Star-Crossed Lovers

Hi! So uh, I'm the one who was supposed to write your gift and here I am!

I really hope you like it and I'm incredibly sorry if poetry isn't your thing because yeah, I wrote a poem as your gift.

I sort of strayed a bit on what you wanted and I hope that's okay with you.

With that being said, here's the poem!

一

In a world where anything but

Normal things happen

It seems life

Has found a way

To connect the two of us

Once upon a time

There was a girl

By the name of Kagami

And there was a boy

By the name of John

Both born by chance

In uncertain circumstances

Whatever the reason

Fate had found it fit

To intertwine these two souls forever

For you see

Kagami and John

Were not always who they are now

Before them came

Illyana and Micah

Two children

On two opposite sides

Having found each other

In the midst of a family feud

Everything was not meant to be

Raised to hate each other

And to never get along

These two were doomed from the start

Entangled in a secret love

Illyana and Micah tried to hold on

To the love of their youth

To the promise of never letting go

But soon, it became too much

Neither could handle

Such a burden on their back

And that stress quickly turned into anger

Anger that was kept

Trapped in a glass bottle

Allowed to run wild

With nothing to keep it in check

Soon

That anger began to

Gather and gather

Until one night

It had finally reached its limit

That fragile, glass bottle shattered

Into a million pieces

Piercing everything in its wake

Those shards showed no mercy

A once bright and innocent love

Was broken and blood stained within seconds

In another world perhaps

In another life perhaps

Maybe they could’ve been happy

But in those final moments

Fate chose to take pity

On the two souls

It had tried to bring together

And it was in those final moments

That Fate swore in all earnest

Illyana and Micah

Would find happiness

Thus, in an instant

Two new lives were born

Yet this life was filled

With even more hardships

In this life

They were Lorelei and Theo

Not that their names

Mattered to anyone else but themselves

Both children raised as weapons

Neither ever knew true happiness

Taught that they were worthless

Lorelei and Theo were left thinking

It was all true

As the years went by

The two of them hardened

Shutting off all emotions

Acting as a robot

The only purpose

Their lives ever had

Was to kill and carry out orders

In this dangerous life

Where it was kill or be killed

Lorelei and Theo had to be ruthless

For as the saying goes, survival of the fittest, does it not?

And so

When these two met

As weapons deprived of all love and care

Neither of them

Spared a thought for the other

When they readied their weapons to fight

It had to be done

Echoed through Theo’s mind

When he emerged victorious

And without another glance

Back to Lorelei who now lay still,

He continued his path

Cold and as lonely as before

But now, with a deep aching in his heart

In another world perhaps

In another life perhaps

Maybe they could’ve been happy

Determined to set things right

Fate interfered yet again

And this time, Brandon and Astoria were born

At last

Fate cried

This would be it

These two souls would finally meet

And be happy for all eternity

But to Fate’s horror

It had spoken to soon

And things quickly turned into a tragedy

Born as next door neighbors

Brandon and Astoria had a bond like no other

They were each other’s friends

And they relied on one another for everything

A classic love story

It should’ve gone right

After all

Both harbored feelings for the other

But alas

It was all not meant to be

When Brandon was walking home

To Astoria one night

Without paying attention

He crossed the road mindlessly

With a bouquet of flowers in his hand

Preparing to finally confess

Brandon was too slow

As he turned his head

To face the incoming truck

And splat

Just like that

Dead on the road

The force of the impact was too much

While Astoria sighed and waited

Eager to know what her best friend was up to

She waited and waited

Wanting to know

When he would finally arrive

Astoria was planning

To finally reveal her feelings

And see if they were reciprocated

Yet Brandon never came

So Astoria was resigned

To crying at the missed opportunity

It was not until Astoria finally checked her phone

When she saw all the missed calls and texts

Brandon had been hit by a truck

And he was not going to make it

It was with a heavy heart

That Astoria stood

Silently at Brandon’s funeral

Many people all comforted her

Unaware of her internal anguish

Perhaps if she had gotten the courage sooner

To tell Brandon how she felt

Things could have been different

But what broke her the most

Was the fact that he had loved her too

In another world perhaps

In another life perhaps

Maybe they could’ve been happy

Another lost chance

More lives ruined

Fate was racked with guilt

It was its fault after all

For pairing these two souls together

So it was its duty too

To make sure they found happiness

Life after life

Year after year

Yet every new time

Ended in tragedy

Were these two souls

Simply not meant to be

And doomed to end in sadness?

Tired and weary

With eyes filled with pain

Fate raised its hands

One last time

To give these two souls some happiness

Which brings us to here

With dear Kagami and John

Both living lives of hardship

Neither of them know

About the string that connects them

Nor how hard Fate has tried

Yet unlike all of their previous incarnations

This life is not the same

For it is more miraculous

So to speak

Ancient magics tend to meddle

In things such as these

Is it possible for this advantage

That Kagami and John hold

To finally bring

These two star-crossed lovers together?

In this world perhaps

What's your favourite part of constigami when writing your fics?

Hmm... I think my absolute favourite part is the sass and sarcasm that they have somewhere hidden even in the most serious fics, but Constagami is also such a versatile ship. I can easily make them do pretty much anything, and I think that always makes me happy.

On that note, I should probably go rewrite that one 140k Constagami fic I've got in progress with @persephonescat. Surprisingly (you can thank her), it's nowhere near being angsty, and the cute dumbasses actually get their shit together always pretty easily.

Hope y’all are ready for this!! I’m excited to host my own calendar prompt month, and I hope everyone finds this as exciting an idea as I do! Now let’s get to business.

Also, Kagami's love letter to John is beautiful and I want to give you a chance to post from it, so that, too. It's incredibly pretty. And cheesy. And cute. And they're dumb. *sigh*

My goodness. I know I told you you could request that but I still wonder why the hell we're friends sometimes.

So!

Have a snippet of the thing I haven't touched since December (and yet it's far from the worst thing I've written since.)

How did they get here again?

Oh, yes, indeed.

John had wanted her attention and Kagami hadn’t given it to him because she was working on psychology assignments for extra credit.

And seriously, what did she need extra credit for anyway, she was already ace-ing all of her classes. It didn’t really make sense. (Well, John, there is this thing called wanting to learn as much of this as humanly possible, which you should understand.)

So, as it was, Kagami was sitting on the bed with her laptop on her crossed legs, the only light in the room coming from the screen in front of her. It didn’t really matter anyway as she wasn’t doing anything outside of her screen, so it was alright. She wasn’t certain how long it had been since she had eaten, either, but she was almost done with this one! After that, she could perfectly well go eat… right?

Alright, fine, Kagami knew she was not going to do that.

She only barely noted the door opening behind her and a stream of light coming from the hallway into the bedroom.

“Princess, what are you doing?”

No answer.

“Kagami. You haven’t eaten since lunch and it’s nearly midnight.”

Still no answer.

“Fine, if you are ignoring me, I guess you can’t blame me for what happens next,” came the exasperated words, and then the weight on the bed increased and the bed dipped. Kagami still ignored it because now really wasn’t time to start paying attention to him.

Of Swords And Magic Tricks

I. I decided to post my Constagami bullshit over here, too. Please enjoy this beautiful thing with me.

He has been doing it now for quite some time and she knows it.

Every time Kagami retires a rapier and says anything about it to anyone in any possible way, it disappears within the next 48 hours and is never returned to her.

At first, Kagami is baffled, creeped out that someone is stalking her and taking her rapiers because a rapier does not simply disappear like that, but at some point, she decides to stay with the rapier to find out what is going on. As it turns out, it is just her boyfriend taking them. Stealing them, really, but at this point, she is not sure she minds too much.

The reason, as it turns out, was because he is turning them into wands. Not that he really uses them, but he keeps turning them into wands anyway because they remind him of her.

Kagami can’t help but laugh.

“You— Beanpole, do you miss me quite so much you must turn my rapiers into something you are able to carry around with you?” she asks, holding back a smirk and cocks her hips. Kagami probably sounds far too smug about it, but then again, it is not often she gets a chance to tease John even if she knows his answer would be to flirt back.

After all, one simply does not fluster John Constantine. That is a fact of life.

John grins ear to ear, without even trying to hide it and quirks a brow. “Oh Luv, you know it. Much better to have you around all the time and not just when the schedule allows it,” he says, giving her a smirk, and Kagami rolls her eyes fondly. Let him break and enter once, and he would break and enter forever. Of course.

“You could also simply take me with you some time, could you not?” she tells him in return, folding her legs underneath her as she sits on her bed. “Or, at the very least, you could ask for my rapiers instead of stealing them. Breaking and entering isn’t as widely accepted method of expressing love as you may think it is.”

There is a gasp and then John puts a hand over his heart and feigns dramatic shock. “But I’m just following your example, Luv! Are you telling me not to do something like that when you’re the one who stole my heart and still has yet to return it to m—” He is interrupted by a palm over his mouth and Kagami’s groaning.

“Oh goodness, no. Don’t. Do not start. Just take the rapier and go, you idiot,” she tells him, shaking her head exasperatedly despite how much she cares about the man in front of her, all trenchcoat and arrogance.

John laughs, not long and not loud, but it’s still a laugh. And it’s nice. It’s not too often she gets to hear it. It makes her smile as well.

“Take care of yourself, will you?” Kagami says, taking his hands in hers. She has to look up to be able to look into his eyes, he’s rather tall compared to her, but she doesn’t complain about it… most of the time anyway.

Her hands are given a small squeeze and John leans forwards to kiss her on the lips. “Can’t promise anything, but I’ll try for you,” he tells her, whispers the words against her lips, and really, it’s still better than it could be. Being told that he will at least try is a bit more reassuring than only knowing that he cannot promise he’ll stay safe or that he’ll take care of himself. Surely Kagami can trust in him. She’s always been able to.

And just like each time when he steps out of the door, Kagami can feel her smile fall away and her heart break just a little bit more because she knows that each time he does so, it might end with his death and that there’s always a very good chance one day someone will come to her door to tell her John Constantine is dead — that, or he simply never comes back home, and Kagami is certain John wouldn’t just come home again if nothing bad had happened. He has come to her every time and she trusts he will continue doing so.

Year after year, the cycle continues; John leaves to fight beings she has never seen to protect and help people, and each time he comes back more or less injured. But he comes back, and she’s happy.

It isn’t until she asks to come with him that things start going awry.

John doesn’t want Kagami to come because it would be dangerous and she doesn't have magic or any special abilities to protect her if he isn’t able to save her in time, and Kagami is just as stubborn as John is.

He leaves, slamming the door behind him.

He doesn’t promise to even try to take care of himself.

Kagami goes after him, follows him to Arizona, just like she knows she would follow him to the ends of the Earth. This is nothing.

“Don’t you dare!” Those are the last three words John tells Kagami. That sentence should have, in reality, been ‘Don’t you dare die on me, I love you,’ but that isn’t what John says, and he regrets it for the rest of his life.

“I love you.” These three are the very last words Kagami says in her life, and they are directed at one John Constantine who watches yet another person he cares about die in front of his eyes.

The light blinds him as the magic hits her. The next thing he knows is that there is blood on the ground, on him, and everything is burning. John curses and exorcises the demon, knowing he could not have done that if not for Kagami’s sacrifice.

There is no corpse to bury.

Nothing left of her that he could lay to rest.

It is hardly surprising — everyone he considers a friend, everyone he cares about, all their lives end up stolen sooner or later. It was stupid of him to ever think Kagami would be an exception. They both always knew he would outlive her, but neither had expected it to be quite like this. They had merely thought he’d live longer than she would, but that she would still get to die a natural death.

There is nothing natural about demons murdering humans.

John has never really liked the gods anyway, they’re all assholes and dicks, and he’s hardly afraid of pissing all of them off, but this time he curses them to kingdom come because they let the only good thing in his life die. Sure, John was never worth living, and sure, John never deserved to get a happy life, but Kagami, Kagami was worth every second of her life and should have gotten to see more of it.

So, truly, he has been doing it for quite some time and she knew it. Has been doing it since before she dies; for multiple years, really.

As John steps into the remains of her house burnt to the ground, he can see her rapier in what used to be their — no, her, he walked out on her and told her he wasn’t coming back because maybe it would discourage her from following and she would not die — room, in a better condition than he had been expecting.

This one is going to be the last one.

John takes it with him and puts it on display, taking care of it and making sure it would not be ruined at any point.

There is no other rapier left, and it is the one John has been keeping safe since she died, hoping that maybe she would come back and he could return it to her. He knows it is nothing but wishful thinking, but she had brought the Sun back into his life, had brought him more happiness, shown him how to hope once more, and he is certain he owes her that much, owes her to have faith in her to come back. At least for a little while.

And so John forges Kagami’s favourite — and last — rapier into a wand, knowing he will never use it in his life, and it is all because he wants to keep the last piece of her he’s got near and safe.

After all, it is one of the only things she left behind, one of the only things he can keep remembering her by.

John Constantine lives on.

Tsurugi Kagami stays dead, but…

...the memory of her ultimate sacrifice will never disappear from the mind of him who bore witness to those sorrowful events.

Thus, I'm here to tell you of my new favourite ship: Constagami. John Constantine and Kagami Tsurugi. I do not know how it happened I totally do. I also enjoy Brostagami, which is the platonic version of them. Here is some art to convince you to ship this chaotic duo as well, whether platonic or romantic. Both are beautiful.

I also tried new art styles while I was at it. Needed a simpler art style.

How To Care For Your Emotionally Stunted Girlfriend When You're Both Emotionally Stunted?

So, I am so sorry you guys, you’re getting more Constagami. There are more than Constagami fics on that list but you keep choosing Constagami, how do you do that?

Not that I actually mind, I love Constagami, I just pity you guys if you don’t like them. You should, though, they’re adorable.

So! Snippet! CW: What is basically a meltdown of sorts is described here.

If you were to ask Kagami Tsurugi how she was doing right at this very moment?

You would not get an answer.

Why?

Because, as some of her friends would put it, her brain wasn’t nicing that day. 

(Nicing, of course, meaning ‘being nice to her’.)

((Perhaps someone ought to tell Adrien to stop making up words.))

Okay, so perhaps we need to put it this way. Kagami Tsurugi was currently sitting on her bed, ignoring all the bad feelings and the way her brain kept constantly telling her that she wasn’t good enough, kept pointing out how uncomfortable her sweater was and how the wool was just prickling her like someone had made it out of needles, or how the taste of the dinner she’d had still stayed in her mouth and how she could still feel the texture of it on her tongue (it made her want to shudder). 

Or, perhaps she also wanted to hide under her blanket because the music she was listening to was ripping her eardrums apart but she couldn’t come out from under her blanket and besides, no other song was going to keep her mind away from the way her brain was screaming and it had audible symptoms in her opinion.

And with all of this? 

Well, she was in no shape to actually talk.

Surprisingly, it’s hurt/comfort. I’m surprised mostly because I tend to only write hurt, except this gets comfort as well.

I remember when I was first introduced to Maribat through a friend and how I got into it.

I was drawn to it because of the oddity of it and the salt [which were mainly jabs at the whole lovesquare]. I mainly delved into it because of how salty I was towards the whole show after the last episode of season 3 and somehow, this fandom filled that void.

Of course, as the fandom was still small, Daminette was the first ship I got into. I used to be a Daminette fan, I mean I still am, but it isn’t my go-to ship anymore.

I enjoy any MarinettexBatboy ship, Garmari, Wallynette and more recently Konmari! But if I had to say which ship or trope is my fav, I would have to say BROTP Jasonette or any found family trope! Mari and the Batfam deserve better!

As Maribat grew larger, I realized that my reason for reading these fics wasn’t for the salt anymore.

It was the lore. It was the ‘what-ifs.’

How people took different approaches to the canon things of ML and spun different fics from it. How they took these little facts and made a whole new version of the show that appealed to me.

With more attention on the lore and expanding on the ML world and what-if situations, Maribat became more than MarinettexBatboy because of salt.

It became a fandom that explored the plot holes in ML, showed the darker side of ML that we never may get to see because of the rose-tinted filter over it. It showed angles where the plot of ML wasn’t based off romance and instead the Miraculous Team solely focusing on taking down Hawkmoth. How the Team realizes that they’re kids...kids fighting a fight that they didn’t sign up for and need help.

There are fics where the Team aren’t heroes but vigilantes. Fics where the League of Assassins is after the miraculous.

We get fics where Mari and the team sometimes get help from the Batfam, from the Justice League. Sometimes from just one DC character and then others get roped in. Where the Team gets help from other magic users such as Zatanna and Constantine to bring down Hawkmoth.

And in these ventures, Marinette isn’t the only character to be the “main character.” Hell, sometimes she’s not even the main character.

We have fics where Adrien is, fics where Kagami is the main character. Where they even find love, this more ships merging such as AdrienxBart, AdrienxJon, Constagami, DamianxAlya, ChloexDamian and so many others.

There’s just so many different variations of the ML world merging with the DC universe, so many pairings, that I honestly can never predict what new fic can come out next.

I apologize for the long post, but even if this fandom started off with salt, I happy to be part of this fandom and happy to be part of this community.

And honestly, I can’t thank enough all content creators of this fandom for making this fandom as enjoyful as it is, as kind and welll receiving too. 💗💗💗

i remember when Maribat started first appearing and at first, it definitely was a lot of Adrien salters starting it. And okay, people ship things left and right and i get that.

I personally do not like the ship. I've literally watched Gotham and for the life of me, I don't understand how Damien is a good match for Marinette. I guess the idea is appealing to others but?? Have we watched the same show?? I even rewatched the first couple of seasons cause i thought i missed something but literally?? it still makes no sense to me? Like, not trying to hate or anything, but i did genuinely try to see the hype about it. It didn't sit right with me, though.

And i don't usually bring any hate to a ship or whatever, I know people got their own preferences.

But it still makes no sense to me no matter how many different ways i try looking at it.

Hi dear! I’m glad you asked! Unfortunately, I have not had the energy to write much lately, but I will try to finish both last year’s and this year’s Maribat March along with Constagami December (I truly doubt I’m getting out of that hole anytime soon considering John Constantine is amazing and I love him and the way he’s not a good person but also not a bad one, it’s beautiful, and I project on Kagami too much), but! While you’re waiting for that, I do, in fact, have one Maribat CoO fic written! I will link it here, but it’s platonic DamiGami with them being siblings.
