Oh there's that bastard, the trigeminal nerve. Sounds great in theory until your jaw gets numb and tingly randomly because your eyes are fucking misaligned
The nerves connected to the human jaw
#body horror#anatomy#no seriously that thing goes to like your forehead your eye and your jaw#this is also why a migraine can make your teeth hurt#as to the eye misalignment#a vertical misalignment is a lot easier to miss#and your eyes keep making micro adjustments all the time which irritates that nerve#they make lenses to correct it#they sound scammy cause they're proprietary and ridiculously expensive#but the amount of wierd nerve shit I've had has dropped easily 90% since i got them#and they've helped my eyestrain too

I have so many questions about Butterscotch. How is Butterscotch? How OLD is Butterscotch? Does he.... does he know I love him...?
Butterscotch is quite well. He's probably the healthiest persian on site (which... is saying something, considering he's blind and has a misaligned jaw).
He's fairly young. He's somewhere around 3-5 years old. He's not a super playful cat, but he enjoys batting around a bit of garbage every now and then. He doesn't seem to understand cat toys, but he understands a ball of paper when it's tossed at him.
Yes. He assumes everyone loves him and he's always been correct.

Ruth Fleming wears headgear so I briefly researched ✨️Orthodontic Headgear✨️:
Used (in combination with braces) to correct jaw misalignment & dental crowding - helps avoid corrective jaw surgery later on
Basically comprised of a metal frame that's in some way attached to the teeth (metal/elastic to braces) and strapped to the head
There are a few different types of headgear:
cervical pull (for overbite/overjet)
reverse-pull (underbite/crossbite)
high-pull (open bite)
Ruth's looks like the reverse-pull type without a chin cup... I didn't find any images of real faceframes that exactly matched Ruth's tho
Must be worn for at least 12 hours daily - the more you wear it, the more effective, & skipping a day undoes progress
Can't be worn while eating - Ruth may remove her headgear to eat, not eat at school, or drink her lunch through a straw
Can't be worn during any activity that could involve impact to the face - Ruth may be exempt from gym lessons
Wearing overnight is encouraged
Maintenance
Headgear adjustments call for pain medication & soft foods
Hard parts are washed daily, soft pads/straps washed every few days - must dry before wearing again
Correction can take 1-2 years, sometimes longer
Usually people start wearing headgear as preteens, so Ruth either started later or has been wearing it for longer than usual
Adults usually wear headgear for minor misalignment correction or after an accident that affected the teeth/jaw (eg lost some teeth & is prepping for dental implants/dentures)
It's not impossible that Ruth needs headgear because Max wrecked her jaw/teeth
And/or Max may have extended Ruth's time in headgear by hitting her in the face while she was wearing it

if anyone on here has an underbite or overbite or any misalignment that is causing them tension or pain, even if slight, this is your sign to seek corrective treatment bc it affects more than you know. the jaw is connected so many nerves in the face so don’t cause yourself unnecessary pain ok? 👍 bc it can worsen with time. i know a lot of people can’t afford dental care but please do research bc there are free and low cost options. this is coming from someone with an extremely fucked overbite, i am frequently in pain throughout the jaw, teeth, ear, eyes, and sinus. i don’t want anyone to have to deal with that. thank you
#the ear pain can honestly be worse than the jaw pain itself sometimes. it’s like someone’s stabbing an ice pick into it#not fun

Thank you for answering my ramble, I would like to continue to borrow your ears, if that's alright
That was a good point re: school languages... Maybe a better analogy would be languages that aren't common in an area? Like my school had German and French as options, even though there wasn't any notable amount of population in either. An elective, of sorts.
As for the vocal cords, perhaps they're structured differently, or it could be a whole different organ, to produce sounds. I'm leaving a bit of wiggle room personally, since it's v fantasy anyways from what we know of their physiology. Organs likely have to change somewhat anyways, with the land potion - where digestion leads, how blood vessels work, etc. So mer language couldn't be spoken on land (or spoken with some difficulty), and human languages could only be mimicked in sea.
Something new to think about for you, though - what's your opinion on the double jaw hc for the eels? I personally like it - it gives them more similarity to their animal inspiration, and the thought of the jaws being used to freak people out is quite amusing~
[Referencing this post!]
chisxvjsns They used to offer German and French as electives at my school but 😩 they got dropped because not enough people were taking it… so I see something similar going on with a (theoretical) course for merpeople to learn the common language of humans? Like, it’s an elective but some schools may not offer it at all due to lack of general interest in going to the world above long term.
Yes, I would imagine that the transformation (?) potions are would have to do a lot of complex procedures in terms of rearranging the organs and other body parts. When you think about it like that, it’s really amazing that magic can do things usually only surgeries can.
I think the vocal cords of a merperson would probably have to be at least a different shape to accommodate for the water rushing through them?? Though the shape would also have to be able to adapt to air, since I assume merpeople can surface and still speak just fine without the water.
I think the twins having a second jaw headcanon is fun, but putting aside suspension of disbelief, I don’t think it’s… practical?? If we think about the anatomy of a human versus a moray eel, they’re quite different. A human has a comparatively small mouth and respiratory opening compared to eels, so would a second jaw even be able to realistically fit in a human without inhibiting their other functions?? Or at least displacing some of the other organs??? Wouldn’t that at least result in misaligned teeth or an overbite??
I can see maybe their merforms being adapted to accommodate the second jaw (even then, it’s debatable how much their merforms relate to the A&P of their sea creature species; ie octopuses have large heads to hold their organs and beaks instead of teeth for chewing food, yet merform Azul has neither of these traits). However, I don’t see a reason why the transformation potion wouldn’t “correct” it for their human forms? The extra jaw wouldn’t have a purpose for a human (while a moral eel has the pharyngeal jaws to help them prevent prey from escaping). That’d be like saying their human forms still have gills when gills aren’t necessary for functioning on land.
In the world of anatomy and physiology, we generally adhere to the rule of form follows function”. So… if there isn’t a need for a certain function, it usually gets eliminated over the course of evolution. In this case (since magic makes change almost instantaneous), I feel like non-necessary functions (and thus the forms associated with them) are largely eliminated in the transition from merform to human.
… Okay, the boring buzzkill stuff is done 🤡 djsvjwbekeemvzksb My opinion of the headcanon?? Like I said before, I think it’s super fun!! I love seeing fan art of it and how uncanny and grotesque it often looks. The twins would absolutely abuse it to freak out their classmates (much to Azul’s chagrin).
“Whatever happened to maintaining a sense of decorum?!” he’d moan, holding his head in his hands.

An assessment of one Warrior of Light, upon first actual meeting, from the esteemed Emet-Selch.
(A fun short thing that may end up needing to be changed after EnW. Hm. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Ao3
You cannot deny that you are curious. What you shall deny, wholeheartedly, is to what extent that runs and directions you may go with it. Oh, yes, you are curious about this vaunted Hero of the Source that has so antagonized your colleagues – in so much as one could be curious about such a simple creature, a mortal man.
You are curious because of the potential directions your plans could go, of course, now that the quickest and easiest road has been denied. There are many paths forward, all hinging on how this Warrior responds to the remaining Lightwardens. Would he handle one, two, three more before it was too much? If he could hold onto all five and not crack, what might you be able to do to tip the scales in your favor? It promises to be interesting, if nothing else.
You'd love to convince yourself that that's all this is, but – you don't really need to go introduce yourself, do you? You could've taken his measure a myriad other ways, continued to watch very closely without his knowing, but that isn't what you're doing right now. No, you've instead decided to put yourself in his presence, in plain sight.
Ah, well… mostly in his presence. You can see from your illusion’s perspective and he can see you, so it is really mostly the same as actually standing there in front of him, yes?
Of course, he regards you so suspiciously even before you give your name… how very unfriendly this supposedly kind Warrior is – you could call him something else, other than Warrior, but you don't truly need to acknowledge that you know his name. Warrior, among other things, would suffice.
There are others there with him, though you care rather less about them. That Elezen was clever, but perhaps to the point of stealing your limelight. And the Hyur – you'd rather he let the Warrior respond to you, thank you very much. It is still a good initial conversation, to watch and see what they could possibly make of your offer of cooperation.
You are not fooling yourself very well, try as you might. You know why you've chosen to speak with him as… almost yourself, why you've chosen to set yourself on the path of intentionally spending more time with him. It's because of… them. You want to see whether this Warrior is actually –
Really, it is just a quirk of coincidence, of you becoming slightly delusional after all these years. The hair, yes, something about the face, yes, the gentle affection and fierce protectiveness he regards his companions with (not you of course)... But everything else is all wrong. The Warrior may somehow feel like Azem, but he is not them. The hair is not truly correct, a similar pink but a different fade. The green eyes are not a perfect match, you just know. And, of course, they'd not had those ridiculous ears or tail either.
Those physical misalignments are not really the most important parts, though, if you can admit that. It's their spirit and sense of self. You see it when he laughs with those white haired twins. You see it when he returns the grateful smiles of those around the Crystarium he helps with the most mundane tasks. You see it in the way he seems absolutely bloody incapable of turning away if someone is in danger. You see it in the determined set of his jaw as he makes choices that may well spell the end of their life, facing it with a stubborn determination that bordered on self-sacrificial –
Damn it all.
You'd hoped talking to him would make any of it more sensible. It only makes it worse. You stride towards him, still a ways off, and after a few steps he flinches back so obviously that it nearly throws off your entire monologue. The angry set of his jaw doesn't match the exhausted fear in his eyes, and you are forced to acknowledge the things you'd been ignoring in your desperation.
As much as many of the traits you'd noticed were so very Azem, some key things were just… missing. They'd always been so happy, so good at keeping up a carefree energy, so freely giving with their physical affection – you'd call it a nuisance, if you could possibly pretend you disliked it.
This Warrior is rather the opposite of those things.
He is afraid, you can see it. He hates to be touched, even by those he is closest with, he is so clearly haunted by wounds both fresh and very old. The Warrior emits a bone-deep exhaustion and a soul-deep despair. He won't look people in the eye very often, he flinches if any of the taller Scions draw near, his gaze grows distant when he thinks no one is looking, and you, quite frankly, do not know how you are meant to react to that.
A part of you wants to be angry for what's so clearly been done to him – but that anger comes from imagining him as someone he is not. If someone had ever laid a hand on Azem… but they would surely never have allowed such a thing to happen in the first place, not as powerful as they were. No, the remainder of you simply feels anger at him for being such a poor mockery of your memories, just close enough to be cruel.
You try to dismiss these thoughts. This Sundered world is fundamentally broken, it should be of no surprise for any shadow of your Azem to be so broken as well.
(But then why does it still hurt to see?)
#snow-system#ffxiv-oc#ffxiv-reactions#s'ria 🌸❄️#writings#ah the fun and arrogance of it all#as if S'ria is personally doing this to him

Unmasking Degloved Faces
Facial trauma is a term that refers to any physical injury to the face, particularly the structures of the head and neck region. This type of trauma can result in severe facial disfigurement, including degloving injuries. Understanding the causes, management, and rehabilitation of degloved faces is crucial in providing appropriate care and support for affected individuals.
Facial trauma can occur due to various reasons, including:
Motor vehicle accidents
Workplace accidents
Sports injuries
Physical assaults
Accidental falls
These incidents can lead to the separation of the skin, soft tissues, and underlying structures from the facial bones. This degloving injury is often associated with significant damage to blood vessels, nerves, and facial function. The severity of the trauma can range from minor lacerations to extensive facial fractures.
Facial reconstruction surgeries
Facial reconstruction surgeries play a vital role in the management of degloved faces. The primary goals of these surgical procedures are to restore facial form and function, improve aesthetics, and enhance the patient's quality of life. The specific surgical techniques employed depend on the extent and nature of the facial trauma.
Some common facial reconstruction surgeries include:
Skin grafting: In cases where there is a loss of skin due to degloving, a skin graft may be performed. This involves taking healthy skin from another part of the body (donor site) and transplanting it onto the affected area.
Soft tissue reconstruction: Degloved faces often require reconstruction of soft tissues, including muscles, tendons, and blood vessels. Techniques such as tissue flaps, microvascular surgery, and facial reanimation procedures may be utilized.
Orthognathic surgery: Severe facial trauma can result in misalignment of the jaws. Orthognathic surgery aims to correct these skeletal deformities, improving function and facial aesthetics.
Maxillofacial implants: In cases where there is significant bone loss, maxillofacial implants may be used to restore facial symmetry and provide support for other facial structures.
Reconstructive rhinoplasty: Injury to the nose can cause functional and aesthetic problems. Reconstructive rhinoplasty can address these issues, improving breathing and restoring the natural appearance of the nose.
It is important to note that facial reconstruction surgeries are highly complex and require the expertise of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Surgeons, plastic surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and other specialists collaborate closely to develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.
Post-surgical rehabilitation
Rehabilitation plays a critical role in the overall management of degloved faces. It is aimed at maximizing functional recovery, promoting psychological well-being, and facilitating the reintegration of patients into their daily lives.
The rehabilitation process may involve:
Physical therapy: Physical therapists work with patients to restore muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion. They utilize exercises, manual therapy techniques, and other modalities to optimize functional outcomes.
Speech and swallowing therapy: Facial trauma can affect speech and swallowing functions. Speech-language pathologists assess and treat communication and swallowing disorders, developing strategies to improve these functions.
Psychological support: Dealing with facial trauma and its consequences can have a significant psychological impact on patients. Mental health professionals provide counseling and support to help individuals cope with emotional challenges, promote self-esteem, and enhance body image.
Prosthetic rehabilitation: In cases where facial reconstruction is not feasible or desired, prosthetic rehabilitation may be considered. Specially designed facial prostheses can help restore appearance and function.
Throughout the rehabilitation process, close collaboration between healthcare professionals, patients, and their families is crucial. The treatment plan should be individualized, taking into account the specific needs and goals of each patient.
In conclusion, understanding the causes, management, and rehabilitation of degloved faces is essential in providing comprehensive care for individuals with facial trauma. Facilitating the recovery of form and function through facial reconstruction surgeries and post-surgical rehabilitation can significantly improve the quality of life for affected individuals. It is imperative for healthcare professionals to stay updated on the latest advancements in this field and adopt a multidisciplinary approach to deliver optimal care

Complications of Untreated Wisdom Teeth: Risks and Potential Consequences
Introduction
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last set of teeth to emerge in the mouth. They typically appear between the ages of 17 and 25, and for many individuals, they can cause various complications if left untreated. In this comprehensive article, we will explore the risks and potential consequences of untreated wisdom teeth. From infections to misalignment, understanding these complications is crucial for maintaining optimal oral health.
Why Should You Be Concerned?
Ignoring the complications associated with untreated wisdom teeth can lead to long-term problems that may require extensive dental interventions. It's important to address these issues promptly to prevent further discomfort and potential complications.
Complications of Untreated Wisdom Teeth: Risks and Potential Consequences
Impacted Wisdom TeethImpaction occurs when there is not enough space in the mouth for the wisdom teeth to fully emerge or align properly with the rest of the teeth. As a result, these teeth remain partially or fully trapped beneath the gum line. Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to a range of issues, including:
Pain and discomfort in the back of the mouth
Swelling and inflammation of the gums
Difficulty in opening the mouth fully
Bad breath and an unpleasant taste due to bacterial growth
Formation of cysts or tumors in severe casesIt is crucial to consult a dentist if you suspect your wisdom teeth are impacted. They will assess the situation and recommend the appropriate treatment, which may involve extraction.
Dental Crowding and MisalignmentThe late arrival of wisdom teeth can disrupt the alignment of existing teeth. When there is insufficient space for these additional molars, they may push against adjacent teeth, causing crowding and misalignment. This can lead to:
Crooked or overlapping teeth
Changes in bite alignment
Increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease due to difficulty in cleaning crowded areasOrthodontic treatment may be necessary to correct the misalignment caused by wisdom teeth. In some cases, the extraction of the affected teeth might be the most effective solution.
Tooth Decay and Gum DiseaseWisdom teeth are particularly susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease. Their location at the back of the mouth makes them harder to reach and clean thoroughly. As a result, food particles and bacteria can accumulate, leading to:
Cavities and decay in the wisdom teeth
Inflammation and infection of the surrounding gums (pericoronitis)
Receding gums and potential damage to nearby teethRegular dental check-ups and proper oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing, are essential for minimizing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
Infections and AbscessesWhen wisdom teeth do not emerge fully or become impacted, they can create pockets of space where bacteria can thrive. This can lead to infections and abscesses, which are painful and require immediate attention. Signs of infection include:
Severe pain in the affected area
Swelling of the face and jaw
Difficulty swallowing or opening the mouth
Foul taste or odor in the mouthDentists may prescribe antibiotics to control the infection temporarily, but extraction of the affected teeth is often necessary to prevent recurrent infections.
Sinus ProblemsThe upper wisdom teeth are located close to the sinuses. When these teeth become infected or develop complications, it can result in sinus problems such as:
Sinus pain and pressure
Chronic sinusitis
Recurrent sinus infectionsAddressing the underlying issues with the wisdom teeth can help alleviate sinus problems and restore sinus health.
Damage to Adjacent Teeth and JawboneIn some cases, untreated wisdom teeth can cause damage to nearby teeth and even the jawbone. The pressure exerted by impacted wisdom teeth can lead to:
Resorption of the roots of adjacent teeth
Formation of cysts or tumors that may erode the jawbone
Increased risk of fractures or damage to the jawTimely extraction of problematic wisdom teeth can prevent further damage and preserve the overall health of your mouth.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What are the signs of impacted wisdom teeth?
Signs of impacted wisdom teeth may include pain, swelling, difficulty opening the mouth fully, and unpleasant taste or odor due to bacterial growth. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is advisable to consult a dentist.
2. Can wisdom teeth cause crowding of other teeth?
Yes, wisdom teeth can cause dental crowding and misalignment. When there is not enough space for these additional molars, they may push against existing teeth, leading to crowding and potential misalignment.
3. How can I prevent tooth decay and gum disease in wisdom teeth?
Proper oral hygiene is essential for preventing tooth decay and gum disease in wisdom teeth. Brushing twice a day, flossing regularly, and visiting your dentist for check-ups can help maintain good oral health.
4. What happens if an infected wisdom tooth is not treated?
If an infected wisdom tooth is left untreated, the infection can spread, leading to more severe complications such as abscesses, damage to adjacent teeth, and even jawbone infections. It is crucial to seek dental care promptly.
5. Can wisdom teeth cause sinus problems?
Yes, the upper wisdom teeth are located close to the sinuses. When these teeth become infected or develop complications, they can contribute to sinus problems such as pain, pressure, and chronic sinusitis.
6. How do dentists treat complications of wisdom teeth?
The treatment for complications of wisdom teeth depends on the specific issue. Extraction is often necessary for impacted or infected wisdom teeth. Orthodontic treatment may be required for dental crowding and misalignment. Dentists will assess the situation and recommend the most suitable treatment option.
Conclusion
Understanding the potential complications of untreated wisdom teeth is vital for maintaining good oral health. From impacted teeth to dental crowding and infections, addressing these issues promptly can help prevent long-term consequences. If you experience any symptoms or suspect complications with your wisdom teeth, consult a dental professional to determine the most appropriate course of action. Teeth Straightening and Confidence Boost: Unlocking Your True Potential
Teeth straightening is not just about achieving a beautiful smile; it can also have a profound impact on your confidence and overall well-being. At Schoettger Orthodontic, we understand the transformative power of a straight smile and its ability to unlock your true potential. This post will explore how teeth straightening can boost your confidence and help you embrace the best version of yourself.
Improved smile aesthetics
One of the primary benefits of teeth straightening is the enhancement of your smile aesthetics. Straightening crooked or misaligned teeth can create a harmonious and balanced smile, giving you a newfound sense of confidence. With a beautiful smile, you'll feel more comfortable expressing yourself and engaging in social interactions.
Enhanced self-esteem
Teeth straightening can significantly improve self-esteem. When you feel proud of your smile, it positively affects how you perceive yourself and how others perceive you. Straight teeth can boost your self-image, leading to increased self-assurance and a greater willingness to pursue personal and professional goals.
Greater oral health
Beyond cosmetic benefits, teeth straightening plays a crucial role in improving oral health. Straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and cavities. By investing in teeth straightening, you are investing in the long-term health and well-being of your teeth and gums.
Enhanced speech and chewing ability
Orthodontic treatment can correct issues with the alignment of your bite, improving speech and chewing ability. Misaligned teeth or jaw discrepancies can affect speech clarity and make it challenging to bite and chew properly. Straightening your teeth can alleviate these concerns, allowing for better communication and an improved ability to enjoy a wide variety of foods.
Teeth straightening offers more than just a beautiful smile; it unlocks your true potential by boosting confidence and improving overall well-being. With improved smile aesthetics, enhanced self-esteem, better oral health, improved speech and chewing ability, and a personal transformation, teeth straightening can truly empower you to embrace the best version of yourself. The professional Schoettger Orthodontics teeth straighteningexperts are committed to helping you achieve your smile goals and unlock your true potential. Smile Makeover: A Comprehensive Guide to the Types of Orthodontic Treatments
Correcting crooked or misaligned teeth through orthodontic therapy enhances both the function and appearance of the mouth. For patients of all ages, from children to adults, orthodontic treatment can be advantageous. A patient's needs and the severity of their tooth problem will determine which sort of orthodontic treatment they receive. There are various orthodontic procedures available. A few of the most typical forms of orthodontic care are listed below:
Traditional Metal Braces
The most popular orthodontic procedure is metal braces. They are constructed of teeth-attached metal brackets and wires that are modified over time to gently move teeth into the desired position. Even the most serious dental issues can be successfully treated by them.
Ceramic Braces
While ceramic braces function similarly to metal braces, its ceramic brackets are either transparent or tooth-colored. They are therefore less obvious than metal braces. Patients who are worried about how metal braces would look might consider ceramic braces.
Lingual Braces
Traditional metal braces are comparable to lingual braces, however lingual braces are positioned on the back of the teeth rather than the front. This practically imperceptible quality can make them more challenging to clean and maintain.
Invisalign
Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses clear plastic aligners to shift teeth into the desired position. The aligners are custom-made for each patient and are worn for a period of time before being replaced with the next set of aligners. Invisalign is a good option for patients who want a more discreet treatment option.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces are a type of orthodontic treatment that uses brackets and wires to gradually straighten misaligned teeth. However, unlike traditional braces, self-ligating braces use a unique clip mechanism to hold the wire in place, eliminating the need for elastic bands.
There are two types of self-ligating braces: passive and active. Passive self-ligating braces use a low friction system that allows the wire to move freely through the bracket. Active self-ligating braces, on the other hand, use a sliding mechanism that applies gentle pressure to the teeth.
Headgear
Headgear orthodontic treatment is a type of orthodontic treatment that is used to correct a range of dental issues. It is typically used in children and adolescents and involves the use of a special device that attaches to the braces and applies pressure to the teeth and jaw.
The headgear device consists of a wire framework that fits around the head and attaches to the braces using rubber bands or hooks. The pressure exerted by the headgear helps to correct the position of the teeth and jaw, and can be used to treat a variety of dental issues, including overbite, underbite, and crossbite.
Headgear is typically worn for a specified period each day, often during sleep or for a few hours after school. The length of time the headgear is worn each day depends on the individual patient's needs, and can vary from a few hours to up to 12 hours per day.
Palatal expanders
In order to open up the top jaw and provide more space for teeth, palatal expanders are a type of orthodontic device. When a kid or adolescent's upper jaw is too small to accommodate all of their teeth, it can cause crowding and other dental problems due to overcrowding.
Palatal expanders work by applying gentle pressure to the upper jaw, gradually widening it over a period of weeks or months. The appliance consists of a small metal framework that fits over the roof of the mouth, with screws that can be adjusted by the orthodontist to control the amount and direction of the pressure.
Depending on the requirements of each patient, palatal expanders are often worn for a number of months. Patients could feel some slight pressure or discomfort at this time as the appliance gradually opens the upper jaw.
Orthodontic surgery
Orthognathic surgery, commonly referred to as orthodontic surgery, is a type of dental surgery used to address severe tooth and jaw irregularities that cannot be treated with just ordinary orthodontic therapy. This procedure can significantly enhance the function and aesthetics of the teeth and jaw in addition to improving general dental health.
Orthognathic surgery, often known as orthodontic surgery, is a type of dental surgery used to address severe tooth and jaw abnormalities that cannot be treated by conventional orthodontic treatment alone. This procedure has the potential to significantly enhance the function and aesthetics of the teeth and jaw as well as the general state of oral health.
Retainers After braces or other orthodontic treatment, retainers are one form of orthodontic appliance that is used to keep teeth in their proper positions. Following treatment, they are normally worn for a while to keep teeth from sliding back to their previous locations.
Removable and fixed retainers are the two basic categories. Typically constructed of transparent plastic, removable retainers fit over the teeth like a mouthguard. They can be taken off for eating, brushing, and flossing, but to be effective, they must be worn continuously. The patient cannot remove fixed retainers since they are made of a thin wire that is bonded to the teeth's root surfaces. According to the requirements of each patient, retainers are normally worn for a period of time ranging from several months to a year. Patients might feel some slight tightness or discomfort during this time as the teeth adjust to their new locations.
