Something that always annoys me is the idea only 1 language learning method works. Which is not true. While it may be possible that, for a particular individual, only a few out of many study methods may work well enough for That Individual to make progress and stay motivated... that doesn't mean all the other study methods won't work for anyone else out there, or that those few methods will work for every other given person.
Obviously if you've been studying a while, then you already figured out what kinds of things work for you and don't. If you're a beginner, just wading into studying?
I would suggest you simply look for study methods that: 1. Teach you new things regularly, 2. Review and practice things you've learned, 3. Include studying things you need for your particular goals (for example if your goal is to read X book then the study materials at some point should involve reading practice and some words the book contains, if your goal is to talk about Y then the study materials should include some information about pronunciation and words you'll need to be able to say).
As you can imagine, a TON of study materials will meet these requirements. And you can study a given skill in a LOT of ways.
(Reading is my focus lol so just for reading, a beginner might: do vocabulary study with lists or conversations with native speakers or watching shows and looking words up or listening to dialogues with a transcript like in a textbook or graded readers or a picture book with word labels in the target language or a video game with labelled objects in target language, all of those things as long as your vocabulary is improving or reading practice is happening would help you make progress). So to improve reading skill as a beginner: you could study with a textbook, a podcast with transcript, a classroom or tutor with words written down in target language (like TPRS), a video game, a TV show and a translate app on your phone, a friend you talk with (who either writes words down or you look up words you hear with a translate app), a friend you text with, srs flashcards like anki (provided there's text) etc. As long as there's new words, and/or you're practicing reading, the study method may work. If it works will come down to if you can stay motivated doing it regularly, and make sure you regularly learn some new things and review/practice things you've already studied.
So consider those things when you see people selling a study method as a product (especially when it's costing you money). Consider if it teaches you NEW things, and are those new things related to your goals, and how MUCH new stuff will it teach you before you finish it? Consider if it provides review or practice, or if you can use it's materials to review on your own making up your own method, or if you'll need to do separate review/practice.
So examples:
LingQ. Can it teach you many new words? Yes, thousands, since you can import any texts you want when you get done with their provided material (I have no idea how much their beginner material covers though in terms of words... I would hope 1000-3000 words but that can be researched). Is your goal reading? It's suited to reading, so you will practice and review often with it. Cost? I think it was $12 a month when I last had it, and the price may have increased. Is it worth it? Depends on a learner's needs. I found it was wasting my money, so I chose to use free tools like Pleco and Readibu apps - since those apps are suited for Chinese learners and have better translations, Pleco has better paid graded reader material if I was going to spend money, and both Pleco and Readibu let me import texts so I can learn thousands of new words just like LingQ but free. Now that I'm not a beginner, I often use Microsoft Edge to read chinese... since I can still click-translate words easily (all my web browsers have that tool free), and Edge's TTS voice is helpful for pronunciation and sounds quite good. I read webnovels online so Edge works well. But it's translations aren't as good as Pleco or Readibu, so if I still needed translations more I would use them. So... is LingQ a good study method? Its certainly a study method marketed to buy. Well... the method is suited to improving reading skill, at least. It costs money, which is a negative, but it does offer a lot. However: everything it does regarding reading can be done free with other apps or sites or web browsers on their own. So if paying money motivates you to read... sure. LingQ does have a few word tracking features a learner may find worth the money, keeping in mind the actual read-to-learn method can be done free without lingq. (Also... while LingQ is a valid option for improving reading, if the learners goal is speaking then it would be important to think of what study activities the learner will do OUTSIDE of LingQ to improve speaking... because I've seen how LingQ is marketed as "how to learn a language" but it's only focused on some skills. It has vocabulary and grammar in some sense, since you'll read a lot and encounter new words and structures. But it doesnt have speaking or writing practice at least last time I was on it. Those activities would need to be worked on, on your own).
You can do that kind of cost/benefit contemplating with any study method material you see being sold. Amother example: there's a beginner Mandarin course called Mandarin Blueprint. It teaches like 800 words. Thats all. It may be worthwhile for a beginner... who still needs to learn 800 common words. But if you already know a few hundred words, the benefit of the course is less, you'll need to find a new material to teach you more new stuff soon. And the price was like a few hundred for the course... which for me personally was too much to spend, when I had already learned 800 hanzi from a book that cost me 12 dollars and 2000 words from a free user made memrise deck. The course claimed to get a person speaking, competent, but anyone not a beginner would say speaking basically with 800 words is nowhere near the level of working in Chinese or just doing a lot of daily life stuff, or reading/listening to media. (Although for the motivated beginner if you're learning 800 words on your own like I was, its definitely close to the point of jumping to learn more words and start reading kids and teenager books, and watching easier shows if you're willing to look new words up). So to me... Mandarin Blueprint felt like overselling some basic beginner materials. (Again when I know several other things that teach beginner stuff either more in depth so HSK test prep classes, and college courses, or that teach beginner stuff to the same depth as Mandarin Blueprint but free).
Some study materials aren't going to act like they teach everything. I've seen chinese courses just for learning to speak tones better and general pronunciation - probably worthwhile if your goal is to improve speaking and a teacher could help improve the issues your having. But a learner needs to be aware for that course that they'll need to study vocabulary on their own, its JUST a pronunciation improvement course.
#rant#i saw a lot of comments on forums yesterday thinking automatic language growth alg was like snake oil#aka a scam. but it can be done for free (free lessons online) and for people who#learn well from visual context and guessing (i learn well that way) the lesson style DOES result in learning new words and grammar#so provided you can find ALG type free lessons that teach 1000+ words (ideally 3000+ words) then you will learn#enough grammar and words to then move onto native speaker content to continue studying. so all free#i have not seen yet how ALG helps students with speaking or writing yet though. so i can only say it for sure improves passive skills#specifically listening with new words and grammar. and listening translates to reading if you practice that on your own#even just with subtitles or podcast transcripts.#the issue for me is can i find alg courses that teach a thousand words in a timely manner (and free if thats my personal requirement)#i think Dreaming Spanish and Comprehensible Thai do have enough free courses to teach 1000+ words#so those ones would get you to possibly intermediate b1 level in passive listening skill#and then its up to you on if 1 that meets your goal 2 you learn well with that lesson type 3 you are motivated to do the lessons#like... duolingo itself is not completely useless... it teaches 3000 words on most courses (and maybe 1500 common words). the big issue for#me with duolingo is it takes me AGES to complete a lesson and complete a course (years). cause i cant focus on it#whereas with duolingos content... its beginner content. at best it will get Reading skill to A2 or low B1#and maybe other skills if you practice OUTSIDE duolingo with the words and grammar u learned.#so getting to A2 vocab shouldnt take me more than a year to learn (based on how i study). i can learn it in 6 months if i#just study a wordlist on paper and a grammar guide online. so since duolingo takes me 4 times LONGER to study than the other methods i use?#duolingo is a waste of my time. not worth it (and it markets itself as if it will get a learner to B2 when it wont. and it markets#as if 1 lesson a day is all you need. to make progress in 6 months in duolingo like my wordlist study...#you'd need to be doing duolingo 1-3 hours a day... which duolingo does not tell u to do. and most learners dont

Pleeeeease tell us more about the Sacrifice comic!!!
(tysm for your ask it takes a while to make art so writing is fun) Its the beginning of the end for the Lamb. This is after the ending of the game, all the bishops and Narinder are as followers and the four crowns are without owners. This is something the Mystic Seller is willing to turn into an opportunity for control, seen in my previous drawings/comics. A being above the fray and the creatures struggling for their own power. The Lamb, as the only crown vessel at this time, is in the unique position to be placed at the top of a new heirarchy. This is, however, only possible if they agree to it. It is safe to say the Lamb has reached Ascension and achieved godhood with the sacrifice of a purely devoted follower. A follower with unique ties and strong bonds to the Lamb, required as trade with the Mystic Seller. What this means for the cult, for the bishops, and everyone tied to the Lamb, theres more coming on that. If theres specifics yall are curious about such as leshycat or certain bishops, cultist ocs, etc, send an ask :)
#I like interacting#stories are my favorite i love to make good comprehensive narratives#however i may not be able to spell#or#unrelatedly#i may not be able to put out as much art to tumblr as i want#but i am trying to put cotl art into my schedule#i do more traditional art for selling at markets#gotta make money#pspspspsps commissions lol#anyway#the goat will be relevent later i have the perfect place for him hehe#cotl#cult of the lamb#cotl au#i think i should change the au name#new faith isnt good theres more than one of that#New Crowns may work#New Crowns au#readasaur#ask#answered

Every time I think about how the Colleen Hoover fangirlies get mad when people even suggest that they should try and diversify their portfolios I get really, really sad. Like I don't think you have to read classics or anything and be an elite snob but if you limit yourself to just Colleen Hoover and maybe Sarah J Maas and a few other popular booktok authors, you're missing out on so so much. Even if you just want to find good new releases, keeping up with the book of the month club will give you plenty of options (even if you can't subscribe to them and have to get them from the library). Diversify your portfolio. Read older mass market paperback romances or literally anything else.
#shay speaks#anti colleen hoover#anti coho#do i put this in the coho tags too............#do i want more drama from that anon who clearly doesnt have any reading comprehension#anyway for any of u coho stannies stalking the anti coho tags.#i'm not saying this to be elitist#literally one of my favorite books from last year is a mass market paperback romance novel from 2008#the classics are like any other genre of books. you'll love some and hate others#and maybe actually try reading pride and prejudice without swapping out the names for your blorbos#and sitting with the themes of it. maybe you wont like it! maybe you will! only way to find out is to actually read it#even reading books you end up not liking can help you figure out your taste better#and you can think about what works for you and what doesnt from them#but please branch out.#anyway i'm done. i'm having another moment i just feel really bad for people who never bother to try things that#werent released in the last 5 years. go find some stuff on thrift books for cheap#probably my favorite way to find books

while doing research for another theory I came across a completely mundane detail that I can’t imagine holding any actual significance but at the same time I couldn’t pass up sharing it
so, during the scene that I am calling the Pepsi Challenge, we have this moment:
Nandor gives Guillermo, as he says, a “flat Pepsi”
except Guillermo doesn’t drink Pepsi…
my boy is a Coke-Cola drinker as the lord intended.
normally this isn’t even worth mentioning. maybe the line was ad-libed or read wrong, or it’s just a joke that wasn’t thought about very long and that’s all good! i’m cool with all that. what would this inconsistency even mean in the long run anyway right? how would Nandor even know the difference between Coke and Pepsi???
really what gets me is that in the scene the bottle is set and reset two or more times, almost always keeping the label visible.
now, it’s been a while since i’ve been thru this issue on a set, but my understanding was that no labels could be used without paying a licensing fee. which is why you usually see fake labels on products in tv and film or more likely, they just turn a product at an angle so the label can’t be read and nobody has to pay anything to use it. but here the label is not only clearly visible but it maintains visibility at almost all cuts. which means the bottle was purposefully realigned in order for audiences to see that Guillermo is undoubtably drinking Coke-Cola. wwdits paying a licensing fee for this seems a little odd considering it’s not like Guillermo drinking Coke is important in anyway. it doesn't give significant product-placement either. but then Nandor brings up the flat Pepsi and i’m like ??? and if anyone says that Guillermo drinks both, shut your goddamn mouth and jump in a lake and when you climb out find the nearest convenience store and drink one or both of them because obviously you never had before and have no idea what you’re talking about. the two drinks are notorious for, if one is liked, the person would find the other absolutely disgusting.
also, yes, Guillermo didn’t just have it for show. he actually drunk it.
again, i’m not saying this means anything. i just think it’s interesting. 🤷♂️
#wwdits#what we do in the shadows#guillermo de la cruz#wwdits season 5#i mean i CAN read into it if i needed to#i can read significance into almost anything lol#for example:#something something Pepsi taste challenge was ultimately a marketing failure b/c while Pepsi was sweeter than Coke at first#it proved too sweet overall#or by google search: its an example of the difference between what they think they want and what they actually want in the long term#or maybe Kayvan just likes saying ‘Pepsi’ in his Nandor voice more than ‘Coke’ and honestly i wouldn’t blame him#at /most/ this would only serve to add to the unsettling feeling of that scene of Nandor serving drinks#and only if you know that Guillermo drinks Coke or what flat Pepsi tastes like#anyways - back to a comprehensive layout of the mansion for my next theory...

We should talk more about the fact that nowadays' fandom makes us, fanfic writers, kinda... afraid of publishing and getting notoriety.
When I publish a fic, I want my readers to comment on it, talk about the plot and its character development; I wanna discuss my headcanons and gush over my ship and, all around, have a good time.
But I'm afraid. I'm afraid someone won't understand my story, or that they'll be too impatient to wait for the "problematic" aspects to make sense in-story, or that they won't be able to understand the story's nuances, and they'll harass me.
Cyberbullying's so common and encouraged in nowadays' fandom, I'm deeply afraid for myself... 😓
#fandom#fanfic#fanfiction#i have this longfic project that'll tackle many themes and i write mostly for my and my small moots squad#but i keep thinking... what if my fanfic marketing brings me readers outside of this tight circle of respecting moots i've got?#what if i catch the attention of someone that thinks fic writers are content providers?#and what if this someone has little to no literary comprehension? what if they think black&white and are aggressive about it?#it's such a shame i've got to think about this possibility in the first place but it's true...

wuwa rambles incoming, on the negative side ish (?)
so i also ended up downloading wuwa to test it out despite being fairly confident in the assessment that it Will not be a long term thing for me (and yeah stand behind that one after day 1 and some today) and like
firstly yes the state of the game is in shambles lmao like it really wasnt finished in time for release in terms of performance and polish At All. on my side luckily the overall experience has been more or less okay on medium graphics with some glitches and a total of two crashes but its still like. this isnt an optimized game at all. ppl rly have been taking genshin being incredibly cautious with new systems and additions (so that the game actually Functions) for granted i suppose 💀 and or consistently taken the most uncharitable angle towards it . like yes we shouldve had xyz since forever but i 100% believe theres actual spaghetti code behind things taking long and that hoyo genuinely wants to be very careful w it for good reason. but yeah artifact presets where still
secondly as much as the world is like, pretty and vast with many sceneries that make for a beautiful vignette to Look at and all kinds of trinkets to run towards and engage w for that quick dopamine release, i think the fact that the story and lore of the world is just so fucking inconsequential and terribly communicated makes it just. Incredibly hard to Feel anything for it. its like a cake with stunning decorations except u take a bite and realize its all just fondant and no actual flavor. its just there. i dont have any thoughts nor feelings for it bc the worldbuilding is such a failure that i care neither for this place nor the characters whose stories are supposed to be selling me on the entire game. and that really sucks bc this place really Does look stunning in places and i Wish they would give me something to care about but its just the backdrop for the (admittedly fun) pokemon echo farm and ur exploration progress and the combat system
character-wise i also just dont mesh with vast majority of them much. they dont stand out enough from one another and no one except for like scar has actually made me very intrigued about anything at all regarding the world. designs vary from ugh to fine with some that i do like but they still arent like . the kind of Instant recognizable design that just Hits. they look fine but they lack the (jenshin) impact that makes you want to forfeit ur mortal possessions to them
now there is One (1) exception to this to be fair and thats sanhua but thats Literally just bc she is so fucking gender envy to me design wise. like its almost perfect just like that. literally if only her top wasnt open in the back . Id wear that shit SO hard for My scifi fantasy waves that wuther self insert oh my god. she looks like a middle school OC id make JSJSKSKDKUSKDK i love herrr literally the only reason i continue playing tbh . And she has ice powers too she is literally made For Me 💀
(jen forbidden lore tldr a niche finnish Banger of a fantasy book series that rewired my brain at 10 had an Excellently written girl protag who among other things gained op draconic ice powers of eternal winter and since then that simply became My main character daydream self elemental power of choice Always hsjsjsjskvkd)
the combat i think is where wuwa stands out and it definitely lets u engage more with the enemies. like ultimate evasion and counters Feel satisfying and building up ur characters unique mechanic like sanhuas ice constructs for her powered up charge atk Feels satisfying i def think theres a lot of potential there but in terms of A Future Meta in a gacha that wants money idk where things would ultimarely go in the future. but ya that stuff is solid.
enemy designs are also cool but suffer from that same lack of context to make me intrigued w the world theyre a part of. like cool eldritch creature ig but it doesnt give heebie jeebies the same way as seeing like. the husks in the chasm for the first time. where u instantly go oh fuck How. Why. Who were they. bc u know there Will be a relevant answer . etc . which is a shame. make me fear for my life smh
anyway for me my pulls have been like ridiculously bad i am genuinely not joking that getting sanhua on my first starter banner multi is the only reason i stuck w it. like. prior to this morning and getting aalto from the 20 free pulls . i have not received a Single non f2p new 4*. i have chixia c3 who i do Not like. yangyang c2. baizhi c1. Literally i kid you not the other new 4* i pulled today was . Yuanwu. so like considering the event and log in thats also c1 yuanwu c1 sanhua (latter of which i obvi have no issue w). and then my starter 5* was the worst case scenario 💀 Walmart gaming i mean. if u think hes cute cool but i am not at All enthused. id have taken Anyone over him lmao
so thats fun . i mean its fine im not gonna play long term i like sanhua and playing her w baizhi and someone like yangyang or aalto its fine for what i intend to do w it for now. & none of the future 5* rly appeal to me either
ultimately the game definitely has potential but it just. released too soon in a shoddy state and in many ways (mostly relating to its open world) i think is too reliant on just resembling genshin without actually innovating on top of that foundation or distinguishing itself from it. and the failure of its story to make players care about its world At All doesnt help. Do i think the world and lore are shit w 0 potential? well obviously no bc its so poorly communicated i cant even fucking tell you what it is About. but any possible potential there was definitely not utilized how it should so eh
now personally i have absolutely no horse in this toxic drama clownfest of a gacha game war arms race other than its not worth the time nor effort. so i truly have no particular feelings of fervent support nor some schadenfreude about kuro and for competitions sake i Do hope they manage to salvage the situation and that wuwa manages to flourish in the end but ironically enough the genshin "killer" number two more or less seems to have went the way of the other one aka ToF. so thats something i suppose lmao
Like there is something very painfully ironic about it all and it is hysterical in that sense. at least that much i can admit hsiajsks. But truly if some ppl find that wuwa offers them sth better than genshin then good for em, dont let my highly lukewarm reception ruin ur enjoyment. just end the fucking drama farm and disingenuous claims to gas up ur own cope and hype
(and to be clear. i would Not have played like 8 hours yesterday if i wasnt genuinely engaged w trying the game out and having fun lol. its just very clear to me that this early rush of ADHD dopamine oh new game new things to burn through new exploration shinies short term quick fun is very likely all wuwa is going to have on offer for me personally)
anyway thats just me so feel free to share yalls thoughts too if ud like
#also like. i am aware that kuro was p much forced to launch too soon#due to the license for releasing the game into chinese markets expiring this year#which does lend context for why they launched wuwa so fast that even cbt 2 testers felt like it wasnt quite ready yet#but anyway i think for me its like#what it does better slash good different from genshin isnt enough to make up for the meh things#that are ultimately just things i could also get from genshin but better#so it wont be anything i see worth sticking long term to at least consistently#like. in genshin So much of what attracts me to it are things that wuwa Failed at#genshin isnt perfect story and traveler is very. character of all times. but this world hooked me in from ground 0#and KEPT me engaged by remaining consistent by having an easily comprehensible base world#and Beautifully layering the complex lore in a way that just intertwines with the simpler surface so naturally#the environments are Distinct design choices are made with Intent and hold implications that are thought out#a book added in 1.0 will be written intentionally relevant for lore revealed 4 years down the line#and like. atmosphere in genshin. with the music. it almost feels bad for wuwa on tbat front they never had a chance 💀#but yeah this has truly been a launch of all times#rambles#wuwa#and i suppose also#gaming tag

I’m gonna be honest. Do I think the existence of companies making clothes specifically for nb and trans people as well as gender non-conforming women is important? Yes. Do I also think that people should use some common sense to decide if said companies are just profiting off the pink tax indiscreetly? Also yes.
#when a pair of boxers is marketed towards women and trans folks it is always ALWAYS 5x as expensive.#sometimes this is for a good reason. and sometimes. it is not!!!!!!!#sometimes they are special! I get that! but sometimes ur literally just buying boxers for 20 bucks a pair#when like you can just go to target and buy four pairs for 20 bucks in the men’s section#someone’s gonna choose to interpret this in some fucked up way but y’all with reading comprehension know I’m right

Title: Unleashing the Power of Social Media Marketing: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
In today's digitally connected world, social media has become an integral part of our daily lives. It has revolutionized the way we communicate, interact, and consume information. But beyond personal use, social media platforms have also emerged as powerful marketing tools for businesses, offering unprecedented opportunities for brand promotion, customer engagement, and driving sales. In this blog post, we will delve into the realm of social media marketing and explore strategies to unlock its full potential.
Understanding Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing refers to the use of social media platforms to connect with your target audience, build brand awareness, drive website traffic, and generate leads or sales. It involves creating and sharing engaging content, running targeted advertising campaigns, and leveraging the power of social media analytics to measure and optimize results.
Setting Clear Goals
Before diving into social media marketing, it's crucial to define your objectives. What do you hope to achieve through social media? Is it increasing brand awareness, driving website traffic, generating leads, boosting sales, or enhancing customer engagement? Setting clear and measurable goals will help you develop an effective strategy and align your efforts with your overall marketing objectives.
Knowing Your Target Audience
To create compelling and relevant content, you need to understand your target audience. Who are they? What are their interests, preferences, and pain points? Conducting market research and analyzing social media demographics can provide valuable insights that will enable you to tailor your content and messaging to resonate with your audience.
Choosing the Right Platforms
With a plethora of social media platforms available, it's crucial to select the ones that align with your target audience and business goals. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest are popular options, each with its unique characteristics and user base. By focusing your efforts on platforms where your audience is most active, you can maximize your reach and engagement.
Crafting Compelling Content
Creating high-quality and engaging content is key to capturing your audience's attention and fostering meaningful connections. Consider the preferences of your target audience and the platform you're using. Visual content like images and videos tend to perform well on platforms such as Instagram and YouTube, while informative articles and industry insights resonate with LinkedIn users. Experiment with different formats, be consistent and encourage user-generated content to fuel engagement.
