Hi! your oc setting is really cool! i hope this isnt a weird question, because i noticed Yul'shara looks much older than Il'rhani and Rhys. do the aging conventions for elves in your story work a bit differently than generically is what i'm asking!

iirc, yeah most generic fantasy elves don't physically age past a certain point and kinda stay looking that way until whenever they die. ik in settings like LOTR, it works like that.

Sulvariyans aren't necessarily immortal per se, but they just have a significantly long ass lifespan. so yes, they can die.

and they do age, but only up a certain point. because of this, the time it takes to actually show any evident aging is very slow, or at least in adulthood.

ig the one interesting thing in my setting is that Sulvariyan children to adulthood actually mature at the same rate as humans would. that means to say, once they would hit around maybe their late 20s-early 30s (this isn't always strictly the case tho) is when that drawn-out aging begins. again, they'll stay looking that way for a pretty long time

so even when Rhys kinda hit their young adult years, Il'rhani looks more or less the same LMFAO. the same with Yul'shara, although with how she looks, it can be deduced that she's a lot older than Il'rhani so far

People who dislike evolutionary psychology don't usually understand what it's all about. Maybe educate yourself a bit before talking bs

Although it feels like you might be being confrontational, I'm open to discussion.

I didn't say all evolutionary psychology; the "field" is big, and it is entirely possible that our disagreement is semantic.

I take issue with the kind of pop psychology trash from Steven Pinker and the like. Their flavor of evolutionary psych has been some of the most marketed, which is also why I stylized it as 'Evolutionary Psychology™' (if it doesn't come through, it is supposed to be a trademark emoji).

I hope that clarifies things. If you are actually defending Pinker, Buss, Cosmides and Tooby, Daly and Wilson, etc., then please try to back up your view.

besides the Sulvariyan and Aethirvalean people, i did explore a tiny bit on another race in my original setting. they're essentially kinda like sentient stone/gem people who live beneath the world. though nowadays, they've also come to reside on the surface. i havent decided a name for them yet, other than in earlier iterations i used to call them the "Cosmids"... i might keep it? idk but i gotta figure a proper name for that realm
