OLIVE: Uh-huh… What happened to this isn't about Bella at all and what's with the maudlin urgency when it comes to dispatching such a problem? Did you just now find out that EIM's resident Indy Jones has spent half a decade burying bones in Bella's Cave of Wonders instead of digging them up?

MORTIMER: [He scowls] If you're not interested, High Sage, I apologize for wasting your time --

OLIVE: Don't get your little feelings hurt by a marvelous piece of wit shared in admittedly poor taste -- I didn't say I wasn't interested. Just call me curious when it comes to the fact that it's you petitioning to ensure Emerson meets his grisly end instead of Minerva wanting it done. That I would understand.

MORTIMER: Minerva doesn't know. She couldn't know; if she had any idea that her husband was having an affair for years with one of her childhood best friends this would have been outed much sooner and she'd have left him long before now. Bella was the one keeping all the evidence in her secret study anyhow, I doubt Emerson had any mementos from their trysts for Minerva to find. There were letters, lingerie… pictures -- [Mortimer has to pause, clenching his jaw in rage.]

OLIVE: You did just find out.

MORTIMER: The most egregious offense was that according to their letters, it was happening while the two of them were pretending to supervise playdates for Gemma and Cassie every available Saturday. The son of a bitch needs to take a dirt nap and I need you to deal with the Emerson problem so that I can simultaneously deal with the Bella problem.

OLIVE: [her lips curl into a sinister smirk.] You plan on getting your hands dirty assisting me in this little endeavor? Be very, very careful making such stimulating offers, Morty; the mortal men that ignite my curiosity and stir the flames of my passions end up cremated in them.

MORTIMER: Let's not get too stimulated, High Sage Specter -- I assure you I will be handling my half of this Faustian bargain quite differently.

GRIM: Are we feeling a little more enlightened now, Dr. Charm?

EMERSON'S GHOST: I don't know if I should be relieved that I didn't do something wildly stupid on a dig that would tarnish my professional legacy forever, or if I'm so enraged that even if it takes me until Mortimer Goth is on his deathbed, I'm going to find a way to drag this weasely, dickless little fuck to the Netherworld with me.

[Olive drops Layne's unconscious body unceremoniously to the floor and begins to drag him back to his cell after capping and pocketing the syringe.]

OLIVE: I'm in a mood, so my graciousness and the chances of you making it back up those stairs depend entirely on what you're willing to keep mum about. Are we playing ball?

MORTIMER: By your rules as always, yes. We're playing ball, Your Grace.

OLIVE: [grins] That's what I like to hear! Come in, come in -- just don't get too close to the first cell on your right. Most of the menagerie is still in hibernation, but darling Ichabod's been unearthed for a few hours to celebrate his birthday. I'm afraid the potent odor of my latest husband's adrenaline-fueled hysterics and a cadaver being freshly dissected has made him a bit restless.

ICHABOD: [Guttural, feral snarling while attempting to reach through the bars.]

MORTIMER: [clears his throat awkwardly.] … Well. Many happy returns of the day, sir.

OLIVE: How polite -- did you hear that Ichabod? Mr. Goth wishes you a happy birthday. [Gesturing for Mortimer to sit down on the bench just inside the door, Olive joins him after peeling off her gloves and disposing of them.] You should know your best customer by now, Morty the Mortician -- I don't do wives on general principle, it's sort of contrary to the spirit of my entire body of extracurricular work. If that's what you're here for, you've come a long way for a stunning view, but not much in the way of results.

MORTIMER: No-- No this isn't about Bella, not at all. I thought my proposition would be a little more in line with your familiar fare which is why I sought you out to begin with…

OLIVE: Really now? Color me intrigued.

MORTIMER: I know I'm one of the few -- if not the only one -- that knows for certain it's no rumor: you having a thing for keeping the worst of your gifts reserved for your own husbands, but… Perhaps if you were very handsomely compensated you wouldn't mind taking care of someone else's husband this time.

OLIVE: We'll talk compensation after you spit it out and stop taking me the long way around. I'm not naming prices yet without details--

MORTIMER: [Interrupting] -- Dr. Emerson Charm. Professor of Archaeology Arcana; you know him, he works here. He's in Selvadorada right now on his annual field expedition and it would be very fortuitous if the shameless bastard that's been making a fool of me by fucking my wife for the last five years didn't make it out of the jungle. I want the foulest, most fatal curse you know -- Nothing is off the table. No amount is unreasonable.

EMERSON'S GHOST: Is Mort here to pick up the dead guy?

GRIM: What part of watch and find out continues to elude you?

[Mortimer approaches the door at the end of the hall as the sound of static popping signals that the 'Heartaches' record is about to begin again.]

MORTIMER: Another initiate into your ever-growing army of the damned, huh? I uh, I hope you'll be gracious in pardoning my interruption, High Sage Specter. It's to talk business, but I can come back later when you're not … otherwise occupied.

LAYNE: HELP ME! FUCKING DO SOMETHING AND GET ME OUT OF HERE! GET THE OTHER SAGES! THIS PSYCHOTIC BITCH IS TORTURING ME--

OLIVE: Excuse me for just a second -- [She mutters mostly to herself, absentmindedly.]

OLIVE: Come here, wretch--

LAYNE: DON'T LET HER DO THIS! DON'T LET HER DO THIS!

OLIVE: Let her? [she whispers into Layne's ear as she jams the needle violently into the side of his neck.] There's enough in this shot for ten men and unless he wants to take your place he'll pretend he never saw you. Do you understand the predicament you're in now? No one's coming.
