Could I please request Haarlep getting to be the sub for a change? Like Tav doms the incubus like they deserve to be (something tells me that they might be a bratty sub, at least at first)? 🫣
Dear Nonny,
thank you for the ask. I won't be able to writ it though. 😅 I never really got what the whole dom/sub thing is and never cared enough to research. 🤷
I write my sex scenes the way it fits my characters. That can read like specific dynamics, I'm certain. It wasn't the starting point for me, though.
Thank you for thinking of me. 🥰 Mel/MsLanna
#anon ask#mel doesn't write fanfic#i know those dynamics abound#they just feel - unimportant to me?#people who love each other will (hopefully) commuunicate what works and that's that?#also I am VERY bad with labels

Okay, so the next time Marvel retools its continuity, Steve Rogers has to be né Stephen Rothkowitz, son of Russian Jewish immigrants on the LES, right?
That's a very interesting question!
The first thing I'd note is that Marvel doesn't really retool its continuity per se, that's more of a D.C thing. Indeed, Marvel kind of takes pride in the fact that the main continuity of the 616 has never been formally rebooted, that while the plates may have wobbled from time to time they've managed to keep them spinning since 1961.
Leaving aside that bit of pedantry, I think the question of whether or not to have Steve Rogers be retconned as Jewish is a very interesting one - and I think it ultimately comes down to what kind of message or theme one is trying to convey through comics. When Siegel and Shuster decided to bolt a Moses allegory onto their reclamation of the Nietzschean Ubermensch, that was a statement to the Nazis of the world: the ubermensch was a Jew.
As I've said before, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon were on to something a bit more complex than Superman when it came to Steve Rogers. To quote myself:
In a deliberate thumb in the eye to Hitler’s racial science, Steve Rogers is turned from a malnourished working-class intellectual into the very image of the Aryan Superman Hitler fetishized by a Jewish refugee scientist – alternately named Joseph Reinstein or Abraham Erskine – who is then gunned down by a Nazi agent.[3]
Pre-serum Steve Rogers stands in for many things that Hitler hated and wanted to purge from society - he's the "degenerate" "cosmopolitan" artist/intellectual, he's physically disabled and absolutely would be labeled as "undesirable" under the "Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring," he's a working-class premature anti-fascist (i.e, he's a "red"), he's a second-generation immigrant from the Lower East Side - so the question naturally arises, is he also a Jew?
I think it's a bit complicated. Certainly, as I've written about before, subtextual Judaism is all over Steve Rogers' origin story. In addition to the immigrant LES backstory, there's also the fact that Rogers' transformation into Captain America is absolutely depicted as the work of Jewish emigre science. To quote myself again:
So in 1941, when Jack Kirby and Joe Simon introduced us to Captain America and the name of the scientist who gave him his powers was Professor Reinstein at a time when the most famous Jewish emigre scientist in the world was Albert Einstein, the subtext was clear: Captain America’s serum is the result of Jewish emigre science, here to save us from the threat of Nazism. And while it’s changed somewhat in the last 60-70 years, the fact that the 2011 film has Doctor Abraham Erskine be both a scientist and a quasi-rabbinical figure, the subtext is still there.
I think there's something very deliberate in Kirby and Simon's choice to have Steve Rogers be transformed into a blond-haired, blue-eyed ubermensch, the very ideal of Nazi eugenics but one absolutely dedicated to a political ideology that's anathema to Nazism. In that context, it might be argued that having Steve Rogers be Catholic rather than Jewish might be a useful part of the analogy rather than just subtextual cover - he's the Popular Front cross-ethnic coalition, he's the example of righteousness among the goyim to inspire other goyim to take up the cause of anti-Nazism.
There's also a reading of the text that both points to the subtextual Judaism of Rogers' origin but also why Rogers is in Judaism but not of it - the rather common reading that Captain America is a golem. As I've said, Reinstein/Erskine is a quasi-Rabbinical figure, endowed both with higher learning (the super-science formula that is lost with his murder so that there is only one Captain America) and moral authority, who creates an incorruptible force for good to defend America and its Jewish commuunity from the evils of Nazism.
As Captain America, Rogers bears a letter A on his forehead that is analogous to the Hebrew letter א that plays a crucial role in the tale of the golem. At the same time, not everyone agrees with this reading, so it shouldn't be taken as a given.
After all, Steve Rogers could also be argued to be Marvel's answer to the atomic bomb, a force of superhuman might capable of winning world wars - but one endowed with a moral intelligence and free will that the bomb lacked. (Incidentally, I was absolutely gagged that some Gen Z folks think that the Manhattan Project was something made up for the MCU, because it was mentioned in passing that Howard Stark worked on it. I can't wait till the kids find out about the Black Womb Project...)
Conclusion
At the end of the day, I don't know whether I would prefer Steve Rothkowitz to Steve Rogers - there is something indefinably different between the idea of Jewish resistance to a genocidal ideology directed specifically against them and the idea of a goyish neighbor, someone who grew up in the neighborhood and learned some Yiddish along the way but who wasn't exactly au courant with Rabbi Hillel, taking up arms in the cause because they've reasoned it's the only morally acceptable thing to do.

The way that Camp Edward looks really gives a beautiful portrait of how The American Dream is actually a nightmare. Nothing but a facade.
But no way in hell am I saying that out loud in front of Dempsey! He'd rip me a new one and yap my fucking ear off on how commuunism is bad and such. Like the caplitalist pig he is 🥰

Ngl, I’m in agreement with @jonah-jo on this one. The memes are top-notch and the people are friendly, but I need my commuunity-centric link aggregator format. I’m gonna be here for a while at least, but I’m also getting into the Fediverse as well, like Lemmy and kbin.
Personally I like how interactive the site is, like following each other and rebloging is so much more personal here. Back on Reddit recognizing another user was rare unless you specifically know them from somewhere, but here we’re personally following so many people and seeing them all the time.
#196 is basically one big group of mutuals as well I love it

FASHION CREDITS: LADY GAGA BY JONNY STOREY
Lady Gaga was part of the spread of Wound magazine’s Winter 2008 issue. The shoot was done by Jonny Storey who photographed our girl in five different looks of which I’ve got three covered for you!
Styling by Darren Knight, makeup by Nora Nona using Shu Uemura products, and hair by Hamilton Stansfield.
For the first look, Gaga gives us some great headshots in dark makeup with a matching jumpsuit from Stærk’s Fall/Winter 2008 collection titled “Bride of the Black Moon“.
Danish designer Camilla Stærk sent her model down the runway in the long-sleeved black glossy turtleneck jumpsuit paired with a tank dress.
Next up, the singer sparkles in a fully rhinestone-encrusted silver, black & fuchsia jacket with high collar and silver metallic leather heart-shaped zipper from Manish Arora’s Fall/Winter 2008 presentation.
Just like the previous looks, this one’s a mishmash of various Fall/Winter 2008 items.
She combined a black lace blouse by Stærk with a green organza dress by Commuun and a color-block zip jacket with layered sleeves by Felipe Oliveira Baptista.
In this shot, Gaga wears a dress by Italian label Albino. Her dress is basically a fusion of the two looks above seen on their Fall/Winter 2018 runway. The silver lamé piece features dramatic shoulder ruffles, a belted waist and storm flaps.
Lastly, this interesting photo where our girl is wearing not one but two Indian designers!
Gagaloo wore a multi-colored jacket (worn underneath a blazer) from the aforementioned Manish Arora collection. While this piece wasn’t featured on the runway, the psychedelic pattern can be seen on the above pictured coat.
Her multi-layered colorful visor headpiece is from Indian label Little Shilpa’s Spring/Summer 2009 “Battle Royale” collection which was presented during Lakme Fashion Week.
As mentioned previously, Gaga’s velvet feather lashes in “Deep Forest” are Shu Uemura special edition!

Whump Prompt
Hero works underground, against the wishes of the city, who would far rather deal with Villain themselves. As such, they were forced to do their own medical care, until a local doctor--Medic -- took pity on them, treating Hero’s wounds at night in their apartment.
One day, while leaving Medic’s apartment, Hero sees Villain, nearing the apartment with a broken arm.

If you’re still doing the ask game, can I get stuff about Shino? I love your brain 😍
ahh sure, sure
favorite thing about them —i like that he's so annoyed when people forget about him, and yet he doesn't really go out of his way to interact with people. he does things on his own terms and at his own pace but he still considers the people around him very affectionately, and is hurt when they don't seem to reciprocate his quiet attentions.
least favorite thing about them — he has bugs living in his body and in his bones. i don't want to think about that!!! i don't think of myself as somebody who is bad with bugs, but if there's more than 7 of the same kind of bug in one place, i will start to wig out a little
favorite line —
brOTP — HMMMMM hinata and kiba both. i've said before that i think their team is really well balanced, you have somebody who is quiet and terribly insecure, you have another who is quiet and very secure, and then you have a loud one. I feel like between them all they make up a very well balanced group, socially.
OTP —i do not think much about shipping
nOTP —i do not think much about shipping
random headcanon —the aburame family is very tight knit, very supportive, and generally very good at reading each others moods and intentions. they're not a very talkative family but they all pay a lot of attention to each other, and most things are left unsaid or in implications. growing up in this environment, shino's an incredibly indirect kind of person. as he's gotten older he's gotten more and more blunt, because the effort of going to indirect effforts to commuunicate with people who do not seem to know how to pick up his signals, is fucking exhausting. he just says shit now.
unpopular opinion —ah...i don't know if i have any unpopular opinions about him. i think a friendship between him and kankuro would be hilarious. is that unpopular? both of them are relatively lonely and quiet, but also okay being alone. i feel like they would each think theyre doing the other person a favor by hanging out with a known freak like them.
kankuro might especially be like "this guys scary and his bugs are awful but you know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer!" and so he starts hanging around shino to get info on the bugs and how to deal with them. and he pretends to be interested in shino and his bugs and makes overt gestures of friendship, and shino, who is often forgotten, is flattered by the intention. and is like "well. i suppose i should introduce you to my family. and also to my team"
and kiba is like "fuck yeah lmfao this dude is sooo easy to trick" but as shino and him talk more hes like "wuh oh this dudes lonliness is a harsh mirror to my own! girl help, i'm empathizing with the bug guy!!!!"
anyway. this conversation happens:
shino: what if the black ant used real ants kankuro: you disgust me. kankuro: but. that would be kind of cool honestly shino: yeah. kankuro: yeah.
for what it's worth, shino is on the other side of the friendship like "this suna kid is so fucking desperate for friends; his flattery is intense. and his manners are maybe worse than kiba's (is he a feral child raised by puppets?) clearly he needs it and i mean he's not horrible company. i will indulge him."
so they both lend up pointing at each other like. "i am doing this for you, because you clearly need it," but truthfully they make the friendship for themselves, because they dooo need it.
song i associate with them —Boys Will Be Bugs by Cavetown bc i mean.
I'm a dumb teen boy I eat sticks and rocks and mud I don't care about the government And I really need a hug I feel stupid (stupid) Ugly (ugly) Pretend it doesn't bother me I'm not very strong but I'll fuck you up if you're mean to bugs
i don't think that shino struggles w/ toxic masculinity all that much tbh which is what the thrust of the song is about, but i do think he probably struggles with trying to understand social conventions and which ones he has to adhere to and which ones he's only expected to adhere to
n there are lines in there like
"Ain't that how it's s'posed to be? Though it isn't me Boys will be bugs right?"
which i feel is better suited but still not all the way there. anyway, a song for a teenage boy that wants to protect the small and innocent alien things which remind him of himself, but is grappling with the expectations he feels are being demanded of him. this is a very obvious pick for shino but i hope it's not boring because of that.
favorite picture of them
i like when he hides his whole self. personal privacy icon.

On a cold, grey London morning a tiny girl steps out of a huge black car. Out comes neon sky high heels, teeny ripped denim shorts and the only thing I can see of her face behind the black balaclava, it seems that only her face feels the cold, is a thick blonde fringe and enormous sunglasses. She removes the glasses and underneath is a rather sweet but slightly tough looking young girl. Her New York drawl is soothing but direct, she never struggles to find a word, when she speaks you listen. Her incredible self assurance and confidence belie her 22 years but never descends to arrogance. This, along with her unyielding passion and believe in her work, is a formidable combination and it is no surprise that she has become a pop force to be reckoned with.
Why Lady Gaga?
It's from the Queen record Radio Gaga. I was in the studio one day with my producer and I was performing for him, playing the piano and doing all these exaggereated and movements and singing, and he was like; 'you're so gaga! You're so theatrical when you perform, you're like Freddie Mercury!' So he started calling me that all the time and it became my nickname. Then I added Lady, if anything it's more about the irony of putting lady next to gaga, whatever language you speak gaga means crazy and it just really fits who I am.
How have you found 'Making it' as a new artist?
Well, it's the first released album, I've been writing the record for 2 years but I've beeng gigging in New York for 7 or 8 years. There were times when it was difficult. [Incomplete]
How did you become Gaga?
I was really into theatre and I went to college early, I got into the school or arts, I studied theatre and music but I really didn't like the school. It was like a sausage factory. [Incomplete]
Do you think of Gaga as your alter ego?
[Incomplete]
When are you not Gaga?
When I have sex. Don't call me Gaga when you're in my bed. (laughs) Gaga is really just who I am. I don't have a boyfriend, I don't have lots of friends. I love my work. I'm married to my work [...] it's all day, I'm a total control freak, I'm [...] bossy and I really don't care about anything but my work. And I think very highly of what I [...] a world that think very low of pop so I've tried to work extra hard because I'm trying to really change the way that people look at my generation of music. Because I don't make underground records that are passing for pop music, I make pop records that underground kids like listening to and aren't ashamed to raise the flag for [...] bit reversed for me.
You said that you wanted to change the world one sequin at a time, but what would Gaga's world be?
For real? (she lifts up her wrist to an [...] boom tattoo and is silent for the time since she arrived.) That's my ideal world. I grew up right by the Imagine memorial, I used to go there every day on the way to school. To me (John Lennon) had the most lucid dream, about the perfect world... but I don't really usually ever talk about those things because I write songs about New York and underwear, money, sex and drugs. So until I prove myself as an artist it's hard to speak about world peace. I got this (the tattoo) when I was 19 when I was having this real fucking love affair with The Beatles and John and I was listening to Double Fantasy, the record that he did with Yoko One. That's part of what I [...] I say one sequin at a time, there's a humour to [...] records, you know? I take myself and my work very seriously but it doesn't always need to be that serious. We don't always need to be writing records that we want to slit our wrists when we're done, you know? Let's go to a party, let's have a good time and let's celebrate art and fashion.

With the news that Readyyy is shutting down after only being released for such a short time, I’m really grateful that Shining Live is still around after about 2 years. The idol rhythm game and Idol spheres in general are so harsh, so I guess the timing with Readyyy’s cancel being announced during Shining Live Big Update Maintenance really made me think about it.
I really loved Readyyy’s songs and characters, even though I did not play the game actively, so my condolences to those who were involved in that commuunity.
On a different note, please give me enough time to have all the posts up about today’s update considering its not just an update and new features I need to explain, but also all the normal event posts, the Setsugetsuka set, and the KLab 10th Anniversary stuff.
