Note
The "core" term is part of World Systems Theory. China and Russia are considered "semi-peripheral" to describe their integration into and roles in the world economy. It's a useful theory for e.g. modelling more complex exploitative relationships between countries, such as labor flows in e.g. Singapore<Malaysia<Indonesia where each country is taking advantage of relatively cheap immigrant labor from the next one in line.
The "imperial" part is true but usually only added by communists & anarchists.
it seems awkward to base this on trade as in the year 2000 with core status providing "a market for exports" because of course the US runs a persistent trade deficit while "semi-periphery" (!) nations like China and Korea run persistent trade surpluses.
seems easier to just note whether countries are economically strong and have strong institutions, two factors that usually go together anyway.

Event Photographer Singapore: Series on the Professional Activity of Jose Jeuland
Tumblr media
In Singapore, event photography has anchored itself within the business, cultural and social celebrations. It has facilitated the purpose and the message of the events. Who cannot be unmentioned in this area is a Singapore based professional photographer-Jose Jeuland. He has built his career in Singapore focusing on the corporate and other major public events where he sees a gap and fulfills it by providing high quality photography specifically for top level clients.
Preparing for the Event. The Photographing and Reporting of the Event
Event photography goes beyond just taking pictures. It is about weaving a captivating tale. Whether it is a business seminar, a corporate function, a trade fair or an international meeting, an event photographer has to do much more than press a shutter. It is important to note the core idea of the event, the atmosphere, the audience as well as the highlights of the celebration. This requires in addition to technicality, artistry and good vision, great timing – all attributes that Jose Jeuland possesses in his works.
The love for storytelling has played a significant role in Jose Jeuland’s practice of event photography. In his perspective, every event is like a story that takes shape in its own right, at every moment of that event, which needs an extra perception in some cases. Therefore, capturing wedding images or any other event involves capturing the people’s and artist’s spirits and the event itself preventing a short-lived situation.
Why Choose Jose Jeuland for Event Photography in Singapore?
The task of choosing an event photographer in Singapore is one of the most crucial when preparing for such events. Within this category, Jose Jeuland has made a name that focuses on reliability, professionalism, and a keen sense of detail. He realizes that it is very important to take coverage in a way that fulfills the purpose for which the event is done.
In this context, one of the strong reasons to choose Jose Jeuland is that he has handled several major events. His portfolio contains numerous corporate events, international colloquiums, and public events. This experience allows him to cope with multi-dimensional and multi-layered events in a very efficient manner, without missing any major event that should be focused on.
Moreover, Jose Jeuland is characterized by a unique and subtle approach to photography. He thinks that people are more likely to obtain remarkable photographs when simply taking shots during the occasion rather than interrupting the continuity of the event. It also enables him to step back, allowing the occasion to take its own course whilst he captures the real encounters and natural moments in the margin.
The Success And Technical Skills Of Jose Jeuland In Photography
Any hired photographer has a common aspect known as technical knowledge. And Jose Jeuland falls amongst the competent ones. He has the ability to operate more energetic photo shooter tools and the skill of fluently using light, space, and post processes, so that photos will be of the best quality without any defection.
Another important aspect of event photography is the ability to work under different lighting situations. Events may occur in very dark settings or brightly lit ones, such as, very dimmed conference rooms and open fields and street settings. Due to the experience he possesses, Jose Jeuland can orchestrate changes in his camera within split seconds and get sharp pictures all the time.
Post-processing is also perhaps one of the other fields wherein Jose Jeuland shines. Although he does his best to get all the shots right within the camera, he is aware that there are some aspects that call for image editing. His post-processing includes adding more color, light, and sharpening effects to produce images that are beautiful yet faithful no to the captured scene.
Taking Care Of Corporate And Public Events Focus
Whereas a lot of event photographers work on an assortment of activities, Jose Jeuland has determined to focus on corporate and public events. This, in turn, helps him strengthen these skills enabling him to understand what the corporate world anticipates from him.
Corporate photography, which includes activities such as product launches, company anniversaries and seminars, calls for the services of a photographer that is able to capture the spirit of the brand and the conveyer’s intent. In particular, corporate commissions have made Jose Jeuland’s forte of photography being a tool for the client’s brand communication a huge asset.
Public events, conversely, are more involving because they comprise more people and more activities. Be it a cultural festival, a government event, or an outdoor exhibition, there is always a need for a photographer who will blend in the crowd and get the happenings of the day. Jose Jeuland has been attending public events in Singapore, and more than just a good writer, he is also able to capture events in the most interesting photographic forms which speak to the framework of the events.
Client Testimonials and Success Stories Jose Jeuland is an award-winning event photographer in Singapore, and this success is reflected by the reviews he gets from different clients. Most corporate clients commend his professionals’ consistency, time management, and level of images produced. His collection of images is complemented with the feedback from the clients, where they tender compliments for relaxing the picky standards and negativity towards their events.
For one such client, one of the multinational companies based, Jose Jeuland was able to change the perception of how the company’s brand image was presented during a new product launch. For example, Jose Jeuland’s photographs were less about the event and more about the event’s brand and its feelings and inventiveness.
Another client was impressed with Jose Jeuland as he managed complexities of the international conference held in Singapore that featured several sessions with chairpersons, viewers and several keynote speakers. The concern of this client was the way Jose Jeuland was able to photograph key events of the conference such as the inauguration and the closing sessions making it easier for the promoters to write a report.
Why is it Important to Have the Right Photographer.
The choice of the photographer for an event which is perhaps the most important and brings the lasting impression of an event is a very crucial one. In Singapore, an event industry resourceful photographer is in demand such as Jose Jeuland. His ability to provide results with professionalism and technical competence has made him one of the best photographer’s specializing in corporate and public event coverage.
When looking for a photographer to work with, it is not only their technical expertise that has to be factored in, there is a soft skill aspect whereby the professional has to establish what the aim of the event is and whether the images produced are in line with that. Jose Jeuland has this aspect of creativity; he has proof that indeed ART is true and that people have enjoyed it’s beauty.
Conclusion
One can simply conclude that unlike many other genres, event photography in Singapore requires hitherto skills such as artistic approach, technical knowledge, and professionalism. However, there are a few, such as Jose Jeuland, who, having extensive experience working in the domains of corporate and public event photography, has made a name in the industry. Constituents of the images he gives out usually incorporate not just the event’s look but its purpose, as they relate to the business and communication aspects of the client as well.
Anyone who would want to document a corporate or public event in Singapore, Jose Jeuland is difficult to compete with when it comes to the level of professionalism and expertise. His sense of quality and his drive for achievement make him the right person for anyone who does not want anything less when it comes to event photography. No wonder Jose Jeuland’s photography is to capture those critical moments, whether it is a corporate function or a non-corporate public function.

Day 1 - Writer & Artist
@hwsrarepairweek2022
Pairing: OzSing
Word Count: 742
The Singapore Art Museum was in the Downtown Core district; Australia followed Singapore as he led him around, telling him about various works of art.  Australia listened to every word—and tried his best to not get distracted.  Singapore listened to him ramble on about reptiles for minutes on end; the least he could do was return the favor and listen now.
Besides, it was interesting.
Australia had shown Singapore art from his place before; it was exciting to see some of the art from Singapore’s place.
Though Australia had brought a book from his own place to give Singapore—but hadn’t gotten around to giving it to him yet.
He would; it wasn’t like he was nervous or anything.  Singapore had given him literature from Singapore’s place before.  So, even though they hadn’t been dating for that long (and this was Australia’s first time dating anyone), there was no need for him to be nervous.  Clearly.
The official reason for Australia’s visit to Singapore was to review the free trade agreement.  Though really, they were using it as an excuse to go on a date after the reviewing was done.
A landscape painting of a riverfront caught his eye.  As someone who spent a lot of time outdoors, landscape paintings were something Australia had a soft spot for—and a lot of artists from his place created them.  Australia headed towards it.
“Elijah!” Australia called.
Singapore came over.
“What is it, Jett?” he said.  “You shouldn’t go shouting in here like that, you know.  Do it again and I might have to fine you.”
He said the last part with a smile, showing he was joking.
“Nah, you won’t, mate,” Australia said, grinning.  “You love me.”
Singapore didn’t dignify that with an answer, and simply gave him a fond eye roll—but Australia didn’t miss the way his face went slightly pink.
“Can you tell me about this?” Australia asked, gesturing to the painting of the white flowers.
“Of course!” Singapore said cheerfully, giving Australia a smile—the same one he used on tourists, the same one Australia found adorable.  “This is Singapore Waterfront, painted by Georgette Chen in 1958.  She has other pieces in here, if you want to see them.”
“Yeah, of course,” Australia said.  “Lead the way.”
Singapore did—and as they visited Georgette Chen’s other works in the museum, Singapore told Australia about Georgette Chen.
“She taught at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts for twenty-seven years, shortly after moving to my place,” Singapore said.
“Wait, she’s not originally from here?” Australia asked, slightly surprised.
Singapore shook his head.
“No.  She was born in China,” he said.  “She moved here in 1953, and was important in pioneering modern art here.”
And with that, Singapore fell quiet, but continued to show Australia around the museum.  The day ended far too quickly for Australia’s liking.
_______________________________________________________________________
When they returned to Singapore’s apartment, the sun was setting.  Australia had yet to give Singapore the book.  Given that he had to go back home tomorrow, it was now or never.
“Elijah,” Australia said.  Singapore looked at him.  “I uh—brought you something.”
Singapore looked at him; Australia pulled a book out of his bag.
“It’s Picnic at Hanging Rock, by Joan Lindsay,” Australia said.  “She was a writer from my place.  She also wrote plays and essays, and painted a few watercolors, but this book is what she’s most famous for.”
When Singapore didn’t take the book right away, Australia’s heart sank—he should have just brought a souvenir from home, like a stuffed dingo.  Singapore liked plushies.
Still, Australia tried to play it off.
“It’s fine if you don’t want it,” he said.  “You’ve given me some of your books, so I thought—”
“Will you give me a chance to react?” Singapore asked.  “I want it.”
Singapore took the book.
“You do?” the question fell from Australia’s mouth before he had a chance to stop it.
“Of course I do,” Singapore said, sounding equal parts exasperated and fond.  “It’s yours.”
Something warm in Australia fluttered; it was quite possibly the sweetest thing anyone had ever said to him.
Australia pecked Singapore on the cheek.
Singapore smiled.
“If that gets you this excited, I kind of wish you’d given it to me earlier,” he teased.  “Besides,” Singapore added, laying a hand on Australia’s cheek.  “If you’re going to kiss me, kiss me right.”
Australia complied, pressing his lips against Singapore’s.
Outside, the setting sun seemed to glow a little brighter.

Humans are weird: Space stations
“Attention passengers, this is your captain speaking. We will be arriving at our destination shortly. Please ensure you have gone over your human interaction pamphlets before disembarking.” With that the intercom clicked off and the alien delegation resume their discussion.  “What can we expect from this world?” “It was founded by humans so I doubt it will be as civilized as we are used to.” “i wouldn’t be surprised if it was held together by mud and bricks.” The delegation let out a rousing round of laughter at their remarks. Despite being sent by their government to establish trade with the human governments, the delegation was under the assumption that they would be dealing with primitives who would bow before their peoples superior technology.  A shudder ran through the space craft as it exited slip space and returned to normal cruising speed.  One of the delegates looked out a nearby window. “Can you see the planet? It’s not on my side.” Another delegate on the opposite side looked out their window. “Not here either.” They flicked a on the intercom to the cockpit. “Pilot, is the planet we are to meet the human delegation in front? What does it look like?” “Sir, there is no listed planet in this region of space.”  “What?” The calm tone of the pilot at the response surprised the delegation.  “There is no planet in this region of space honored guests. Did your briefing packages not list that?” “Leave delegating to us pilot!” One of the delegates shouted into the intercom. “Stick to flying our plane, which apparantly you can not even do right!”  One could hear the pilot take a deep breath as if to bite back a retort over the com before replying. “SIrs, I followed the coordinates you provided me with to the letter. There is no planet in this region, but I am reading a massive unknown object in the vacinity of the provided coordinates.” “Well that is clearly the planet you idiot.”  “If this is a planet, then it’s one the likes of which I’ve never seen before.”  The leader of the delegation who had remained quiet stood up. “I’m coming to the cockpit to see for myself.” With that he strode past his team and proceeded to the front of their ship. The site that greeted the delegate upon entering the cockpit left them breathless.  Floating in space was a massive mound of refined metal, as if a mountain had been ripped from a planet and then left in space discarded. Countless individual lights molded into the walls on the outside of the structure made it look as if it was the stars itself were it not for the flickering of distant star light and shadows dancing across the massive structures surface as it slowly spun in place. “What....what is that?” the delegate leader stammered as their ship soon fell into the shadow of the monumental structure. Before the pilot could respond the ship shook as something massive passed past the diplomatic ship.  A Volin freighter passed them and left them momentarily blinded from the glare of the freighter’s engines. As the delegates eyes adjusted it some became clearly there were hundreds, if not thousands of ships heading to and leaving the unknown structure.  Before the delegate could ask anymore question a voice cut in over the radio.  “This is New Singapore station control contact delegation vessel. Repeat, this is New Singapore station control contacting delegation vessel. You are currently blocking incoming traffic. Please vacate the lane and proceed to hangar 1109, the human delegation is waiting for you.”  “Hangar? We’re not landing on a planet?” the lead delegate asked.
The pilot said nothing. They had already begun altering their course to the listed hangar.  The closer the delegate ship came to the station, the sheer size became ever prevalent. With the station towering over them, the delegate’s ship slowly pulled into a vast hangar. As they settled down massive doors slowly began closing behind them, sealing them in. Breathable atmosphere was then loudly hissed into the room and within minutes it was breathable.  From the cockpit the lead delegate could see a small door open up on the far side of the hangar and a group of humans marched in. The lead delegate quickly went back to his retinue and had them exit the vessel.  The human at the front of the group waiting at the bottom of the ramp stretched out their arms. “Honored guests, welcome to New Singapore Station.”  The alien delegation outstretched their own hand and grasped the humans and shook it. “I was under the assumption that our talks would be taking place on a trade planet.” “We thought it better to hold them in the center of our trade network.” the human remarked. “Most of our planets are too far away from neighboring territories to make trade possible, so this station was constructed several years ago to help facilitate shorter travel distances.”  “Can such a structure handle such levels of trade?”  “We still are a bit understaffed. Only a million of the personnel are currently working, though with the recent profit increase we’ve been approved for hiring an additional million people. ”Th-there are a million humans on this station?” The numbers shocked the alien delegation. That many people was roughly the same population size of their most prosperous core world.  The human shook their head. “We have a million staff, but we also house another five million of other human and non-human members. These are the traders and merchants, warehouse workers, police and military staff, tourists, and other odds and ends that come with a large group of people in a single area.” The aliens simply stopped talking at this point and looked around in wonder. They had come in hopes of showing their superiority over humans, but now it seems that they were the ones being shown up.

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to write down some of a quick checklist of my own self exploration based on question provided by ELE on this twitter link! (https://twitter.com/xlittle_ele/status/1275847156629475328)
I will write things here in order not to spam your Twitter Timeline too much.
1. First of all, introduce yourself! What’s your name? My name is Runa. People usually call me by that name, but some others call me Ruru, Na-chan, some call me by the name of Xiao Wei and some other more.
2. Where are you from? From this universe; specifically, my mother’s womb.
3. Do you have any hobbies? If so, which one? I have plenty of things that I could call as my hobbies.  I do music, specifically piano, but lately I’m trying out some other instrument as well, like kalimba/ ukulele. I like to write stories/ letters to friends/ daily journal, I like to re-arranged my room when I got the mood and time to do it, I love to watch some movies/ series and read stories/ manga as well.
4. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where will you go? Hhm...Lemme see...I think I would love to go to Tasmania.  I personally loves to go to those minor places that people are not really put an eye to. Rather than going to those mainstream places. Partially, I want to go to Tasmania ever since I watch a Singapore drama series [Sudden] and part of the scenery in that series was taken at Tasmania. It makes me want to go there and visit the real place someday.
5. Do you believe in love at the first sight? Hmm...Not really, actually. Maybe because I’m a person who usually fall in love after I have interacted with the person for quite some time. Sometimes, I could think of some random stuffs that suddenly struck me when I’m awake in the morning.
9. Do you believe in soulmates? Not really, but I believe that people are attracting people with the same/ similar frequencies with them, so if I want to see how my future soulmates is, I just need to mirror on myself and see how I’m living my life so far and how’s my true personality is.

Those moments spent with my family are the best.
46. Do you easily trust others? Nope. I usually have minus trust with other people other than my own core family. Even I couldn’t trust my extended family too much.

One without the other? A Closer look at Rural-Urban Interdependency
Question:  Does urban Canada “need” rural Canada today or are we able to function well without strong linkages?
In my opinion, Yes. Although I have not much context nor background information of Canada’s Rural-Urban relationship, I feel that there is an intrinsic connection between the two regions which ensures their mutual survival. Firstly, I want to start off with a personal experience which highlights the significance of the rural. Next, I will further postulate that rural-urban linkage is a necessity for the development for both areas with the aid from the concept of Urban-rural interdependence. Lastly, I will present two arguments (one for rural-to-urban dependence and another for urban-to-rural dependence) which presents this strong linkage between the two regions within the Canadian context.
Coming from Singapore, a developed nation-state with 100% of the metropolitan population, her economy thrives entirely on service and tertiary sector. Due to the geographical area and location, Singapore faces the absence of natural resources, extremely limited area for land use heavy economic activities such as farming (0% in agriculture). What does this mean? Singapore has almost no spaces that are considered to be rural. Therefore, Singapore is highly reliant on her imports of foodstuffs and consumer goods.

Public housing in Singapore
I vividly recall the spread of highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza (bird flu) in Asia during in 2005 which highlights this dependency on foreign imports. Singapore faced widespread food shortages (especially for avian products) during this period. Luckily for us, as the virus begin to lose its foothold, imports resume which solved the food shortage crisis. Therefore, I feel that urban regions’ development and lifestyle can be sustained without a stable supply of necessities. Where does this come from? You guessed it, the rural regions.

Now I would like to introduce the concept of Rural-Urban Interdependence.
“Urban-rural interdependence includes spatial links to the movement of people, goods, money, and information between urban and rural areas including roads and railways, and sectorial links (interdependence between agriculture, industry and services). Rural-urban interdependence is important for poverty alleviation, sustainable rural development and urbanization. Strong linkages can improve the living conditions and employment opportunities of both rural and urban populations. Domestic trade and the adequacy and efficiency of infrastructure are the backbone of mutually beneficial rural-urban relationships and of the success of the relationship between urban and rural areas (Bekker, 2000).”
In a way, I feel that this concept draws heavily from the Core-Periphery Model (1963) by John Friedmann. While one of the main purposes of the model is to explain the spatial distribution of processes highlighting uneven development, the processes within the model can be put into context to explain the significance of rural-urban linkage. Processes within the rural-urban linkage are bilateral which explains the interference.
Tumblr media
Core-Periphery Model
Rural Canada is important to urban Canada because of the continued supply of resources from the rural to the urban. Resources fulfil the urban consumption needs which facilitate the continued urban growth. Canada is one of the biggest exporters of agriculture product. Having a strong agriculture sector ensures the food security of urban Canada as well as meeting the global demands for agriculture goods. With the help of the extensive transportation networks, the movement of people and goods is hastened which further strengthen the linkage between rural and urban areas.
In turn, the urban regions benefit the rural regions by improving the aforementioned physical infrastructure and providing various benefits. For example, the Rural Economic Development Fund (RED) finances regional economic development activities in rural southern Ontario communities. The program currently emphases on providing the rural with additional resources to implement projects that increase regional economic opportunities. With the development of urban areas from the support of the rural, the rural regions receive a reciprocated benefit.
Therefore, I feel that it is naïve to assume that urban and rural are mutually exclusive and independent from one another. I argue that these two regions are in fact completely intertwined. However, I urge everyone to not view these two regions as separate spaces. The old orthodoxy of a dichotomous approach to urban development (vice versa) as distinct from rural development no longer accords with reality, considering the complementary functions and flows of people, capital, goods and services between the two areas. Rural and urban areas are economically, socially and environmentally interdependent.
Of course, much of my discussion post has been one-sided taking the position that the rural-urban linkage is a necessary condition for the development of both regions. However, I welcome a different perspective on why urban Canada just might survive without rural Canada in the comments below. Cheers.

Most Popular Tableau Interview Questions & Answers
Tableau Interview Questions You must know these all. Data has become the new currency of trade and every organization big or small wishes to have a bite of it. In these fast-paced times and the ever-expanding domain of the data industry, predicting trends by analyzing data has become of the utmost importance. The analysis of huge data sets using Data visualization tools has become all the more imperative and the need of the hour, with a shortage in the demand for professionals who are skilled in this art of data analytics and their demand on a constant rise over the last few years.
Data Visualization has started a new trend in the data industry with the demand for skilled individuals soaring sky-high. It allows the professional to make a smarter decision-making process with the least granular data that they can get or scrub all the ‘Noisy Data’ to gain meaningful insights into the business. Companies are ready to compensate any professional who can analyze the company’s data and put it on the path of growth and success. This blog will extremely be helpful to anyone who has completed a certified course in Tableau and wishes to start looking for a good-paying job that uses Tableau as it is core competence software. Make certain to go through the most frequently asked tableau interview questions:-
Q1. What is Tableau?
Is a business intelligence Software
Helps in creating a link between datasets
Aids in visualization and creating interactive dashboards
Q2. What are the different sub-products of Tableau?
The different sub-products of Tableau are:-
Tableau Desktop – This is a premium version of Tableau software. There are 2 plans for the software. The first one is for $ 999 for personal use for a year. The second option is $ 9,999 for professional use for a year. In both versions, the user using the Tableau desktop can create visualizations, all listed data sources can be connected using the app, access can be restricted to certain individuals, and many other features.
Tableau Online – Helps the user publish dashboards/reports in real-time with colleagues for easier and faster business intelligence solutions, with complete access to colleagues to leave ideas on the dashboard with their color tags without changing the original data.
Tableau Public – This product of Tableau allows the user to create visualizations but does not allow the document to be saved anywhere except the Tableau server where once the workbook is posted it is available for public viewing purposes.
Tableau Reader – It is a free desktop application that allows the user to view visualizations and dashboards, without access to edit or interact with the visualization created.
Tableau Server – This is enterprise-level software that allows the user to upload or save a visualization or dashboard in the cloud server allocated for the company.
Q3. What are the different data types in Tableau?
Tableau supports the following data types:-
Boolean – TRUE / FALSE
Date – Date values ( December 14, 2020)
Date & Time – Date & Timestamp values ( December 14, 2020, 18:12 PM)
Geographical values – geographical mapping (New York, France, India, Singapore)
Text / String – Text or string values (Welcome to Tableau)
Number (Decimal) – Decimal numbers (5.0000)
Number (Whole) – Whole numbers (6)
Q4. What are Measures and Dimensions?
Measures are numeric metrics or quantifiable quantities of data, which are evaluated by dimension tables. Numbers are stored in a table whose keys refer uniquely to the associated dimension tables. The table supports data storage at molecular levels and thus allows multiple records to be inserted at the same time. E.g., the Sales table can have a product key, customer ID key, several units sold key, etc.
Dimensions are definitive attribute values for multiple dimensions of each attribute, defining multiple characteristics. A dimension table can have the reference of the key product from the table which may consist of the product name, size, color, type, etc.
Q5. Difference between .twb & .twbx extensions?
.twb is a .xml document that includes all the selections & data that the user may have used in a Tableau workbook, it does not include any data.
.twbx is a ‘zipped’ file consisting of a .twb and any other file that may have been used by the user like extracts, background images, etc.
Q6. What are the varieties of joins used in Tableau?
They are a lot similar to the joins one finds in SQL, it is a joining method for combining data on a common key
Inner join – the resulting table consists of values that have matches in both the tables
Left join – The table consists of all values from the left table and corresponding matches from the right table.
Right join – It is the other way around to the left join with the corresponding matches from the left table.
Outer join – The table consists of all values from both the tables
Union Join – This is another style of merging two or more tables by attaching rows of data from one table to another.
Q7. Describe the distinction between Joining & blending.
Merging data from two or more different sources is data blending. E.g., data from multiple sources i.e., MS Excel, SQL Server, Oracle, etc are pooled into one Tableau workbook. In data blending, each data source consists of its own set of dimensions & measures.
Joining is when two or more tables from the same data source are amalgamated into one workbook. The combined tables or sheets consist of a common set of dimensions and measures.
Q8. Is there a difference between groups and sets in Tableau?
A Tableau group is a one-dimensional representation of data, used to create a higher-level category by using lower-level category members. Tableau sets can have several conditions and may be grouped across multiple dimensions/measures.
The key disparity here is that all the groups will comprise the same customers even if their profits change later on. In the case of sets, if the profit changes then the top five and bottom five customers will change accordingly.
Did you Know?
We cannot use groups in calculated fields, but we can use sets.
Q9. In Tableau what is a ‘Parameter’?
A parameter is a dynamic value that a user may choose, and also use to replace constant values in calculations, filters, and reference lines.
Q10. Difference between Heat maps & TreeMaps?
Heat Maps are used to compare categories using color and size. Using this method, the user may distinguish between two measures.
Tree Maps are used to represent hierarchical data. The space in this view is divided into rectangles that are sized and ordered by a measure.
Q11. What is the Tableau worksheet, dashboard, story & workbook?
Much like MS Excel, Tableau uses a workbook and sheet file structure.
A workbook consisting of sheets may be referred to as a worksheet, dashboard, or story.
A worksheet includes a single view along with shelves, legends, and a data pane.
A dashboard is an assortment of views from numerous worksheets.
A story is a categorization of worksheets or dashboards that work together to communicate information.
Q12. What do you understand by blended axis?
A blended axis is used for merging two measures that share the same axis when they have the same scale.
Q13. What is the use of a Dual-axis?
This feature allows the user to compare measures that are useful when the user wishes to compare two measures that have different scales.
Q14. What is the difference between a Blended axis and a dual axis?
The difference between a blended axis and a dual-axis chart is that the blended axis uses the same scale, while a dual axis can have two different scales or two mark cards.
Q15. What is the rank function in Tableau?
Based on a measure, ranking is assigning a position within a category.
Q16. How can one schedule a Workbook in Tableau, and post its publication?
After signing into the Tableau server:-
go to Content > data sources or Content > Workbooks, depending on the type of content the user wishes to refresh.
Choose the checkbox for the data source or workbook The Operator intends to refresh, and then pick Actions > Extract Refresh
In the Refresh Extracts dialog, opt for Schedule a Refresh and complete the subsequent moves:
Pick the schedule The Operator wishes for.
If offered, specify whether The Operator would like a complete or incremental refresh.
Q17. How to deal with Null and other special values?
If the field comprises vacant values or if there are zeros or negative values on a logarithmic axis, Tableau would not be able to plot them. Tableau flashes an indicator in the lower right corner of the view, which once the user clicks are displayed the following options to choose from:
Filter Data Omits all the null values from the visualization using a filter. In that case, the unimportant values are also omitted from any further calculations used in the visualization.
Show Data at Default Position Displays the data at a default location on the axis.
Q18. How to embed a webpage in a Dashboard?
By following these steps any user can embed a webpage in a dashboard
Go to dashboard
Double click on the ‘Webpage’ alternative available in the ‘Objects’ option
Enter the URL of the webpage in the dialog box that appears
Q19. How to display the webpage as an infographic?
Start by bringing up the map into view, which will showcase the states name
Go to the dashboard.
Double click the ‘Webpage’ option available under ‘Objects.’
Do not feed in a URL in the dialog box that appears and click on Ok.
Click on the Dashboard in the menu and choose ‘Action.’
Click on ‘Add Action’ and pick ‘Go to URL.’
Enter the URL in the option provided. Click on the arrow next to it and pick out ‘State.’
Click on ‘Select option’ and hit ‘Ok.’
Now, when The Operator clicks on any state, it will bring up the webpage of that state and this is how a dashboard is made dynamic.
Q20. How to optimize the performance of a dashboard?
There are many ways to enhance the performance of a dashboard:
By maximizing the number of fields and records. The user can exclude unused fields from the visualization or use extract filters.
By restricting the number of filters used, by preventing quick filters and applying action & parameter filters instead. These filters are accountable for diminishing query loads.
Use Min/Max instead of using the Average function because average functions require more processing time than Min/Max.
The use of Boolean or numerical calculations aids computers, as they can process integers and Boolean much more rapidly than strings.
Q21. What visualization solutions would be used in the given scenarios?
To show the average sales totals across a range of product categories and sub-categories – TreeMap
To demonstrate the period of events or activities – the Gantt Chart
To display quarter-wise growth – Waterfall Chart
Q22. How many tables can The Operator join in Tableau?
A maximum of 32 tables can be merged in Tableau.
Q23. What are the different connections a user can make with their dataset?
The user can either connect live to their data set or extract data onto Tableau.
Live: Connecting live to a data set directly impacts the software’s computational processing and storage functions. Fresh queries will go to the database and will be reflected as new or updated within the data.
Extract: An extract will make a dummy file of the data to be used by Tableau’s data engine. The dummy file of the data can be refreshed on a recurring schedule as a whole or incrementally attached data. One way is to set up these schedules is via the Tableau server.
The advantage of using Tableau extract over a live connection is that extract may be used anywhere without any connection and The Operator can build their visualization without connecting to the database and impacting the functionality of the system.
Q24. What are Shelves in Tableau?
They are designated areas in Tableau software, where the user may place the fields or the data with which The Operator chooses to create a visual.
Q25. What is the Tableau Data server?
Tableau server functions as the mediator between Tableau users and data. Tableau Data Server permits the operator to upload and communicate data extracts, sustain database links, as well as recycle calculations and field data. This means that any changes that the user makes to the dataset, calculated fields, parameters, aliases or definitions can be saved and shared with others. Permitting a centrally secured, managed, and standardized dataset. Additionally, the user may choose to pull up from the server’s resources to run queries on extracts without having to transfer them to the system in use.
Q26. Define the Tableau data engine.
Tableau Data Engine is a spectacular feature in Tableau. It is an investigative database designed to achieve instant query response, and predictive performance, and integrate seamlessly into existing data infrastructure with zero limitations to loadable data. If the user works with a large amount of data, it does not take time to import or create indexes and sort out data and after that speeds up the process. Tableau Data Engine is not in-memory technology. Post analysis the data is stored in a disk after being imported and the RAM is liberated for further tasks.
Q27. What are the different types of Filters in Tableau and how are they different from each other?
Filters in Tableau are used to restrict data from the database.
The different types of filters are:-
Normal Filter:-It is used to restrict data based on selected dimensions or measures from the database. A traditional filter can be created by just dragging the field onto the ‘Filters’ shelf.
Quick Filter:- This filter helps view the filter or the filtering options used in each worksheet on a dashboard whilst changing a few values dynamically during runtime.
Context filter:– This is used to filter the data that is transferred to each worksheet. When a worksheet queries a data source it generates a provisional table which it utilizes to compute the chart. These provisional tables comprise all the values that are not sorted out by either the Custom SQL or the Context Filter.
Q28. What is Aggregation & Disaggregation of data?
The process of viewing numeric values or measures at higher and more concise levels of the data is called Aggregation. When the Operator places a measure on a shelf, Tableau automatically accumulates the data, usually by summing it. The Operator can easily determine the aggregation applied to a field because the function always appears in front of the field’s name on being placed on a shelf. For example, Sales becomes SUM(Sales).  The Operator can aggregate actions using Tableau only for relational data sources. Multidimensional data sources contain aggregated data only. In Tableau, multidimensional data sources are supported only in Windows operating systems.
Disaggregating the data allows the user to view every row of the data source which can be useful when The Operator is evaluating countermeasures that The Operator may want to use both independently and dependently in the view. E.g., The Operator may be evaluating the results from a product gratification survey with the age of applicants along one axis. The Operator can aggregate the Age field to determine the average age of participants or break down the data to determine what age participants were most satisfied with which of the products.
Q29. What are Extracts & Schedules in a Tableau Server?
Data extracts are the primary copies of the original data from the data sources. The workbooks which use data extracts instead of using live database connections are quicker as the extracted data is imported to the Tableau Engine. After mining data, the operator can publish the workbook which also publishes the extracts in Tableau Server. Nevertheless, the workbook and extracts will not refresh until the operator applies a scheduled refresh on the extracted data. Planned Refreshes are the programmed tasks put in place for data extraction refreshers so that the data is refreshed automatically while publishing a workbook with extracts. This also removes the trouble of republishing the workbook every time the concerned data gets updated.
Q30. How to view underlying SQL Queries in Tableau?
To view SQL queries, Tableau provides two options:-
Create a performance recording
Review the Tableau desktop logs
Q31. How to do performance testing in Tableau?
Performance testing is an integral part of imparting Tableau in the user’s work culture. This can be done by load testing the Tableau server with ‘TabJolt’.
Q32. Name the components of a Dashboard.
Horizontal –Horizontal component allows the user to group worksheets and dashboard components left to right across the page and makes changes to the right of all elements simultaneously.
Vertical –Vertical containers allow the operator to club worksheets and dashboard elements from top to bottom whilst editing the width of all elements at once.
Text – All text-related fields.
Image Extract  –A Tableau workbook is in an XML format. To extract pictures, Tableau applies certain codes to mine an image that can be stored in XML format.
Web –A URL measure is a hyperlink that directs the user to a Web page, file, or other web-based resources outside of Tableau. The Operator can use URL actions to link to more information about the data that may be hosted outside of The Operator’s data source. To make the link relevant to The Operator data, The Operator can substitute field values of a selection into the URL as parameters.
Q33. From a Tableau auto-filter, how can one eradicate ‘All’ options?
The auto-filter provides an option for removing ‘All’ options by simply selecting the down arrow in the auto-filter heading. The Operator can also scroll down to the ‘Customize’ section in the dropdown and then uncheck the ‘Show All’ value attribute. It can be activated by checking back the field again.
Q34. How to add custom color to Tableau?
Adding a custom color refers to the use of a power tool in Tableau. On saving the .tps file restart The Operator Tableau desktop. From the measures, the pane drags the desired color onto the ‘Colour’ pane. From the color legend menu arrow, select ‘Edit Colours’. Once the dialog box opens, select the color The Operator wishes to customize The Operator Tableau in.
Q35. What is a TDE file?
A .tde file is an extension file that consists of data being extrapolated from external sources like MS Excel, MS Access, etc. There are two features of the TDE fabrication which make them perfect for data discovery & analytics. The features are:-
It is a columnar storage structure
The structure is solely responsible for the way they are loaded in Tableau. ‘TDEs are architecturally aware and make the best use of each component of the computer hardware ranging from the RAM to the hard disk to perfectly fit its computing needs.
Q36. How to automate reports in Tableau?
To automate reports in tableau, the user would need to: –
Publish a report to the Tableau server
Whilst doing so the user will find an option for scheduled reports
The operator needs to Select the frequency in how many minutes or hours he/she wishes to refresh the data.
Q37. Describe Assume Referential Integrity.
In certain scenarios, query performance may be improved by choosing the ‘Assume referential integrity’ option from the Data menu. On using this option, Tableau would compile the joined table in the query only if special referencing is made by the fields in the visualization.
Q38. What is a default Data Blending Join?
Data blending join allows the user to extract and compile data without the use of any special coding from several data sources into one Tableau Visual. A default data blend join functions as a left outer join but by switching the primary data source or by perforating the nulls it becomes possible to mimic left-right and inner joins.
Q39. In Tableau what does the term ‘Story’ imply?
The term ‘Story’ implies a sheet that consists of a sequence of worksheets or dashboards that work in tandem to convey a message. The user may create stories to show links between facts, provide context, showcase decision-making outcomes or simply make a compelling argument. Every single sheet in a story is known as a story point.
Q40. Describe the distinction between ‘Discrete’ and ‘Continuous’ in Tableau.
‘Discrete’ & ‘Continuous’ dimensions are the two types of data roles present in Tableau: –
‘Discrete’ data roles are distinct and separate values and can only take up individual values in a range. These values are shown as blue-colored pills on the shelves and blue-colored icons on the visualization window.
‘Continuous’ data roles are continuous data measures and can take on any value within an infinite or finite interval. Continuous variables behave similarly and are shown as green pills on the sheet.
Q41. How can you create stories in Tableau?
There are several ways of creating stories in Tableau. Every story point can either be viewed on the same visualization or can be based on a distinct dashboard or visualization which can be seen at different stages with various annotations and marks filtered added to them. You can use stories to make a business argument or narrate an order of events. To create a story in Tableau the user may follow the following steps:-
Click on the ‘New Story’ tab
From the lower left-hand corner choose from a set of pre-defined or custom sizes for your story in pixels.
By default, you would notice your story taking the name of the sheet attached to it.
To edit the title, double-click the title and make changes to the font, color, and alignment of the text and then click on ‘Apply’ to view the changes made.
To start building your story, drag the sheet from the story tab on the left and drop it in the center of the visualization
Click on ‘Add a Caption’ to review the story point
To focus on the key idea of the story for the viewers, the user may either drag a text object to the story worksheet and type in a comment or change a filter and then save the changes by clicking on the ‘Update’ button above the navigator box.
Q42. Describe the DRIVE program methodology.
Also, referred to as Tableau Drive, it is a methodology for clambering out self-service analytics. Tableau Drive is based on some of the best practices and successful enterprise deployments. The process relies on a much more precise, iterative, and responsive technique which is swift and efficient than the old school long cycle implementations.
Q43. Describe the distinction between embedded data sources and Tableau-published data sources.
Published data source
It consists of connection information that is independent of any workbook and may be used in multiple workbooks.
Embedded data source
It consists of connection information related to the workbook.
Q44. Mention the different Tableau files.
There are primarily 5 types of Tableau files: –
Workbooks – Hold one or more worksheets or dashboards.
Bookmarks – Consists of a single worksheet and makes it easy to share the sheet.
Packaged Workbooks – These holds a workbook and any supporting data or images related to the workbook.
Data Extraction Files – These files are a copy of the subset of the entire data source.
Data Connection Files – It is a minute .xml file with multiple connection info.
Q45. How to insert views on a Webpage?
As an operator Tableau allows you to insert infographics in blogs, webpages, web applications, wiki pages, and intranet portals. Inserted visualizations refresh and get updated as the foundation data changes, or the workbook is updated on the Tableau server.
As the user following steps may be followed to insert visuals and adjust their appearance:-
Get the embedded code provided with a visual: The Share button at the top of each visual comprises an embed code that the user can copy and paste into the webpage. (The Share button does not appear in embedded views if you switch the ‘Show Share Options’ parameter to false in the coding)
Customize the embedded code: The operator may choose to customize the inserted code using factors that control the toolbar, tabs, and more.
Use the Tableau JavaScript API: Web developers often use Tableau JavaScript API in web applications. To gain access to the API, documentation, code examples, and the Tableau developer community. Check out the Tableau Developer Portal.
Q46. Fabricate a visual in a map so that if a user were to select any state, the cities under the state should show profit and sales.
As per the requirement, the data set should consist of fields about the state, city, profit, and sales fields. The next step is:-
Double-click on the state field
Tug on the city and drop it into the Marks card
Tug on the sales and drop it into size
Tug on the profit and drop it onto the color
Click the size legend to expand the size
Right-click on the state field and opt for show quick filter
Choose any state and view the visual.
Q47. Does Tableau work for a strategic acquisition?
Certainly, Tableau provides the user with data understanding to an extent other tools might not be able to. Also, it helps the user to strategize and point out inconsistencies and innovate the process for the benefit of the firm.
Q48. Can a user place an Excel file in a shared location and use it to generate a report and refresh it at regular intervals?
Yes, the user is allowed to do so using Tableau. But for higher performance using Extract is highly recommended.

Most Popular Tableau Interview Questions & Answers | Analytics Training Tub

Cebu, Philippines — Training on three disciplines and championing them all at once is a big feat. I am no athlete, heck I cannot even swim! But I remember back when I started training for Aikido back early 2000’s and had to endure the physical as well as the mental pain. It meant more of mental conditioning on top of getting physically fit by joining daily calisthenics and core strengthening. I was so young then, and practicing Aikido at Musubi Dojo was somehow limited to a few who are Filipinos who had Chinese lineages, either by blood or by association.
Learning Triathlon requires the same focus and discipline as well as the passion to push through difficult and tacky situations like learning Aikido. Some people see training for triathlon as a respite for a lot of things, including office stress, relationship stress and as well as coping up with pressure from peers. With this, it is better to know that LIFE is better with Sun Life’s Go WELL PH initiative.
