Dogger Bank Wind Farm O&M Base, Newcastle

Dogger Bank Wind Farm O&M Base
25 Mar 2021
Dogger Bank Wind Farm Building
Design: Ryder Architecture
Location: Port of Tyne, east of Newcastle, North East England, UK
Dogger Bank Wind Farm Unveils Design for Operations and Maintenance Base at the Port of Tyne
25th of March 2021 – The developers of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm have revealed the design for the multi million pound Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Base, that will serve the world’s biggest offshore wind farm.
Subject to planning approval, the base will be constructed in the Port of Tyne. It will serve as the main hub for operating the wind farm which when complete will be capable of powering 6m homes. The design is by Ryder Architecture.
SSE Renewables is leading on construction of the wind farm and Equinor will operate the wind farm for its lifetime of up to 35 years, creating over 200 direct jobs in the north east of England.
Some roles will be based onshore, such as planners, engineers and management, whilst other roles such as wind turbine technicians will be based offshore at the wind farm itself, living for two weeks at a time on a vessel over 130km out to sea. The main recruitment activity is expected from 2022.
Working with international design practice Ryder Architecture, headquartered in Newcastle, Equinor has designed the O&M Base to be built using environmentally friendly materials. EV chargers, solar panels and efficient heating systems have been included to ensure the facility has a low carbon impact.
As well as offices for those based onshore and a warehouse to store spare parts for the wind farm, the design includes development of a new quay suitable for the state of the art Service Operations Vessels (SOVs) that provide accommodation, and transport for technicians to and from the wind farm. The vessels will come to the port approximately twice a month for resupply and crew change.
Halfdan Brustad, vice president for Dogger Bank at Equinor, said: “Dogger Bank is set to have a huge impact in the North East of England. On top of the hundreds of direct jobs the project creates, opportunities from the project will reach many others in the region from industry suppliers to catering companies.
“Over the last month investment for a new manufacturing facility in Teesside has been announced, set to provide the 107m turbine blades to Dogger Bank, and the contract for our three operations vessels has been awarded to a Scottish company, creating further jobs in Scotland and the North East.
“We specifically chose a local firm, Ryder, to work closely with in designing this flagship facility, and have ensured it is both environmentally sustainable and future fit in order to attract the best local talents to join our team. We share the final designs with pride, and can’t wait to get started!”
Francesca Harrison, project architect at Ryder, said, “The design proposals reflect Dogger Bank’s drive for a more sustainable future. They have been designed to achieve net zero carbon and provide one of the best workspaces in the north east helping Dogger Bank to attract the best talent.”
Steve Wilson, project director for Dogger Bank Wind Farm, said: “This locally designed and sustainable Operation & Maintenance Base will become the heart of Dogger Bank operations, in a region that will also reap the economic benefits of Dogger Bank Wind Farm in its construction phase. It’s another important milestone for our project, but also for a region that is becoming a powerhouse for innovation and decarbonisation.”
Matt Beeton, chief executive officer of the Port of Tyne, said: “The site is well underway at the Port of Tyne with ground and quayside improvements taking place. The Port and the region are excited to see the start of Equinor’s new facility which will not only provide much needed jobs but also start our journey to supporting the biggest offshore wind farm in the world.”
The plans for the O&M facility have been submitted to South Tyneside Council for a planning application. The construction contractor will be appointed in the coming months.
Dogger Bank is being built in three equal phases of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) each. The first two phases, Dogger Bank A and B, are a joint venture between Equinor (40%) SSE Renewables (40%) and Eni (20%). The third phase, Dogger Bank C, is being developed on a different timescale and is owned by Equinor (50%) and SSE Renewables (50%).

Eni is active in the UK as operator of the Liverpool Bay Area project in NW England, for which it was recently awarded a CO2 appraisal and storage licence by the Oil and Gas Authority.
Eni, together with BP, Equinor, National Grid, Shell and Total, has formed the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), with BP as operator. The partnership aims to develop offshore CO2 transport and storage infrastructure that will serve the two decarbonisation projects of the industrial clusters of NE England: Net Zero Teesside (of Which Eni is partner), and Zero Carbon Humber.
The two projects plan the combined capture and storage of climate-changing emissions from industrial sites and power plants, and the development of market for low emission hydrogen production (blue hydrogen).
UK authority consider this kind of project vital to support the Country’s effort to cut by 50% industrial emissions by 2030, while at the same time providing new jobs for the local communities.

Brave new Ireland: Female pilots pressed to abort or lose their jobs
~CXL~
In a hearing before the Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection in Ireland’s Dáil, Captain Evan Cullen revealed female pilots are being forced to choose between their jobs and carrying their pregnancies to term.
Cullen leads the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association, and according to him, female pilots are being told “you have a choice, you terminate your employment or you terminate your pregnancy. You can’t have both.”
Since the Irish Parliament recently signed The Regulation of the Termination of Pregnancy Bill, allowing abortions for any reason up until 12 weeks of pregnancy, it is not unsurprising to see the further dehumanization of the unborn in this fashion. As Cullen has explained, half of all pilots serving airlines registered in Ireland are self-employed contractors, making them hesitant to report on the poor working conditions.
Self-employed pilots do not have the same benefits as regularly employed pilots, and they have been hesitant to speak out on a number of issues, such as pensions and wages, sick pay, collective bargaining, as well as maternity leave and other issues. Dáil member Joan Collins voiced her concern for “what is happening to women,” and Collins believes it is a result of multinational companies using Ireland as a tax haven.
Collins expressed her fear that with the conditions women are facing, employment is returning “to the days of 1916” where “people are going down to the docks and looking for work and really afraid they are not going to get that work.”
The position these women are in strips them of their rights and makes them feel pressured to seek out an abortion in order to protect their career. Dáil member Paul Murphy described the details Cullen supplied the committee with as “horrifying.” Elaborating on the situation further, Murphy stated: “The idea that any woman would have been effectively forced to choose between her employment and her pregnancy, and would have been faced with a situation of being forced to have a termination in order to maintain her employment is obviously horrifying.”
Labor Senator Ged Nash concurred, referring to the horrific scenario described to them by Cullen as “an utter disgrace.” Cullen was then asked to confirm if he knew of a situation where a woman would have kept her pregnancy if she did not believe her job was at risk. On this, Cullen said,”Female pilots have told me that they’ve terminated pregnancies because they had no entitlement to maternity leave and therefore no guarantee of a job after they came back.”
The blatant refusal of employers to offer women support during their pregnancy is an unfortunate side-effect of abortion being presented as an available option. Far from being a choice, each abortion is a sign that a woman felt she had no other option. When places of employment refuse to offer benefits such as maternity leave, and instead punish women for becoming pregnant, a female worker may feel coerced into abortion.
With abortion now legal in Ireland for the first time this year, there is no incentive for employers to provide women with the resources they need to accommodate their pregnancies. It's incredible how fast that has led to workplace environments less supportive of pregnant women.

Concrete Supplies Ireland
Homeowners will also notice that this type of project when finished will increase the appearance of their home and give it a more finished look when the work is complete. For homeowners looking for a more original and unique style Imprinted Concrete in Ireland, professional contractors can even create concrete areas that have a visual appearance of natural wood, river rock and even rock salt. The ideas are only limited by your creative thinking and your contractor's expertise.
In the current world, home improvement does not refer only to a stylish and modern interior and a well landscaped garden; it is also about creating aesthetically pleasing driveways and other exterior parts of your home. For many people, the exterior of their home is equally important and they look to come up with a unique and beautiful home and landscape.
Among the first things that may impress your visitors is the quality of your driveway. A plain and simple driveway normally doesn't add the curb appeal of any home. Imprinted concrete driveways, on the other hand, can be a wonderful, attention-grabbing entry to your home. The luxury and elegance after having Printed Concrete in Ireland designed areas incorporated into your property is unimaginable.
You'll realize that the quality of a driveway can add a great impact on the appearance as well the market value of your home or property. Adding a professionally installed imprinted concrete driveway is a wonderful way to instantaneously update and renew the outside look of your home.
Printed concrete driveways come with a number of benefits. It's very flexible and can be used on just about any shaped driveway. As a result of the flexibility of this paving method, the design can be adapted to complement the surrounding area. Such driveways come in different colors, patterns and textures. They are durable, easy to maintain, and during cold climates, it's easy to clear off snow.
Stamped concrete is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Concrete is poured into a mold containing a metal rebar or fiber frame. Once it begins to harden, the concrete is stamped with fiber molds lined up side by side or rolled on with a roller. Sounds simple enough?
Even though the process is pretty simple, the results are actually pretty impressive. Due to the wide variety of stamp patterns, you can pretty much create any design that you can imagine. You can create the look and feel of English walkway or a cobblestone path. Stamped Concrete in Ireland is flexible enough to accommodate any design scheme or landscaping look.
Having a great imprinted concrete driveway all comes down to proper planning and relevant creativity. Below are some tips on how to make use of concrete patterns to great effect:
♣ Choose the right spot to use the concrete: When you have decided to use imprinted concrete, it's always essential that you have a bigger picture in mind. Firstly, you should determine where the concrete with be put and the surfaces you want to improve. In this case, the right spot should be your driveway. Also, you should consider how much space you'll need for the pavement. Choosing the right spot needs to be the first step since everything else greatly depends on getting this decision right.
♣ Select the pattern: You have to assess your surrounding and make a decision regarding how you would like the area to look like after you are done. You have to select the right pattern, which will bring out the best in your driveway. Some people may be good at this, whereas others may require some help as far as making the right decision is concerned.
All things considered, you need to create some kind of balance between the surroundings and your driveway. You can choose to ask for opinions from family members and friends who have done this before. You can as well choose to consult the concrete distributors for a couple of tips. There are numerous different patterns and colours to choose from and it all comes down to how you make your choices.
♣ Select the right colouring: You have to make a decision regarding the method to be used for colouring the concrete. You can discuss this matter with the company that is going to supply you with the concrete patterned driveway materials or even do the installations. They normally have a colour chart where you'll get the various available options to choose from. They will also provide you with actual samples which you can look at so as to help you make a decision.
♣ Go for a good, reliable paving distribution and installation company: You should consider working with a good company if you want to get wonderful results. Ensure that the company that is responsible for providing you with the concrete is well-known to deliver good quality products.
♣ Check the pricing: After all, you have a budget to work with and this will determine the kind of imprinted concrete you'll use. Other factors that will affect the cost include the method of colouration and the quantity of concrete to be used. The most important thing at the end of the day has to be the quality of the product delivered. This is what you need to consider quality first when determining how big your budget needs to be. All things considered, your focus needs to be on the quality of the product rather than the cost.
♣ A great border makes a great design: The borders are really essential when it comes to laying out your imprinted concrete driveway. There are so many options to choose from and at the end of the day, it all comes down to what you're looking to achieve. Ensure you select the correct edging because this will greatly determine how beautiful your driveway will look.
♣ Get some great inspiration sources: It might not be that easy to make the correct choice as far as the imprinted concrete driveways are concerned. The decision could be a bit easier when you've got the right inspiration sources. You can visit the company, or maybe visit their website and check out their photo galleries before you make that decision. You can also seek advice from them at the same time.
♣ Don't be afraid to explore options: There aren't any set rules as far as creating great printed concrete driveway designs are concerned. Allow yourself to be creative by playing around with several different ideas.
You may be wondering if you should do the concrete work on your own patio or should you hire someone professional to do it. If you choose the first option, then you are sure to save more money than paying someone for the service. If you are planning to add up a decorative area to your home, like a patio, to host your barbecue parties then you must have the proper Concrete Supplies in Ireland to be assured of a great finish on your patio long before the party.
Choosing the right tools for a concrete project is essential to both the appearance and the durability of the finished product. In deciding how to choose the right Concrete Tools in Ireland, it helps to look at each step of a project, which begins with choosing the right concrete. All concrete is composed of the same elements: cement, sand, crushed rock or gravel and water. However, the elements are combined in varying quantities based on the desired surface appearance and durability of the concrete.
However, before you commit to a particular paving company, ensure that they have the training and experience necessary to create the design patterns you want from your finished project. Ask to see any previously completed work that they might have previously done for other homeowners within your area. Afterwards, you can make your decision based on what you find out about the particular paving company.
In conclusion, these are just some of the tips that will help you with your project. You will notice that this project, when completed, will improve the look of your home and give it a more finished appearance. The elegance and luxury of having imprinted concrete driveways in your home is unimaginable. This will provide you with driveways that look as though they have come straight out of a magazine. Remember, reputable contractors will be more than ready to answer any queries and concerns you may have before starting the project.

Details about Construction in Belfast
Recent reports show construction in Belfast is at its highest levels in nearly a decade. Last year alone, there were 11 new development schemes in the city, including two hotels. Currently, six more are in the pipeline, delivering more than 1,000 new hotel rooms. There are currently 30 schemes under construction, including eight hotels, four new educational facilities, seven student accommodation projects and six office developments. A recent report by Deloitte Real Estate reveals that Belfast is still a thriving construction city despite the looming uncertainty over Brexit and the absence of Stormont. Click Construction in Belfast
This month, work on the Custom House will begin. The development is scheduled to be completed by June 2022. This project is part of a wider Weavers Cross development that supports the City Council's Agenda, which aims to create 50,000 new jobs by 2035, and invest PS1 billion in regeneration projects. Mascott Construction will be the contractor hired by the new owners to complete the refurbishment and fitout of the building, creating local jobs in the process.
Last year's robust office sector boosted development activity in Belfast, with more than a dozen major schemes currently under construction. In spite of the uncertainty triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, development activity remained strong in 2020. According to the fifth annual Belfast Crane Survey from Deloitte, there are currently twenty-three major schemes under construction in Belfast. In 2018, there were 35 major schemes under construction. In addition, seven new projects are scheduled to start this year, down from thirteen in 2018.
With a thriving student population, construction in Belfast is booming. In the last six years, over 4,000 new student units have been completed, with most being located near the new Ulster University Campus. Another major development project, Botanic Link, broke ground in the south of Belfast, and there are more planned this year. One of the biggest residential developments, the Botanic Link, is currently 430 units and will open by the end of 2019.
There are two main challenges for Belfast's construction sector. A lack of materials is the biggest hurdle, with costs rising by 10% and 7% respectively. In addition to materials, a shortage of bricklayers and quantity surveyors is another issue. Despite these two problems, a lack of construction professionals is another major concern, with workloads set to increase in the next year. In both cases, the demand for new housing in the city will continue to drive growth.
Meanwhile, the collapse of Stormont has continued to hamper the performance of construction in Northern Ireland. However, positive signs are emerging at an underlying level, according to a recent report by Glenigan Construction Market Analysis. Construction starts in Northern Ireland edged up 5% in the three months to April. Housing starts in Northern Ireland had fallen during the recession, but construction output in Q1 this year has risen significantly, driven by private industrial and housebuilding projects. Savills research also shows that office space is back to pre-crash levels.

Covid-19: UK begins mandatory hotel quarantines
Covid-19: UK begins mandatory hotel quarantines
The UK on Monday began a mandatory hotel quarantine regime for arrivals from dozens of countries deemed "high risk" in a bid to prevent the spread of new coronavirus cases.
The new policy requires all UK citizens and permanent residents entering England from 33 countries on a wider travel ban list to self-isolate in a mandatory quarantine at approved hotels for 10 days and take several Covid-19 tests.
Other visitors from the countries currently on the so-called "red list", which includes all South American nations, South Africa and Portugal, are currently barred from visiting under lockdown rules.
Arrivals found to have given false information about being in one of the countries 10 days before travel could receive up to 10 years in prison – which has drawn criticism for being excessive.

The government says it has signed contracts with 16 hotels so far, securing nearly 5,000 rooms near English airports, with a further 58,000 rooms on standby.
"The rules coming into force today will bolster the quarantine system and provide another layer of security against new variants at the border," said Health Secretary Matt Hancock, adding that they would also protect the national vaccination programme as the country worked "towards restoring normal life".
In an interview with Times Radio Monday morning, Hancock said the quarantine system appeared to be working smoothly so far.
"As of 6.30, when I got my latest update, this is working smoothly, we've been working with the airports and with the border force to make sure everybody knows the process," said Hancock.
'Special permission’ to leave hotel rooms
The 11-night quarantine will cost people £1,750 ($2,420, 2,000 euros) and includes transport, food, accommodation and security costs, as well as other essential services and testing.
Passengers must have a negative Covid-19 test result from within three days of travel, and book and pay for the package before setting off for Britain.
They will then take further tests on day two and eight of their stays.
The hotel occupants will only be able to leave their rooms in "very limited circumstances", with exercise among them but requiring "special permission" from staff or security.
Anyone refusing to take tests risks a fine of between £1,000 and £2,000, while those who do not self-isolate could have to pay between £5,000 and £10,000.
A limited list of exemptions from the measures include haulers travelling from Portugal, defence personnel, visiting forces, government contractors and diplomatic missions.
'Can't be easy'
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Sunday the new regime would provide "extra safeguarding" as Britain looks to ease strict lockdown measures next month after weeks of falling infection rates.
"We think we've got the right balance – robust measures, but targeted measures," he told Sky News, branding calls for a blanket travel ban disproportionate.
The UK government unveiled the plans earlier this month following pressure to tighten Britain's borders amid fears foreign virus variants could derail the country's so far successful mass vaccination programme.
It has vaccinated 15 million of the most vulnerable people with a first jab, and is looking to inoculate all over-50s by May.
Ministers last month scrapped the previous "travel corridors" system that allowed unchecked travel from countries with lower caseloads.
The UK now requires all arrivals from non-"red list" countries to show negative Covid-19 tests and then self-isolate for 10 days at a place of their own choosing.
However, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has urged the UK government to impose the new hotel quarantine system on arrivals from every country.
Wales, which receives fewer international arrivals than its larger UK neighbours, has said it will not adopt hotel quarantines while Northern Ireland is still to decide.
The British government said it had met with stakeholders from various sectors including aviation and hospitality ahead of finalising its plans.
Charlie Islam-Harry, manager of the St Giles Heathrow hotel, said staff would do regular welfare checks on guests during their enforced stays.
"It can't be easy for them to be in a bedroom for 10 days, not having to go anywhere," she told AFP.
"But obviously while they are quarantined we try to keep as much distance as possible because we obviously don't know their health situation."

What You Should Wear To Discovery Travel Insurance | discovery travel insurance
Discovery Travel Insurance is a well known insurance company that offers travel insurance, especially for trips abroad. Discovery Travel Insurance is owned by Travelocity, which has been in the travel insurance business for many years. The Discovery Travel Insurance website can provide a wealth of information about this company and their products. This article will provide an overview of their travel insurance offerings as well as the types of plans they offer.
Discovery Travel Insurance provides a wide variety of insurance plans. They currently offer two types of travel insurance plans: The HMO and PPO. There are two types of plans: The Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and the Preferred Provider Network (PPN).
The Preferred Provider Organization plan offers plans that can be used to pay for emergency travel expenses such as medical treatment, repatriation, etc. The HMO plan will cover the basics such as emergency travel expenses. This plan is best suited for families that frequently travel together. PPO plans are better suited to people that travel a lot and do not have medical conditions. These plans will also cover you for travel if your destination is not covered by the HMO.
The PPO and PPN insurance plans are much more flexible than the HMO and Preferred Provider plans. With either of these plans, you can choose the coverage level that best fits your personal situation. If you want to take a trip overseas and your medical insurance does not cover you for your particular destination, then you can buy an additional PPO or PPN plan from this company. You can also switch between the PPO and PPN policies if you ever decide to switch medical insurance carriers.
Another type of Discovery Travel Insurance plan is the Business Travel plan. The Business Travel Plan is designed for people who travel for business purposes. The plan is designed to cover expenses related to your business travel, which include hotel accommodations, airfare, rental cars, etc. Although the PPO and PPN plans are designed specifically for individuals who travel frequently, it is possible to buy this plan if you travel for business on a regular basis. This plan also covers you for any medical expenses that may arise while on your travels. These plans are most suitable for people who travel often and have frequent medical needs.
Discovery Travel Insurance also offers travel insurance through its subsidiary, Cigna. This plan is designed for Cigna members, which includes employers, employees, patients, independent contractors, and health care providers. It also covers all types of prescriptions, emergency transportation, and prescription drug coverage. If you are an employer and would like to get this plan for yourself, contact Cigna directly.

Clare County Library Building Construction News
Construction has restarted on the Clare County Library in Ennis, Co Clare, in mid-west Ireland.
Stalled for many months following the collapse of the main contractor LM Keating, the project is once again underway with new contractor Coolsivna from Co. Galway appointed following a public re-tender.
Designed by Keith Williams Architects, the 2,320m2 project for client Clare County Council will form a new cultural hub for the town and the region. It will abut the town’s existing Glór Theatre (2001) adding the new County Library and a small gallery for contemporary art.
The main library over two floors is to be contained in an undulating curved façade that locks the project into the site geometry and establishes its unique identity. The county library administrative service is placed in a simple bar of accommodation above the library, with the art gallery placed on the opposite side of the main entrance in its own cubic form.
Currently at sub-structure stage, when complete the building will provide a single gateway to the literary, visual and performing arts contained within a single cultural complex.
Clare CEO, Pat Dowling “welcomed the re-activation of the project and looked forward to its opening in the latter part of 2023”.
Helen Walsh : County Librarian said… “the long awaited new library will bring a wonderful collaboration together on the site unifying the literary arts with the visual and performing arts”.

The main library over two floors is wrapped in an undulating curved façade that locks the project into the site geometry and gives the project its unique identity. The county library service is placed in a simple bar of accommodation above the library and the art gallery sits on the opposite side of the main entrance in its own cubic form.

Helen Walsh : County Librarian said….Clare has always been to the forefront of library innovation and it is fitting that a 21st century library will be delivered for the citizens of Ennis and the county. It is exciting to think that by the end of 2021 – this new library will be standing in an embracing arm around Glór helping to showcase the best of what is on offer in the county in the visual, literary and performing arts”.

The new Clare County Library, designed by Keith Williams Architects in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland has been granted planning consent.
The new 2,300m2 project for client Clare County Council, has been conceived as a new cultural hub for the town and the region. It will abut the town’s existing Glór Theatre (2001) adding the new County Library and a small contemporary Art Gallery. When complete its new main entrance will form a gateway to the literary, visual and performing arts contained within.
The new building takes the form of a 10m high sinuous masonry wall which will provide the outer skin to the library and art gallery creating a new civic frontage for this new arts building complex. Rooflights and sidelight glazed slots bring daylight into the heart of the plan, whilst “incident windows” connect the interior with the exterior and offer views to key points within the town. The administrative offices for the county library sit above the double height main library space in a single, rectangular form.
The building fabric exhibits a strong masonry presence using complimentary contrasting colour in the fenestration and integral panelling, to create strong rhythm on the façade.
Technical design has commenced with a view to construction starting later in 2018.
Cllr. Tom McNamara, Mayor of Clare, commented, “The development of a new County Library facility has long been sought after by past and present Members of the Council, as well as by the local community. Pat Dowling, Chief Executive of Clare County Council, added, “Clare County Council is committed to further enhancing its cultural facilities and infrastructure. This development willstrengthen Clare’s reputation as a cultural centre as well as support economic and social activity in Ennis.”

£8m Bangor Premier Inn brings 35 hotel jobs to Co Down seaside town
~CXL~
Hotel giant Premier Inn has opened up its latest Northern Ireland hotel in Bangor in an £8m investment creating 35 jobs.
The 85-bedroomed hotel is the eighth Premier Inn venue here.
Its latest opening is in Castle Park Avenue, metres from Bangor Castle and within walking distance of Bangor Marina and the town centre.
A spokesman for Premier Inn said it marked an £8m investment by parent company Whitbread and contractor Conway Group.
And the opening is the latest boost for the town.
In May Ards and North Down Borough Council signed a £50m agreement with Bangor Marine for work on a mixed-use redevelopment of Queen's Parade - a long-awaited project.
And the town has also secured £60m from the Belfast Region City Deal for the regeneration of a two-mile stretch of the coastline from Pickie to Ballymacormick Point. Bill Keery, DUP mayor of Ards and North Down, welcomed the opening. "It will make a very significant contribution to the accommodation offering locally and is much needed as we begin to explore other exciting opportunities for the town that will attract more visitors over the next five years," he said.
Kevin Murray, head of acquisitions for Premier Inn in Ireland and northern England, said: "The hotel is right where our customers will want us to be, with the transport connections and accessible parking they expect from Premier Inn, and features our latest specification bedrooms and family-friendly in-house restaurant.
"It's an excellent showcase for the quality of our hotels and we're expecting it will be popular with leisure and business guests year-round."
Kevin McGurgan, construction director for Conway Group, which is based in Magerhafelt, said: "We are delighted to have successfully developed yet another high-quality Premier Inn Hotel, to add to our commercial investment portfolio.
"The new hotel in Bangor is the latest scheme which we have developed in conjunction with Whitbread, having previously built and developed new Premier Inn Hotel accommodation in Lisburn, Crescent Link/Altnagelvin, Carrickfergus and Waring Street, Belfast."
Whitbread has announced plans to extend Premier Inn from 76,000 rooms to 110,000 in the UK and Ireland. It's already planning 2,500 Premier Inn rooms in Dublin.
Mr McGurgan said he hoped the company would be involved in the Premier Inn expansion programme in the UK and Ireland.
The Department for Communities announced in May that Bangor Marine had been appointed to carry out the long-awaited revamp of Queen's Parade.
Bangor Marine, a joint venture of Karl Group and Farrans, plans a public area including events space, a hotel, cafes, homes and office space.
Development of the area has been discussed since around 1997.
A 12-week period of consultation is now being held.
Todd Architects are the designers behind the new waterfront redevelopment, while celebrity designer Wayne Hemingway is an advisor on the project.
Aran Blackbourne, director of Karl Group, told the Belfast Telegraph that Mr Hemingway was bringing "great ideas" to the project.

Jack | Quantity Surveying
AIT was always one of my top options on my CAO application. Nearing the end of my Leaving Cert year in 2018, I was set on Quantity Surveying. The ability to study locally in Athlone was the major factor for me in choosing this course. The chance to complete work experience in 3rd year was also appealing.
Quantity Surveying refers to the person on construction sites that is in charge of the finance involved with the project. Basically, they oversee the money aspects of a project. They try to get the best value for money for the person who employs them, which is either the contractor or the client. I was lucky to be in a small class of 18 people in First Year which included a mix of young and older students. Many of my class were straight from Leaving Cert so most of us were in the same boat. I quickly seemed to click with all of the students on my course which made first year relatively easy and enjoyable.
Due to the friendly atmosphere of the Engineering Faculty, I have become friendly with students in other engineering courses. This is very useful for research purposes as engineering students may be able to assist when completing assignments. Lecturers have been so accommodating with me personally and our class. They are always close at hand for issues that students have relating to the course or indeed outside of college. Also, the supports that are available to students are easy to use, and I cannot stress enough how approachable and supportive staff are.
Sport plays a big role for me personally. Moving from Second Level to Third Level Education opened up so many new avenues for my sporting opportunities. I was a member of the Roscommon Senior Hurling panel in my first year in college and part of this was due to the hurling team and facilities in AIT. The gym and indoor international arena are two of the best facilities of its kind in Ireland. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first members of the AIT Karting Club which was one of the best experiences I have had in college. We got to compete in the All Ireland series in Belfast, fully funded by AIT. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience that only 10 of the college students got to compete in. No matter what interests you may have, there is a club or society that you will enjoy. The fact that I enjoy going to college every day shows my love and admiration for AIT. I am confident that this college was the best option for me.
