My Beloved 1974 Plymouth Fury: A Car's Legacy
Daily writing promptWhat is your all time favorite automobile?View all responses Someone said that “You don’t choose a car. The car Chooses you.” If that true, then the first car that actually choose me, was a car I didn’t even own. It was a 1974 Plymouth Fury with a 440 under the hood and a four-barrel carb. The speedometer ended at 150 Miles per Hour. It was fully capable of doing it and I’d…

Thumbs Down
Big mistake............. I'm trying not to be so hard on myself for this one.
There was no way to know unless I tried and I really think I could have done it. The first 2 weeks were a classroom setting and very laid back. While in class, people started dropping like flies. These were people ahead of me in the training process so it started to worry me.
Day 1 on the floor and I started to see what was going on. The trainer was super upset that I didn't know what to do. Multiple times she wouldn't answer my questions and slammed her items down on the table if I didn't get something right in calls. The order of things was important to her when 911 calls are never the same. How can that standard be put to something so different every time? I struggled thru it for a month dealing with a trainer that made me feel stupid and demeaned me at every turn. She really had no business training people. The beginning of the 4th week I show up early to go over my grades and notice she tells the higher ups that I ignore her. A few times she is constantly badgering me the moment I pick up the phone so I tell her to get off my back. I have to listen to the 911 caller so I can dispatch ambulance and the dumb bitch won't shut her trap. After seeing that I started to see why my issues weren't being taken care of anytime I voiced a concern. My first thought was to just finish out the week so I can move onto radio training and then I would try again to get another trainer. When the supervisor came in was when I realized that this is not gonna work. I was going to be tested that day and I was told that I wouldn't be able to move on to radio training if I didn't pass it......... But I still had a whole week of training left?!?!
I decide to cut my losses. No one was listening anyway and now I feel like I was being set up for failure. When I got home I spoke to another trainee and asked if she passed the test so she could move on. "What test?" Okay so now I feel like I got run off.
Whatever, move on. I can't afford to be without a job. Colorado Workforce informed me that a mistake might have been made because we weren't all treated the same as trainees. A big "no, no" in the state. I filed for unemployment but I have been down that road before. 8-12 weeks.
Apparently something has gone down since and that trainer is in tones of trouble now. It's not going to change anything anyway. I won't go back. They can all sit and rotate. As it turns out, no one has come out of training onto the floor there in over a year so something is really wrong.
I left a really good job that I loved for this job. Besides pay, I really enjoyed working with Conejos County. I am the sole provider until Jay gets out of school supporting 2 kids as well. Fucking pricks......
2 days later I get an interview for the same thing I was doing before but for Alamosa County. I'm there! Maybe building and development is always where I needed to be. I 'm fucking awesome at it and I was so excited to go to work everyday. Maybe with Alamosa I can get more training.
No matter what, I will pick myself back up. I always do. Without help too..............

Colorado's 17 Dying Counties
Colorado’s 17 Dying Counties
From 2010 to 2019, Colorado has enjoyed a 14.5% growth in population. Urban areas, such as Denver, have had more significant growth than rural areas. The growth has led to more jobs, more paid taxes, and a general boost to the economy of the State.
However, Colorado consists of 64 countiesand many of the rural counties struggle to maintain a viable economy. A declining economy means fewer jobs,…

Conejos County, Colorado by Jeff Terry Via Flickr: One of the most anticipated events of Cumbres & Toltec’s 2021 Victorian Iron Horse Roundup was the “Across the Railroad” excursion on Friday, August 27, which traveled the length of the line from Antonito, Colorado, to Chama, New Mexico – 64 miles total. The trip departed from Antonito at 7:15 AM, ahead of the regular C&TS passenger train. Passengers were accommodated in the historic consist behind Denver & Rio Grande 4-6-0 No. 168 and 2-8-0 No. 425, which was followed by an 1880s-vintage freight train pulled by Eureka & Palisade 4-4-0 “Eureka” and Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Fluming 2-6-0 “Glenbrook” (both vintage 1875). Photo stops were made with both trains at Whiplash Curve, Osier, Cascade Creek Trestle, Los Pinos, and Tanglefoot Curve. At Cumbres, No. 168 was cut off from the train and spent the night in the snow shed, while No. 425 took the passenger consist down the hill to Chama. The two 1875 woodburners followed closely behind, not arriving in Chama until well after dark. It was a epic adventure for those lucky enough to be in attendance.

Fred “Lightning Heart” Haberlein Memorial to be held July 7th
Antonito, CO (July 5) -
A memorial event will be held in honor of the passing of noted muralist and artist Fred “Lightning Heart” Haberlein on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 in Antonito, Colorado. Many of his works are on display throughout the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area.
Frederick Fitzjarrald Haberlein, “Lightning Heart,” was born on December 7, 1944 and grew up at the Conejos Ranch on the Conejos River in southern Colorado. Fred studied sculpture and anthropology at Colorado State University, and attended graduate school at Arizona State University where he studied printmaking. Haberlein lived in Oracle, Arizona, during and after graduate school, working alongside other artists at Rancho Linda Vista. In 1984, Fred returned to Conejos Ranch and began painting murals in Colorado, the first of which was a Virgin Mary for his high school classmate Johnny Johnson, who was wounded in the Vietnam War.
Haberlein went on to complete 80 murals in the San Luis Valley before moving to Glenwood Springs with his wife, Teresa Platt, in 1988. For 18 years Haberlein taught at Colorado Mountain College. His mural work includes 140 pieces of public art and pictures on the main streets of Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Leadville, Gunnison, Salida, Alamosa, LaJara, Romeo and Antonito. One of his more recent projects in 2016 was the repainting of a mural of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Antonito through a grant from the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area.
The memorial event will begin with a viewing of a recent documentary on Mr. Haberlein at noon in the Antonito Fire Department Building. Attendees will then proceed to the Conejos County Museum, located at the intersection of Hwy 17 and Hwy 285 in Antonito, for a viewing of selected art pieces. At 2pm, beginning at the Conejos County Museum, there will be a guided walking tour of Fred’s Antonito murals. Memorial event sponsors include the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area, Conejos Clean Water, Caminos de Valle, Dutch Mill Restaurant and G6.

The Bad Guys of the San Luis Valley - Death Watch!
The Bad Guys of the San Luis Valley – Death Watch!
Marshal Charles Emerson was in terrible pain. “Easy now,” the doctor told him. “Take it easy Charlie.” If Charlie could have spoken, he’d have told the doctor to take it easy himself. The doctor wasn’t the one who’d been shot in the chest. The doctor wasn’t the one dealing with the pain. The town marshal of Alamosa was dying and he was in agony. It’s a given he had a collapsed lung, and fluid…

Colorado Visits
I made a bucket list for the county once to help me get to know the area but truth be told I see more of it on maps than I do in person because of my job. most of what I have already seen has been due to working with the Amish and Geocashing. I got back into it because this state is so fucking beautiful.
So.... Heres everywhere I have been in Colorado so far.
Entire County I reside in- about 65% of it.
The Sand Dunes- Theres only 1. Loved it!
Hot Springs- Just 1 for the moment but go all the time
Ski Resorts- Wolf Creek
Mountain Passes- La Manga, Cumbres, La Veta, Blowout, Wolf Creek, Cucharas, Poncha
Concert Venues- Black Sheep, The Roxy, Fiddlers Green
Haunted Places- Trying to hit as many as possible.
Historical Sites- trying to hit as many as possible.
National Forests- Rio Grande, San Juan, Pike, San Isabel, Great Sand Dunes,
The Continental Divide- have seen it from areas no one else has
Waterfalls- Treasure Falls, Zapata Falls, ( Now I have to go look up the names of the rest)
Towns/Cities- La Jara, Sanford, Manassa, Romeo, Antonito, Alamosa, San Luis, Conejos, Fort Garland, Walsenburg, Bountiful, La Sauces, Platoro, Jasper, Monte Vista, Del Norte, South Fork, Creede, Trinidad, Colorado Springs, Denver, Salida, Pagosa Springs, Capulin, Durango, Colorado City, Pueblo, La Junta, Lamar, Castle Rock, Monument, Crestone, Hooper, Moffat, Villa Grove, Poncha Springs, Summitville, Canon City, Rye, San Isabel, ( I know I missed a bunch)
Hiking Trails- Now I have to go look all of them up too.
