Philadelphia’s season series could tilt the divisional title race.In the event the Cowboys are contending for the wild card, the games against the Seahawks, Rams and Vikings could be equally as important.

Divisional week
Hawk Valley
Quick Review
The Broncos won their last game of year 16-15. In typical Bronco fashion they won the first half 10-3, but lost the second half 12-6. The Raiders failed to score on a two point conversion at the end of the game.

During the offseason
The football season is over and the football guys have turned the operation over to the business side. On the first day of the offseason, the trust led by CEO Joe Ellis, essentially said the team is for sale. If you have $3 billion dollars, the team is yours.
Why would they start the offseason with that news? In order for the Bowlens to keep the team, everyone in the Bowlen family would have to vote for Brittany to take over. Ellis has said that when the family formally rejects Brittany, the trust will put the team up for sale because there’s little chance of any minds being changed at that time. For example, Pat’s brother Bill tried suing Ellis in an attempt to dissolve the trust before the season started. That lawsuit was dismissed. Beth Bowlen Wallace also wants to own the team. Bowlen has seven kids which apparently have no interest in football or business, so they’re ready to cash out.
Lock’s performance over the last five weeks has changed the outlook for this offseason. They are no longer looking to the draft for a quarterback. Some people think they’ll draft linemen. Hopefully they’ll draft speed, that’s what they need on offense.
My big fear is that John Elway loves old quarterbacks and there will be several of those to choose from this summer.

Making sense of winning percentage and net points
Pointing out teams that have a winning percentage of less than or equal to 50 percent is great and all but how does that rank in the NFL overall? Good question, so I've decided to include the top three teams in each conference for comparison.

My super bowl matchup prediction is the 49ers vs the Chiefs.
This season I redesigned the site and I think it's more useful this way. I'm sure mistakes were made that I didn't catch, but I hope they were minor. Have a great winter and enjoy the offseason!
