SPONSORSHIPS & THE ACTIVITY SQUARE 🦢 laurier academy dr
hi. uh. I may have forgotten abt this blog... BUT I HAVE SOME NEW IDEAS SO... do expect some posts.
Sponsorships. Laurier has a ton of them.
What do sponsorships do (other than provide laurier with money, lmao) and how do they affect students?
table of contents:
sponsorships: the academy - how sponsorships affect the academy
the activity square - purpose
sponsorships: student body - perks students get
clubs - what do sponsorships do for clubs
sponsorships: the academy
It definitely depends on the sponsor and how much Laurier allows them to do. For example, sometimes, a sponsor will only give students discount codes to use on their website through text. Other times, sponsors will be able to set up a stall in the entertainment street of Laurier's campus.
Generally, sponsors hope for the students to post about the food, makeup, skincare, service, stationary, or whatever online so that other people will buy from the brand.
Sometimes, brands will be specifically stationed in the amendities buildings (Aeos, Idle Hour, ReFlow, and Espoa).
Do expect some flyers hanging around about the brands-- some brands may even advertise a coupon code on the poster.
the activity square
The activity square is essentially the entertainment area. Cafes, student run events, Aeos, Idle Hour, ReFlow, Espoa, and Lemuna are here.
Lemuna (le-moo-na) is essentially the sponsor building. New products are constantly introduced here. Usually they're discounted, and oftentimes students will do a Lemuna haul/tour every week or month.
What kinds of companies like to distribute their products here?:
Espoir
LilybyRed
Romand
Snack companies
Stationary companies
Isntree
Flower knows
Fwee
Judydoll
Parnell
Shisedo
Peripera
Clio
Wakemake
Amuse
Infold pte. ltd (Mostly love nikki stuff)
These are not the only companies that sponsor Laurier, this is just a short list. A lot of the times, free bees are given out to students. While makeup and skincare are more popularly sponsored here, you can find other things like ramen, ice cream, gum, and hair products here too.
sponsorships: the student body
As mentioned previously, laurier students receive discounts at sponsored shops. Students may also receive free PR, but usually companies like to target the top 30~ students in the school.
Students ranked in the top 10 should expect to receive at least 1-3 products through PR per week.
clubs
The script states that companies often sponsor clubs. Club company sponsors tend to receive stuff more often from the company, and companies usually correspond with the theme of the club.
Like for (my fav) the Afternoon Tea club, since it's a lolita fashion club, Flowerknows, Devil Inspired, and some smaller brands like Angelic Pretty like to sponsor this club.
Companies will financially aid the club and send in their products for the students to use either for free with no obligation to post about it, or in exchange for posting/directly advertising the products.

Revitalizing Local Retail: How The Dash Shop Empowers Small Businesses in the Age of E-Commerce Giants
The landscape of retail has been undergoing a major shift over the past decade. Brick-and-mortar stores, once the heart of local communities, are facing unprecedented challenges. The rise of big online e-commerce platforms has brought about convenience and variety for customers, but it has also squeezed the lifeblood out of many small retailers. As local shops struggle to compete with the sheer scale and reach of these digital behemoths, they often find themselves fighting an uphill battle to stay relevant and profitable. But there’s hope on the horizon, and it’s called The Dash Shop.
The Struggle of Local Retailers
Walk down any main street in a small town or city, and you’ll likely see the signs: “For Rent” or “Closing Down Sale.” These aren’t just businesses shutting their doors; they’re parts of our community’s fabric being torn away. Small retailers are the backbone of local economies, offering unique products, personalized customer service, and a sense of community that giant online platforms simply can’t match. However, the challenges they face are immense.
Rent and operational costs continue to rise, while foot traffic dwindles as more consumers turn to the convenience of online shopping. The pandemic only accelerated this trend, pushing many local retailers to the brink. Without the vast resources of large corporations, these businesses often find it difficult to invest in the technology and marketing needed to compete in the digital age.
Enter The Dash Shop: Empowering Local Retailers
The Dash Shop is here to change the game. Our mission is simple yet profound: to give power back to the local retailers. We believe that every small business should have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the competition. With The Dash Shop, retailers can establish an online presence that allows them to reach their local customers more effectively and efficiently.
No Commission Fees, More Profit
One of the biggest challenges small retailers face when selling online is the high commission fees charged by major e-commerce platforms. These fees can eat into already thin profit margins, making it even harder for local shops to stay afloat. The Dash Shop eliminates this hurdle by offering a platform where retailers can sell their products without incurring any commission fees. This means more money stays in the pockets of the people who need it most – the local business owners.
Fast and Secure Local Deliveries
Another significant advantage of The Dash Shop is our robust delivery system. Retailers can sell their products online and have them delivered directly to their local customers in a fast and efficient manner. This isn’t just about speed; it’s about security and reliability. With The Dash Shop, retailers don’t have to worry about their products getting lost or stolen during the delivery process. Our system ensures that products reach their destination safely, giving both retailers and customers peace of mind.
Driving Foot Traffic with Free Discount Coupons
In addition to facilitating online sales, The Dash Shop also helps retailers drive foot traffic to their physical stores. How? By allowing them to create and distribute discount coupons at no cost. These coupons are a powerful tool for attracting customers, encouraging them to visit the store and discover the unique products and personalized service that local retailers offer.
Imagine being able to offer your customers a special discount on their favorite items or a promotion on new arrivals without worrying about the cost of printing and distributing coupons. With The Dash Shop, it’s all possible and free. This feature not only boosts sales but also helps to build stronger relationships between retailers and their local communities.
A Community-Centric Approach
The Dash Shop isn’t just a platform; it’s a community. We understand that small businesses are the heart of our neighborhoods. They create jobs, support local events, and give our towns and cities their unique character. By providing retailers with the tools they need to succeed, The Dash Shop is helping to ensure that our communities remain vibrant and prosperous.
The Future is Local
The retail landscape is changing, but that doesn’t mean local shops have to disappear. With The Dash Shop, small businesses can embrace the future while staying true to their roots. They can compete with the giants of e-commerce, attract more customers, and keep more of their hard-earned profits. It’s about leveling the playing field and ensuring that the charm and character of our local communities don’t get lost in the shuffle of progress.
Join the Movement
If you’re a small retailer feeling the pressure of the digital age, know that you’re not alone. The Dash Shop is here to support you, providing a platform that empowers you to thrive in an increasingly competitive market. Join us in our mission to revitalize local retail and give power back to the businesses that make our communities special. The future of retail is local, and with The Dash Shop, that future is bright.

(This is the anon who wrote about the farmer finding a wild Pokémon.) Just thought of this after I submitted the previous post, but about your view about Joja being an evil team that succeeded, if my prompt from earlier did happen, do you think Morris or Joja Corp would first attempt to steal the Pokémon and if that didn't work, put the farmer in a position where they have to give them up (assuming that's what Joja is like in this mod)?
*Evil smile*
So you wanna know about Joja Corp and how they are like in this mod.
Pull up a chair grab some popcorn.
I'm about to give you the whole run down of how they are.
Now to start off - Morris here has NO IDEA. What Joja Coporation has done in the past when it comes to the extermination and deportation of Pokémon.
Yes, I said the word extermination. Fair warning things are going to get very dark here.... There is a reason why all of this is has happened in the past or behind the scenes. (Meaning, won't be directly said in the mod itself.)
Also just to keep things on track! Submas... had no idea how big of a mess they got into, and are too busy with the station to look into it much. This is your silly story in which you help submas integrate in a run-down town who fears Pokémon as an invasive species! There's not much you can do besides helping them settle and hope the common sentiment changes a bit. Joja stuff is something the farmer can't get too involved in because Morris isn't even that involved in the big picture… Joja already succeeded. There's a lot going on outside of Pelican Town, but just like the war with the Gotoro Empire, there's nothing you can do about it but experience the ripples from its effects from a relatively isolated town.
Morris himself has grown up without any Pokémon around - meaning any information about Pokémon from schools, libraries, etc is heavily censored or outright struck from history.
The most he knows is that Pokémon were once a thing in the valley and now they are not. He does not know about the involvement Joja Cooperation as a whole had, and honestly, Joja is keeping it that way.
Plus, Morris as a character is always trying to impress his higher-ups. What better way then to make sure the Joja Mart he was entrusted with thrives within the small town that is Pelican Town! Coupons! Coupons everywhere!
He just wants to do his job and do so where it will make the higher-ups be proud of him.
But really he is just one of the many pawns Joja Coporation has at their disposal.... To keep a hold of the people you need to keep ahold of the consumer. Buy from Joja Mart! They are Mega Corporation!
And as stated from the Stardew Valley Wiki.
"A megacorp that seems to cover shipping, warehousing, distribution, mining activities, emergency medical services, and energy drink production."
Which means they most likely have a political or social stake claim within the governing body of The Ferngill Republic. Think about the war that is currently going on with the Gotoro Empire. Medical supplies sent via Joja itself to the troops of the Ferngill Republic.
Joja Coporation itself clearly has control over what the people can say or do etc.
Between Morris and submas... They're evenly matched. They have one-track minds when it comes to doing their job. They're workaholics, but politics isn't in their standard operating procedure.
You as the farmer (If you did not skip the intro) worked in a cubicle! And there where security people, most likely CEO's looking down below at you from glass windows as you work!
(Like a prison....)
So when it comes to Pokémon itself; Joja Coporation got rid of them to have more control over the people.
Over the Republic as a whole.
From spreading false information, propaganda and playing the messy board game that is politics. They convinced the government and the people Pokémon were bad and that the ecological system was at risk due to them. And during the time that Granny Evelyn and George where growing up in...
Pokémon were either....
Killed.
Captured and deported.
Or the Pokémon themselves found means of escape out of the region with their lives all while their habitats were being wiped out (meaning food, berries etc.) That made them thrive.
I imagine the berries to be their first target in their plan of wiping out Pokémon... Joja provides medical supplies and growing berries is practically free healthcare (curing poison and paralysis?). It's just one step in their monopoly and also serves to make their job of eradicating Pokémon from the region easier. They would just starve off. It may have been a bit difficult to convince the general public that killing off Pokémon directly is for the supposed greater good at first (animal empathy and all), but they could have managed to spread something about how Pokémon berries are bad. Their healing properties are a bit absurd, so they could spread fear about them being sketchy (think like... how MSG occurs naturally in tomatoes but everyone has a bit of xenophobia about MSG as a concept).
Not to mention... Pokémon are quite powerful. There's some truth in what Joja spreads. They easilly overrun an ecosystem (as shown by pretty much every other region...), so not removing them from a region runs the risk of regular animals going exctinct instead. It's one or the other. Being a megacorp having control over one of the last few regions without Pokémon puts you in a pretty good position from a business standpoint since everyone relies on you to be a major exporter of normal goods. It's basically world domination for Joja.
Without Pokémon there was no more that sense of companionship or the ideas of traveling or journeying and discovering one's selves as a kid. Jobs became more laborious, less fun, and overall people had to adapt without Pokémon.
Not to mention the tactics which Joja used painted Pokémon in a harsh light... Which means you're in the Hisuian Era of thinking when it comes to Pokémon. Because no one understands them anymore.... and it doesn't help the fact that the Ferngill Republic is isolated from the rest of the world as a region and home.
It's sad, but submas gets used to it eventually. Which makes a certain someone perfect for the job of dealing with the Hisuian era...
Now I can hear that question brewing.
"BUT STEWARDESS KADE! WHAT ABOUT THE POKÉMON LEAGUE!? WOULDN'T THEY BE ABLE TO STOP 'EM?"
Oh, for sure.... If they even had a Pokémon League body government to begin with.
The Ferngill Republic has no Pokémon-focused government even when they had Pokémon. Think of regions within Pokémon canon like - the Almia region.
If you have not played Pokémon Ranger series as a kid when growing up I highly recommend it! I draw a lot of inspiration from Shadows of Almia in terms of how Joja Coporation is.
As for the mainline games, Alola- despite having a focus on Pokemon- is pretty isolated since they haven't quite established a League like the others yet. You can get away with a lot when there's no Pokémon League.
There is no Pokémon League or Gym System. They're just people living their average lives. Small towns. Some cities. etc. Sure, they have the Ranger Union in Almia, but not every region has a Pokémon Ranger base. The same could be said for the Ferngill Republic.
Joja as a whole had completed its goal of taking control.
At least so they think....
The funny thing about history is that - it is never truly gone. People still find out what has happened.
So what do you think is on their minds when they find out that the government has accepted paperwork and access for oh I don't know two train conductors to come over and repair a train infrastructure within Stardew Valley itself.
Joja CEO's is going to tell Morris to do anything he can to get that railroad... And Morris won't question why. Until things don't start to add up... Why care about a bunch of train conductors with Pokémon?
Oh, now suddenly you are learning more about Pokémon.... and you begin to question the history of everything. You begin to question Joja itself. That control is slipping and it has been possibly before Ingo and Emmet even arrived.
Now, what if I told you there are two divisions of Joja here. The ones who believe that Pokémon are horrible and must be gotten rid of. And the ones who believe that they must adapt and thrive with them as partners.
Joja itself is going to be infighting as you now have a Team Plasma and Neo Plasma situation going on.....
But, as a farmer, a grocery store clerk, and a pair of conductors, you can't do anything about it. You don't even know where to start. Your only lead is a general store manager who's pretty uninvolved in the political aspect. You have no choice but to remain uninvolved and just hope they collapse on themselves.
To put it simply, you the farmer, Ingo, Emmet, Morris etc. This is all going on in the background... outside of the valley. This is all stuff that is way above everyone. You're just average everyday people and the world is going to keep turning and keep burning (love that song so much...). It going to keep developing in the background and you're just going to get glimpses here and there of its history.
So really No, Joja or Morris won't go after Pokémon. After all, Joja Coporation has a public image to uphold and maintain now they completed their goals. But that doesn't mean they can't find other ways to prevent such things from happening or control slipping from their grasps.
As for your Joltik... They're in the clear! Properly documented and legally immigrated despite everything. A wild Pokémon might not fare so well, but at least Emmet can file the paperwork away to keep your Pokémon safe when it comes down to it.

"It's crucial to be ready for all life has to throw at you, so let me help you put your mind at ease Mademoiselle Clorinde." Hu Tao walked back and forth quite quickly, looking over the Duelist as the two spoke. Trying to get a good view of status, even if she wasn't nearly as familiar with that in regards to Fontaine customs.
"Let me offer you one of the best deals for your future, a reassurance that your soul will peacefully pass to the afterlife~" And now Hu Tao quickly placed a number of coupons into Clorinde's hand. 40% off when you pay for multiple services, buy 1 get 3 deals, and several other deals...for a funeral service. The director then put her hands behind her back, looking up to meet the gaze of her future customer.
So it was her. A sigh is promptly suppressed as the Champion Duelist gave a cursory glance towards the coupons and extended it back towards the eccentric funeral director.
"Thanks but I'll have to decline. I'm pretty sure that when I pass, it will be anything but peaceful. Discussions of mortality aside-"
Her brows furrowed into a frown.
"Did you apply for the necessary permits to be distributing your coupons here?"

Money and Exchange
(...)
"When talking about the Spanish Revolution, the confusion stems from the failure to stipulate that “abolishing money” refers to the official national money of Spain as distinct from the local money issued by the collectives. Only the local use of this national currency was abolished or, most often, in varying degrees curtailed. (The value of goods and the balancing of accounts was still calculated in terms of the peseta.) It would be more correct to say that the libertarian collectives in each locality (to assure just and equitable sharing of goods and services, and prevent hoarding and speculation) worked out their own systems of exchange. They issued their own local money in the form of vouchers, tokens, rationing booklets, certificates, coupons, etc., which carried no interest and were not negotiable outside of the issuing collective.
Aside from the loose use of the term “money,” Burnett Bolloten gives a fair general idea of the exchange system in typical libertarian communities:
In those libertarian communities where money was suppressed, wages were paid in coupons, the scale being determined by the size of the family. Locally produced goods, if abundant, such as bread, wine, and olive oil, were distributed freely, while other articles could be obtained by means of coupons at the communal depot. Surplus goods were exchanged with other anarchist towns and villages, money [the legal national currency] being used only for transactions with those communities that had not yet adopted the new system. (pp. 61, 62)
Some collectives did in fact abolish money. They had no system of exchange, not even coupons. For example, a resident of Magdalena de Pulpis, when asked, “How do you organize without money? Do you use barter, a coupon book, or anything else?,” replied, “Nothing. Everyone works and everyone has the right to what he needs free of charge. He simply goes to the store where provisions and all other necessities are supplied. Everything is distributed free with only a notation of what he took.”
However, these attempts to really abolish money were not generally successful. Peirats recalls that:
Under the constant pressure of political-military circumstances, the first attempts to abolish money and wages had to be abandoned and replaced by the family wage. (Los Anarquistas en la Crisis Politica Española, p. 131)
Some kind of family wage became quite common in the Spanish collectives. This wage was assigned to families and varied according to the number of members in a family. It was based on the needs of the family rather than on the product of the family members. The exact nature of a particular family wage system depended on numerous things (like the relative abundance or scarcity of necessities for a collective or region). This led to a wide variety of “monetary” experiments. Leval comments that:
In regions like Castile, Catalonia, or in the Levant, where the republican state was more entrenched, the “peseta,” official national currency based on the gold standard, was retained. Although obliged to use the “peseta” as the standard of value and unit of distribution, the libertarian communist collectives adopted the family wage...Where the state was weaker, each village tackled exchange in its own fashion. In such localities, above all Aragon, local collectives issued as many as 250 and even 300 different kinds of local money, vouchers, coupons, ration booklets, metal tokens, cards, etc.[39] (Espagne Libertaire, pp. 203, 208)
This chaotic situation could not be tolerated for long. The Congress of the Aragon Federation of Peasant Collectives, for instance, unanimously agreed to replace local currencies with a uniform ration booklet for all the Aragon collectives, leaving it for each collective to stipulate the quantity of items available to each family or individual living alone.
The family ration booklet, dated April 23, 1937, (when the new system went into effect) to December 31, 1937, was divided into weekly columns enumerating 21 articles more or less in the following order: bread, wine, oil, rice, chick peas, green beans, flour, sausage and smoked sausage, lard, sugar, pudding, various preserves, canned tomatoes, potatoes, milk, lentils, olives, chocolate, footwear, household articles, hardware, haberdashery... (Gaston Leval, Espagne Libertaire, p. 210)
A uniform ration booklet was one attempt to refine a chaotic situation. Another problem was how to cope with the complex transactions necessary in the economic world without falling back to old statist and capitalist ways of doing things. Gaston Leval reports the decision of the Peasant Federation of Levant:
to establish a bank of our own ... to keep things moving between our collectivized villages, and for trade with other towns ... instead of helping the government cut the ground from under us. (Né Franco né Stalin, p. 310)
(...)
Souchy points out that:
Widespread and complex transactions made it necessary for the Federation to establish its own bank... The bank, through its federated branches, coordinated the exchange and sale of products within Republican Spain and regulated all matters pertaining to foreign trade. The Federation’s bank was of course administered by the Bank Workers Union... In the Central Labor Bank of Catalonia, organized in August, 1937, cash transactions were reduced to a minimum. Credit was not given in cash. The bank balanced accounts between collectives and arranged credit when needed, not in cash, but in exchange of goods or services... It served as a coordinating agency. (Souchy, pp. 156, 157)

Effective Content Development
Content marketing strategy can also be referred to as a content marketing plan. It's a businesses strategic approach to creating, managing and distributing all content assets, including reporting and documenting success metrics. A content strategy typically involves a content calendar that will help you execute your content plan, broken down into deliverables on a yearly or quarterly basis.
Understanding effective content development is essential to any business. You can’t just create a blog post, publish it, and expect it to drive results in your company. You need to distribute that content to the right people at the right time to have the most impact on your target audience. Excellent content marketing has to provide value for your audience, and if it doesn't, it won't be very effective. Well-crafted content can place our company in the position of a thought leader, where you can inform and educate potential buyers. Providing valuable content can form a strong bond between our brand and customers that grows and strengthens over time. Take this blog post, they're an excellent way to inform, educate, and build your audience.
Brand consistency is critical in content marketing. We have to make sure our content is published regularly so that your audience knows when to come back. With a content calendar, we can better picture what content you will publish and when. A calendar also ensures that more strategic about the content. We publish our content and make sure that our response is just as quick with our audience.
Becoming a social organization is important for content strategy and effectively sharing that content with a particular audience. As more customers increasingly interact with each other in the social sphere, often the topic of those conversations is the companies they do business with, the experiences they have with those organizations, and the pros and cons of using their products and services. Whether their comments are positive or negative, companies have no choice but to interact with their customers online, or risk appearing indifferent. So, transforming from a company that simply responds to the occasional tweet from an irate customer or posts the occasional coupon on Facebook to a truly social organization requires a multi-pronged approach that will ingrain social elements within the company's overall business strategy. Which in my case worked with a plastic surgery center that I was working with.
Check out this video on importance of brand strategy.

Hi I work at a native plant nursery in the Pacific Northwest!
The Portland Plant List is the rubric used by the Backyard Habitat Program to certify residential planting projects in the Portland area, including Southwest Washington. If you're within the Backyard Habitat service area, their team will come to your property and perform a site assessment, then provide a comprehensive list of plants that will work on your property, along with coupons to local native nurseries and lots of great resources. Plus you get a snazzy sign!
Some blogs/websites with directories of native plant nurseries (cannot vouch for how complete these are, please check with the business first):
Grow It Build It
The Plant Native
PlantNative
Other resources:
Real Gardens Grow Natives, a PNW-focused book and website
Native Plants PNW, an incredible resource I use CONSTANTLY. Covers plant distribution, habitat, growth conditions, ID advice, propagation tips and even ethnobotanical uses.
Washington Native Plant Society, with regional chapters and lots of info for conservation, volunteering, gardening and more.
Also, lots of language around planting natives is aimed at homeowners and/or those able-bodied enough to take care of huge swathes of land. Renters can and should get in on native planting!! Small yards are essential ecosystem participants!! A patio garden in a noisy urban zone is still a garden!!! Look at the High Line conversion in Manhattan - it's in the middle of goddamn MANHATTAN and it's not even fully planted with natives but monarch butterflies and native bees still find it and use it! Even if all you can contribute is a trio of keystone species in a container, that's one more piece of habitat that wasn't there before and so many bugs and birds will thank you!
Planet's Fucked: What Can You Do To Help? (Long Post)
Since nobody is talking about the existential threat to the climate and the environment a second Trump term/Republican government control will cause, which to me supersedes literally every other issue, I wanted to just say my two cents, and some things you can do to help. I am a conservation biologist, whose field was hit substantially by the first Trump presidency. I study wild bees, birds, and plants.
In case anyone forgot what he did last time, he gagged scientists' ability to talk about climate change, he tried zeroing budgets for agencies like the NOAA, he attempted to gut protections in the Endangered Species Act (mainly by redefining 'take' in a way that would allow corporations to destroy habitat of imperiled species with no ramifications), he tried to do the same for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (the law that offers official protection for native non-game birds), he sought to expand oil and coal extraction from federal protected lands, he shrunk the size of multiple national preserves, HE PULLED US OUT OF THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT, and more.
We are at a crucial tipping point in being able to slow the pace of climate change, where we decide what emissions scenario we will operate at, with existential consequences for both the environment and people. We are also in the middle of the Sixth Mass Extinction, with the rate of species extinctions far surpassing background rates due completely to human actions. What we do now will determine the fate of the environment for hundreds or thousands of years - from our ability to grow key food crops (goodbye corn belt! I hated you anyway but), to the pressure on coastal communities that will face the brunt of sea level rise and intensifying extreme weather events, to desertification, ocean acidification, wildfires, melting permafrost (yay, outbreaks of deadly frozen viruses!), and a breaking down of ecosystems and ecosystem services due to continued habitat loss and species declines, especially insect declines. The fact that the environment is clearly a low priority issue despite the very real existential threat to so many people, is beyond my ability to understand. I do partly blame the public education system for offering no mandatory environmental science curriculum or any at all in most places. What it means is that it will take the support of everyone who does care to make any amount of difference in this steeply uphill battle.
There are not enough environmental scientists to solve these issues, not if public support is not on our side and the majority of the general public is either uninformed or actively hostile towards climate science (or any conservation science).
So what can you, my fellow Americans, do to help mitigate and minimize the inevitable damage that lay ahead?
I'm not going to tell you to recycle more or take shorter showers. I'll be honest, that stuff is a drop in the bucket. What does matter on the individual level is restoring and protecting habitat, reducing threats to at-risk species, reducing pesticide use, improving agricultural practices, and pushing for policy changes. Restoring CONNECTIVITY to our landscape - corridors of contiguous habitat - will make all the difference for wildlife to be able to survive a changing climate and continued human population expansion.
**Caveat that I work in the northeast with pollinators and birds so I cannot provide specific organizations for some topics, including climate change focused NGOs. Scientists on tumblr who specialize in other fields, please add your own recommended resources. **
We need two things: FUNDING and MANPOWER.
You may surprised to find that an insane amount of conservation work is carried out by volunteers. We don't ever have the funds to pay most of the people who want to help. If you really really care, consider going into a conservation-related field as a career. It's rewarding, passionate work.
At the national level, please support:
The Nature Conservancy
Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation
Cornell Lab of Ornithology (including eBird)
National Audubon Society
Federal Duck Stamps (you don't need to be a hunter to buy one!)
These first four work to acquire and restore critical habitat, change environmental policy, and educate the public. There is almost certainly a Nature Conservancy-owned property within driving distance of you. Xerces plays a very large role in pollinator conservation, including sustainable agriculture, native bee monitoring programs, and the Bee City/Bee Campus USA programs. The Lab of O is one of the world's leaders in bird research and conservation. Audubon focuses on bird conservation. You can get annual memberships to these organizations and receive cool swag and/or a subscription to their publications which are well worth it. You can also volunteer your time; we need thousands of volunteers to do everything from conducting wildlife surveys, invasive species removal, providing outreach programming, managing habitat/clearing trails, planting trees, you name it. Federal Duck Stamps are the major revenue for wetland conservation; hunters need to buy them to hunt waterfowl but anyone can get them to collect!
THERE ARE DEFINITELY MORE, but these are a start.
Additionally, any federal or local organizations that seek to provide support and relief to those affected by hurricanes, sea level rise, any form of coastal climate change...
At the regional level:
These are a list of topics that affect major regions of the United States. Since I do not work in most of these areas I don't feel confident recommending specific organizations, but please seek resources relating to these as they are likely major conservation issues near you.
PRAIRIE CONSERVATION & PRAIRIE POTHOLE WETLANDS
DRYING OF THE COLORADO RIVER (good overview video linked)
PROTECTION OF ESTUARIES AND SALTMARSH, ESPECIALLY IN THE DELAWARE BAY AND LONG ISLAND (and mangroves further south, everglades etc; this includes restoring LIVING SHORELINES instead of concrete storm walls; also check out the likely-soon extinction of saltmarsh sparrows)
UNDAMMING MAJOR RIVERS (not just the Colorado; restoring salmon runs, restoring historic floodplains)
NATIVE POLLINATOR DECLINES (NOT honeybees. for fuck's sake. honeybees are non-native domesticated animals. don't you DARE get honeybee hives to 'save the bees')
WILDLIFE ALONG THE SOUTHERN BORDER (support the Mission Butterfly Center!)
INVASIVE PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES (this is everywhere but the specifics will differ regionally, dear lord please help Hawaii)
LOSS OF WETLANDS NATIONWIDE (some states have lost over 90% of their wetlands, I'm looking at you California, Ohio, Illinois)
INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE, esp in the CORN BELT and CALIFORNIA - this is an issue much bigger than each of us, but we can work incrementally to promote sustainable practices and create habitat in farmland-dominated areas. Support small, local farms, especially those that use soil regenerative practices, no-till agriculture, no pesticides/Integrated Pest Management/no neonicotinoids/at least non-persistent pesticides. We need more farmers enrolling in NRCS programs to put farmland in temporary or permanent wetland easements, or to rent the land for a 30-year solar farm cycle. We've lost over 99% of our prairies to corn and soybeans. Let's not make it 100%.
INDIGENOUS LAND-BACK EFFORTS/INDIGENOUS LAND MANAGEMENT/TEK (adding this because there have been increasing efforts not just for reparations but to also allow indigenous communities to steward and manage lands either fully independently or alongside western science, and it would have great benefits for both people and the land; I know others on here could speak much more on this. Please platform indigenous voices)
HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS (get your neighbors to stop dumping fertilizers on their lawn next to lakes, reduce agricultural runoff)
OCEAN PLASTIC (it's not straws, it's mostly commercial fishing line/trawling equipment and microplastics)
A lot of these are interconnected. And of course not a complete list.
At the state and local level:
You probably have the most power to make change at the local level!
Support or volunteer at your local nature centers, local/state land conservancy non-profits (find out who owns&manages the preserves you like to hike at!), state fish & game dept/non-game program, local Audubon chapters (they do a LOT). Participate in a Christmas Bird Count!
Join local garden clubs, which install and maintain town plantings - encourage them to use NATIVE plants. Join a community garden!
Get your college campus or city/town certified in the Bee Campus USA/Bee City USA programs from the Xerces Society
Check out your state's official plant nursery, forest society, natural heritage program, anything that you could become a member of, get plants from, or volunteer at.
Volunteer to be part of your town's conservation commission, which makes decisions about land management and funding
Attend classes or volunteer with your land grant university's cooperative extension (including master gardener programs)
Literally any volunteer effort aimed at improving the local environment, whether that's picking up litter, pulling invasive plants, installing a local garden, planting trees in a city park, ANYTHING. make a positive change in your own sphere. learn the local issues affecting your nearby ecosystems. I guarantee some lake or river nearby is polluted
MAKE HABITAT IN YOUR COMMUNITY. Biggest thing you can do. Use plants native to your area in your yard or garden. Ditch your lawn. Don't use pesticides (including mosquito spraying, tick spraying, Roundup, etc). Don't use fertilizers that will run off into drinking water. Leave the leaves in your yard. Get your school/college to plant native gardens. Plant native trees (most trees planted in yards are not native). Remove invasive plants in your yard.
On this last point, HERE ARE EASY ONLINE RESOURCES TO FIND NATIVE PLANTS and LEARN ABOUT NATIVE GARDENING:
Xerces Society Pollinator Conservation Resource Center
Pollinator Pathway
Audubon Native Plant Finder
Homegrown National Park (and Doug Tallamy's other books)
National Wildlife Federation Native Plant Finder (clunky but somewhat helpful)
Heather Holm (for prairie/midwest/northeast)
MonarchGard w/ Benjamin Vogt (for prairie/midwest)
Native Plant Trust (northeast & mid-atlantic)
Grow Native Massachusetts (northeast)
Habitat Gardening in Central New York (northeast)
There are many more - I'm not familiar with resources for western states. Print books are your biggest friend. Happy to provide a list of those.
Lastly, you can help scientists monitor species using citizen science. Contribute to iNaturalist, eBird, Bumblebee Watch, or any number of more geographically or taxonomically targeted programs (for instance, our state has a butterfly census carried out by citizen volunteers).
In short? Get curious, get educated, get involved. Notice your local nature, find out how it's threatened, and find out who's working to protect it that you can help with. The health of the planet, including our resilience to climate change, is determined by small local efforts to maintain and restore habitat. That is how we survive this. When government funding won't come, when we're beat back at every turn trying to get policy changed, it comes down to each individual person creating a safe refuge for nature.
Thanks for reading this far. Please feel free to add your own credible resources and organizations.

Unlock the Best Deals: How to Get Steam Games at a Fraction of the Price! Steam is one of the largest digital distribution platforms for video games, offering a massive library of titles for every genre. However, the cost of games can quickly add up, especially when buying AAA titles. Fortunately, there are many ways to get Steam games at a cheaper price without resorting to illegal downloads or pirated content. In this guide, we’ll walk you through some of the best strategies to save money on Steam games. 1. Take Advantage of Steam Sales One of the most well-known ways to save money on Steam is by waiting for Steam sales. Steam runs several major sales throughout the year, offering massive discounts on hundreds of games. These include: Steam Summer Sale (usually in June-July) Steam Winter Sale (usually in December) Steam Autumn Sale (usually in November) Steam Spring Sale (usually in March) During these sales, you can expect discounts ranging from 20% to as high as 90%, depending on the game. For big titles, this can be a great time to grab games at a much lower price. 2. Use Steam’s Wishlist Feature Steam allows users to create a wishlist of games they’re interested in. By adding games to your wishlist, you can receive notifications when those games go on sale. This ensures that you never miss out on a deal for the games you want most. How to use Wishlist: Browse the Steam store and add games you’re interested in to your wishlist. Set up email or Steam notifications to get alerted about discounts or sales on those games. 3. Buy Games During Regional Sales Steam pricing varies by region, which means that some regions can have much lower prices for the same games. If you live in a region with higher game prices, consider using a VPN (virtual private network) to access Steam’s regional stores with cheaper prices. Be aware that Steam has specific terms of service regarding region switching, so be cautious and understand the rules. 4. Check Out Humble Bundles The Humble Bundle is a service that offers game bundles at deeply discounted prices, often giving you a chance to pay what you want for a bundle of games. Many bundles include top-tier Steam games, and the best part is that a portion of your payment goes to charity. You can find bundles for specific game genres, such as RPGs, strategy games, and more. Why Humble Bundles are great: Pay what you want for bundles. Includes Steam keys for easy activation. Supports charities while saving money. 5. Check Out Green Man Gaming and Other Authorized Resellers Authorized resellers like Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, and CDKeys often offer discounts on Steam keys. While these discounts might not always match Steam’s sales, they can still save you a significant amount of money on popular titles. Always make sure the reseller is authorized by Steam to avoid any issues with invalid game keys. 6. Use Steam’s Daily and Weekly Deals In addition to seasonal sales, Steam offers daily and weekly deals that feature discounts on specific games. These deals can range anywhere from 10% to 80% off the regular price. Make sure to check Steam’s homepage or the “Specials” section to see which games are on sale for the week. 7. Look for Steam Game Coupons Steam sometimes offers game-specific coupons, which give you a discount on specific games, bundles, or other purchases. These coupons may be earned by completing achievements in certain games or as part of special promotions. Additionally, you can sometimes find these coupons through external sites or Steam community groups. 8. Wait for Price Drops and Follow Developers If you’re not in a rush to play a game, waiting for price drops can help you score a great deal. Keep an eye on the Steam store for price changes, especially for games that have been out for a while. Some games also have regular price reductions after a few months or during promotional events.
Additionally, following game developers and publishers on Steam or social media platforms can give you a heads-up on upcoming sales or promotional discounts for their games. 9. Buy in Bulk with Family Sharing Steam allows you to share your game library with up to five other people through Family Sharing. This way, you can buy games together with friends or family members and share the cost of the games. While only one person can play a game at a time, this method helps reduce the cost per person, especially if you’re all interested in the same games. 10. Use Steam’s Refund Policy to Your Advantage Steam offers a refund policy that allows you to return a game within 14 days of purchase, as long as you’ve played it for less than two hours. If you purchase a game on sale and later decide it’s not for you, you can return it for a full refund. This policy gives you the opportunity to try games without the risk of wasting money. 11. Track Prices with Price Tracking Websites There are several websites and browser extensions that track Steam game prices and let you know when a game has dropped in price. Websites like IsThereAnyDeal and CheapShark help you find the lowest price for Steam games by comparing prices across various retailers. 12. Join Steam’s Community and Events Steam frequently runs events such as Steam Points Shop, where you can earn points for participating in certain activities like voting for awards or joining the Steam community. You can then use these points to unlock discounts or even free games in the Steam Points Shop. Conclusion Getting Steam games cheaper is all about knowing where to look and being strategic with your purchases. Whether it’s waiting for a seasonal sale, using third-party deals, or leveraging Steam’s sales features, there are many ways to save money on your favorite games. Keep an eye on your wishlist, use price tracking tools, and take advantage of promotions to get the best deals. With these tips, you’ll be able to expand your library without breaking the bank!

10 Ways Leaflet Delivery Can Boost Local Business Sales
For small business owners, every sale counts. In a time where digital ads fight for short attention spans, printed materials like leaflets can still drive serious results—when done right. Leaflet delivery has stood the test of time because it connects directly with households, with no ad blockers, no scroll, and no competition for attention.
Here are ten proven ways leaflet delivery can boost local business sales.
1. Targets the Right People in the Right Place
Leaflet campaigns give you full control over where your message lands. You can focus on specific postcodes, streets, or housing types that match your customer profile. Unlike online ads, which rely on algorithms and guesswork, leaflet delivery physically reaches the audience you choose.
For example, a plumbing service can target older neighborhoods where pipes are likely to need repairs. A bakery can distribute within walking distance of the shop. It's accurate, local, and cost-effective.
2. Builds Local Recognition
Repetition builds familiarity—and familiarity builds trust. When residents regularly see your leaflet on their doormat, your name starts to stick. This brand visibility creates a sense of presence in the area, even for new businesses.
Customers are more likely to buy from companies they recognize. Leaflets help make sure your business becomes part of the neighborhood conversation.
3. Drives Immediate Action with Time-Sensitive Offers
Well-designed leaflets can encourage fast responses. Discounts, limited-time deals, or flash sales create urgency. Offers like “10% off this weekend only” or “Call within 3 days for a free quote” push readers to act instead of postponing.
Including clear expiration dates on offers boosts conversion rates. In local campaigns, timely content often outperforms generic evergreen messages.
4. Creates a Personal Connection
Physical mail feels more personal than a digital ad. Leaflets sit in someone’s home, not on a feed. That matters.
People often view their mail when they’re relaxed—at the kitchen table, during breakfast, or in the evening. That slower pace can help your message stick. When combined with good leaflet design, your flyer can leave a lasting impression.
5. Supports Seasonal and Local Events
Leaflet campaigns work especially well when tied to specific dates or local events. Think Easter promos for cafes, back-to-school sales for shops, or leaflet drops tied to community fairs.
You can sync delivery with school holidays, weather changes, or even payday weekends. Local businesses that align with community rhythms usually see better results.
6. Offers Tangible Proof of Value
Unlike digital ads that vanish after a scroll, a leaflet stays visible on a table, counter, or fridge. Customers often keep leaflets for days or weeks, especially if they include coupons or offers.
This extended exposure means your business stays in sight during the decision-making phase. A quality leaflet can continue driving sales long after it’s delivered.
7. Amplifies Word-of-Mouth Referrals
Leaflets often get passed around. If someone finds value in your offer, they may share it with friends or neighbors. One home can lead to multiple conversions. This informal sharing spreads trust, especially in tight-knit communities.
For example, a leaflet advertising a mobile car wash could get passed along to a friend down the street. That one delivery turns into two jobs, doubling your return.
8. Works with Your Online Marketing
Leaflets and digital campaigns don’t have to compete—they can support each other. Include your website, social media handles, or even a QR code on your leaflet to send people online. You could also run matching Google ads in the same postal areas.
This multi-channel approach boosts trust. When customers see your brand in multiple places—mailbox, phone screen, and around town—they’re more likely to buy.
9. Gives You Measurable Results
You can track the impact of leaflet campaigns using simple tools. A unique discount code or phone number tells you exactly how many responses came from the leaflet.
Many businesses report response rates between 1% and 5%, depending on the offer and delivery method. For local campaigns, this can translate into a strong return on a modest budget. Using a direct mail solution with built-in tracking can make the process even easier.
10. Stands Out in an Overcrowded Digital World
Online ads are everywhere. People scroll past them without a second thought. Leaflets, on the other hand, don’t disappear in a feed. There’s less competition in the letterbox—and more chance for your message to shine.
With thoughtful leaflet design, your business can cut through the noise and land directly in the hands of real potential customers. Add compelling copy, strong visuals, and a clear offer, and you have a campaign that delivers more than impressions—it brings in real sales.
Final Thought
In a world obsessed with clicks and views, physical marketing still delivers impact where it counts—on the doorstep. Businesses that take leaflet campaigns seriously often find them to be one of their best tools for generating local sales.
Using door to door leaflet distribution strategically can transform slow weeks into busy ones. Start with a clear offer, choose your area wisely, and put care into your design. When all the pieces fit, leaflet delivery becomes more than just advertising—it becomes a driver of steady, local growth.
