No, for the fourth time, it's not pop up ads.

Ugh. So that was frustrating.

The new laptop had this issue where, if you're on headphones and start some music, or there's a sound like a notification, you'd hear this loud POP from them (it's loud enough to hurt). So I asked the ever-wise internet what was happening here. Turns out that the laptop is trying to save battery by turning the sound card OFF when not actively in use. When there's a sound, or you start playing music, or anything like that, power suddenly returns to the sound card, and this causes a static POP sound over the headphones. Great.

The solution for this problem where I found the information is from 2015 and wasn't working for me. So…I combed through every setting I could think of to turn this feature off. Power options, audio options, device options. No go.

I contacted HP support and the person does not have English as their first language, so we had a barrier here. I described the audio pop and she kept trying to solve my issues with pop up ads instead. I kept trying to tell her it was an audio issue. She wanted me to download an app so she could take control of my computer and I told her no, I just needed her help locating a SETTING. I gave up on her after she asked if I'd tried the troubleshooting options installed on my computer.

Anyway I found the solution on my own. You have to turn off USB power saving. Which, you know, a sound card is not a USB device, so I would never have found this solution on my own if I were not trying FUCKING EVERYTHING.

Posting to save anyone having a similar issue with the POP.

I’ve tried the auto saved recovery recent backup thing but it’s still missing like a page of progress and now I’m depressed. I don’t think it can be salvaged, but if anybody knows any computer tricks I’d love you forever.

Still here, just had my computer die on me last spring, and have been unable to get the "up-to-date" browser software on the new one to properly load all the necessary javascript to successfully post here via my horribly slow internet connection (without timing out partway through) until now.

cannot for the life of me figure out why my computer crashes and restarts when trying to load very specific 3D applications. Heroforge and fucking minecraft of all things cause my whole system to freeze and reboot almost instantly when I try to run them, and it happens seemingly too quickly for a proper crash report to populate!!!!! This THIS has been the ONE thing eating at me since I switched to Linux, I cant find any useful information anywhere, I dont know how or where to begin diagnosing it because I dont know whats happening, I just dont know!!!!! HUFF.

If anyone who follows me is familiar with Linux and wouldnt mind helping a new user out, im on Mint 22, latest version (Cinnamon), PC specs available upon request, I just do not understand this issue. Blugh.

I'm Back Baby

My computer randomly died a few days ago. It might be OK, but now I have another computer (courtesy of my brother and my dad having enough computer parts between them to make a functioning desktop PC) .

I took this as a sign to take a week off. It also put a stop on my NaNo progress.

Spent an hour and a half freaking out because my computer wouldn't connect to wifi anymore. Wondered if I'd have to spend another ¥60,000 getting it fixed.

Turned out Touch VPN had updated and was toggling between "off" and "on" over and over and too fast to let my computer connect. Deleted the app and all is well.
